(y/n) walked down the streets with earphones blasting music in her ears. she passed many shops while she was looking for something to impress her long time crush, Tobio Kageyama. he was a tough one really, but it seemed like (y/n) sees him in a completely different way than anyone else. her stomach flips whenever his slender fingers toss a ball during practice and her heart feels like exploding whenever his innocent cute expression takes over his face when he buys milk from the vending machine.

everything seemed way too complicated, way too colorful, simply something Kageyama would call ugly rather than pretty. (y/n) was about to give up when a simple necklace caught her eye in a small shop. it was thin it almost seemed like it would break and a small golden circle was hanging on it with glass in it. a small beautiful blue flower was put inside the glass and it immediately reminded (y/n) of Kageyama's blue eyes. this is it, she thought and wasted no second to spend her money on the necklace.

(y/n) happily skipped through the school halls with the new necklace hanging around her neck, sticking out quite nicely. she smiled once she saw the setter going in front of her and she sped up to catch up with him.

"Kageyama!" she smiled once she matched his speed. the boy got flustered when (y/n) suddenly appeared next to him. the two couldn't make their crushes more obvious. everyone knew about it except for them, of course. meanwhile, his blue eyes wandered down and noticed the new piece of jewelry around (y/n)'s neck. a needle of jealousy pierced through his heart. did someone give it to her? who is it? stupid questions ran through his brain but he was too scared to ask the girl. "how are you today?" the girl smiled with her cheeks dusted in pink, same as Kageyama's

"i'm good, you look great today." he said once they reached the door to his class. (y/n) stopped in her tracks after those words left his mouth.

"y-you really think so? thank you!" she stuttered out and fidgeted with the necklace between her fingers. it must me important to her, Kageyama thought. the bell suddenly made them both jump and (y/n) started to panic since her class is on the exact opposite side of the school. "I'll see you at practice!" she winked at him and ran down the halls towards her classroom while mentally yelling at herself for stuttering in front of Kageyama.

the boy walked inside the classroom with his eyebrows furrowed. could it be that he wasted his time to make a move on (y/n) and someone was faster than him? Hinata noticed the weird expression the setter was pulling off and watched how he sat down, totally dumbfounded.

"hey Kageyama, why do you look as if someone farted in your face?" the boy tilted his head and the question ticked Kageyama's nerves again.

"boke!" he glared at the orange haired boy and pressed his hand into a fist. "(l/n) has a new necklace and i wonder who gave it to her."

"oh! i gotta check it out at practice!" Hinata smiled and Kageyama just shook his head. of course this dense tangerine won't help him in his research.

Kageyama tried to focus on school, he really did. but all he had in his head was that damn necklace hanging around his crush's neck. (y/n) was smart enough to be in the same class as Tsukishima and Yamaguchi so Kageyama quickly took out his phone to text the salty blonde.

Kageyama:
-could you ask (y/n) where she got the new necklace?

Tsukishima:
-no

the setter growled and slammed the phone on his desk. what was he thinking? of course Tsukishima won't help him unless he gets something out of it. little did he know that Tsukishima noticed the necklace too and approached (y/n) earlier together with Yamaguchi.

"nice necklace (y/n)!" the pinch server beamed as he examined the blue flower pressed inside the glass framed by gold.

"thank you Tadashi!" she smiled and fidgeted with it once again.

"why did you get it?" Tsukishima wasted no time to ask and after that question, the girl's cheeks turned red again and her eyes wandered around the classroom.

"promise you won't tell anyone?" she whispered and while Yamaguchi rapidly nodded his head, Tsukishima just smirked.

"i'm not sure but you can test me." he said and (y/n) glared at him for a second before giving up.

"i got it to impress Kageyama." she lowered her head in embarrassment while Tsukishima's smirk grew even wider. "don't tell him though!"

"but, what's the point in getting it to impress him without telling him?" Yamaguchi wondered and he was actually correct. this is a dead end without (y/n) actually making a move. but she is so scared of getting rejected! if only she never got that necklace.

the day continued with Kageyama continuing his investigation about (y/n)'s necklace and with (y/n) regretting ever buying it and growing insecure about her feelings. she felt ashamed, as if everyone thought how stupid she is by even trying. the school came to an end and it was time for practice. Kageyama was in the changing room with everyone else already while (y/n) and Kiyoko started to set the net and bring out the balls with coach Ukai.

"so I heard this boy gave (y/n) the new necklace she's wearing today." Tsukishima started, talking loud enough for everyone to hear. a dangerous aura immediately grew around Nishinoya and Tanaka because who dared to hit on their cute manager? the third years together with Yamaguchi gave Tsukishima a confused and disappointed look because they all knew he's only hurting Kageyama this way. and then there was Hinata, the one who is always one step behind...

"oh really? i wanna see it!" he jumped up and out of the room with Kageyama slowly following him after. once he left, the third years glared at Tsukishima deadly.

"why did you do that Tsukishima?" Daichi asked with his arms folded on his chest and Sugawara with Asahi backing him up. Nishinoya and Tanaka were losing their minds outside, keeping watch for anyone who even look at (y/n) aside from the volleyball team.

"they needed a little push, i'm telling you they will be together by the end of the week." Tsukishima explained and walked out of the room as well towards the gym. once Kageyama walked in, (y/n) gave him a quick glance but he didn't even bother to look at her. it hurt her. she felt her heart sink and lowered her head and hugged the clippers closer to her chest. Sugawara noticed the situation of an insecure and sad (y/n) with pissed off and jealous Kageyama. he walked to their blonde middle blocked and chopped his hip with his arm at full strength.

"look what you did!" he scolded him but Tsukishima paid no attention to that and rather went to warm up with Yamaguchi. the practice went on with Kageyama giving everyone his deadly tosses and taking his anger out on every ball he got his hands on. (y/n) didn't understand anything at all. why did Nishinoya and Tanaka glance at her every two seconds, often getting hit by balls in their faces because of that. why did the third years give her worried expressions and why did Tsukishima smirk at her all the time?

the practice came to an end and the girls started to wrap the net as Hinata used his spare energy on the mop. once the lights were off and the gym was empty, (y/n) locked the doors and waited in front of the boy's changing room to give them to Daichi.

"hey i...Kageyama?" the door opened but the girl was left speechless again once the setter stood in front of her. his face held no expression and it made her unsure about herself once again.

"(l/n), that necklace is pretty, who is the boy that gave it to you?" the boy asked as if he didn't care but oh he cared so much on the inside and his heart was cracking.

"w-what?" (y/n) asked without understanding what is he talking about.

"Tsukishima said a boy gave it to you, that's good for you." he continued to talk in his cold tone and (y/n)'s eyes widened at that.

"that's not true!" she exclaimed and Kageyama lightly raised his eyebrow. meanwhile, everyone was pressed against the door in the changing room, listening to their conversation without even daring to breathe while Tsukishima was getting silently scolded by Sugawara and Daichi in the corner.

"you don't have to lie to me, (l/n)." Kageyama sighed and walked past her towards the stairs to go home. (y/n) cheeks turned red in anger as her crush was leaving her forever probably if she doesn't say anything. it was now or never.

"i got it because of you dumbass!" she yelled at him and Kageyama stopped in his tracks right above the stairs. a spark of hope lit up inside of him again and he turned around to listen to the girl. her whole face was red and her eyes were filled with anger, sadness but also love. "i wanted to impress you by something because i like you!" there, she said it and there was no going back now. it was as if time stopped while a small smile grew on Kageyama's face. he walked back towards the first year manager and caught her off guard by giving her a soft kiss on her lips. her eyes widened in shock and she covered her mouth with her hands once the boy pulled away.

"in that case, the necklace is the prettiest thing on you. would you like to go on a date with me?" he asked her and it took (y/n) at least ten seconds to process what just happened before she agreed happily.

"i'd love to!"

the door from the changing room suddenly burst open with everyone falling out of it and on top of each other on the floor. Hinata was under everyone, having trouble to breathe while being squished by everyone. meanwhile, Sugawara walked out with a relieved smile on his face.

"finally!" he exclaimed and hugged both of his children, squeezing them a little way too tight.
