ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

AS IF IT HAPPENED IN SLOW MOTION, Emmett was thrown in the air by Jasper, his hands waving around as gravity did its work and plunged him into the dirt. A sound similar to that of an explosion was to be heard as he hit the ground.

Jasper straightens his posture as he eyed Emmett. Luna couldn't help but smiled wide and cheer for her beloved soulmate.

"That's my cowboy!" Luna exclaimed, earning a heart-melting wink from the honey-blonde vampire that caused Luna to almost dropped to the ground because of her knees weakening.

"Again!" Emmett shouted, not accepting his defeat.

Before they were able to do another round, tires are screeching against the dirt causing everyone to turn their attentions to the Jeep that was occupied by Edward and Bella.

"About time they get here." said Luna as she moves over to Jasper, immediately wrapping an arm around her to pull him closer.

The Cullens, The Swan twins, and Jackie were all dressed in their comfortable training clothes. They were in the middle of the forest, where a clearing was coated with brown fields of grass. Some old trees were coated with green moss which added a bit more color to the rather dull surroundings.

Edward and Bella joined the rest of the group, saying their greetings. The next thing that happened was the vampires hearing and smelling the familiar scent that they all identified as werewolves.

Looking past Edward and Bella, and the two looking behind them, they saw a pack of big werewolves on higher ground. They all had different shades, some black, some brown, some reddish-brown, some gray, some a mixture of colors. In short, they actually looked majestic. They entered with a wave of confidence and dominance, but still with the hint of respect, which the Cullens got or assumed they got because of them showing up and honoring their agreement.

"They're so huge." Jackie whispered in amazement.

Alice looks at her mate, or rather stared at her, enjoying how Jackie's eyes practically lit up at the sight of the pack in their werewolf form.

"They don't trust us to be in their human forms." Edward stated, reading the werewolves' minds in order to communicate with them.

"They came. That's what matters." Carlisle replied. "Will you translate?"

Edward simply nodded. Before Carlisle could get a word out to talk to the pack, the very awestruck Luna with her eyes sparkling at the sight of werewolves spoke first.

"I want one! Can I have one?" Luna said, almost childlike.

The werewolf with a reddish-brown fur reacted in an annoyed manner that made Luna raise an eyebrow.

"From the way you just acted, I'm guessing your Mudboy." Luna said.

The werewolf, Jacob, turned away from Luna.

Haven't heard that nickname in ages. Jacob thought, causing Edward to stifle a laugh.

"Welcome. Jasper has experience with newborns." Carlisle began, pointing at his adoptive honey-blonde son as he mentioned his name, making the werewolves turn to him. "He'll teach us how to defeat them." he added, his politeness never faltering.

Sam, their pack leader, formulated a response through his mind and Edward was able to pick up on it.

"They wanna know how the newborns differ from us." Edward said on behalf of Sam.

"They're a great deal stronger than us, because their own human blood lingers in their tissue." Carlisle informed them. For some reason, the raven-haired grimaced at the vivid thought of what Carlisle had described. "Our kind is never more physically powerful than in our first several months of this life."

Carlisle then turned to Jasper and the two exchanged nods before Carlisle stepped away. Jasper gently squeezed Luna's waist before he pulls away, taking the front with his hands behind his back, to share the knowledge that he has.

"Carlisle's right." Jasper started as he walked to in front of the pack. "That's why they are created. A newborn army doesn't need thousands like a human army. And no human army can stand against them."

Unlike any lectures that Luna had slept through most of her life, this was the one lecture that she paid attention to. Mostly because she thinks Jasper looks hot being in control and everything. Thinking this made the raven-haired girl smile a bit as her soulmate went on.

"Now, the two most important things to remember are, first...never let them get their arms around you. They'll crush you instantly. Second...never go for the obviously kill. They'll be expecting that. And you will lose." Jasper said.

His voice was so serious and almost sounded dark, if that even makes sense. But the way Jasper carried himself and spoke sent goosebumps throughout her skin.

"Chills..." Luna whispered to herself as she rubbed her arms up and down through her jacket.

Considering that Luna wasn't wearing her contact lenses, her unnatural gold eyes stood out and confused the whole pack. She had the eyes of a vampire, but smelled like a human. Unfortunately, neither of the Cullens nor Bella bothered enough to tell them how that actually happened.

"Emmett?" Jasper called out to Emmett as he moved to the back, the Cullens moving away to give him space as the two adoptive siblings positioned themselves at approximately eight meters away from each other.

"Don't hold back." Jasper told him.

A smirk curled on Emmett's lips as he responded.

"Not in my nature." he said.

And with that, Emmett took off and sprinted inhumanly towards Jasper, who held out his arms as if he was going to accept the impact that Luna was sure was huge. The sound of Emmett's shoulder that thumped against Jasper's midsection was a sound that made the three human girls flinch.

They were sure that for a regular person, an impact as strong as that would've crushed his rib cage.

Emmett was so strong, Jasper started to slide back as his adoptive sibling proceeded to push him, creating a long trail on the dirt. He then picked up Jasper as if he weighed like a feather and tossed him in the opposite direction. However, as soon as Jasper hit the ground, he was already up in a split second, coming after Emmett once again.

The two sprinted towards each other, and when everyone thought that two would collide just like earlier, Jasper ducked down on Emmett's left hook and grabs his shoulder to push him down to the ground, ending the fight.

"Never lose focus." Jasper said with an eyebrow cocked slightly as he looked down on Emmett,

His soulmate was so amazed, she never noticed that her mouth was hanging open the whole time.

The next fight was between Edward and Carlisle. The father and son stood across from each other, a determined look written all over their faces. Carlisle nodded towards the bronze-haired vampire and the two started to run towards each other.

Just before their bodies could collide, Carlisle slid down to the ground, aiming to attack Edward in his legs but Edward managed to jump before Carlisle could. The two looked back at each other as they once again sprinted.

This time, they did collide with each hand on each of their necks. Edward and Carlisle fought and struggled for a bit before Edward managed to push Carlisle down to the ground.

The bronze-haired vampire stood up and looked at Jasper to seek for his approval.

"One more thing..." Jasper said, then Carlisle suddenly pinned Edward to the ground. "Never turn your back on your enemy." Jasper finished in a sassy manner.

The werewolves continued to watched intently as the rest of the Cullens trained, Jasper fighting Rosalie, Alice, and Esme, and as expected, Jasper won.

"My turn." Luna said, stepping forward to meet Jasper in the center.

"You're not training because you're not fighting the newborns." Jasper told her.

Luna's lowkey excited face suddenly shifted into a frown.

"The hell I am!" Luna shouted rather angrily. her voice practically ringing in everybody's ears.

Jasper closed his eyes for a bit as he slightly flinched at the loudness of her voice, like he usually does.

"It's not safe for you out there." Jasper said, now his tone holding worry.

Luna looked at his eyes and sees the concern in them.

"But I'm not your average human--"

"You're still human."

Luna breathed deeply, containing herself from lashing out. Lashing out at her soulmate won't do her any good. Instead, she made another offer.

"Fine. But I still wanna see who wins between us." Luna said, backing away to maintain a great distance between them.

Jasper couldn't help but smirk at his soulmate's statement. "I'm pretty sure it's clear who will win, darlin'."

"Yeah...me." Luna said, confidence oozing out of her before sprinting towards Jasper.

The honey-blonde vampire simply smirks as he watches his soulmate run towards him. Her right hook swung past him as he ducked, moving to stand behind her. Luna whipped around to see him standing there with his smirk not faltering.

Luna kicks her left leg high enough to Jasper's face, but once again failed when Jasper caught her ankle effortlessly. Luna tried to keep her balance and break free from Jasper's grasp at the same time but only able to do the former, the latter...not so much.

Jasper's smirk turned into a smile before he pulls Luna towards him using her ankle. The raven-haired girl gracefully crashed into his chest as his left hand wrapped around her waist and his right one hooked under Luna's leg which was up against his side.

Their foreheads are now touching and the two couldn't help but smile widely. While Jasper enjoys the position that they are in right now, Luna took it as an opportunity to catch him off guard.

Luna grabbed his right arm that was holding up her leg and turned around, taking Jasper's weight onto her shoulder as she flipped him over and dropped him to the ground.

The Cullens smiled as they watched the two, Emmett cheering from behind Rosalie.

Luna straddled Jasper and pinned his arms to the ground, having a clear view of Jasper's surprised expression.

"Never lose focus." Luna said, mocking Jasper.

Luna leaned down and pecked Jasper's nose before pulling away slightly.

"You lose, Major." Luna said, feeling victorious.

Luna stood up and offered a hand to Jasper. He gladly accepted it and hugged her immediately, Luna's arms automatically snaking around his neck.

"You truly are amazing." Jasper said and Luna could only laugh in response.

"Hey." Luna heard Jackie said.

The raven-haired girl whipped her head towards the short-haired brunette leaning against the car.

"Hey." Luna greeted back as she approached her.

Luna leaned back on the car as well beside Jackie before she spoke.

"You seem happy with Jasper." Jackie said, her gaze fixated on the honey-blonde vampire talking to Bella.

"What gave that away, the wide smile on my face or the excessive twinkle in my eyes." Luna joked.

Jackie shakes her head as she laughed softly. Once her laugh ended, her eyes then shifted to Luna, and sees that her joke wasn't exactly a joke. While Luna was staring at Jasper, a wide, bright smile was plastered on her face and Jackie could see the twinkle in her eyes.

"I'm glad you found him." Jackie said.

The statement made Luna avert her eyes from her soulmate and towards Jackie.

"Contrary to popular belief, the lion fell in love with the lioness. You have a powerful bond with him. It's hard to find something like that." Jackie said.

Luna liked what she said, in fact, she loved it. She narrowed her eyes at the brunette before she spoke.

"You know, I'm starting to accept you as my future sister-in-law." Luna said.

Jackie smiled and laughed softly before Alice came.

"I'm gonna steal my girlfriend now." Alice told Luna before clasping her hand with Jackie's and pulling her away from Luna.

The raven-haired girl's attention went back to her soulmate and heard what he and her twin sister were talking about, causing her to approach the two.

"I didn't know there was another way until I met Alice. She took me under her wing and helped me. That's when Carlisle found us and took us under his. Everything was fine, almost complete with them. But there was still something missing. I never knew what it was...'til I found Luna." Jasper said, his voice holding so much emotion.

"Technically, I found you because I was the one who bumped into you." Luna said as she wrapped her arms around his waist.

Jasper smiles and brings his left hand on her arm and one to caress her cheek.

"My life would likely remain dull if I hadn't met her." Jasper said, his gaze never leaving as he swam into Luna's similar golden ones.

"You can never meet someone louder and more sarcastic than me. I'm once in a blue moon." Luna said, staring back at his eyes.

The two gazed into each other's eyes, captivated by how their pupils dilated at how strong their love is for one another, until Luna looked past Jasper's shoulders and saw Emmett holding Luna's water bottle. She flipped.

"Emmett! For the millionth time, stop drawing mustaches on my Iron Man bottle!" Luna exclaimed at the top of her lungs that made everyone in the area flinch and laugh as Emmett ran for his life.
