ONCE IN A BLUE MOON

TYPICAL LUNA SWAN, receiving detention on the very first day back to school. Bella wishes she can be surprised but she's not. When it comes to her sister, nothing surprises her anymore. She'd come to accept that Luna is unlike any ordinary girl that wants to live a somewhat normal life. She's bold. She'll fight for what she wants. Even though she knows she's gonna lose, she'll make sure that she'll go down swinging and shouting.

She was told by the principal that after school, she'll be having detention. So, while her classes are still on going, she tries to entertain herself as much as possible. Because later on, she'll be bored out of her mind.

Her next class was History. It took a bit of help from Bella for her to find the class before she finally did. As soon as she set foot in the room, she sees everyone's eyes on her, a wave of whispers to be heard around the room. Luna didn't scan the room enough to find Jasper sitting at the back of the class, observing her reaction. He knew that, anytime, she'll shout at the poor students. He was right.

Luna rolls her eyes and sucks in a breath, about to shout at the top of her lungs to scare the shit out of her classmates but she wasn't able to when someone yanked her by the arm, the cold touch sending shivers down her spine before pulling her to the back of the class and sitting her down.

She was about to scream at the person who had the nerve to touch her when her stormy blue eyes landed on his golden ones, knocking the air out of her lungs. She was so mesmerized by his familiar golden eyes that she had to mentally-No-she had to physically slap herself to snap out of it.

To Jasper's surprise, Luna slaps herself across the face. His eyes widening and his eyebrows slightly pushing together as he stares at the weird girl.

"Ow. That hurts." Luna muttered under her breath. She palms her reddened cheek, trying to rub away the sting that was left by her own harsh slap. Now she knows how her victims felt when she slapped them.

"Well, you shouldn't have slapped yourself, then." Jasper answered.

Luna slowly turns towards to Jasper who is unfortunately (or fortunately. She can't really decide) her seatmate.

"You're not my dad, are you?" she asked.

"No." he answered.

"Then you have no right to tell me what to do."

"Do you even listen to your dad?"

"No."

"I figured."

Jasper looked away with another amused smile on his face. He wasn't one to have a conversation with someone he just met. But something in him just pushes himself to become more interactive when it comes to Luna. He finds it weird, but soon suspects that it has something to do with the vision Alice saw.

"So, you have detention?" Jasper asked, her eyes remained fixated at front just as their professor walked in.

"Yep." She answered, popping the 'p'. "On the first day of being back to school."

"How's it going so far?" he asked. Every after reply of his, he finds himself being confused about himself. He's really conversing with her, isn't he? Talking to her felt like a normal thing for him to do, but only because he thinks of her as a friend already. After all, she already has a nickname for him. Little did he know that 'Goldilocks' is only one of the long list of nicknames she has for him.

"Shitty. But I met you and Emmett. So, it became less shitty." She answered, not bothering to look at the boy.

A small smile tugged on his lips. He turns to glance at the girl with the same smile still playing on his lips.

"I'm glad I made your first day bearable, ma'am." Jasper said, his tone resembling that of a teasing one. Something that is completely out of the ordinary for him.

"Don't get too cocky, cowboy. I said you and Emmett. Not you only." Luna said.

Jasper shakes his head as he stifled a laugh when she called him cowboy. Luna eyes her seatmate with squinted eyes before she spoke again.

"I thought you were the quiet type." Luna said. She thought that the boy is used to keeping to himself because of the way he talks, faint and soft. But she can tell that his voice now was somehow interested. That he was actually enjoying conversing with her.

"From time to time, I like to talk to people. As long as they don't annoy me." Jasper answered.

"Does that mean I don't annoy you?" Luna asked, an intrigued smile appearing on her lips.

"Depends on the moment. You annoyed me the first time we met." Jasper stated.

Luna furrowed her eyebrows. "What? Why?"

"You told me to watch where I'm going when it was you who bumped into me." Jasper said, his gaze still fixated on the professor in front of them, not noticing that the two have been talking the entire time he's been teaching.

"Well, you were blocking my way." Luna justified.

This made Jasper furrow his eyebrows and avert his eyes towards the girl.

"No, I wasn't. You just weren't looking." Jasper said.

"Are you telling that it's my fault?" Luna retorted.

"Well, isn't it?"

"No, it isn't."

"It is."

"It isn't."

"It is."

"It isn't."

"Ehem." The professor in front cleared his throat when he finally noticed the two who were peacefully conversing with one another and now arguing about whose fault it is that they bumped into each other.

Jasper and Luna shifted their gazes towards the professor.

"Am I interrupting something?" said the professor, his voice rather stern.

"I'd be lying if I say you aren't. But I'd have my ass thrown out when I say you are. So, I don't exactly know what to tell you." Luna bluntly said.

Jasper simply sighs in frustration as he closes his eyes and pinches the bridge of his nose.

I can't believe I even thought that we can have a normal conversation. Jasper thought.

He crosses his arms against his chest and didn't bother to start another conversation with Luna who slumps back into her seat with also an annoyed expression plastered across her face.

Bella was forced to stay at school even after classes because she needed to wait for Luna who apparently has detention. Luckily for her, the Cullen's decided to keep her company while she waited for her sister especially since Edward, Rosalie, and Alice wants to introduce themselves, much to Jasper's dismay.

When she walked out of the school building, she immediately saw the group of students huddled around Bella's red truck. All she could recognize were of course, her sister, Edward, Emmett, and unfortunately, Jasper.

"You didn't have to wait for me. I could've hotwired a car and drove myself home." Luna said as soon as she reached Bella.

"That's exactly why I waited for you. Because you're actually capable of doing something like that." Bella answered.

Luna smirks before her eyes landed on her History seatmate, a scowl on his face.

"Howdy, cowboy!" She shouted as she greeted Jasper.

Jasper flinched at the loudness of her voice, especially when they have enhanced hearing. The others managed to deal with the volume of her voice but Jasper found it not only loud, but also annoying, hence, making him flinch.

He soon rolled his eyes and walks away, going towards the driver's seat of their car.

"Don't mind him." Said the pixie-haired girl which made Luna avert her eyes towards her. "I'm Alice Cullen, by the way."

The overjoyed girl jumped with a bright smile on her face before attacking Luna with a tight hug.

"Oh, okay." Luna said, her arms stiff on her side as she forced a tight-lipped smile.

"I'm so glad to finally meet you!" Alice said.

"Yay! Me too!" Luna replied, imitating the tone and pitch of Alice's voice with a hint of mockery in it.

Alice finally pulls away from Luna, a cute giggle escaping her lips.

"Don't do that again." Luna told her.

"Oh, yes. I'm sorry. I was just really excited." Alice responded.

Luna pushes her lips into a thin line as she nodded slowly.

"I'm Rosalie Hale. Emmett's girlfriend." Rose said, giving her a polite smile as per Emmett's request.

Luna furrows her eyebrows in confusion. But before she could ask anything, the boy beside Bella spoke.

"We haven't officially met. I'm Edward Cullen." Said Edward.

"Right! My sister's boyfriend who has my daddy yapping. You have my respect. Never seen my dad be so annoyed at someone the same way I annoy him." Luna stated.

Edward nodded at the girl with his eyebrows pushed together, not entirely sure if he should take that as a compliment or not.

"I hope you don't mind me asking, but even if you do mind, I'd still ask it anyway, but, how-" Luna said, waving her hands around as she gestured to the whole Cullen/Hale family. "You know. I-I don't get it."

A smile spreads across Edward's face before he took it upon himself to answer her question.

"We're adoptive siblings. Carlisle and Esme adopted us. We're not really siblings by blood, except for Rosalie and Jasper." Edward answered, keeping the honesty to a limit considering that he or the whole family doesn't want Luna to know the whole truth just yet.

A lot of people have been asking about their family as well, and they say the same thing. Jasper and Rosalie looked the most alike that they decided that Jasper should take Rosalie's last name which is Hale to make it look like they're the actual biological siblings adopted by Carlisle and Esme when in fact, Carlisle took all of them, including Esme, under his wing. No one was related to the others by blood, but only by bond which was more than enough for them.

"Oh, I see." Luna said as she nodded.

"Well, I'd love to invite you back to our home but Bella told us that Charlie needs you straight home after detention." Alice said.

Luna turns to Bella and she nodded at her sister in agreement.

"Yeah, okay. I guess I'll see you guys tomorrow, though that brooding one back there won't be too happy to see me again." Luna said, pointing at Jasper who sat in the car.

Jasper scoffs, hearing the girl's words because of his enhanced hearing.

Bella and Luna climbs in the truck while the rest of the Cullen's approach their cars. Edward sits on the passenger's seat and shoots Jasper a grin.

"Howdy, cowboy." He teased.

This made the others let out a laugh, especially Emmett while Jasper simply rolled his eyes before driving away from school.
