ONCE AGAIN, LUNA ATTENDED SCHOOL with an unbothered aura. The school still has no idea what happened to her, thanks to Charlie who asked the state police to keep Luna's name off the papers. Though, Jeremy's and Hannah's names were all over the news. And since Forks is a relatively small town, news travels incredibly fast.
"That Hannah girl does look evil." Whispered the girl from a couple of feet away from her. Sometimes, having enhanced hearing is a disadvantage for Luna.
The bell just rang for lunch and Luna was putting─no scratch that─throwing books inside her locker, like she usually does. However, today was much harsher because of the number of whispers that she had heard about Hannah and Jeremy since she arrived. It was starting to make her tremble in both panic and anger.
"And Jeremy? Gosh, is the girl delusional? I would've let him do me!" said the other girl, earning a few giggles from her group.
Luna slams the door of her locker and whips her whole body around, her raven hair flying. Her stomps were as loud as the thumping of her heart (at least for Luna's ears). She was marching towards the group of girls that had her fuming when a pair of strong arms suddenly lifts her up from the ground and drags her back next to her locker.
"Not so fast, Moonie. We don't want you ripping hearts out just yet." Emmett said as he dragged her back to her locker.
"I'm not gonna rip their hearts out. Who do you think I am?" Luna told him, faking her calmness for Emmett to let go of her, which worked.
Emmett unwraps his arms around the raven-haired girl and she adjusts her shirt before fixating her fierce gaze towards the girls.
"I'm just gonna rip their heads off." Luna muttered as she attempted to make her way towards the group of air-headed girls again before she was once again held back by Emmett. Edward then arrives just as Emmett was keeping Luna from unleashing hell upon the whole school.
"Good morning?" Edward said, though more like he meant it as a question due to how the two were doing.
Emmett forces the raven-haired girl to look at him as his hands around each of her arms slowly becoming gentle when she started to slightly calm down.
"Hey. Don't you think you should save your strength for something more worth it and satisfying?" Emmett told her, referring to finally putting an end to Jeremy, if he really is still alive and walking freely as a vampire like they suspected.
However, Luna somehow interpreted the message wrong and her cheeks began to turn pink. But after just a second, her face became as white as a vampire's when her thoughts began to wander into her dark experience once again.
Edward, who got a glimpse of Luna's thoughts, quickly butts in to clear the misunderstanding.
"Emmett was talking about getting revenge on Jeremy." Edward told Luna.
Luna's thoughts were interrupted and her eyebrows shoot up in realization due to Edward's words.
"I know that." Luna said. Edward decided against dragging the conversation longer and simply nodded.
Jeremy was right. Luna thought. Just even thinking about things like that makes Luna anxious.
"I'll just find Bella." Edward said, not being able to just stand there and pretend he doesn't hear her thoughts before leaving the two.
The supposed Hale twins then approaches their mates and greeted them both with the warmest of smiles despite being the coldest ones on earth.
"Hey, cowboy." Luna greeted the honey-blonde vampire.
Jasper smiles at his soulmate as he greeted back. "Hey."
Rose looks at Jasper with narrowed eyes as soon as she noticed him being okay with Luna calling him cowboy, after refusing to be called that way many times.
"What just happened?" she asked him.
Jasper looks at Luna as he shrugged before he turns towards his adoptive sister.
"I let her call me 'cowboy' because if I don't, I'd have to listen to her shout at me. And that's not a very pleasant thing to experience when you have enhanced hearing." Jasper stated.
Luna smirks mischievously at her soulmate while Emmett and Rose couldn't help the grins that made its way to their lips.
"That's actually true." Rose said.
Emmett wraps his arm around Rosalie before he spoke up.
"You should've heard her the other day. We found a scorpion in the forest and she screamed 'yeet!' next to my ear." Emmett said, grimacing when he remembered how Luna's scream almost damaged his eardrums.
"I hate creepy crawlies." Luna muttered.
Jasper shakes his head before his gaze drops down to the girl's hand.
"May I?" he asked.
Luna has been noticing Jasper being cautious about making physical contact with her. He would always ask for her permission first before he would hold her hand or hug her. She knew it was because he was afraid that he might freak her out, which she actually appreciates.
"You were a good cowboy. So, you may." Luna said, a hint of mockery to be heard from her voice but still lets Jasper intertwines his hand with hers.
The two couples walked down the hallway, earning the stares from their schoolmates. They met with Edward and Bella before they enter the cafeteria. Alice was still with Jackie, trying to apologize to her. The former cheerleader appreciates Alice's effort to be forgiven. And slowly, she was starting to.
"Hey." Eric greeted when Bella, Edward, Luna, and Jasper made their way to the table.
"Just in time. Alright, check it out." Mike said.
Bella warned her friends that Luna and Jasper would be sitting with them with lunch, so she asked them to be nice and everything. The same goes for her twin sister. Bella wanted Luna to give Jessica and the others a chance for them to be friends. She said it's their senior year, and they should make the most of it.
"Alright, let's see what you got." Eric told Mike.
The blonde boy held up the pencil in his hand as he suggests a few cliché lines to include in Jessica's valedictorian speech.
"'My fellow students'." Mike started.
"Cool." Eric already commented.
"Right?" Mike replied, not sparing Eric a glance but simply points his pencil at him before continuing.
"'We are the future. Anything is possible...if you just believe'." Mike said, looking at Jessica as if he had just created a great speech.
"Nice." Angela said, with sarcasm of course.
"Blah, blah, blah. Perfect. You got yourself a speech." Mike said as he slides the paper across the table and towards Jessica.
Jessica caught the piece of paper before she replied.
"No. This would be my speech, if I want everyone to throw diplomas at my head. So..." Jessica said then crumples the paper up and throws it at Mike's face, who wasn't even fazed by it. "Thank you," she added.
"You gotta embrace the clichés, Jess."
"They have the bread and butter of all valedictorians."
"Hmm. And that's why you're not valedictorian."
"Oof. That would've been a nightmare."
Everyone turned to Luna after she spoke up. Eric looked at her with a faux offended expression.
"And why is that?" he asked.
"Because you would've said something rubbish, gibberish, bullshit, and everything that's synonyms with nonsense." Luna replied, leaning towards Jasper unknowingly while the vampire simply smiles as he watched his soulmate.
"Yeah, like what?" Eric said.
Luna looks up with her narrowed eyes as if she was thinking, then cleared her throat.
"'My fellow students. We are the future. Anything is possible, if you just believe'." Luna said, earning confused looks from everyone on the table.
"But that's what Mike said." Angela said.
"Exactly. Both of them are equally stupid." Luna replied.
The others laughed at Luna's reply while Mike and Eric made faces at her. Luna simply smirked at the two before turning towards Jasper who she found looking at her adoringly.
"Jess doesn't need clichés. Speech is gonna be epic." Bella said, earning a smile from her boyfriend.
"Epic? It'll change lives." Jessica replied confidently.
Jasper was still gawking at his soulmate and it almost made her blush until Alice finally showed up and sat on the other side of the honey-blonde vampire.
"I've decided to throw a graduation party." Alice said.
Jasper slightly raises an eyebrow at Alice's idea before turning towards Edward.
"After all, how many times we gonna graduate high school." Jasper said.
Edward couldn't help but give a small smile at Jasper's remark as Luna just shook her head.
"A party? At your place?" Angela said, an excited smile to be seen on her face while Jessica looked at the Cullens in disbelief.
"I've never seen your house." Jessica said, still looking at them with a straight, yet, curious face.
"No one's ever seen their house." Eric said.
"Aside from me and Bella, of course." Luna chimed in, shooting them a forced tight-lipped smile after.
"Another party, Alice?" said Edward, his tone implying that it may not be a good idea.
"It'll be fun!" Alice insisted.
"Yeah. That's what you said the last time." Bella said.
Luna thought for a moment about what they were talking about until she felt her soulmate become tensed. He looks away from Bella and his adoptive siblings and just dropped his gaze to the table. Luna looks at his hand resting on his thigh, and she reaches for it, intertwining her fingers with his. She looked away from Jasper as if she hadn't done something entirely selfish and Jasper could only look at his soulmate and smile warmly.
While she tries her best to not meet Jasper's gaze, she noticed Alice in that weird state she always gets herself into when a vision is playing before her eyes.
"Guys, have you heard about the new substitute teacher for History class?" Bella asked, trying to take their attention away from Alice so they won't notice her weird state.
"Yeah. I heard she was just two years older than us." Jessica responded.
"I also heard she's hot!" Eric said, causing him to be slapped by Angela on the shoulder.
Alice's vision just finished and her worried gaze flickered between Bella and Luna. The raven-haired girl looked at Alice as if she was asking her if she's okay. Alice simply swallowed hard before glancing away from Luna.
Luna furrows her eyebrows at the pixie-haired girl. Jasper earned Luna's attention by squeezing the girl's hand lightly.
"I'll take care of it." Whispered Jasper.
Luna nodded once before returning her attention back to the others.
"I've always wanted a sub teacher for history." Mike said.
"Wait, what happened to our history teacher?" Luna asked.
Luna hasn't been paying attention in history class considering that she and Jasper have been stealing glances from the other as if they're not seated next to each other.
"He's on sick leave." Angela answered.
Then, suddenly, Alice, Edward, Jasper, and Luna caught a weird scent that came from outside the cafeteria. The three vampires became alert from the unfamiliar vampire's scent while Luna remained confused.
The doors swung open and the loud clicking of heels was to be heard as a captivating redhead strolled into the doors with her hair, lips, shirt, and shoes as red as fire. Her black blazer and skirt toned down a whole lot of red from her appearance.
"That's her!" Eric exclaimed in a whisper.
Everyone else in the cafeteria stared at the woman in awe while the three vampires glared at her and Luna looks at her in horror. But not because she was afraid of her.
"I have never seen so much red in one person before. It's horrific." Luna said.
The redhead roams her gaze around the room and once it landed on their table, the woman sends a wink before casually walking away to get herself some food (even if she won't eat it anyway.)
The Cullens and the Swans could only share glances as they wondered about why a random vampire is in town.
