In the beginning, there were the Greek Gods.

They ruled over every aspect of the universe, their influence widespread and omnipotent. They lived with an iron hold all whilst not moving from their palace in Olympus, the planet of the Gods. For centuries they exercised their power, responsible for the rising of the Earth's golden star to the setting of the silver moon and everything far and few between.

But then there was Melaina, the Goddess of darkness. She had existed well before the Titans and Olympians. Being one of the first deities to ever exist, the daughter of Nyx and Erebus. But she was sentenced to slavery in Tartarus for siding with the Titans during the Titan War. Having to serve a millennium of solitude for her crimes.

Chaos thrived in her blood, anarchy captivating her mind. She was a warrior, a literal God amongst men. And after an eternity of grueling retribution, she was aching to release her darkness on the world. Ready to make up for all that lost time and suffering in the deep depths of Tartarus. Living in the fiery inferno of the Underworld.

But alas, the Olympians weren't finished with her yet. Her repentance wasn't achieved, her sins still burned at the forefront of their minds. So they sent her on a mission to Earth, her final task before she was granted her the 5 interrupted years of freedom she had earnt after a millennium of slavery.

She was sent to Earth to investigate the appearance of the Norse Gods. The two different legends clashed venomously and had little patience for each other. But when the Olympians had found out that Thor had visited Earth, they had to know why. And as such, they sent their personal slave Melaina to enact their reprisal.

And her timing couldn't have been more perfect. She arrived on the green planet mere moments after the collapse of SHIELD at the hands of none other than Loki. Encapsulated with rage, Melaina approached Nick Fury with a proposal, that she would assist his fight against the Norse God. And of course, Fury did not refuse.

Suddenly Melaina was thrust into the life of an Avenger, forced to work with mortals that fought battles far inferior to that of the Titan War. They were fickle beings, brimming with deceit and corruption. Straying far from what they had been when Zeus created the first race of humans. But she found herself attached to the race, feeling an urge to help protect the species that were so inferior to her. To sustain their ephemerality, to protect their light.

Darkness existed purely off the absence of light, and yet Melaina found herself ironically drawn to an unusual source of light. The purest, burning supernova in the universe: Steve Rogers. A man with a constellation of stars dazzling in his eyes and blazing with fearless strength.

Their love would prove to make the stars bleed, a battle of darkness against light. Mortality against Immortality. Salvation against ruination. The pair began to truly understand what it meant to be a string puppet of Eros, dangling at his command. And their love came at a cost, one that made Aphrodite weep.

Because even the brightest stars die, falling from the heavens and leaving the world in darkness.

This story was created from my own original ideas and storyline so please don't steal or plagiarise my work. Any stories that are similar to mine in the plot or OC's are purely coincidence as I never would want to copy someone's work. Wattpad is the only platform on which I post my work, so if you come across my story on any other website please notify me so I can have the story removed.

All characters and events from the Marvel Cinematic Universe that can be found in this story belong to Marvel and Marvel only. I do not own any of the characters or the plot from Avengers and Captain America: The Winter Soldier which this book is based off.

Due to the constant reference of Greek Mythology (duh), there are many scenes and aspects of this story that are reminiscent of the Percy Jackson series by Rick Riordan (what a legend!). HOWEVER, I am not copying his works at all. I have merely taken inspiration from his portrayal of the Greek Gods and incorporated them in my own unique way. This does mean that there will be certain similarities between both the works but I will try my best to ensure they are as different as possible. So please do not leave comments saying I have copied his work.

Also a huge thank you to -effloresxceneΒ for the beautiful cover! Go check out her account, it's magnificent!!!
