𝔚hen Piper had gone to the Apollo cabin, she hadn't quite realised that her tattoos would be magical. That minor little detail had been left out of the contract that she had signed before they'd out her in a chair and started adding tattoos to her skin.
So, when the birds on her chest flew around her rib cage, Piper had freaked out. Thus followed a lot of screaming, shouting and general fear until she calmed down and talked to the Apollo cabin again. That tattoo artists calmed her down, explaining that the tattoos would move depending on what they were and what they were designed to do. That last bit was for her to work out and come to her conclusions.
Piper had dived into research, speaking to others who had the tattoos, reaching out to her friends and reading texts about the magical properties of them.
It was from there that Piper learnt about the whole soulmate theory bit and how tattoos could occasionally show who you were destined to be with. Ever since then, she'd kept a close eye on her tattoos, hoping that one would be the thing she needed to connect with the person that she was destined to love for all eternity, either platonically or romantically.
But, nothing was ever that simple, least of all for the Daughter of Love, who had a mother who's job seemed to be meddling in things that didn't concern her. In particular, Aphrodite seemed to have taken a sudden interest in her lifestyle and Piper wasn't best pleased about that.
So, even a year after she had gotten her last tattoo, Piper still hadn't seen if one of them would show her who her soulmate was.
"Piper, we are going to be late!" Piper groaned, rolling over and pushing herself up. Stretching, the now college aged demigod, stumbled to the shower in her dorms in New Rome, waking herself up and getting ready to leave for lectures.
Piper wiped the condensation off the mirror, tilting her head back and forth to look for spots or any marks on her face. There was nothing, and she raised her arm to run her hand through her hair, before pausing.
There were eyes in the mirror.
Well, obviously, there were her eyes looking in the mirror in the bathroom, but there, on her elbow, were a pair of eyes in the shattered mirror. They were beautiful, distorted but beautiful, staring at her with panic and Piper's heart skipped a beat. She'd never seen them before, they weren't hers, nor any of her closest friends, but they were watching her like she owed them something.
In a mere moment, the eyelids fluttered shut, and when Piper glanced away for a second, the eyes were gone and it was replaced with the mirror like ink once more.
One thing stood out in Piper's mind though, one thing that she was certain of, this was her soulmate. She just had to work out who the eyes belonged to.
∘☽༓☾∘
At first, Piper had only ever seen the eyes once a week, maybe once every five days or so but as they got closer to summer break, the eyes began to appear more and more frequently.
Piper was getting concerned.
Now, every morning, she would wake up and the pair of panicked, sometimes tear filled eyes, were present in the mirror. Sometimes, Piper could work out the other person was horrified. Sometimes, she thought, if she listened closely enough, that they pain filled eyes were accompanied by this horrific scream of terror.
Piper was worried for the person, whoever or where ever they were.
"Piper, come on." Her roommate, Maddie, was a daughter of Hermes from Camp Half-Blood and the pair had been allocated to each other in the first term and hadn't left each other's side since. It was nice to have someone from home around them. "Look, I'm sure you'll work out who the eyes belong to."
"There are like seven billion people in the world, it could belong to anyone!" Piper groaned, slinging her bag over her shoulders. "How am I supposed to find one pair of eyes in all of that? "
"Well, they're a demigod, that narrows it down."
"What?"
"They have to be a demigod. If the eyes are looking at you, I assume they've got a mirror tattoo and you're looking back at them." Piper processed that for a moment. "Narrows it down, doesn't it?"
"Yeah." Piper nodded, as they strolled through the street, before entering the lecture hall. "I didn't think of that."
"Sometimes, everyone goes for the obvious answer and doesn't think of the one right in front of their eyes. Did you finish the assignment for yesterday?" Maddie moved the conversation on, both of them sitting down in the lecture hall that was steadily filling with people. Plugging her laptop in, Piper fired it up as she nodded. "Apparently Jess, you remember Jess, she was out last night at a party, didn't get it until 11:30 and then had to type out her essay in 30 minutes and submitted it 1 minute before it was due in."
"Shit. She cut it close."
"That's what I said. Don't think she's expecting a good mark because she did part of it drunk." Maddie laughed. "But you know, better that it went in so at least she could get some marks than nothing went in and she got a 0."
"True." Piper made a new document as the lecturer appeared. "What are you doing for summer by the way?"
"Going back to New York, going to Camp Half-Blood and all that." Maddie whispered as the lecturer tried to get everyone's attention. "I thought you were coming with me?"
"I am." Piper nodded. "But you didn't actually tell me what time we were leaving."
"Oops." Maddie shrugged, shooting Piper a grin. "I'm not sure. I'll check the tickets when we get home, but my sister is going to pick us up in New York and then drive us to Camp."
"Great, great." Piper nodded, before tuning back into what the lecturer was saying so that she could make notes. The eyes were still ever present in her mind, but Piper had to focus on other things.

"Gods, it's good to be back." Piper grinned, grinning at Maddie, who was also humming in agreement. Both girls were basking in the summer sun on Long Island, towels and water bottles in hand as they headed for the beach.
Supposedly, they should be with their cabins doing activities, but older returning campers got a few days off before they were dragged back into the swing of things, to catch up on work, sleep and socialisation.
The beach wasn't busy, there were people here and there, all older campers as Piper and Maddie dodged a couple of people, waving hellos here and there.
"Hey!" Maddie waved her hand madly at a group of people ahead of them, dragging Piper along with her to introduce her. There were three girls and two boys, two of whom were Maddie's siblings, one a Daughter of Hecate, another a Daughter of Apollo and then her twin brother, who was also a Son of Apollo. "Everyone, this is Piper. She's my roommate at university. Piper, this is everyone."
They went around, introducing everyone to her as Piper grinned and shook their hands, taking note of all of their names.
It only took a moment, before a beach volleyball was brought out, the group beginning to split into teams and start the game. Despite the summer sun, the group continued to play, sweat building up and laughter and curses being thrown around as the group threw themselves in and out of the sand.
"Give me a moment." Piper called, pulling her shirt over her head, so that she was just in a bikini top, before picking up her sunscreen. Lathering it on, Piper watched as Maddie's younger sister, the one who had picked them up at the airport, joined her at the side, also yanking her shirt off.
"Gods above, I'm so sweaty." The girl groaned, pulling her hair back from her face as Piper laughed. "You would think, having been here every summer since I was thirteen, I would get used to it but never."
"It's a different type of hot though." Piper turned to look at her, before narrowing. "Cool tattoo."
"What?" The girl looked down, before seeing the shattered mirror that covered the area near her heart and collar bone. "Oh yeah, got it done by Apollo cabin about six months ago. I love it though."
"It's great." Piper grinned. "I've got one like it. See?"
Piper held her elbow up as the other girl looked at it.
"Cool! Yeah, I saw the ink that makes it look like a mirror and I just had to get it, like it looked so incredible." She grinned at Piper. "Did cost so much though."
"Yeah, but worth it." There was a hum of agreement, before they were dragged back into the game of volleyball.
Piper found herself on a team with the younger daughter of Hermes with the mirror tattoo, both of them laughing hysterically at the various antics of everyone else in that little group. It was fun, stress free and Piper needed it after everything over the past few years.
"Hey, good game." Piper came face to face with the girl with the mirror tattoo, who beamed as she reached out a hand to help haul Piper out of the sand.
"Thank you." The girl beamed again, shooting Piper a toothy grin, before grabbing her things and disappearing with Maddie, with one final wave directed back over her shoulder at Piper.

Piper woke up with another start, gasping for air as she groaned. Something had yanked her away and Piper only needed to look in the mirror at her elbow to see the eyes in the mirror. They were tear filled and Piper sighed.
Stepping out of the cabin, Piper sat down on the cabin porch for some fresh air. Cicadas were chirruping in the long grass and stars twinkled above them. It was quiet, and peaceful and then a door slammed shut.
Piper looked up.
Maddie's sister was standing on the porch of Cabin Eleven, taking deep breaths as she clutched onto the railing of the cabin. Her back was hunched, deep breaths racking through her as Piper's eyebrows furrowed.
"Hey...?" She called out quietly. The other girl's head snapped up, catching her eyes as Piper jumped off her own porch and wandered over. Leaning on the railing, Piper looked up before her eyes went wide.
She recognised those eyes. She knew them, having seen them on her elbow often enough.
"It's you." Piper whispered. "You...you're the eyes. I should have known, should have guessed when I saw the mirror."
She met Piper's eyes, the beautiful pair just as panic filled as Piper softened.
"Wha-" She trailed off, not sure what to say as Piper waited. "You're the person in the mirror. The kaleidoscope eyes."
"Yeah." Piper nodded, with a slight laugh as she felt soft hands on her face, tilting her chin up for the daughter of Hermes to admire her. Piper's grin grew soft, leaning into her touch. "Please tell me you're alright. I've been so worried about you over the past few months."
"I'm alright, I promise." She laughed. "I didn't think I'd find you here of all place. I thought I'd be searching forever to try and find you. There could have been so many people and then Maddie said that I should meet you-"
"Maddie?"
"Yeah, she said that you and I would get along well." Both of them laughed.
"She knew. That sly girl." Piper chuckled again, before hearing the screech of a harpy. "I have to go. We'll talk tomorrow, about all of this. Yeah?"
Piper nodded, turning away to hurry back to the Aphrodite cabin, before a call of her name had her turning. The body of the other girl almost slammed into her, soft hands falling onto her shoulders as lips pressed against her cheek. In an instance, the daughter of Hermes was gone again, and Piper was left blushing as Cabin Eleven door's shut before the screech of a harpy sent her rushing back to her home.

epilogue
"Pipes!" There was a shout for her as Piper grinned, holding her suitcase in one hands as she grinned at her girlfriend. The smaller girl was rushing over, sign in hand to welcome her back to New York.
"Hi babe." Piper beamed, wrapping her girlfriend in a hug and pressing a kiss to her lips softly as the girl giggled. "You didn't have to come and pick me up."
"I wasn't letting you get the bus." Piper beamed, watching her with soft eyes as her girlfriend grinned. "Come on. We should get going."
"You're the best." They meandered towards the car, laughing and telling each other about their time at university, funny stories of people they knew, explanations on who they had met and might have mentioned in passing and what they were hoping to do over their summer break together.
They were both descending into giggles.
"I haven't seen you in the mirror as much." Piper twisted towards her as she ate her burger. They'd stopped in for fast food before going back to their healthy diet that they had to have at Camp. Now, they were stuck in the parking lot, munching on burgers and tossing french fries back and forth, sipping on their sodas periodically. "That's good."
"I'm happier." Piper smiled at that. "Therapy helps, I've talked out my fears, the nightmares are getting a less and less frequent."
"I'm glad." Piper pulled her girlfriend's hands to her lips, kissing it. "I love you."
"I love you too."
Music blared, the windows were down and sunshine floated through as Piper thanked her mother for not meddling in her love life too much and allowing her to meet the daughter of Hermes. She also thanked all the gods that she hadn't bothered to read the small print that came with the mirror tattoo, knowing that she would chicken out otherwise.
She had been blessed with her soulmate, and Piper would be damned if she let anything happen to her.

Hiya,
Not my best or most favourite of the soulmate ones, but you know, we move. Anyway, so this was if Piper and her soulmate were connected via a mirror that allowed the other to see when their partner was in distress. I don't love it, but we move.
Let me know what you think,
Love Li xx
