โ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธโ๏ธ๐ ๐๐๐๐๐๐ ๐๐ curses fell from Olivia's lips. They'd lost him which meant they'd also lost that little girl. She slammed her hand against the steering wheel. "Damnit!" She put the car in park, running her hands through her hair. Anger had been a living being inside her since they'd first found him. Being part wolf, she already had that natural anger to her, but when it came to her father it always won. It clawed at her chest, begging to be released.
"Hey, calm down. We can fix this." Allison calmly said, placing a hand on her sisters shoulder. "We're wolves, Olivia. Which means we can change and sniff him out. Once we find him, we mark it in our heads, turn back, and make a plan. Alright? It hasn't went to complete shit yet."
"What's the point." Olivia let her hands fall to her lap, closing her eyes as she took a deep breath. "Maybe we should just leave it alone, let the poor bastard die whenever God let's him."
Allison glanced at her. "I didn't know you were a religious person."
"I'm not. But I mean. . . the man that was supposed to be our father stripped our childhood away from us. And now we're chasing him down despite him not being in our lives for years. I mean, maybe it's safer not to open up old wounds."
Allison sat up in her seat, giving her sister and incredulous look. "Who are you and what have you done with my baby sister?" Olivia rolled her eyes. "Okay, the Olivia I know would never give up. She's fearless, strong, and would do anything to keep anyone safe. Where did she go?"
"I've never been fearless," Olivia whispered. "Ali, I'm scared of everything. My biggest fear came to life as soon as those accords were placed on the table. The people I've always seen as family have been ripped apart. I'm a wanted criminal which means I can't go home, I have two girls that are gonna be forced to stay on the run for who knows how long. I'm terrified. And that man, the man who calls himself our father, brings out my worst fears."
Allison shook her head. "You can't let him win, Liv. You can't. You're an Avenger for fucks sake! It's literally your job to take down the bad guys. That man has never been and never will be our father. A father doesn't experiment on their own kids and find pleasure in it."
"I wanna know when it all changed." Olivia said, wiping away her involuntary tears.
"What do you mean?"
"I was six years old when it started. But when I was five, he was my idol. I looked up to him. I laughed with him." She let out a sad laugh. "We had tickle wars. He taught me my different shapes and colors, he would play games with me. And then. . . then it was all just gone."
"I'm glad you had that side of him," Allison softly said, "but I never did. I only had this version of him. The cruel, cold, ruthless version of him. I'm sure it's harder for you." Olivia furrowed her brows. "I mean, you know, you had this one amazing version of him, and then you got this version. It's like losing someone."
"Let's not start comparing who's had it worse." Olivia warned. "Those conversations don't end well."
Allison nodded. "Fair." A sigh fell from her lips. "That little girl is counting on us, Liv. We can't let her down. We won't." Olivia met her eyes and nodded her head in agreement. "Let's go."
Tracking his scent wasn't hard and before they knew it they were back on the road again. Allison kept the window open, giving Olivia directions before they came to a stop. In front of them was a house. It was two stories, white, and had a fence surrounding it. There was a window at the bottom of the structure, cuing them that there was a basement. Olivia's eyes narrowed in disgust. "It's so fake. It's a facade."
"Does this feel all too familiar to you?" Allison mumbled.
"Yeah," Olivia breathed. Olivia pointed at a car sitting in the driveway. "That's his car. He's here. We should head back, figure out a plan."
"Or we could just barge in." Allison suggested. "The longer that girl is here, the higher the chance she'll die."
"And if we just barge in, he'll know and kill her anyways. I want to go in there just as badly as you do, Allison. But we have to be smart about this." She looked at her sister, waiting for Allison to meet her eyes. When she did, a sigh left the older Jade's lips, a sign that she was backing down. Olivia backed out of the driveway and headed back to the hotel they were staying at.
They made it to the room and Allison immediately jumped in the shower and Olivia laid on one of the beds, picking up the remote and flipping through the TV channels, not wanting to sit in silence. She turned her head when her cell phone started ringing, a small frown pulling on her lips. She picked up, looking at the unknown number before answering it.
"Hello?"
"Hey, kiddo."
A wide smile bloomed on Olivia's face and she almost burst into tears when she heard the familiar voice. "Clint. Oh, thank God. You're okay. How's Laura? The kids?"
Clint chuckled. "They're good. They're all good."
Her heart began to pounce in anticipation. "Are they. . . are they still there?"
"The girls are here and they're fed and healthy and getting along well with Lila."
A breath of relief fell from her lips. "You don't understand the weight that just left my shoulders."
"I briefly talked to Cap. He gave me your new number. And, well, he said some worrying things." Clint paused, hesitation clear. "He said you and Allison went after your father."
Olivia chewed on the inside of her cheek, looking down at her hands. "Yeah."
"Are you sure this is a good idea?"
"No," she truthfully answered. "But I mean, we're already here. I won't be gone long. Listen, just keep the girls safe for me? I owe you big time."
"Yes, yes you do."
"I'll come home soon." She promised. "I just have to tie up some loose ends."
"You be careful, alright?"
Olivia nodded, despite him not being able to see it. "I will."
"Have you heard from Nat?"
"No. But I'm sure she's okay. I miss her."
"Yeah, me too. Did you want to talk to the girls? They're still up."
Despite desperately wanting to, she knew it was safer if she ended the call sooner rather than later. "No. Can I just. . . y'know, listen in?" There was shuffling on the other end of the line before she heard it. The voices of her two girls, giggling and cutting up. A smile fell on her lips, a sense of relief washing over her, bringing tears to her eyes. "They sound so happy."
Clint brought the phone back to his ear. "They are. They miss their parents."
"I miss them too. And I know Nat does as well." She wiped away her tears. "I wish she would call."
"Well, you know how she is. She probably just trying to get a new cover. Goes dark. She'll come back. You don't have to worry about that."
"I know." She glanced up when Allison entered the room. "I have to go. We'll talk soon."
"Alright. Love you, Liv."
Olivia smiled. "I love you too." She hung up the phone, placing it on the bedside table.
Allison pointed at her. "Who was that? Natasha?"
"Clint," Olivia corrected. "Said the girls are fine."
Allison smiled, walking over and sitting on the edge of the bed. "Well that's good. See? I told you, you were worrying for no reason. Hey, we're out of towels. I'm gonna go to the front desk and get some more."
"Alright. I'll be here."
Allison chuckled and nodded before leaving the room.
