ALEX BREATHED OUT A SIGH OF RELIEF WHEN THE SCANNER FLASHED GREEN AS SHE WALKED THROUGH IT. She was walking beside Teresa with Thomas on the other side in their guard uniforms. Another guard came up to them, and they froze for a moment. Then, a nod of their head let them know that it was Newt, and they followed him down a set of stairs. Gally joined them as well.

Alex was a little out of it because just before they left, Newt had told her that he was bitten by a Crank. The infection on his leg was getting worse, and they needed to get him the serum. That was something huge to be sprung on her the moment before a rescue mission, but she needed to shake it off and focus on freeing everyone, getting Minho and the serum, and getting the hell out of there.

They busted into a room with guns at the ready just in case there were any actual WICKED guards in there. Once they saw that the coast was clear, they kept moving until Gally stopped at a box on the wall. He opened it and took off his mask. "Hold on. Hold on. I can get in here. Stay there."

"Frypan, we're in. How you doing?" Thomas asked, speaking into the walkie as they waited for Gally to do his thing so that Lawrence and the others back at the base could get into the server.

"I'm getting there," Fry answered. He was currently climbing a very very tall ladder above the city that would hops\efully lead him to where he could get access to the crane. It was a long story, but it was in order to help\ Brenda in case they needed him to. "Tell Minho 'Hi,' for me."

Thomas nodded, assuring him before switching to talk to the girl that was not with them to see how she was doing. "Hang in there, buddy. Brenda, what's your status?"

"Status is, I'm working on it," she responded. She was in charge of transportation for all of the kids that they were hopefully going to be saving along with Minho and Nick. "Don't worry. You know I'm gonna be there."

Once Gally figured everything out, they continued toward the holding room with Teresa's instructions. A guard opened the door, and Thomas immediately shot him and moved further into the room. The other guards there put their hands up and backed up, but they shot them anyway. It was just a taser gun. They would be fine. "All right, let's go. Get back, get back! Move! Come on, let's go."

"Get them open." Alex said, gesturing to all of the rooms, and Teresa walked over to the computers and started typing something. After a moment, she looked up, and the metal doors swung open, revealing kids sitting inside.

"Let's go. It's okay. You guys are okay. Come on. Come on, let's go," Thomas told the kids, and they hesitantly exited the room that he was standing in front of. He pointed to the blonde boy. "Newt, check the other cell."

Newt followed the orders and let the other people in the cell come out, scanning all of them for the one that they came there for. "Come on, you guys are okay. Come on."

"The vault," Gally said looking over at the girl that had been working in the building the last few months. She should know how they were going to get the serum out of the vault. "How do I get in?"

"You can't," she answered, and they all rolled her eyes.

The short-haired boy just pulled out his equipment that he was somehow going to use to open the door. It seemed like some of it involved a saw-like thing. Alex had not asked the specific details. "Guys, this might take some time."

"Nick," Alex breathed out when she saw the boy. She strided over to him in four big steps and wrapped her arms around him in a hug. He seemed shocked but copied her actions. She missed the look that he shot at Teresa in the process.

She noticed that he was in different clothes than everyone else. He was wearing a collared shirt and some slacks while the rest wore jeands and t-shirts. She brushed it off since it probably was not that serious. He looked fairly healthy, so they had not been starving him or anything. He pulled away after a moment and looked her in the eyes, still surprised. "What are you doing here?"

"Saving your dumb ass," she answered with a grin. She had not seen him in months, and she knew that Aris, Sonya, and Harriet had been really worried about him. So, she was happy that he was safe. She furrowed her eyebrows when she noticed something in his waistband. She was almost 100% sure that it was a gun.

"He's not here," Thomas announced, and the girl's stomach dropped as her attention snapped away from Nick. He turned to Teresa, wondering if she would lie to them again after everything they had been through. She helped them save all of the kids, so why would she not help them with Minho? "Where is he?"

She scanned something on the computer, typing some stuff in, and her eyebrows furrowed in confusion. They all looked at her expectantly, wondering what more they were going to have to do to get Minho. "Somebody's moved him up to the medical wing. Thomas, that's on the other side of the building."

"Okay, take me to him. Right now," the boy told her, getting ready to walk out of the door.

Newt stepped up as well, ready to go with them, his gun at the ready. They were all desperate to save Minho. They needed to. "I'm coming with you."

"Newt, no, you're not. You have to stay here, wait with Gally for the serum," Thomas ordered, and he was not in the mood for negotiating. Newt needed the serum as soon as possible. It would at least hold off the process of him turning until they could get him something else.

"You can't do this on your own," Newt insisted, shaking his head. Minho was his best friend, and he was going to whatever it took to save him, even if it meant risking his life. "Minho comes first, remember?"

Alex, knowing that Newt was not going to let Thomas go on his own, spoke up. "I'll go with him." She needed Newt to stay there with Gally. She needed him to. She had known him for four years. He was her family, and she would die protecting him.

"Newt, you're staying. Lexi, go. We're wasting time. We'll get the serum and meet you out back," Gally said, finishing the conversation. It made sense, and they really did not have time to argue.

Thomas nodded, liking that plan. "Okay. Let's go. Come on."

"Hold on," Alex muttered to him, and she jogged over to where Gally was standing by the vault. He looked down at her with furrowed eyebrows, confused until she grabbed the back of his neck and pulled him down to her. Their lips crashed together for the first time in forever. She heard Newt whistle at them, and she just flipped him off. She pulled away, and Gally had a stupid smile on his face.

"Wow," he whispered, and she ran back over to where Thomas was waiting for her. They started walking back down the hallway when Gally called after them. They turned their heads for a moment to see him nod at Thomas, which was probably the nicest thing he had ever done to the boy. "Hey, Greenie. Good luck."

They started walking down the hall and toward the elevator. Thomas grabbed Teresa's arm and pushed her a little bit. "Keep moving. Come on, come on." They stepped inside the elevator, Thomas and Alex behind Teresa.

"Hold it," a voice called just as the doors were closing, and Teresa pressed a button to keep the doors open so that Janson could step inside. He took the spot next to the girl and glanced at her. "You're working late. See, that's what I like about you, Teresa. No matter how bleak things get, you just... Well, you never give up. Times like this, you need a friend that you can count on."

"I'll bear that in mind," she responded, and Alex wondered how the hell Janson could not take the hint that she did not want to talk to him or be his friend.

"There is one thing you should know. One friend to another," the man informed her, and she raised her eyebrows at him, wondering what he was about to say. He announced, "Thomas is here. Surveillance picked him up outside the walls. Ava didn't want you to know, but there is a chance that he may try to contact you, and if he does, I'd like to think that I'd be your first call."

She looked at him with her best poker face as she tried to pretend like she did not care about the boy. "Are you going to kill him?"

"Would that be a problem?" Janson questioned, and she just shook her head slightly as the doors of the elevator slid open. He gestured to the floor before stepping out of the elevator. "This is me."

Once they got to their own floor, they began walking across some bridge that would lead to the other side of the building where Minho was. "Thomas, you have to listen to me. Getting that serum won't save Newt. It might buy him some time, but..."

"Just ignore her. She's trying to get inside your head," Alex told him since she still did not really trust Teresa. She was going to do anything to try and justify what she had been doing the past couple of months, telling them that it was okay to torture kids because it was to find a cure.

Teresa glared at her for a second since she was not helping her case and turned back to the only person who might listen to her. "Thomas, listen. You know what's going on out there. People are dying. The world is dying. There's something about your blood I don't understand. If you let me run some tests... I promise I can protect you."

"Yeah? Like you protected Minho?" he quizzed, finally whipping around. He took off his mask so that she could see his angry face, and Alex fought the urge to groan. She knew that that would be an awful idea, and it was going to come back to bite them in the ass. "What are you doing? How many people is it gonna take? How many more people do they have to round up, torture, kill? Huh? When the hell does it stop?"

"It stops when we find a cure," she responded.

Thomas finally cracked. Well, he had cracked before, but he had had some hope for a cure. They all did, but they were starting to realize that the chances of there being a real cure were very slim. "There is no goddamn cure!"

"Don't waste your breath, Teresa," the same voice from earlier said, and they all turned around to see Janson walking toward them with half a dozen behind him, guns raised. Most of them were pointed at Alex, weirdly. "He made his choice long ago. Drop it, kid!"

The boy just grabbed Teresa and pulled her toward him so that her back was against his chest. Then, he took out his gun and pointed it right at her head. "Back up. Tell them to back off. Tell them to back off!"

"Hey, Thomas, come on. It's me," Janson mused, taking a couple steps forward with his hands up. They needed Teresa, and Thomas knew that. "I've known you longer than you can remember. You're not gonna shoot her."

"You don't think so?" the boy asked with raised eyebrows, and Alex was a little scared that he was actually going to do it. Sure, she was not on the best terms with Teresa, but that did not mean that she wanted Thomas crying on her shoulder when he realized he killed the girl he loved.

Janson did not seem convinced. He just gestured for Thomas to carry on. "Okay. Go on then. shoot her. Prove me wrong. shoot her."

Then, all of a sudden, Teresa pushed Thomas backward to where Alex was standing in the hallway and slammed her hand down on a red button. Sirens started going off, and a door slammed close, separating the two from the rest of them. The WICKED guards tried to shoot at the glass, but it seemed to be bullet proof. Thomas nodded at Teresa and started walking away while Alex took off her helmet and stuck her tongue out at Janson.

They walked down the hallway, getting weird looks from almost everyone as they passed. For some reason, no one seemed to recognize them, and if they did, they did not do anything about it. Well, that was until guards started sprinting toward them. They kept going down the hallway, this time at a faster speed, every once in a while turning to shoot a guard. Alex all of a sudden realized that Thomas was not right behind her anymore and turned to see him staring at something in a hallway they just passed. He pulled out his gun, and she went up to him to see him pointing it directly at Ava Paige. She saw something in the corner of her eye, and her eyes widened.

"Thomas! No!" she yelled, and she grabbed him and dragged him the other way just as Janson shot at him. The bullet hit the wall as they ran.

"Minho? Minho!" Thomas yelled, waiting for someone to yell in response or something. He looked around for any sign that would tell them where he could be. "Minho! Minho, where are you?"

More guards sprinted down the hallway toward them, and Alex turned to Thomas, knowing that she had to help him in any way she could. She yelled, "Shit! You find him! I'll hold them off."

"Be careful," he responded, and she nodded as he sprinted off down the hallway. She turned back to the guards and pointed her gun at them. She fired a few shots, electrocuting about four of them.

When she pulled the trigger the fifth time, the gun just clicked and nothing came out. She kept pulling it, but the same thing kept happening, so she decided to pull a Thomas and just threw the gun at the guards. "Shit."

She turned on her heel and ran through the halls until she reached a stairwell. The soldiers were still behind her, so she decided to go down and pray that it did not lead to a dead end because she would be screwed. Once she reached the bottom of the stairs, she burst through a door at the end of them to see that she was in the garage. She breathed out a sigh of relief when she realized that she would be able to get out and maybe to the bus.

She froze in her tracks when she saw another guard standing in front of her. She looked back to see about five of them coming up behind her, and she was about to just accept her fate when the man in front of her shot all five of the ones behind her, causing them to fall to the floor and twitch. She furrowed her eyebrows, so very confused until the person removed their mask.

Gally.

"Oh, thank God," she breathed out in relief, running a hand through her hair until she realized something was missing from the boy's side. "Wait, where's Newt?"

"With Brenda and the serum. She's gonna give it to him as soon as they get back to the Berg, sooner if he needs it," he assured her, noticing her face drop when she noticed the absence of the blonde boy. She was terrified that something had happened to him while they were gone.

She nodded, and they both furrowed their eyebrows when they saw guards running in a different direction. They ducked behind a car and listened. One yelled, "Thomas was spotted outside sector 5." Gally and Alex turned to each other.

"Let's go," Gally sighed, and they pulled on their masks and joined the group of guards as they ran.

They followed them outside and over to a pool of water that Thomas and Minho were climbing out of. Alex's jaw dropped when she noticed the broken glass everywhere, and she looked up to see a broken window at least twelve stories above them. No way they jumped. She, deciding to do some method acting, yelled, "You two, don't move."

"Oh, you gotta be kidding me," Thomas breathed out since they had just jumped out of a window to escape only to be caught once again.

"Take it easy. Uh-uh-uh! Don't even think about it," said Gally as they all pointed their guns at the two. Alex could not help but grin at the sight of Minho, though. Luckily, she had her mask on. "Get on your knees with your hands in the air."

Then, at the same, Gally and Alex turned and shot the rest of the guards. Thomas and Minho looked so confused as they climbed over a short wall separating them and pulled off their masks. Thomas breathed out a sigh of relief, but Minho looked so terrified and confused. "Gally?"

"Minho," he greeted before glancing up at the window they broke when they jumped out of it. "You guys are nuts."

"I'll explain later," Thomas informed the boy next to him who could not move because he was so shocked. Alex kind of forgot about the fact that he did not know that Gally was alive. If she had, she probably would have imagined what his face would look like and laughed about it.

She took three big steps and wrapped her arms around the boy, and, despite how in shock he was, he embraced her as well. She whispered to him, "You're here."

"Yeah, I'm here," he confirmed, focusing more on her than Gally. God, she missed him, and he missed her. The thought of seeing them again was the only thing that got him through everything. "I'm right here."
