CHAPTER FORTY-TWO:
RENESMEE CULLEN

JACOB SAT THERE, HUGGING Bella close to him so as to warm her up. Echo was increasingly growing worried. She realized that every time she would try to heal Bella, she would grow weak and need to feed before she did it again. Echo pressed her fist gently against her mouth as she looked at Bella, she looked like she was going to be sick again. Echo so desperately wanted to take the pain away from her little sister, and it was physically hurting her that she couldn't do so.

"We need to find a way to get some food into her system." Echo told the Cullen's, worry evident in her voice.

"If I could only see the fetus." Alice mumbled.

"The baby." Rosalie corrected.

"Maybe I could figure out what it wants." Alice finished, ignoring Rosalie.

Edward looked over at Jacob before saying, "I think you might be right. Jacob just had an idea."

"It wasn't an idea. It was a snide comment." Jacob stated making Echo roll her eyes.

"What were you thinking?" Carlisle asked.

"That it's probably just looking for someone to sink its teeth into." Jacob stated. Echo glanced over at Carlisle, the two sharing a look.

"He's thirsty." Bella stated.

"I know the feeling." Emmett mumbled.

"If it's craving, it's not gonna want animal blood." Edward shook his head.

"I have some O negative laid aside for Bella." Carlisle stated before leaving the room to go get it. Echo quickly followed after him. She grabbed a Styrofoam cup as Carlisle joined her in the kitchen. He looked at the girl before telling her, "Hold your breath." She nodded her head and watched as he poured the blood into a cup. Echo grabbed a straw and placed it in the cup before walking over to Bella and handing it to her. When she was sure the girl had a hold on it, she let go and walked back over to Carlisle so that she wouldn't have to look at the tempting liquid.

"Wait! Wait! Wait! You're gonna make her drink that?" Jacob asked, mainly looking at Echo as he spoke. She went to open her mouth to say something, but Carlisle quickly beat her to it.

"It's the fastest way to test the theory."

"Only if you're comfortable with it." Echo softly said to her.

"I'll try anything." Bella nodded.

"I think I'm gonna be sick." Jacob muttered as Bella started to drink it.

"It tastes. . .good." Bella stated. Echo closed her eyes in relief. Bella drinks more of the blood and hums in delight. Carlisle walked over to her, placing his fingers onto her wrist so that he could check her pulse.

"Your pulse is already getting stronger." Carlisle told the girl.

"It's working." Echo smiled. "Oh, also, dad called. He said when you feel like it to call him back so that he knows you're okay." Bella nodded her head in response.

As Bella talked to Charlie on the phone, Echo stood in the kitchen with her head in her hands. The stress was giving her a migraine. Carlisle walked into the room and removed Echo's hands from her head, placing his own hands to her head and massaging the back of her neck. He kisses the top of Echo's head before placing a hand under her chin so that she would look at him.

"Better?"

She nodded. "A little." She gave the doctor a quick kiss on the lips before leaning into his chest. She couldn't wait for all of this to be over.

"So that's the last of it?" Jacob asked, referring to the very few blood bags that Carlisle had left for the girl. He nodded his head.

"Bella could deliver as early as tomorrow. If she's going to have any chance at all she'll need more blood."

"And you need to feed." Echo told him. "You have to be at your strongest for her. We need to go tonight."

"Carlisle, you're the enemy now. Sam won't hesitate, you will be slaughtered." Jacob warned him.

"Emmett will come with us." Echo told the boy.

"That won't be enough." Jacob shook his head.

"We have no choice, Jacob. If there's anything we can do to save her, we have to try." Echo quickly said, Carlisle nodding his head in agreement.

"You'd risk your lives for her?" Jacob asked.

"Of course we would. Bella's a part of our family now." Carlisle told the boy.

"And, she's my biological family." Echo stated.

"Yeah, I can see that. This really is a family. As strong as the one I was born into. I know what I have to do." Jacob stated before gently getting up and then walking out of the door. When it was time, the three left and went to get more blood for Bella as well as feed themselves. And when everything started to go downhill back at the Cullen's house hold, everyone was glad that Echo wasn't there. For she would have definitely attacked Bella due to all the blood. Carlisle's phone rang and he stopped to answer it. Alice was frantically speaking on the other end and when Carlisle said the placenta must've detached, Echo sped off.

She beat the others to the house by a few minutes. Her sister was dying and she wasn't about to let that happen. She ran into the home and a horrified look fell on her face when she saw Bella laying there.

"What the hell happened! I left you dumbasses here for two seconds!" Echo shouted. She went to go into the room, but a hand grabbed her. She turned her head to see Jasper standing there. He shook his head slightly at the girl, the two sharing an unspoken message. He quickly led Echo into the room away from her sister only to see Rosalie standing there with a baby in her arms. "Is that-?"

Rosalie smiled and nodded her head. "Echo, meet your niece, Renesmee." When Rosalie got closer, Echo took a precautious step back. Alice placed a hand on the woman's shoulder.

"It's okay, Echo. You're not going to hurt her."

Echo looked over at Alice who sent her a reassuring nod. She slowly walked up to Rosalie who gave the girl a reassuring smile. Gently, the girl handed Echo her niece. Echo looked down at her and a smile spred across her face. She had Bella's eyes. A gasp escaped her lips when the baby's hand was placed on her cheek. Echo watched as scene's flashed before her eyes, and in a way it was showing Echo what she had missed when she was gone. When Rensemee dropped her hand, Echo smiled down at the baby girl before looking at Rosalie.

"What was that?"

"Her first memory." Rosalie answered the girl. Echo smiled before looking back down at her little niece. Echo took her free hand and held it towards the girl, she watched as Renesmee grabbed hold of her finger and a wide smile spread across her face.

"Hey sweetheart." Echo whispered. The little girl smiled up slightly at her aunt and Echo's smile only grew. At the sound of a wolves howl, Echo tensed. She gently handed Renesmee back to Rosalie before making her way outside of the home, the other Cullens, besides Rosalie, following her.

"We're outnumbered." Jasper stated, looking at the several wolves.

"By a lot." Alice agreed.

"I won't let them hurt my family." Edward stated, looking at Echo as he joined her side. The two shared a silent understanding that only they would ever understand.

"Sam," Echo started, grabbing the leaders attention. "Please. Don't do this. We don't want to hurt you." He looked at the girl, let out a soft growl. Echo looked over at Edward.

"He says he's sorry." Edward informed.

"Let's get this over with then, shall we?" Echo mumbled and then the wolves attacked. The vampires started to fight them off. Echo, of course, was forced to fight with Sam. She looked him in the eyes as she spoke. "Please, Sam." He dipped his head slightly at the girl as if apologizing once more before he attacked her. Echo quickly grabbed him and slammed him into a tree. The wolf scrambled back up and charged at her. His jaw opened as if to bite her, but Echo quickly grabbed onto his jaws. Her fist tightened and a whimper was heard from him before she picked him up by the mouth and chucked him as far as she could.

Just as she turned, a wolf barreled into her, slamming her into a tree harshly. The crack of the tree could be heard and she growled at the wolf before putting her foot up and kicking him hard in the chest. For a quick second, Echo looked around and noticed that they were losing. And then suddenly, Jake appeared in his wolf form standing his ground. Echo got up and made her way over to Carlisle who immediately grabbed her hand and kissed her on the top of the head. Echo furrowed her eyebrows as Jake stood there, but it looked like he was talking to them. Echo looked over at Edward who's eyes were wide with shock.

"Jacob imprinted. They can't hurt her. Whoever a wolf imprints on can't be harmed. It's their most absolute law." Edward stated. The wolves all started to back up and Echo's jaw clenched. He really imprinted on her newborn niece? When Jacob turned back to normal Echo let go of Carlisle's and walked towards Jacob.

"Echo." Carlisle warned. Echo stood in front of Jacob and gave him a sweet smile before reeling her fist back and punching him in the face, sending him flying. The vampires all looked at the girl with wide eyes except for Edward who was holding a smirk on his features.

"That's what you get for imprinting on my niece." Echo snarled at him before turning around and entering the Cullen household. Echo walked over to her sister and a frown fell on her lips.

"She shouldn't be this still."Edward stated as he appeared beside of Echo, looking down at his wife.

"It's the morphine." Carlisle told him.

"Maybe it's not too late." Echo softly smiled at the boys words.

"No, Edward. Listen to her heart." And so they did.

A day passed and Echo watched as her sister started to heal, a smile fell on her face. She grabbed Edward and the two stood there for a moment before Echo decided to leave the room. And just as she did, Bella opened her eyes, to reveal blood red instead of chocolate brown.
