-ᴀᴛʜᴇɴ ʙʟᴀᴄᴋᴛʏᴅᴇ hated his family name and the shame that came with it, being from a family that was famously affiliated with the Circle meant that he was always on the Clave's radar and could hardly live a secretive, secluded life as he had always wanted. Instead, he was forced to work ten times harder than every other Shadowhunter to earn their respect or even be considered part of the generation, but he knew that is was hopeless.

Yet the only one who even looked at him nicely was a Warlock, the species that his parents had tried desperately to cure and experimented on violently. Magnus assured him that he couldn't pick who his parents are, but that didn't stop the immense guilt that he felt for his parent's actions.

It only got worse when Frank and Zara Blacktyde show up along with Valentine to claim their son as part of their group to radicalise Downworlder experimentation and cleansing. With the help of Clarissa Fray, Athen finally believes that his parents being from the Circle doesn't define him and that he shouldn't let people treat him like they do; giving him the courage to make a move of the High Warlock of Brooklyn.

σиє. Athen's parents are just pure evil, like no joke. They would experiment harshly on any Downworlder and even threaten Magnus' life many times to try and get their son. So when Athen joins Clary and Jace on their hunt to shop Valentine at the lake, he will kill both his parents.

тωσ. Magnus is assuring Athen that he can love who he wants, Athen believed that loving Magnus (because he is male and a warlock) would make people look at him differently.

тняєє. Athen does not get on with the Lightwoods before they find out that their parents were Circle members too, they treated him poorly and the only one who even looked his way was Clary because she knows how it feels.

fσυя. Athen will get taken to the boat at the same time Jace does because his parents try to brainwash him into joining them, this is very important because it is character-defining. His parents are played by Angelina Jolie and Brenton Thwaits, this is not to be changed because they fit the role.
