━━━ THE GROUP OF FOUR HAD SPLIT UP TO GO DO WHAT THEY NEEDED TO DO. Luckily for Allison and Stiles, they had Sawyer who had been able to help them find Lydia. The strawberry blonde had been perched in the library with Jackson, her hand scrawling across her notebook as she did her homework. Jackson had been sat next to her, one arm draped across the back of her chair while his other hand scrolled through his phone boredly as if he wanted to be anywhere else but next to Lydia or in the library. Judging by how Lydia and Jackson's relationship went . . . it was probably both.
"If we're doing a study group, why didn't we just stay in the library?" Lydia questioned, tearing her arm out of Sawyer's grip as he lead her out of the other exit of the library with Allison, Jackson and Stiles in tow. Just in time, too, as Sawyer had heard Isaac and Erica enter the other side just as they exited.
"Because we're meeting up with somebody else," Stiles answered quickly, patting her on the shoulder as he walked on her other side.
"Hmmm," Lydia hummed, clearly annoyed that she was the one that had to get up and move her spot where she'd been perfectly comfortable. "Well, why don't they just meet us in the library?"
"Do you always ask this many questions?" Sawyer complained, hitching the strap of his bag higher on his shoulder and moved Lydia faster down the hallway so they could get as far away from the library as possible. "Just know that we're going somewhere else and that's it. The library's boring anyways."
Thankfully, Lydia kept her mouth shut after that . . . until they made it to Stiles' Jeep and exited the parking lot. Not that anyone really answered her questions anyways and she only grew more confused when Stiles had pulled up in front of the McCall residence. Allison had mumbled a swift lie about Scott meeting them eventually after he finished up whatever he was doing at the high school and the group made their way into the house.
Stiles quickly shut the door once everyone was inside and pulled the latch over the lock, as if that would stop Derek, Isaac and Erica from breaking into the house with their wolf strength. He'd whirled around to see Sawyer's deadpan expression of using the lock when it would do no good anyway and Lydia's heavily confused expression when Stiles locked the door. "Uh . . . there's been a few break-ins around the neighborhood."
Sawyer exhaled heavily and rubbed his hands over his face, part of him wondering why the hell his heart raced for the teen boy before him. Out of all the boys Sawyer's heart could have chosen and it was Stiles. He'd dropped his hands from his face as Allison subtly jerked her head for Jackson to bring Lydia upstairs and away from the front door.
Jackson groaned to himself and turned to Lydia with an annoyed expression. "Lydia, follow me. I need to talk to you for a minute."
"Seriously? What is going on with everyone?" Lydia mumbled, turning on her heel to follow after Jackson towards the stairs that lead upstairs to the bedrooms.
Once the duo were away and out of earshot, Sawyer turned to Stiles and gave him a swift punch to his shoulder which elicited a sharp yelp from the Stilinski boy. "Could you be any more fucking awkward and weird?"
Stiles frowned and rubbed at the sore spot on his shoulder, the light from the sun slowly beginning to set behind him in the tiny rectangle window on the side of the McCall residence door. It almost brought a beautiful shine to Stiles' eyes as the light caught in the sides of his eyes and Sawyer had to stop himself from staring too long. "Ow! No need to use your wolf strength on me."
"Maybe it'll be strong enough to — " Sawyer cut himself off when his ears perked up at the sound of approaching feet and a familiar scent lingering in the air outside. Pushing Stiles away from the window, he pulled back the small curtain that covered the window back enough to peer outside and he tensed when he noticed Derek, Erica, Isaac and Boyd all stood across the street with their gazes fixated directly on the McCall house. "Um, you might wanna call Scott to hurry his little werewolf ass back here."
"What? Why?" Allison questioned, stepping closer to the Bowen boy as her eyes widened at the sight of Sawyer tensing.
"We've got company."
Lord only knew how long the trio were waiting for Scott to arrive back from the school. Surely, it should not have been taking the McCall boy this long to get back home as he could move fairly quickly thanks to his werewolf side. And yet . . . it had been what felt like hours without a single thing from Scott and the night sky had already fallen outside. Long shadows loomed up along the backs of the curtains that covered the windows and Derek, Isaac, Erica and Boyd all still mingled outside as if waiting for someone to step outside. Almost like like they were going to let the group to them and not the other way around.
Sawyer squeezed his eyes shut and tugged his hands through his hair, elbows resting on his knees from where he was sat on the second step from the bottom that lead up to the second floor. He had half a mind to go out there and take all of them on by himself and get them to go away. No way they were going to get to Lydia, not with Sawyer stood here. There had to be something they could do to save Lydia and Sawyer was willing to go with Scott and save the Martin girl. Regardless of how annoying he sometimes found the strawberry blonde to be. It didn't mean he wanted Derek to kill her.
"What are you doing?" Stiles' voice snapped Sawyer out of his thoughts, causing the Bowen boy's head to snap up and look over in Allison and Stiles' direction by the front door. The Stilinski boy's eyebrows were furrowed in clear confusion while Allison gripped her automatic bow in hand and her phone in the other.
"I think — I think I have to call my dad," Allison sighed, glancing up from her phone where her thumb lingered over the call button on her father's contact.
Sawyer bolted up and shook his head frantically, eyes going wide as he lowered her hand before she could do anything. "No, you can't. If your dad comes here, then he'll know that you and Scott — "
"I know," Allison's voice cracked slightly and Sawyer could hear the way her heart hammered away in her chest. Her breathing was shaky as fear and another emotion that Sawyer couldn't quite pinpoint battled against each other in her chest. "But what are we supposed to do? They're not here to scare us, okay? They're here to kill Lydia."
Stiles bounced on the balls of his feet, peering out the window again to see that the four outside were still right where they were this whole time. His jaw ticked as his mind visibly raced and he glanced from the four wolves outside and over to Allison's bow that was still resting at her side in her hand. "Okay . . . I got an idea. Just shoot one of 'em."
Allison blinked and snapped her head over to Stiles with an incredulous look. Even Sawyer stared at Stiles as if he had sprouted a third head. "Are you serious?"
"We told Scott we could protect ourselves, right? If Sawyer goes out there, it's four against one and one of them is an alpha. There's no way he could take them all on by himself — "
" — Thanks for the confidence in my wolfitude, asshole!"
" — So let's just protect ourselves! Or at least give it a shot, right? Pun intended." Stiles concluded, ignoring Sawyer's offended comment over his speech. "Look, they don't think we're gonna fight, so if one of them gets hit, I guarantee they'll take off. So just shoot one of 'em!"
Allison peered out the window she stood in front of and swept her gaze across the four wolves outside, chewing on the inside of her lip. "Which one do I even hit?"
"Uh . . . Derek. You know, preferably in the head," Stiles whispered, nodding along to his own words and clearly agreeing with himself.
"Stiles, if Scott and I can catch an arrow, what makes you think Derek won't be able to when he's been doing this longer?" Sawyer quipped at the Stilinski boy and nudged him over, looking out the window to look at the wolves. However, this time when he looked something was definitely different as there were now three wolves and not four. "Whoa, whoa, whoa. Where the hell is Isaac?"
Before he allowed Allison and Stiles to get a word in, Sawyer whipped around as his ears perked up to a sound in the back of the house. Just as he faced the long hallway that lead to the kitchen where the back door was, Isaac appeared from the shadows and Sawyer let out a deep growl at the Lahey boy as the boy knocked Allison to side, sending her automatic bow sliding across the wooden floors.
Sawyer flicked out his claws and dug them into the back of Isaac's leather coat and flung him backwards before he could touch Stiles next. The mere thought alone of that happening sent an excessive amount of anger through Sawyer over his anchor being injured. Isaac's body smacked against the wooden floorboards as Allison and Stiles both scrambled up together and ran up to go warn Lydia and Jackson that someone was breaking into the house and they needed to hide. Sawyer smirked at Isaac when the boy pushed himself back to his feet and ducked underneath Isaac's slash.
A second growl was heard and Sawyer whipped around to see Scott who had finally returned back to the house, yellow eyes flashing at the sight of Isaac and Sawyer dueling it out. He joined in and threw Isaac across the foyer, sending him crashing into the wall in the living room. It sent him colliding with the floorboards hard and officially knocking him out when his head smacked the end of the fireplace.
Sawyer's eyes slowly flickered back to their normal color and he glanced to Scott with a small huff. "Nice of you to finally join us, Scotty."
"Yeah, yeah," Scott mumbled, walking over to Isaac and grunting as he lifted him up and threw him out the front door, followed by Erica who Allison not so gently dragged down the steps. She'd been paralyzed by what looked like the Kanima venom, as the clear goo coated around her hand and the arrow she still gripped in a tight grip.
Derek's jaw ticked as his eyes moved from his injured and paralyzed betas and over to the front porch where Sawyer, Stiles, Allison and Scott now stood together in a protective stance in front of the door. Just in case Derek or Boyd tried their luck next with trying to get Lydia who was God knew where. "I finally see why you keep refusing me, Scott. You're not an omega. You're already an alpha of your own pack. But you know you can't be."
"Wanna bet, pretty boy?" Sawyer growled, being pushed back by Scott when he tried to rush at Derek and show him just how much he could beat the alpha down. Sure, Derek might win out in the end because he was an alpha, but Sawyer never backed down from a fight or challenge. Which got him into trouble more often than not.
"I think we can hold you off until the cops get here," Scott retorted, referencing the police sirens that flared up in the distance, dragging closer and closer.
The sound of hissing from above cut off whatever threat Derek would have had for the group. Stiles, Scott, Sawyer and Allison all stumbled down from the porch step and glanced up with wide eyes to see the Kanima perched up on the roof. Its yellow eyes snapped over to the group that stood in the middle of the street, jaws all basically brushing the floor at the sight of its fully scaled form, its tail whipping this way and that like a lasso. It let out another loud hiss before it escaped off the roof and into the darkness of the night.
Heels against the foyer alerted everyone over to the front door where Lydia stormed out, cellphone gripped into her hand as her green eyes were fierce with both fear and annoyance. "Would someone please tell me what the hell is going on here?"
Sawyer gulped audibly as Lydia stood before them, not a single scale in sight or as if she'd just been morphed back into a teenage girl from a slimy, reptilian like creature. Hell, Sawyer didn't even think she could have made it back to the front as fast as she did had she morphed back and walked out. Which only lead the group to realize that the Kanima wasn't Lydia after all.
"It's Jackson."
