JORDYN WALKED into the elevator with her fellow interns and went over to the back of the small moving contraption. she stood next to alex, who was standing next to lexie before the elevator had opened. were they flirting? if they were good for them. they deserve each other. there's no reason for them not to be togeth-

"hey. who are they talking about?" alex asked interrupting jordyn's daydreaming. the interns had been talking about o'malley and how good of an intern he is.

"george o'malley" jordyn whispered making alex scoff.

"seriously? don't they know that he-" and before alex could finish a sentence both jordyn and lexie put a finger on their lips to shush him. "you chicks are crazy"

"we're not crazy. we're just good friends" lexie answered as the elevator doors opened.

"unlike you" jordyn mumble while stepping out and moving around doctor stevens, her least favorite of the first-year residents. the interns rushed to the locker rooms to get changed into their outfits.

โ€”โ€”

the interns stood against one of the many hospital walls as doctor yang and doctor grey had one of their many daily gossiping sessions. for some reason, doctor yang looked sadder than usual. probably something to do with her ex-fiancรฉ. it made the most sense. lexie was staring at the ceiling while tapping her finger. better now then never

"sooooo" jordyn built up catching the attention of her friend. she slipped her hands into her white jacket pocket.

"what?" questioned lexie, confused. she was obviously listening in to doctor yang and doctor grey's conversation.

"what is going on with you and doctor karev?" jordyn said wiggling her eyebrows. who knew faking happiness was this difficult.

"oh, alex? nothing...really...i mean he's cute and all but...nothing...why you ask?" lexie answered awkwardly, not able to make eye contact.

"just asking" jordyn said while shrugging as they now were following doctor yang god knows where. so lexie was into him.

"doctor yang? i need doctor long over here, now" doctor bailey hollered over, signaling me to follow her.

"be my guest. we're not doing anything right now....sadly..." doctor yang mumbled while brushing past her intern.

"doctor karev needs you in the clinic" she simply muttered turning away.

"you do know i'm not his intern" jordyn rebutted, trying to keep up the pace with her. for someone with short legs she walked incredibly fast.

"don't care. he requested you" she shouted while continuing to walk away. just great. another day with karev. what could possibly happen?

โ€”โ€”

alex stood to the side of the clinic, his foot tapping impatiently on the tile. he kept clicking his blue pen over and over again that he always kept in his jacket pocket. he looked annoyed. or bored. jordyn couldn't exactly tell.

"doctor bailey said you requested me?" jordyn asked, trying to sound not exhausted. "i mean, i don't why you didn't just page me but-"

"i didn't request you" alex muttered locking eyes with doctor bailey, who stood at the welcome center desk in the middle of the clinic. favor she mouthed while putting on a fake smile.

"do you want me to go back to doctor yang? or run charts or somethi-"

"no you can stay here...i have this new intern who's triple your age. he smells like arthritis cream and i'm pretty sure that his hip is busted. he thinks that kid in curtain five is on drugs, even though physically he is showing no signs other than having an overbearing mom" alex laughed while pointing his finger to curtain five. "he seems like a normal fourteen-year-old"

"with a shitty mom and an intern that listens to everyone but the patient" jordyn finished peeking at the kid's binder that was on top of the table beside them.

"and he's old so it makes me feel crappy to have to yell at him" alex said peeking at the binder too, even though he had already read it.

"but you love yelling at interns. at least that's what all your interns say" jordyn reminded him. all of karev's interns were always talking about how much of an ass he was to them. but jordyn thought alex is just simply an ass to everyone so she didn't bother adding her opinion.

"i mean i do but that's because half of the time they're in their early twenties. not early sixties. makes me feel like they're...like children or something " alex attempted his very hardest to not sound like a dick.

"children that are some of the smartest people in seattle... i don't know alex, just treat him like any other intern then" jordyn said snapping the binder shut in alex's face and shoving it into his hands.

"i don't treat you like any other intern" alex attempted to redeem himself, even putting on his signature karev sideways smirk. jordyn tried very hard to swallow down her small blush but it was rather hard. so she simply rolled her eyes as someone pushed in between the two of them. were we that close? "i have to go and get the toxicology report from the pit. come if you want"

"does it look like i have anything better to do" jordyn mumbled trailing behind doctor karev. all was back to normalcy.

__

doctor karev and doctor long walked around moping doctor yang who was practically lying on a counter. that was until doctor grey traded her a hemiglossectomy surgery. her posture straightened and her face seemed over pleased. matching smirks were on doctor karev and doctor long's face as they pulled out the toxicology report. and as doctor grey walked away from her friend, it was hard for jordyn to stifle her laughs.

"i saw the whole thing yang, you can stop pretending" alex warned while writing random things down on his clipboard. their relationship was rather interesting to jordyn. she wondered if they'd been in a relationship previously. if doctor karev really does get around as much as people say he does.

"oh I'm not pretending. i'm sad. i'm very sad. me so sad" doctor yang said, using a baby voice. jordyn couldn't hold in her laughter any longer letting tons of giggles come out.

"sorry i laugh at terrible times" jordyn said apologizing and immediately stopping her fun.

"you're fine long. hey, maybe i should try it, see if grey will take my new intern" alex said, his eyes still not leaving his clipboard.

"one? no, i'd like her back for my hemiglossectomy surgery thank you. she's the best intern we've got and i'd like her to stay with the best first-year resident. and no. hey, forget it. sad is mine. go find your own pretend emotion. let's go one!" cristina announced jumping off of the counter.

"i wasn't meaning doctor long" shouted alex as doctor yang and doctor long furthered themselves from him in the hall.

"thanks for what you said about me. to doctor karev. i real-"

"don't thank me for anything. i like you because you know when to stick up for yourself and you know when to shut up. you're also pretty funny, but only sometimes. i want to see how you do in surgery...you're scrubbing in" doctor yang said, every word sounding somewhat emotionless, even if it was maybe supposed to.

"oh, wow...uh, thank y-"

"i said no thank yous!" doctor yang interrupted continuing to walk. jordyn's first scrub in...on her third week. a dream.

โ€”โ€”

"o'malley!" shouted jordyn to her friend down the hall. he seemed to be pacing and looked overly stressed. this was nothing new for a surgeon but jordyn was sure it wasn't surgeries that were on his mind. the two locked eyes. "i'm scrubbing in with doctor yang on a hemiglossectomy surgery!" squealed jordyn a bright smile spread on her face. it was so contagious that even stressed george cracked a smile.

"that's great. good for you jordyn...." george said trying his hardest to looks normal. or whatever normal was for him.

"everything alright? you looked like you just ran over a cat or something" lightly chuckled jordyn, trying to make light of whatever situation george was going threw. "you know you can always talk-" and in one simple movement george pulled jordyn into and on-call room and locked the door. "okay, you're starting to scare the shit out of me" jordyn said honestly while sitting on one of the bed, checking for any sticky liquids while doing so. george sat dirextly next to her, their thighs practically touching.

"i cheated on my wife, with izzie" he said quickly, as if he had been holding it in for a while. he probably had. no wonder jordyn wasn't fond of her. "and i'm in love with izzie. but i haven't told callie....anything" jordyn tried her best to look supportive but deep inside it was hard for her to side with george. taylor's parents were divorced and jordyn would always hear about them fighting over her little brother. but george hasn't even told doctor torres yet. "i haven't told anyone yet...am i a bad person?" he asked honestly, locking eyes with jordyn for the first time in the conversation.

"no george. you're not. we all make mistakes. and if you are happier with izzie, then even though it might take callie a while to get used to it, she'll be happy for you. and then you'll both move on. you're just a beautiful person that made a beautiful mistake...if that makes sense" jordyn finished lightly comforting him by placing her hand on top of his. it had been slightly shaking before.

"plenty...thanks j. oh and don't tell anyone yet, please" george this time made a real smile, maybe at the silly nickname, or the fact that he was having a sentimental moment with the person who thought he was the gerber baby for a while.

"you're welcome g" jordyn simply replied, letting george hug her before they went off to her first surgery.

โ€”โ€”

jordyn was hunched over the women's abdomen area, following doctor yang's exact instructions over what to do for this surgery. apparently it had never been done before in this hospital. jordyn hoped the women would have a quick recovery. she didn't know what she would do if her first surgery was a failure.

"the graft's a perfect fit" doctor sloan muttered while checking the tongue of his patient. jordyn hadn't had much interaction with doctor sloan, and all she knew about him was that he was an asshole to interns and has hooked up with three fourths of the nurses. they were even making their own club together 'nurses against marks sloan'. quite pathetic if you asked jordyn. even though she hadn't had any conversation with him, she'd probably hook up with him. what! he's mark fucking sloan.

"yeah. it's got good vascularization" the chief replied back, doing a similar thing to what doctor sloan was doing.

"and at this rate, you may actually get to go on that date with adele" mark commented. apparently the chief and his wife almost divorced, but they were able to make the marriage work. that's just what jordyn heard though.

"yeah, i better. can't very well have her take me back if i cancel out first date" defended the chief as a smile could be seen threw his surgery mask.

"where you taking her chief?" george butted. it was hard for jordyn to remember the fact that he wasn't a first year intern like everyone else in their intern group. he had relationships with these people around him.

"oh, there's a nice little chinese restaurant we like to go to" the chief answered, obviously distracted.

"how romantic" jordyn said, a small smile under her mask. no one seemed to comment though.

"hmmm" mumbled the chief staring at the opened flesh his hands freezing.

"what happens next?" asked cristina. jordyn thought doctor yang knew everything. apparently she was wrong.

"ummm...doctor sloan, i don't-"

"i know." doctor sloan interrupted the chief putting his scalpel and tongs down. they both looked perplexed.

"is everything okay?" asked george, who obviously was in the same boat as jordyn, confused out of their minds.

"uh...we're not sure" the chief said, clearing his throat in the progress and bringing one of the microscopes down from the ceiling.

"what does that mean?" asked jordyn, more so towards doctor yang so that doctor sloan couldn't have the chance to yell at her.

"it means we've never done this before" answered mark, making direct contact with jordyn for the first time ever. eyes began to look around as confusion and nervous rates rose in the room.

"what about if we coapt the lingual nerve underneath here?" the chief suggested pointing towards the area.

"no, we'd end up losing the vascular supply" mark muttered shutting down the chiefs idea.

"the graft might not work at all" chief came to the conclusion locking eyes with doctor sloan. "she likes to talk, sloan. she likes to talk a lot"

"we need an extra set of hands" mark suggested, trying to turn to a more positive corner. "someone who knows nerves".

"o'malley, get doctor sheperd" the chief said turning to the him. too bad he had to leave.

"yes, sir" he complied while quickly exiting the OR.

โ€”โ€”

as doctor yang and i stood there overlooking abdomen issues, what we didn't expect was to see alex karev practically flying threw the OR surgical mask in hand. his eyes locked with jordyn's with passionate fear raging threw them, a new face for alex, before turning towards a mid-surgery doctor sheperd.

"doctor sheperd" alex pleaded, practically panting at the door.

"i'm a little busy right now making medical history, karev" doctor sheperd replied not letting his eyes come off of the brain.

"hunter chapman's brain is herniating" alex cut him off, everyone's eyes now on him, including jordyn's.

"the druggie" mumbled jordyn. her mind thought of the poor teenage boy with his overbearing mother practically hovering over him. he didn't deserve this at all.

"his right pupil just blew" alex finished still looking for an answer for what to do.

"okay, you need to do exactly what i say, or that kid's gonna be dead in the next minutes. can you do that?" derek asked, his eyes still not leaving the woman's brain.

"yes, sir" alex obediently responded. i've never seen him respect someone like this.

"okay, get the biggest needle you can find..."

โ€”โ€”

jordyn did it. she scrubbed in on her first surgery. and wow was it an experience. she could still feel the adrenaline going threw her veins as a she crashed onto the right on-call room bed. she could fall asleep from exhaustion at any moment she wanted. too bad she wasn't on over night. she was completely alone until she heard the on-call room door open and another person belly flop theirselves onto the bed beside jordyn.

"karev" jordyn mumbled, as if feeling his presence.

"long" he mumbled in response turning around so that he lay on his back like jordyn did.

"i scrubbed in on my first surgery" jordyn said, practically awestricken of herself. instead it made her seem as if she was doing a dick measuring contest.

"i saved a person's life from a misdiagnosis i made" alex said, as if he didn't believe the words he was saying "you're news is more positive though" alex said brushing the situation

"oh no it's fine. we do work in a hospital. no one can stay too positive for too long" jordyn said trying her best to do the sideways karev smirk.

"what're you doing" alex said with a facial expression of pure and utter disgust and a little bit of confusion.

"the karev smirk. does it look that bad?" jordyn questioned letting the failure of a facial expression fall from her face.

"awful. you have to really be natural with it. let your inner douche bag and charm really come out" alex said exaggerating with his hand.

"i'll try later when i'm not as exhausted" jordyn yawned realizing how long it had been since she had got a nice full eight hours of uninterrupted sleep.

"i hate that norman intern...like he's gonna see you guys change in the locker room and he's around 58. that's weird!"
alex said as if thinking aloud. jordyn didn't mind him that much. he seemed sweet even if he was old. he was an intern just like her. and interns wether they liked it or not had to stick together.

"you're too judgemental karev" jordyn said getting out of the bed and reaching over to the coat rack to retrieve her white doctors coat that she had stripped off before.

"oh don't call me judgmental miss i know everything about everyone" alex spat obviously not liking the critiques.

"oh i do not" jordyn said playing with her hair that wasn't in a ponytail. god how she hated it down. she wished she had a hair tie to put it up.

"i know you know a hell of a lot" alex said knowing he wasn't lying. jordyn stopped playing with her hair and instead put her hands in her pockets.

"okay that's not wrong...i'm just a nosy person. i cant help it!" jordyn said shrugging.

"well maybe you should stick to yourself more" alex said getting out of the bed as if he was leaving. he was really confusing.

"i'm sorry do you have a problem with me alex?" jordyn asked now putting crossing her arms across her chest.

"no...maybe...i don't know alright!" alex voice got louder, practically at a screaming level.

"is there something you need to tell me or are you going to be an asshole to me instead. maybe that's what you need to work on. expressing your emotions properly" jordyn said now realizing they were in an insult battle. when she expected alex to insult back he took a deep breathe and looked at the floor.

"i fell in love with a patient. she lost her memory...and then she found it. and now she's happy with her husband and her child...and i'm not apart of her life. and i want to be...i so want to be...but it's never gonna happen. why the hell am i saying this to an intern" alex said turning around as if realizing his mistake in saying those words.

"because i'm all that you have left" jordyn said innocently trying to comfort the man.

"i swore to myself i wouldn't fall in love again. at first it was izzie and then she found the dead guy. then it was ava or rebecca or whatever the hell her name is now. and now i'm afraid to have any real interaction if it could mean i...i don't know" alex said finally making eye contact.

"start having feelings" jordyn finished for him.

"yeah...i guess. i shouldn't be saying this to you" he said while exiting the on-call room and slamming the door behind him. there was obvious regret dancing in his eyes.

"alex!" jordyn screamed helplessly across the hospital hall, following like a lost puppy.

"what" alex said. you could see the hurt in him. he definitely needed to be alone.

"thanks for telling me" jordyn said with a tiny smile

"whatever"he muttered turning around making jordyn do the same. her shift was finally over. and just when she thought this was all over she heard a "hey jordy". jordyn simply turned around, awaiting the man's statement "like the hair" jordyn simply smirked and walked away now thankful that she didn't have a hair tie.

"see, that's the smirk!"

โ€”โ€”

it was time for another end of the day intern rundown in the locker room.

"i finally had a conversation about my mom with my sister" lexie said rather optimistically. "but it was only after i screwed up my first emergency patient. she probably only pitied me...but hey, at least i know what profession i'm not choosing" lexie said a small smile on her lips.

"i scrubbed in on my first surgery" now proud knowing it was a dick measuring contest. she made sure not to mention any of the alex stuff.

"holy crap, really?" lexie said awestruck. jordyn enjoyed being more superior then her co-workers for a minute.

"and she didn't screw up" george supported. oh, how jordyn loved him.

"and how bout you mr. best intern. watcha up to" lexie said turning the attention to george.

"i have to go to a funeral and break up with my wife" george responded while exiting the locker room.

"well he won" jordyn smirked

โ€”โ€”

all of the interns stood in the elevator practically in the same spots as they had in morning. which meant that jordyn was standing next to alex, who clearly was checking out lexie. whatever. if that's her type then good for her.

"you got to reattach a woman's tongue" said one of the female interns to george, practically swooning at her words.

"oh, i was there. jordyn's the one who scrubbed in. i didn't actually do any reattaching" george tried to stand up for jordyn, the person who actually scrubbed in and did things, but no one really gave two craps.

"yeah, but still, all she did was clean. she did no real surgery. you're the intern the chief wanted on that case" jordyn was about to stand up for herself in front of this sleazy intern before alex said the one thing neither lexie or jordyn wanted him to say.

"he's a repeater" poor lexie tried to stop him but no words seemed to come out. and jordyn didn't wish to speak to alex after today's events.

"what?" questioned an intern. we're they really this oblivious.

"your big hero here, he was an intern last year. that's why he, uh, knows some of this stuff. he's already been through it. but if you want to learn from someone-really, really learn-go to a resident, not this dude" alex said finishing off with a karev smirk. jordyn couldn't tell if he revealed george's secret just to be a dick, or because he hated george, or because just maybe he wanted to protect her, and didn't like how they were underestimating her and instead putting the spotlight onto george. whatever reason she didn't care. she was angry. rage was practically seeping through her body. how dare he embarrass her friend like that. what did george ever do to him? probably nothing, just like the rest of the world.

"uh, he's right. if you want to emulate someone, it's definitely not me. i'm not that guy" the elevator bell rung just as george stopped speaking. it was hard for jordyn to not feel bad for the guy. george was always so selfless and kind. he didn't deserve this. he should've passed that test. he really should've. george walked out of the elevator without looking back. the new old intern norman turned around as if to speak to alex. bad move my guy.

"what the hell are you looking at?" alex spat. jordyn was use to the residents being rude. hell, doctor yang doesn't even bother remembering the names of her interns. but jordyn wasn't going to look at him. she refused to give alex that satisfaction. she didn't know why she ever felt like she had feeling for him. but certainly didn't have any now. alex simply scoffed in her face. "interns" he said towards jordyn before looking over to lexie and smirking at her.

jordyn long hated alex karev. and she wasn't going to let him off the hook. and she also wasn't going to try and be friends with him. she was going to stick with her interns. because they needed her. even if they didn't realize it yet. george needed her. lexie needed her. and jordyn definitely needed them.

words: 4065
A/N: you really thought jordyn and alex would get together that quickly? welcome to slow burn city bitch. also, jordyn, lexie, and george need a group nickname asap. give me one readers. (and aren't they such cute friends already aw we stan supportive interns).
