YASSSSSSS

alina intently stared at the inside of her closet, mentally at war with herself, trying to figure out what to wear tonight. she and her best friends, julia and sofia, were going out to a frat party at their university. it was the last party of the 2024 year and the night after finals. she was certain that whatever fraternity she'd be at tonight would go all out to celebrate, so she wanted to look good.

she finally settled on wearing a low-cut floral halter top and a black mini skirt. she took the clothes from her closet and snuck into the bathroom in her apartment that she shared with her older brother, so she could change.

ever since she started college, alina has been living with samir just because it was cheaper and more practical for her than dorming. but as much as she loves her brother, he can be a bit overprotective — for a lack of a better word.

which is why after putting on her outfit for the party, she put her hoodie and sweatpants on right over it. if samir saw her outfit and knew where she was going, she wouldn't be coming back alive.

alina scurried back to her bedroom. she had already done her hair and makeup and all she needed to do was successfully leave the apartment without alarming her brother. she grabbed her purse and a pair of her old sneakers and walked down the stairs.

her neighbors were downstairs in the living room with samir, so hopefully it would be easier for her to leave since he's distracted. she knew there was no way for her to sneak out and not get caught, so she decided to use julia's excuse.

"hey, sam, i'm going out with jules and sofia. just wanted to let you know." alina announced, looking through her bag to make sure she had everything she needed.

samir and his friends, matt, chris, and nick, all looked at her. samir nodded, "okay." but before alina could take another step, his eyebrows furrowed, "wait, why are you guys going out at 10 pm?"

"i'm just going to their dorm. they said they wanted to do a sleepover."

samir exchanged glances with the triplets. "why can't they just come up here for a sleepover?"

"uh, there's some new spots on campus they wanna show me while i'm there." alina lied straight to her teeth. she knew that his questions were just for her safety, but sometimes she wished she could just leave the house without feeling like she's being interrogated.

her brother shrugged and let her go out anyway. it was suspicious that she was going to be out on her school campus late, but if she was with her friends, it was fine. samir may be over protective, but he wasn't a dick purposely looking to deprive his sister of fun. "okay, have fun with them and be careful out there. don't get caught by the RA!"

"i know," she told him, putting her shoes on by the front door. before leaving she waved at everyone, "bye, guys!"

the four guys all waved back. the triplets spoke over each other, telling her bye and wishing her fun with her friends. they actually knew that alina would be going out to a party. she's done this before, and they all follow her spam account that her brother doesn't. they were probably going to wake up and see a new post of her at the party the next day. none of them have said anything to samir though. it just wasn't their place.

alina practically dashed down to the front of her building where julia and sofia were waiting for her in julia's car. "hey." she smiled, getting in the car.

julia started the vehicle and greeted her with sofia as alina took off her sweater and sweatpants in the seat. "ready?" julia asked. alina hummed and nodded as she put on her seatbelt on.

"yep."

alina was three red solo cups in. her eardrums practically bursted as music loudly permeated throughout one of USC's frat houses. the girls hadn't left each other's sides all night — as they usually do at parties. the three were outside in the backyard that was filled with random students either playing pool or beer pong. it was almost just as crowded outside than it was inside.

alina was sitting on a lounge chair with julia on the other one next to it and sofia sitting on her lap. julia and sofia had been dating for a while and it was the happiest the two have been. the three of them were lost in a conversation with each other until sofia left to go refill their drinks.

"oh my god." julia muttered. her gaze went past alina. alina's smile dropped and followed her friend's eye line.

she turned around and immediately saw who she was looking at. alina turned herself back to face julia and buried her face in her hands. "how did lucas get into the party? he doesn't even go to this school." she started shaking her head.

"oh my god!" julia exclaimed, sounding even more surprised than before.

alina instantly picked her head up and looked at her friend wide-eyed.

julia spoke, "if you wanna have a good time tonight, i advise you to not turn around and act like we never saw him."

alina pressed her lips together. "yeah, saying don't turn around makes me wanna turn around." ignoring her best friend's advice, ali turned around again. she saw her ex boyfriend, lucas, again, but this time, he was with the girl who he cheated on alina with! who actually does go to her school!

alina should've listened to julia.

she was the one who broke up with lucas, but she still felt sick to her stomach. the audacity he had to show up to a party at her school with the girl he cheated on her with. and to make it even worse, lucas had already spotted her too.

he had his arm wrapped around his new girl as they made their way over to alina and julia. "hey, guys. haven't seen you in a while."

lucas earned two piercing glares from the girls. they were practically both shooting daggers at him with their eyes. julia stuck up her middle finger at him. she loved alina, but has always hated lucas. it always blew her mind how the two dated since they were in high school.

"i always appreciate the hostility from you, julia." he nodded.

"kill yourself." she deadpanned.

"anyway, how great is this party, right?" lucas changed the subject.

alina fidgeted with her earring and nodded her head, "it was." she sarcastically smiled.

"this is daniela." he introduced his girlfriend to them. "if you remember."

"how could i forget? i found her in your bed after all." alina continued to smile at them.

"sorry about that." daniela tried to apologize. no sincerity was found in her voice whatsoever.

alina just blinked at her, speechless on what to say. her heart was filled with so much rage. although the entire story unfolded three months ago, the wounds that were left were still fresh. she grabbed julia's hand and stood up before either of them could say or do something they'd regret. "well, we gotta go. try not to cheat on this one, luke!" she patted his shoulder.

the two girls hurried up inside and met back with sofia. after filling her in on the awkward interaction, the three decided to head out to julia and sofia's dorm.

there, alina put her hoodie and sweatpants back on and removed her makeup. since julia and sofia were each other's roommates, they squeezed onto sofia's bed for the night while alina slept in julia's. with nothing else better to do and the urge to distract her brain, alina began doomscrolling through instagram.

she tapped through everyone's stories and eventually saw that someone from her psychology class reposted one of daniela's photos. lucas and daniela were clearly seen all up on each other and alina could've sworn that she was gonna throw up on the spot. the hands that used to be wrapped around her were now wrapped around the girl she used to worry about. after staring for a humiliatingly long time, she exited out of the story.

she scrolled a bit through the main posts on her feed and saw that the triplets had posted one of their weekly photo dumps, announcing that a new video has been posted. a slight grin formed on her face as she swiped through each random and out-of-context photo.

she loved the triplets. they were like an extra set of brothers to her. they lived in the apartment across the hall from her and her brother and they became friends with samir ever since they moved in. so naturally when alina started living with samir and she would see them come over all the time, she befriended them.

despite already knowing who they were before becoming friends through samir, alina never really followed the triplets on social media nor watched their videos. but after getting to know them, she's made some time to watch their uploads from time to time. so, she exited out of the instagram app and went on youtube to watch chris finally being able to drive.

they were always such funny people and were always able to make alina laugh. as matt started telling a ridiculous story of what happened to him at the mall, alina quietly chuckled, successfully forgetting all about her ex and his new girl.
