โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย THINGS CONTINUED GETTING WORSE.ย There was not only one vampire running around, there were two, and they were killing people.
We were working tirelessly to hunt them down, but we weren't there yet. The wolves had successfully pushed them to the Canadian border the night prior, and so we took the chance to have a free afternoon of peace.
A thirty minute walk up to the cliff turned into one of almost an hour with how we couldn't keep our mouth shut and joked around for the entire time, slowing us downโ but finally, we arrived at the cliff.
It was a windy day, too cold to dive for any human. The wolves didn't have this problem, though, and were all starting to whoop excitedly as we arrived at our spot.
"Come on Embry, you'll be the first one down." Jared exclaimed, jumping from foot to foot, too much energy to stay still.
"Oh yeah!" Paul agreed with him, before putting Embry in a headlock to ruffle his hair.
"You guys are nuts." Emily shook her head in disapproval. The woman was certainly not on board with this, she really thought that cliff diving was the bane of her existence. Every time the guys would go, she would do a ten minute rant about it, before scolding them once they were backโ as worried as she was, we all knew that she was happy once she noticed how the activity could easily relax the guys. "And." Her hard stare pierced each and every one of the wolves, even her own boyfriend, "You are not pushing the girls today."
Emily was like a mama bear, and us girls were her cubs. It was actually funnyโ as much as heartwarmingโ to see how much she stood up for us against the pack. And each one of us only played more into her protective instinct by snitching on them whenever they would do somethingโ like when two days ago Jared, Paul and Embry had sprayed us with the hose as we tried to meditate to help Layla with her powers. That ended with the guys cleaning all the windows in the house.
"We are not?" Embry mumbled to his two friends, who widened their eyes and at the same time slapped him in the head.
"Shut up!" Whispered-shouted Jared.
"Oh no. You are not." I stated with a shake of my head, "Sam tell them that."
Sam shrugged his shoulders with a hidden smile, "I don't know what you are talking about."
"I'll push you down." I threatened, which it would have much more effect if I was thrown over someone's shoulder exactly then. "What, put me down, Paul."
"No can do."
I could hear the snickers from the other wolves the more he walked towards the ledge.
"Fucking hell." I mumbled under my breath, totally annoyed. I put the palm of hand on his back and heated it up until Paul let out a shriek of pain and unceremoniously dumped me back on my feet.
"You didn't." He looked positively murderous and I couldn't help but laugh. "I'll get you back, I promise."
I grinned at him once I was sitting between Maddison and Kim, "Sure, do you your worst."
"I will."
"How long do we think we have to wait before they dive?" Amelia asked as she judged with her sharp eyes the pack. "One minute, three, ten?"
It turned out not much since soon Paul yanked Embry away from Laylaโ where the two had continued non stop to talk together since the beginning of the trek up to the cliffโ and towards Jared. The second and third in command pushed and joked with their newest member, whooping once Embry was screaming as he dived down.
"He is fine, don't worry." I patted the shoulder of the water witch in comfort. This cliff was high, very high up. No one but us dived from here since it was so dangerous for any human, It had been the talk of all around La Push during summer. Another thing that didn't help with the cult rumor.
Paul followed after Embry with an excited shout, his voice ringing until it was overpowered by the splash of water, Jared did the same just after him. It was Sam's turn, but he was frozen, his stare lasered further away.
"Everything okay?" Emily asked to his boyfriend.
"Sam?" This time I voiced, and when he didn't reply, I walked to him, following the direction of his stare. "Is that Bella and Jacob?" My brother nodded his head. "Do you still think he will be the next one to phase?" I asked, remembering his thoughts that had once voiced.
"It makes sense." he replied, "He is a descendant of the last pack."
"Quil is too." I sighed, really hoping for him to be the next wolf then Jacob. I'm sure everyone would prefer anyone but Jacob at this point. How he was acting with Maddison wasn't a secret.
"Can you make sure?"
I turned back to catch the eyes of my coven, "We will." I replied after getting nods from the girls. We could easily do the spell.
Sam nodded his head and gave Jacob one last glance that felt foreboding before he was airborne with a perfect dive.

โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย The Clearing hadn't changed, it was still the same as the last time we had left it. The trees still circled around the space of land where in the middle of it, a flat stone was.
Butterflies were chasing around, leaves falling from trees as the wind swayed them softly. The birds were chirping and flowers were in full bloom.
There was no winter here, no autumn or spring and summer. It was only the forest and the magic.
We gawked at it like it was the first time that we had seen the placeโ like it was for Laylaโ before carefully sitting down at our respective spots.
East for Airโ Amelia. West for waterโ Layla. North for earthโ Kim. And lastly at south for fireโ myself.
"It doesn't feel empty anymore." I said softly, taking a minute to really rejoice of the fact once I closed my eyes. Coming here, as much as stunning was the place, it was hard. The emptiness like a missing limb of an incomplete coven wasn't pleasurable.
So we avoided coming here as much as possible.
Not anymore thoughโ I thought as I glanced towards Layla, noticing how I wasn't the only one.
"Okay so." Back to work we went. Kim snapped her fingers, magic sparkling and suddenly, her hands were occupied by the grimoire. "Are we going to repeat the spell that we used for Layla and Embry?"
"I was thinking of something else first." I spoke feeling a bit nervous. "What about completing the coven first?" I was honestly struggling to not bite my nails. Their heads snapped to me, "The coven is completed, after all. We just need to make it official and unlock fully the aether."
"I thought no one was gonna propose it anymore." Amelia grumbled, sighing in relief.
"Why didn't you then?" Kim rebutted with a quirked eyebrow,
"We had a lot in mind," Layla said. "With me unlocking my element, all the mess with Embry." Her cheeks turned pink, "And the cold ones, there wasn't much free time."
"So is this a yes or a no? I'm not understanding." I decided to ask, quite confused.
"Of course it's a yes." Kim laughed, her hair spilling on her back as she tilted her head, "How could we say no, Trixy?"
I rolled my eyes, faking my annoyance when all I felt was affection, "Then let's read the ritual, shall we?"
"Do you girls know how it is done?" Layla asked as she played with her fingers.
"Theoretically." Amelia replied, "The spell isn't simple, but it should feel natural the deeper we go." At least that was what was written in the grimoire. Amelia passed the book to the last witch since the rest of us had spent a lot of night just reading that spell and talking about it.
"Crystals first. We need to infuse them with our power." Layla read, and then she scratched her head, "How exactly do we do that?"
Taking from the chest that we left here in The Clearing four different clear crystals towers, I positioned them atop the flat stone. "All we need is a kennel of your power. Imagine your core, where your magic is stored and laid. And then, think of how a drop of that power detaches from the rest. Then lead it forward." As I spoke I followed my instructions until there was a tiny flame coming from my chest dancing in the air until I commanded it in one of the crystals.
Kim followed after me, her magic taking the shape of an in-bloom flower. Amelia's the one of a small tornado until it remained only Layla's turn. The water witch closed her eyes, a second, two, and finally a drop of water that glowed with magic was the result.
"I did it." She said excitedly, her grin bringing light to her features.
"Yes you did." Kim squeezed her shoulder, "Now, step two." She motioned for Layla to continue to read from the grimoire.
"Herbs. One to represent each element." She started to list them then, "Narcissus flowers for earth."
"For peace, growth and grounding," Kim explained with a blinding smile.
"Lavender for air." Layla continued.
"For communication, freedom and wisdom." Amelia said, like Kim she listed all the adjectives specificated for her element.
"Cinnamon for fire."
"Passion, power and courage." I said.
"For water we need Jasmine. Love, healing, peace and compassion. And lastly, for the last element we need mugwort for divination, psychicism and intuition."
"And salt, right?" I asked, already getting up to search for what we needed.
"Yes." Layla replied, "We need to draw a pentagram with them,"
It was rather simple, all the herbs we had them in the chest since they were fairly common ones or stored there for exactly this spell. Layla continued to read the ritual instructions out loud as the rest of us prepared everything. The pentagram with the herbs and salt, placing the four element-filled crystals in their spots and an empty one on the point. Candles were lit up and the wind was suddenly more present.
After Layla had finished reading the spell out loudโ twiceโ and once more just to be sure, we were ready to begin.
There was energy buzzing around, we felt it on our skin, traveling down our backs and setting our spine Aflame. We intertwined our hands, clutching at each other like a lifeline. We were all nervous, that was clear.
"We can do it." I suddenly said, my voice echoing louder in the silence. "We can do it."
"Yes we can." Kim nodded in agreement, her hand holding mine tighter.
A beat later and our eyes fell shut and the spell left our lips in the old Quileute language.
At first, nothing happened, and the spell was repeated for a second time in sequence, then, I felt it. I had no control as the flames shot out from my core and curled around my arms in a stream of red and orange. I gasped in unison to the other witches, and I noticed how their elements were doing the same as mineโ flowing down their arms until the hands where they merged with the others.
It was a full circle. Air with earth and fire, fire with water and air and so on until they converged to the center taking a purple color.
The chant continued and I felt myself, my powers change, transmuted, leaving space to accommodate the aether as it unlocked completely and merged us in a coven.
It was a beautiful sight, full of bright color, and nature around us responded to our magic blooming perfectly and majestically.
Peace was the first thing that I felt when the last word of the spell was spoken. And then chaos underneath my skin as it exploded in waves all around me, stealing my breath and knocking me unconscious.
The last thing that I saw were the other girls experiencing the same thing.
And yet, I felt strangely at peace with the power of the coven that I could feel thumping in my veins. ย
