โ•ฐโ”ˆหš ยท ยฐ . ย EVERYONE KNEW WHO CASSIAN RAINE WAS.

Cassian Raine was the golden boy of the Rez. Since he was little, Cassian was the type of person that you couldn't help but love. He was the sun, shining his light above the cold and gray Olympic peninsula. With his bright smile even the hardest hearts and stoic adults melted at the sight of it. He had always been a kind and gentle kid, always ready to help, never speaking bad of anyone. He wasn't perfect though, Cassain had a streak of mischief that ran through his blood. He pulled pranks more often than not, but his contagious laugh and sweet character couldn't make you ever be mad at him. He had charm to him, he could get out of every situation with a few words and showing his breathtaking smile. Cassian Raine was the type of boy who helped the elderly do their grocery and volunteer at the animal shelter. It was easy to love Cassian, hard to dislike him even in the slightest. There was not one person who disliked Cassian that I knew of, even I had fallen under his charm onceโ€”I was mostly sure that even Amelia had at some pointโ€”as I said, Cassian was the sun.

It wasn't as weird as one would think for rain to grace us even in the beginning of summer. It was a light, drizzling over us wetting the pelt of the new wolf, but even if it was raining, there was still the sun out, and a rainbow flashing through the sky.

The golden brown fur was stunning to see, lighter around the snout that nearly looked white, and shading into orange around his ears.

I was standing in an old basketball court that was overtaken almost completely by nature outside of the boy's house. Sam was with me, Paul and Leah as well. And as for the girls, Layla had come as well.

Cassian was the sun, and apparently not even shifting into a wolf had made it any different. The huge golden brown wolf was... chasing butterflies.

"What the hell?" Sam mumbled as he stared at the new wolf. The presence of the Cullens in Forks had begun to trigger wolves once again, and Cassian had been the first to succumb to the gene. My brother was the only one between the rest of his pack present at that moment that hadn't shifted. The alpha, as he had done countless times before, had the task of talking with the new wolf. Using the shared mink link of the pack would be too much usually, that was why he remained human. The wolves with himโ€”usually Jared and Paul as they were the highest in the hierarchy after Samโ€”would appear shifted in case the situation turned bad and violent. This was the first time that there hadn't been the need to calm down a phasing wolf.

Layla and I had come with them. Usually, the coven let the pack handle their new members, but we decided to step forward this time around after what Tayen had told us, and so, here we were.

"He looks more like a golden retriever than a wolf." I deadpanned, looking amused at the sight of the 6 ft wolf trotting around all cheerful, trying to jokingly nip at Leah's earโ€”the girl growling menacingly at him until he went awayโ€”and yipping happily. I took from the ground the discarded basketball that Cassian had left while he phased, and I subsequently decided that it was a good idea to throw it, "Fetch!" I shouted with too much enthusiasm that the other shifters definitely didn't match from the way they turned towards me with various looks of disbelief.

"Trixy!" Layla tried to give a scolding glare but it was null since she started to giggle uncontrollably soon after. The fact that Cassian actually fetched the ball and brought it to me definitely didn't help.

I looked quite disgusted at the ball covered in slobber but I grinned nonetheless when the wolf jumped from paw to paw.

I petted him on his head and behind his ears and suddenly his tongue lolled out of his mouth and his eyes rolled at the back of his head. I couldn't help but giggle, Layla with me as we showered him in pets and praise.

"He is so cute." the water witch awed, "Aren't you a good boy?"

"Yes you are. So cute, look at him." I said. He was an overgrown golden retriever, all happy and needing cuddles.

"Okay that's enough, you two." exasperated Sam yanked us away from Cassian who whined in discontentment.

"Sam." I whined, with my hand trying to reach Cassian's fur again. "You are making him sad."

"He is not a dog, stop petting him." he said strongly and huffed as if this conversation was bringing him actual pain and discomfort. "And Paul is one aw's away from making yours and Amelia's idea of a fur rug come true."

I raised an eyebrow leaning back to look at my boyfriend who was snarling silently in threat at the new wolfโ€”who was completely ignoring him or hadn't noticed at all.

I bit my lips to contain a wider grin before I turned towards Cassianโ€”who was still looking quite sad at the fact that he wasn't receiving any scratches behind his ears anymoreโ€” and said, "Time to change back, Sunshine. We can play later."

"Amelia is going to love this." Layla subtly commented as we stepped back for Sam to lead Cassian back to his human form.

"Oh yeah." I agreed, and then suddenly, the golden brown wolf was replaced by the human right in front of our eyes. A very naked human.

"Hey look, I'm human again!" The boy cheered.

My jaw slacked and next to me Layla yelped before slapping a hand over her eyes, my own coming above hers to shield her away like the good friend I was.

"Jesus." I commented, stuck in place as I watched the boy, uncaring of his nudity, shaking his head full of fluffy hair to get rid of the drops of rain and grin with wide eyes of excitement at the three wolves. The sun was hitting his tawny skin and the rainbow framed his body. "Well, okay."

The view was suddenly covered by a snarling wolf, "I swear to god, Beatrice." I heard Paul growl to me through the coven-pack link, "Look away. Now."

I cleared my throat nodding my head, and turned myself around doing the same for my friend.

"I told you to wait and try to shift behind the tree." Sam spoke sternly, to which Cassian just shrugged easily.

"Well, it worked. It was so cool, oh my god!" he laughed, the sound twinkling like bells. "I want to do it again."

"Later." My brother said with a heavy sigh, "Now we need to explain everything to you."

โ•ฐโ”ˆหš ยท ยฐ . ย Emily was blushing. That much wasn't a surprise when Cassian had taken to compliment the woman at every chance as they cooked together. He had volunteered to do the task just after everything had been explained to him.

He had taken far too goodโ€”better than anyone I had ever seen, actuallyโ€”only looking annoyed at the fact that he couldn't hang out as much with his best friend anymore or talk with him about this. He had taken it as a challenge, saying that he would do anything to make him shift next so that they could be together again. He looked proudly at the pack tattoo on his shoulder, smiling every time he caught a glance of it.

"I don't like him." Sam wasn't liking his latest member, he was glaring at the boy who innocently flirted with his girl with arms crossed over his chest.

"Impossible." Kim replied with a heavy shake of her head, "He is literally impossible to hate, just look at that smile." she motioned with her hand at the boy who was actually smilingโ€”like he ever didn'tโ€”Cassian just was that type of person, always smiling at everything and at every time.

"As much as I hate to admit it." Paul started, "he is actually cool. And he is really good at basketball, I saw him play."

Sam turned towards his third-in-command, his stoic face never moving as he said, "Beatrice had a crush on him."

My eyes widened at his words, that little backstabber, "Sam!"

"You what?!" Paul snapped his head towards me so fast that I was almost sure he got whiplashed.

"Oh fucking hell." I groaned, hitting Kim in her ribs as she started to laugh.

"You had a crush on me?" Cassian asked far too happily, leaning over the counter of the kitchen closer to me as I was sitting there on the stool.

"Oh yeah." I wiggled my eyebrows teasingly. I liked Cassain as a person, it was rare to find someone like him.

Paul pushed the sunshine boy's head away with a withering glare, "You stay away from her." jealousy pushed his words out, and made him move my stool away from the counter so that he could stand in front of me, blocking my view of Cassian with his abs.

"It was in sixth grade, you can calm down." I huffed a laugh, needing to tilt my head so much to look at him in the eyes that it almost hurt.

"Oh right, you got over it because he was too happy for you." Leah rolled her eyes as she said that, recalling what I had told her the night of the bonfire, "which says a lot about your mental health."

"You stopped liking him because he was too happy?" Paul asked me with a raised eyebrow.

"I was a very traumatized kid alright?"

"You are still very traumatized." Kim added, to which I snorted.

"His optimism was a bit too much for me at that time." I said.

"How can optimism be a bit too much?" Cassian asked, pondering on the question out loud, "it's impossible."

I leaned back to look at him with a deadpan expression, "My alcoholic father beated me if I even coughed when he was around. Yes, Cass, your optimism was a bit too much for me."

"Jesus Christ Tris, really?"

I looked at my brother, "What?" I sighed in fake sadness, looking down at my lap, "Jared and Amelia would have laughed."

Paul breathed out a laugh, "Alright my traumatized girl." He left a kiss on top of my head before I felt him shift to the side, "Heard that, my girl, so keep your eyes and hands away from her."

Cassian only laughed, slinging an arm around Emily's shoulders blowing me a kiss.

โ•ฐโ”ˆหš ยท ยฐ . ย That night the cheerful mood shifted when Jacob called an emergency meeting.

The only thing we knew was that he had dragged Quil and Embry with him to the graduation party held at the Cullen's house. It was late when he woke us all up by speaking through the coven-pack bond, and more than a few of us were more annoyed by our sleep being interrupted than actually preoccupied about the why of this meeting.

The wolves on patrolโ€”Leah and Jaredโ€”were the only one actually awakeโ€”Sam too, but that is just Samโ€”the rest of us were in various states of sleep, much less awake. Paul, for example, looked quite comfortable with using my tits as his personal pillow or Kim that was laying literally on top of Jaredโ€”who apparently had to drag her out of bedโ€”I could've sworn that I had heard Cassian and Seth snore at some point.

"Why did you call this meeting, Jacob?" Sam asked, his voice still thick with sleep even if he appeared wide awake.

Jacob was pacing back and forth, only stopping at the alpha's question, putting his hands on his hips, "We were at the Cullen's-"

"Yes, we know." Paul scoffed out venomously, "you reek of death."

"As I was saying," Jacob began again, even if his tone more strained by his annoyance, "We were at the Cullen's and the weird girl with the spiky hair-"

"Her name is Alice and you know it." this time I interrupted, earning an irritated sigh from the wolf. As much as I disliked the Cullens, at that moment I disliked Jacob as well, and vexing him was a playful pastime.

"She had a vision." he continued as if nothing had happened.

"Visions,? Like, of the future?" Cassian blurted out, raising his head from the arm of the couch where it was previously resting, "Vampires can have visions?"

Sam turned to the new wolf, "Some of them have gifts. We don't know much about it, just the basics." He turned towards Maddison, who thanks to Bella knew more than all of us.

"Alice can see the future," She started, "But it's not set in stone, it can change if there is a new decision. From what Bella told me, she can't see the pack nor the coven. Her mate, Jasperโ€”the blond oneโ€”can manipulate emotions to a certain extent. Edward can read minds."

"That's actually...cool. Damn!" Cassian reluctantly admitted, and much to everyone's annoyance, he was right.

"Continue, Jacob." Sam said.

With a clench of his jaw that he let go a second later, Jacob went on, "She had this vision about this army, one that is coming here. An army of newborns."

I snorted before I could contain myself at the same time as Amelia, Cassian and Jared.

"An army of newborns? That's scary okay."Jared jested with a giggle.

"Newborns vampires, you dumbassess." Quil quipped, rolling his eyes and earning a few chuckles from the room "Vampires just turned."

"They are after Bella." Jacob claimed strongly.

Embry, who stood next to Jacob, explained further, his fingers interlaced with Layla's as she sat on the couch, "Alice saw them pass around her jacket to catch her scent."

Silence rang in the room as loud as a scream as we assimilated what they had said, it was only when Quil shoved Jacob with his shoulder and motioned for the boy to continue that that stillness was broken.

Jacob opened and closed his mouth a few times before he was ready to speak again, "I told them that we would fight too."

Anger sparkled through the packโ€”this was almost as direct a challengeโ€”Jacob wasn't the alpha, he had no right to say that. The boy turned towards Sam, "We need to fight, it's the right choice."

"It's not yours to make." Sam grounded out, "You are not the alpha."

"This means life or death!" Jacob hollered, "We all need to be there to fight. The Cullens cannot win alone, and the army will attack us as well once they kill all of them!"

Paul scoffed, "We can take them."

For once, I could see where Jacob was coming from. He was right butโ€“"Did you say all of us?"

Jacob squared his shoulder as if already preparing for a fight when he nodded his head, "Yes. All of us."

"Are you saying that you told them about us?" Layla asked accusingly.

Embry and Quil were quick to shake their heads, even if they looked quite chastised, "No, but the Cullens know that you girls are something, Jacob just..."

"What? Agreed on our part too?" Kim questioned with a hiss.

"Yes. As I said, we all need to fight."

"This was not your decision to make." I sneered, "You had no power to say that we would help."

"The only ones who could ever agree to this is us, not you or the rest of the pack. Just us." Amelia grounded out, her eyes latching on every person present there.

"I know but-"

"No buts."

The hold on my waist became harder, and when I looked at Paul, he was almost red with anger. I winched when I remembered that all of us witches had a wolf that had been imprinted on us. Taking this decision would be even harder with them butting their head and speaking about our safety and whatever. At least now I knew why Embry couldn't look at Jacob now.

"They proposed to meet them, to learn about these vampires and how they are different from the normal ones. How we could fight them in the best way." Jacob began again, not as sure as he had been before. He turned towards Sam now, "We could listen to them, hear what they have to say and then decide."

Sam pondered on his thoughts for a minute or so, looking perplexed around the room, even hearing the thoughts of the other wolves before he finally nodded his head at Jacob, "I'll call Carlisle tomorrow but this doesn't meant that there will not be any repercussions for what you have done, Jacob." his tone turned gravelly, a hint of his wolf in there, "I'm the alpha. The next time you challenge me, it will not end peacefully. Until the day that I lose my title, my position, you'll follow what I tell you, not the other way around."

Well said, brother.

"Yes, Alpha." Sam waited for Jacob to bow his head, before he relaxed his body.

Sam then turned towards me, glancing towards Amelia, Kim and Layla as well, "What about you?"

I slapped my hand on Paul's mouth before he could say anything, opening the coven link between me and the rest of the witches. Finally, when the verdict was unanimous, I replied, "We are in."
