โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย GUILT IS A POWERFUL EMOTION. It is like a seed planted inside of you that grows and grows as the day passes. It creates roots, welding its power deep inside of you. And there are two things that you can do, you can let it fester, or you can conquer it.
Emily's hospital room smelled like lilies, a gift from the earth witch that continued to grow flowers for the wounded girl. A couple of chairs were placed around Sam's imprints, all taken by the rest of us girls.
An entire week had passed since the accident had happened, and day by day, ever so slowly, Emily was regaining her health even if the three long long scars were going to be on her skin for the rest of her life.
I knew that the girl was not a fan of her new wounds, but as she continued to tell us, she wasn't and will never blame Sam for it.
The two were fighting when it happened. Emily had become aware of the rumors going around the Rez of how she was spending a bit too much time with her cousin's ex-boyfriend. It for sure didn't look good to the eyes of the people, definitely not to Leah. Emily was a kind hearted girl, and when she became aware that she was unconsciously hurting her cousin, she decided to end everything that had just begun to bloom between the pair of imprinter-imprintee. Going as far as denying the bond, commanding Sam to get back with Leah.
I knew that deep down it wasn't what she had really wanted, but making Leah suffer more than she already was, was something that Emily didn't and will never want.
So to make sure that Sam would go awayโ since the wolf was not agreeing with her decisionโ she had used the only weapon that she had. Something that wounded Sam so deep down that he had inevitably lashed out.
If there was something that was going to get Sam angered in a mere second, it was the mention of our father. And Emily did just that.
She had compared Sam to Joshua.
Joshua Uley had not only abandoned his familyโ at least, that had been the only good thing that that man had done in his life, in my opinionโbut of course, it didn't translate the same to the rest of the people of the Rez.
For the others, he had just left his two children behind with a heartbroken mother to take care of them.
But Joshau wasn't a bad person because of that. No, he had the bad habits of drinking until you could only smell the alcohol on him from far away. He would drink, and the first person that his eyes would meet, it would inevitably meet with his wrath.
I remember more times than not when I was little and the screams and sobs of my crying mother would reach me when I would cover myself with my blankets. Or when Sam would drag me in the closet to escape his rage, taking it all of it himself.
And I remember how my scalp burned when he would yank my hair, or my ribs aching for weeks, or the taste of blood on my tongue.
Our mother would take whatever Joshua Uley had to give. It didn't matter if it was harsh words and hard hands, everything was better than nothing at all in her eyes.
Joshua Uley never deserved to have a family. And as much as I hate to admit it, not even my mother didโ- a woman who loved her abusive husband more than her children.
I could understand Sam's rage at the words that his imprint had directed at him. Just as I could understand the guilt that was eating him up. The woods had stolen him for the entire week already.
In the evening, I was worried about his health and decided to leave huge pieces of meat for him to eatโ since I honestly didn't know if he knew how to hunt or if he would even do itโ It felt like we were again in the beginning, just the two of us.
Me leaving food for him at the end of the forest behind our house, and him deep in the woods, alone and scared.
We had all tried to search for him more than once, but it was clear that he had no intention to be found. We had given him a week of autonomy before doing a spell and using it to deliver the message that we wanted.
Emily was alive, safe, and she wanted to meet him.
"Are you sure that you can find him?" Emily asked, voice still raw from the injury and the pain of the healing scars.
Amelia hummed, head buried in the grimoire. "It shouldn't be hard. We can use Beatrice as blood conduit since they are siblings. He won't know that we tracked him so he won't run away."
"He doesn't want to be found." Sadness creeped on the Young girl's tone, before the pulling at her skin from the expression made her wince in pain.
"He hurt you." Kim told her, taking the woman's hand in hers, "Guilt is eating him alive. And since you are his..."
"Imprint." Amelia finished for her, "it makes everything ten times worse."
"A wolf would do anything other than hurt their imprint. It's like a wound directly on their soul." I replied, the words that spilled the exact same that Paul had spoken to me.
"I don't blame him." Emily said.
I tore my gaze away from the widow where I was focused on looking outside at the view to gaze at her, "But he blames himself."
"Maddi, make sure no one enters." Amelia suddenly commanded the human girlโ who nodded and exited the room already knowing what was going to happen. The air witch then proceeds to sit on the pavement, "Trixy, the candles."
With a quick snap of my fingers, the five candles lit upโ after that, I followed Amelia and sat down on the floor, Kim did the same.
We created a bed of various herbs in the middle of us three, a quartz placed in the middleโ and it was just on top of the crystal, that I let a drop of my blood fall.
Using the old Quileute language, we spoke the spell. Murmured words filled the room, magic collecting around us. The crystal lit up with a beam of lightโ air, fire and earth enveloping the single drop of bloodโ moments later, a flash of images appeared behind our closed lids before an invisible rope formed between us witches and the shifted alphaโ a rope that we could follow to find the wolf.
"Did you find him?" The anxiety from the girl along with many other emotionsโ awe, preoccupation, sadness, guilt, painโ all slither through the fallen barriers of our empathic gift making all of us witches winch at the same time at the assault of her emotions.
"Yes. We can follow the spell to him." I replied with a sincere smile towards the injured girl. "We are going to bring him back, Em, don't worry."
"Thank you." She said, eyes shining with unshed tears.
"We better go." Kim said, dusting herself off as she stood up. She kissed the woman on her cheek, beaming her a wide and cheerful grin. "See you later, angel eyes!"
We just had the time to mutter a goodbye to Emily before Kim had dragged us away taking Maddison with us when we passed by her in the hallway.

โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย The forest was a place of comfort for every witch. It was easy to lose yourself in it with nature surrounding you. The forest of La Push had the particular gift of bringing out our magic in the most unconventional way.
We could feel it pulse just below the surface. It was easier to let a small string of it loose. A flower bloomed, embers flickered in the air, a light gust of wind.
The spell that we had performed had created a rope binding us three witches with Sam that we started to follow as soon as we stepped inside the woods.
"How is your sister?" Kim asked the Swan girl as until that moment, we had all walked in silence.
"She is fine. Happy with her vampire boyfriend that definitely doesn't like me." She explained, rolling her eyes when she mentioned Edward.
The relationship between the honorary member of the pack and Edward Cullen was strained at best. Most of the time the two didn't talk at all, only Maddison continued to receive glare and disgusted looks from the boy whenever Bella wasn't looking.
Since the treaty stated precisely that they could not speak of our secret to anyone, Bella had no idea of the existence of the wolves. Meaning, she didn't know that Maddison was aware of the supernatural. That could not have been said about Edward, that for sure knewโ even from the few words that he exchanged with Maddisonโ and he wasn't very happy about it.
To his eyes, the wolves were uncontrollable beasts that could snap and hurt anyone at any moment.
The feud between wolves and vampires was longโ long millenniaโ and it wasn't going to end anytime soon, I was sure of it.
"Yesterday, I was watching Gray's Anatomy on the couchโ"
"Like almost every night." I commented with a snicker.
"And they came in." The girl continued, not before rolling her blue ocean eyes. "Bella went into the kitchen for not even a minute leaving us alone, and he said, quoting 'Can you at least shower? You are infesting this house with their wet dog smell'. Can you believe that?"
Mia let out a scoff, outraged at the behavior of the man, "First of all, that's your home, who does he think he is?"
"A virgin 100 years old with a lot of issues." I replied, not sarcastic at all.
Kim beamed, chuckling as she high fived me. "Description on point."
"And second... What exactly did you reply to that?"
"I told him 'if you don't like the smell, don't breathe. It's not like you need it anyway'." Maddison scoffed, crossing her arms on her chest. "Then he just glared at me until Bella came back."
"Can you burn him? Please, Beatrice, I really don't like him." Kim said with a pleading tone, lower lips more pronounced as she pouted.
"If not for the treaty, I would have definitely done it already." I scoffed, playing with the small flame that swirled between my fingers.
I had discovered that doing that was much like an anti-stress. It helped me calm down.
"Talking about anything that is not Cullen-" Mia started, "My brother was smiling pretty hard this morning and yesterday, you didn't even reply to one of our messages until early this morning."
"And?"
"Don't play dumb, Maddison. What happened?" I asked. We were all waiting for the juicy details. Hopefully, something had finally happened between them.
"Nothing happened." Maddi laughed, red creeping into her cheeks.
I quirked upwards an eyebrow. "Nothing? What do you mean nothing?"
"Nothing at all? How?" Amlia asked, "Then why was he so happy this morning."
"I don't know. We just spent the entire day together. We fell asleep and when I woke up it was too late so he asked me if I wanted to sleep there."
"You slept in with him?!" Kim shrieked. "In the same bed!"
I didn't know someone could become that red. The color of the Swan girl's cheeks had become a pure bright red. "We didn't- we uh-"
"You didn't have sex?" Amelia said for the girl, smirking when Maddison covered her face with her hands in total embarrassment.
"No we didn't. We just slept."
"Together." I added in a teasing tone.
"Yeah- I mean no!"
"We get it, Maddi." I chuckled. I turned towards Kim, confusion blooming on my features. "And why were you so scandalized by them having sex? I'm pretty sure that you and Jared have a more active sex life than everyone here combined."
"Excuse me?"
"I'm sorry. Everyone here apart from Amelia." I corrected myself after the air witch had sent a pretty heavy offended look.
"I wasn't scandalized, I was surprised. There is a difference." Kim said, scoffing a breath of disbelief.
"The fact that you are not denying that you and Jared fuck like bunnies-"
Cutting the air witch off, Kimberly said "Can we stop talking about my sex life and start talking about Trixy's?"
"Can we not?" I groaned.
"Why? Because you'll have to admit that it's clear that Paul wants to jump your bones?" Amelia asked, a smirk coat her glossed lips.
"Alright!" I exclaimed, not ready to talk about Paulโ like at all. Whatever there was between usโ because I could at least acknowledge that there was something between usโ I wasn't ready to speak of it outloud.
Paul Lahote was infuriating on many aspects, but I would be lying If I said that he wasn't at the same time charming in a dangerous way to my heart.
"Sam is near." I told them, "We better focus on finding my brother and bringing him to his imprint."
"Right, agree." Maddi nodded her head, "What direction?" She then asked.
"This way." Amelia replied, "And Kim, focus. Stop touching every tree."
"Buzzkill." Muttered the earth witch earning a few chuckles from the rest of us girls.
We walked for at least another ten minutes, deeper into the forest, before the whines of the wolf reached our ears.
"You go." Mia whispered, slightly shoving me forward.
Agreeing with her, the other nodded her head in my direction.
With careful steps, I advanced slowly towards the small cave where Sam's wolf had chosen to hide in. The pain that he was experiencing was almost tangible.
"Sam." I softly called my brother's name, "It's Trixy."
The wolf snapped his eyes open showing us the same colored irises of my brother. Panic swirled through his veins as his gaze landed on me and the other girl stayed a bit further behind.
"It's okay, there is no need to panic." With a gentle tone I spoke. Spooking him was the last thing that we needed, and right now, he was very prone to be triggered.
I tried to reach for the connection between the pack and witchesโ the mental link that we could use to communicate through our mindsโ only to find it blocked. The dark room lit up with air, fire and earth dimmed in strength the more I tried to search for my brother.
"He is blocking us." I faintly heard Kim speak,
"Sam-"
A warning growl escaped the wolf's mouth as I took another step forward. A warning for me to stay away. At that moment, I wasn't sure if Sam was conscious of what was happening or he had just found refuge in the deep part of his mind letting the wolf completely take over.
"Emily." I said, "She is asking for you. She is fine, healing quickly. She wants to see you."
But the wolf bared his teeth. He did not want anyone to disturb him. The pain was almost unbearable to feel with the empathic gift, I couldn't even begin to understand how he was feeling at that moment.
"He is not going to listen." I told the others as I stepped back towards them. We still all kept our eyes trained on the Alpha, nothing that he could take off at any moment.
"We need to make him listen and understand." Kim insisted.
"Yeah, how?" Mia scoffed, "He blocked us completely off. We can't even show him that we are not lying."
"That's it." Maddison exclaimed, an idea blooming through her mind, "You need to make him see her, that she is alive. Of course we can't bring Emily here but-"
"I have an idea." The earth witch said with a smile looking around herself, "We need to force our way through his part of the connection. Some types of orchid secrete substances that have an excitatory effect on the nervous system. They can create severe dizziness. If I make one bloom with a more concentrated effect, Mia, you can use the wind to make a protective bubble and trap the substances around Sam so that it can have the most effect. This is going to weaken him and Trixiy can easily force through his part of the connection and say what she needs to while sending him her memories of Emily."
"Thatโ That's actually a brilliant plan." I admitted, impressed by Kim's sudden idea.
"True. That was surprising." Amelia said.
Beaming at us with her sunshine smile, Kim replied in a cheerful tone, "Thank you."
"Alright, there is no time to lose, girls. C'mon!"
Us witches left Maddison further back. Between us she was the only one that Sam had literally zero supernatural instinct to not hurt.
The wolf soon became agitated when he saw the three of us approach him, a growl echoing through the forest released from his chest.
The white orchid that bloomed from the ground seemed much healthier than anyone I had ever seen before, a twist of her hands, and a transparent shield formed around Sam like a bubble. A single nod of the air witch, and Kim snapped her fingers. The substances coming off from the orchid were usually invisible to the human eyes but the magic infused it gave a slight shimmer to it.
It had a quick effect on Sam. The wolf let out a whine, squeezing his eyes shut and shaking his head furiously.
"Now!"
It was definitely way much simpler then I had anticipated. It was like in that moment of distress, Sam had opened up his mental link automatically searching for his pack and the coven. I let memory after memory of Emily slip through the connectionโ all of them after the accident until just one was left. The one where she asked us to meet him. Almost pleading.
Another whine could've been heard from the wolf as he lowered on the ground after being assaulted by the many images of his imprint.
Broken branches and fast steps approached us from our left before two wolvesโ a chestnut and a silver one.
They stood between us girls and the slowly phasing back to human alpha.
The sound of broken bones echoed through the forest, an animal growl changing into the one of a human. And soon, there was no black wolf but a human man.
"Sam." I breathed a sigh of relief at the sight of my brother. I was just about to step forward when another wolf turned his head towards me, mahogany eyes glaring directly at me. I was sure that he didn't really want me to go near my brother.
Ignoring Paul with a roll of my eyes, I passed between the two wolves before throwing some sweatpants at my brother. I didn't need to see all of him.
As soon as I was sure that he was wearing some clothes I turned towards him, "Hey." I swallowed the riding emotion in my throat. I didn't need to start crying right now. And I was sure that it wasn't exactly the right moment.
I missed him.
Sam breathed out loud and heavy breath, his hand clenching in the earth, "She wants- need to see you." I whispered to my brother once I was kneeling in front of him making us have an easier eye contact. "Emily told us what happened." I started, ignoring the way he winched at the name of his imprint, "What she said wasn't true, she just said it so you would leave." Our father was a sensible subject for the both of us, even hearing his name was enough to make anger spark through our bodies, "I understand why you snapped."
"I don't." He rasped, his tone thicker and gruff from the lack of using.
"Yes, you do. We both know that if someone had said that to me my powers would have probably incinerated them." I shook my head, "don't let him ruin this too, please."
"She is right. I'm just like him." He scoffed, eyes pooling with tears.
"No you are not."
"He is our father, Trixy, his blood runs through our veins."
My lower lips trembled until rage took over, "Really, then should I start worrying that you are going to beat the shit out of me too?" I scoffed. As much as I loved my brother, I understood what he was going through, what he had just said was not okay. And I could stay there and listen to whatever he was trying to insinuate. "We are not him, Sam. Stop saying that." I told him as I stood up from the ground.
I didn't want to look at him right now, because he knew, he knew how real the fear of even being similar to our father was not only for him.
