โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย WHEN WE ARRIVED AT THE CALDWELL'S HOUSE, we parked Amelia's car just a bit further away from the driveway. The two story home with the exterior of horizontal white planks and red terracotta roof, was only visible thanks to the sparse garden lights and the shine of the moon. Soon, with quick steps, we approached the back of the house, where we knew Kim's room was with two windows overlooking the backyard that was cured to the fine details by the girl. At least the bit of stalking we already did was paying off. And it was then that we felt it. The way the ground trembled for a second before setting itself again. It was low frequency, not rough to be felt probably by anyone awake.
"That is not a good sign." Amelia said with a concerned look as we glanced at each other.
"We need to get to her without waking her entire family. The elders have not told her parents yet since we did not expect for them to be already changing." I couldn't help but let out a stressed sigh as I passed my hands through my hair just as another earthquake shook the earth. Slightly harder than the other.
"Yes but how?" Panicking Amlia started to look around as she paced back and forth. "What are we gonna do, fly?"
"You were right. Teleporting sounds really good right now." I commented, resulting in sarcasm to hide all the stress and anxiety and fear.
The sound of a door opening made us snap our head towards the side, and another shake was felt.
"Mia? Trixy?" Cladded in her brown pajamas, hair completely disheveled and eyes unfocused, Kim walked out from the backside door. "What are you doing here?" She asked. But the girl couldn't keep her focus on us for much longer, her eyes traveling to grass underneath her bare feet, to the flowers that she had grown with care, everything that was earth related.
"We can explain but you have to come with us." Mia said as she took a couple of steps forward.
"What? I-" Her chest rattled with a cough cutting off what she was trying to say abruptly.
"It's important Kim." throwing the precaution the wind, I advanced until I was able to grab her arm, but yet again, the earth shook and another cough escaped her lips. The hand that had come to cover her mouth was now stained with dirt, just like her lips.
"What the-"
"Amelia, start the spell we practiced." I said taking the lead into this situation, as I walked in a rush the new unlocking witch as far in her backyards as I could until her legs were unable to carry her anymore. "Just a bit further." I pleaded.
"I can't, I can't." Her words were muffled by the continuous coughs. "What- what is happening to me?" Tears were now straining down her cheeks as her knees touched the ground.
The bubble-like protection that Amelia had created would help with the sound. Anyone outside of it would not be able to hear or see whatever we were doing or saying.
"Let's go." Mia said, taking the new witch's other arm, as we dragged her on the other side of the white fence directly into the woods.
Screams fell from Kim's lips, her hands covering her throat, punching her chest as more soil was coughed. Her eyes were starting to get red from the strain, her body sogging down almost as if there was weight on her.
"You need to let it out. Let the magic run through you. Don't block it off, don't try to contain it. Just let it out." I said as the earthquake began again, this time enough to make both of us who were standing, wobble.
"Listen to her, Kim. Just follow your instincts. Let your magic decide. Don't force it." Amelia added.
We were both ready when the strangled scream fell from her lips and the ground broke from under our feets. Amelia and I were both covered in a bubble of our elements, keeping us protected. We had taken in consideration that something like this would happen. Even if her magic could not hurt us, it created earthquakes shooks strong enough to form small craters in the ground when unlocked. At least that was what had happened to the previous earth witch of the pack of the 1930s. The knowledge of that had actually been useful since almost the same thing had happened with Kim.
The girl, the new witch, exhausted passed out after what felt an eternity of pained screams and soil-coughing. And with that, nature righted itself, blooming and thriving. The way nature responded to our magic never failed to amaze me.
The first howl of the new wolf echoed through the forest, followed by two others, made Amelia and I snap our heads in that direction.
Paul had shifted.
That was enough for us to let out tired sighs, returning our focus back to us and dropping our spells.
"This could have gone in a much worse way." Mia said.
"Oh definitely." I added with a snort. I don't know why we started laughing. Maybe it was because we were just reeling from all the adrenaline, all the anxiety, maybe it was because we were tired, but it didn't matter, we laughed anyway without a reason, because for sure it was not the most appropriate thing to do at that moment.
"We should bring her back to the car." The air witch said before adding sarcastically "I'm not sure the forest ground is a comfortable place to have a nap."
"Done that, and yes, It's not. 0 out of 10, do not recommend." I replied remembering the night where I had unlocked my own element. "But hey, she is the earth witch, maybe it's different for her, who knows?"
"We'll make sure to test that theory someday." Smirking, my friend joked. "C'mon, maybe we can get a bit of sleep too before she wakes up."

โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย It wasn't that I was a stranger to my anger issues, but this, this was on whole other level, and still, I couldn't think, I couldn't hear the words that my father was shouting at me as for once he looked up from his computer just to complain about my shitty grades, shitty attitude and shitty everything. The red hue that covered my eyes normally had now shifted to a black colored lense that had crimson shades. Too much rage. That was what I was feeling when I jumped from my seat at the dinner table, the chair scraping the floor before I stormed out of there. Forgetting my phone, forgetting any jacket because I was boiling hot, my skin felt like a burning fire. I jogged to the old gym where I worked. At that time of the evening, it was already almost empty apart from a couple of people and Larry, the co-owner. He and his wife, Michelle, had opened the place years ago. M&L, even if it was run down and definitely had not high quality equipment, it was my safe haven. The place where I would go to let my anger out without my fist connecting with someone's face or for my dick to be buried in some girl's pussy.
And still, after hours of punching, I felt even worse. The gym was deserted at that point. Working as an instructor definitely had its perks. The owners trusting me, was another. It had been Michelle to give me the keys after understanding my situation slightly. But now, where it had always helped me, even if just a bit, even boxing was failing. I almost wanted to scream from the frustration. The more I punched, the angrier I would get. And the angrier I would get, the hotter I felt. It had arrived to the point where I had started to believe that my skin was starting to melt off.
Grunting annoyedly, I took the hand wraps off myself, ripping them in the process. I threw them to the side before storming off towards the widows, opening all of them to make the space being invaded with the mid-march wind. And when I opened the door for the same purpose, I felt the bone in my leg break. I shouted in pain falling down just as the bone in my upper thigh followed my tibia and broke too.
I didn't understand what the fuck was happening. I wasn't even moving and yet again another bone broke, this time in my other leg. Everything felt so overwhelming. The rage that continued to crease, the pain of the broken bones...
And apparently I was hallucinating too, because a wolf, one too big to be real, had just stepped out from the woods. Black like charcoal and big as a horse, nose twitching until he met my eyes. Eyes too human.
"What the-" I stammered, but a scream tore from my lips with another bone breaking. And another and another.
I didn't even notice, but it was only when I heard my name being called, a command that I had to follow, I noticed that Sam Uley was now there. Standing in only jeans cropped at the knee in a similar outfit to the slightly older teen was Jared Cameron. He was watching carefully, wincing everytime one of my bones would break. And they were breaking one after the other.
"Focus, Paul." Again the command that I couldn't help but follow.
"Focus on what, asshole!" I snapped through my gritted teeth.
"Don't fight the change. You will just make it more painful for you. Let it happen." Sam said. I didn't understand what he was saying. I couldn't follow because the pain was becoming too unbearable. And then, there it was again. The wolf. But this time, it was different. Smaller, and brown colored fur. And there was no Jared anymore. Just Sam standing next to the wolf like he was not afraid of it. "Shift, Paul. The more you fight it, the longer it will take."
My anger rose even more at his words. And where before I was on the ground, in pain, now I was on four paws, looking at the Uley man in front of me as he too shifted into a wolf. The black wolf.
I let out a howl instinctively, the two wolves, Sam and Jared doing the same.
And then, the panic came through again.
What the fuck, what the fuck, what the fuck.
"It's going to be fine, Paul." A voice, I could hear Sam's voice in my mind. "I know that this is not simple but you need to listen to."
"Fuck no." I had thought that, but from the way his eyes narrowed I knew that he had somewhat heard it too. I bared my teeth at him, following only one thing. My anger.
"Don't." This time it was Jared's voice that echoed in my mind.
"You need to calm down so you can shif back." Glossing over the threat of my growl Sam said.
But calming down had never been one of my specialties. And it was only when the sun started to rise that the two had managed to get me back to my human form.
