ย โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย MONDAY MORNING CAME TOO SOON, but still not soon enough because that would be the day in which Jared invited Kim to our table at lunch. I was feeling a weird mix of excitement and anxiety. It wasn't easy for me to meet new people. It had been easy with Amelia because of the situation we were both in, but Kim, even if she was going to be in the same boat as us in probably not much time, it was still different. She was still just a teeneager living a normal life. There was no supernatural connection, at least not yet, to be used as a way to bond initially.
Lunch period came around with the loud ring of the bell. I passed to my locker first, Amelia was already standing near hers not far from mine, already having put her things inside.
As she saw me, the air witch quickly made her way to me. "Are you nervous? Why are you nervous?" Amelia asked, tapping into my emotions with her empathic gift.
"Because I'm not good with new people." I groaned. Opening up to Mia with whatever problem or feelings that I was having was one of the easiest things to do. Maybe it was because of the connection between witches, maybe it was because I actually liked her personality, maybe because she could understand me easier than anyone has ever done or maybe it was all of the above, but it made sense to me revealing the truth.
Letting out a breath, Amelia said "One step after the other, Trixy. Breath through your anxiety and think of what you already did. We had never talked more than a couple of words before and look at us now. And if you want to blame the coven connection then think about Maddison. She is just a human girl, and still, you were the one that made our friendship possible. Do you remember in the beginning when she felt like she was intruding? You made her feel like she was one of us, you made sure she felt comfortable when we were together and you made sure that she would say her opinion and talk freely." There was not an ounce of sarcasm or a trace that she was lying as she spoke. Not many times Mia would say things like that, something heartfelt and emotional, so in those rare cases, like this one, where she would actually say something sentimental, I had never taken them for granted. "Plus, Kim is not a social butterfly either from what Jared had told us and she will be coming to a table with us both sitting together, and Sam. I'm pretty sure that we are a very intimidating sight. So just do what you do best and think about making her feel comfortable like I know you will do without even noticing it. Kim will be one of us soon anyways."
I finally closed the locker after leaving my things inside, and I smiled at my friend. A genuine smile that made my eyes sparkle. "You are not so bad yourself, Mia." I said with a teasing grin.
Rolling her eyes, the air witch interlocked our arms together. "I know, I'm awesome."
Giggling at her we quickly entered into an easy conversation as we buyed our lunch before settling down to by now, our designated table in the cafeteria. Sam, most of the time, would eat lunch with her girlfriend, but today, he decided to join us. He had his tray filled to the brim with food, enough to feed at least three humans, as he sat down in one of the chairs.
"Still not here?" He asked as he searched with his eyes the cafeteria.
"Not yet." Mia said as she took a sip from her water bottle. "I take it back, they just entered." Our eyes quickly found the one the shifter as he and his imprint chatted lightly as they buyed their food.
When they approached us they both emanated waves of anxiety that almost made both Mia and I wide our eyes at how strong it was. But fortunately, Jared's was quickly submerged by his strong personality as a jokester. His exitment prevailed as he grinned at Kim as he placed both their tray lunches on the table. She had tanned olive-toned skin, her chestnut hair was straight and her brown eyes had a slightly almond shape. She was wearing high-waist baggy blue jeans, a military green short length top with an off the shoulder cut with bell sleeves. Her look was finished with maroon boots, various necklaces, bracelets and rings, a pair of hoop rings and very subtle earthy tone makeup.
"Kim, these are my friends." he said with a flourish. His hand waved towards my brother first. "This is Sam." He then continued motioning towards where Mia and I sat next to each other. "And this is Beatrice and Mia."
Sam was the first one to nod his greeting to the girl wordlessly, Mia following after him. I rolled my eyes at the pair. They were very similar in a lot of ways. Raising from my seat I extend my hand to her. "It's nice to finally meet you after hearing so much about you from Jared." Her smile was sincere, even as her cheeks took more of a pinkish shade as she blushed.
"Nice to meet you too. Hopefully he said good things." She replied with a chuckle.
"Oh definitely." I said with a wink as we all sat down.
"Trixy." Jared wide-eyed groaned. The other shifter and witch laughing at that. "Don't, please."
"Don't do what? Say that for how much you talked about Kim we probably already know her?" I teased my friend, to which he groaned again, smashing his head on the table as everyone else laughed again. This time, even Kim.
"So you talk about me?" She asked with a grin to the Cameron boy.
"Maybe?" Jared replied almost as if it was a question at the same time that Mia said.
"Yes."
"Words of advice, Sam does not talk a lot. He likes to impersonate his 70 year old soul. And Mia can be a bit straightforward with her words, she lacks a mouth filter." I said to Kim motioning boredly to the witch on my right side and the shifter sitting a chair away on my left.
"Don't act like you are a saint." Jared snorted.
Faking cluesness, I replied "I really don't know what you are talking about."
"Sure." Sam mumbled with a deadpan look.
"Drop the attitude brother, it does not suit you." I scoffed before waving a nonchalant hand as Jared mumbled to Kim something along the line of 'see'
"What do you like?" Amelia's question came out literally out of nowhere. Her tone was chilling as usual.
"A lot of things?" Kim replied with a grin and a slight bite into her tone. "You kind of have to be a bit more specific."
The table fell silent for a second before being broken by the air witch herself "I like you."
"Back off." Jared glared.
"Not like that, idiot." Amelia then winked at Kim. "But if she-"
"She, nothing. She is fine. Everything is fine." I slapped my hand on my friend's mouth to not let her continue her phrase. Jared was already starting to shake until Kim's hand fell atop of his clenched one. And Jared, as quick as he had become enraged, calmed down and smiled too brightly.
The not yet earth witch burst out into a loud laugh. Winking at Mia going along her joke even if her hand still was planted on the boy sitting to her right.
"Maddison is going to kick your ass. Didn't she tell you to not flirt with her?" Sam said, his lips twisting into a smile as he spoke.
"Hey, she is going along with it." Raising her hands up Mia replied.
"Sure am." Kim chimed in.
Amelia sent a smirk to the new girl before she turned towards my brother once again. "And by the way, who is going to tell Maddi that?"
"I will." With a pout Jared told her.
"Fair." I shrugged my shoulders.
"What?! You are a shitty friend." The air witch glared at me.
"That is so not what you said early." I teased with a grin.
"Well now I'm taking it back."
"Sorry. You can't."
"Are you two going to kiss or start punching each other?" Kim said, cutting through the glare that Amelia was sending me and the amusement glint of my eyes.
"Probably punching. But later, where we will not get in trouble for it." Amelia shrugged. Punching. Sure. We would probably end up sending elemental attacks at each other. It had happened before. More than once. Not like they would actually hurt, it was more annoying than anything.
"Good to know."
Scoffing at what his imprint had said, Jared then spoke. "Well not good for us." He motioned for Sam and himself.
"Why?"
"Because in the end they send a couple of hits to each other and then start on us because they say that it's funnier." Sam this time replied to Kim.
"That sounds fun." The girl laughed. "I would love to see it."
"Trust me, you will. Probably soon." Mia said with a chuckle. The real meaning hiding within her words that only us four aware of the supernatural catched on. "Do you have any special interests? Maybe something that people would say that is weird?"
Kim faltered slightly at that, clearing her throat awkwardly.
"Don't worry, you are not the only one. Amelia here likes the wind and high places. Like really high, where she has to do an hour of trekking-high to get to it." I said with a teasing tone.
"Can you really talk, Arsonistย ? " With a derisive scoff Mia asked.
"Yeah probably not."
"Uh- I like plants. Flowers, herbs, trees... I love to know how they can be used for things like teas or even for medicinal reasons, I guess." Kim answered honestly, a bit lower with her tone as if she was ashamed of it.
"Well, shit. That is cool as fuck." I replied impressed.
Her eyes brightened up at that. "Really?"
"Yes, yes it is." Mia said with a chuckle. "You shouldn't be ashamed of saying that you like these things because honestly it's really cool." A bit of the distance, emotional and physical, that Amelia placed automatically with everyone, started to dissipate slightly.
The rest of the lunch passed in harmony, between laugh and jokes and trying to get to know Kim better. Even Sam started to talk more with her, and the feeling of complete and utter happiness and serenity that came off from Jared was enough to leave a smile on my face for the rest of the day.

โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย It wasn't unusual for me to dream of fire. I always did since I could remember. What was unusual was for the fire to rage against me. As I panicked through my dream, ivy plants climbed up the walls and to the ceiling of the dark room, the ground shaking. The wind blew harshly, almost cutting through my skin, with tornadoes rushing all around. And I was burning. I was onto my knees, my fingers digging into the skin of my palm as I shouted in agony. And it was only when a scream pierced my ears, one that wasn't mine, that my eyes landed on Amelia. She was kneeling in front of me, her eyes screwed shut, her face echoing the pain that I knew I had written all over my features too.
"Mia." I said with a grunt as the flames licked my skin again. "Amelia!"
As I shouted, the witch finally opened her eyes, tears streaming down her tanned face. "What- Trixy?" Confused, she stammered. "What is happening?"
It seems that the more consciousness we gain, the less the elements would affect us. "I don't know." I said screwing my face again in pain as I felt my skin blister.
Scratching her hand to her throat, panting Mia said "Why this feels like-"
"When we unlocked our powers? Yes." I finished for her. I could still clearly remember those exact moments. They were carved in my mind, the pain, the agony. It was one of the worst moments in my life. And that said a lot.
The floor beneath us, made of soil, like the ground in a forest, shook again. "What is this?" I asked as I took in a handful of dirt.
"The ivy, the soil, the earthquake..."
"Oh fuck." I groaned. My eyes widened as I understood the train of thoughts of the air witch. "Kim."
As I said her name, she appeared, lips stained with soil as she coughed it even more. And then, in a mere second, she was gone. The ivy had withdrawn, the room was still and the floor was now so black that it seemed incorporeal. The fire was now emanating warm waves, not burning anymore and the wind softened to a light breeze as the tornadoes retreated to the corners. The dark room returned to how it always had been.
"Mia." We needed to wake up. We needed to get to Kim. Still kneeling, we locked our eyes together. It was like we didn't need words to be spoked out loud as we latched our hands together, and our magic brought us back to the conscious word.
When I woke up, I was covered in sweat. My palms had still crescent shaped indents in it from the nails from how hard I had clenched my fists. I was panting, loud breaths filling my room. And in a second, I was out of the bed and calling for my brother.
"Sam!" I yelled starting to get dressed. Glancing at my phone I noticed that it was just a bit after midnight, so my mother was still at work. With this new found knowledge, I raised my voice even more. "Sam! Wake up."
A thud came from the room next to mine, my brother's. His quick steps sounded in the hallway until he barged into my room. "What happened?" His short hair was messy from sleep, and his eyes were panicked as they searched around my room frenetically.
"I had a dream or something. I don't know how to explain it but I'm pretty sure that Kim is unlocking her element."
"What? You mean now? How do you-" Scrunching his forehead together in confusion, Sam asked.
"Yes now. And I don't know how I know, but for sure this is a conversation for later. I need to get to Kim and you to Paul." Finally, after finishing tying my boots, I gave my brother, who was still half asleep, a shove. "Now, Sam. We have to go now." I said with more force.
"Are you sure that is happening now?" Sam asked, finally shocking himself out of his tiredness as we jogged down the stairs towards the first floor as quickly as possible.
"Yes, well I mean it was kind of weird. It almost felt like it was about to happen more. I can't really explain it." I rushed as I wore my leather jacket. "We should call Jared." I said just as the horn came from outside.
Moving the curtains away from the window near the entrance, I saw the car outside. Amelia's car. "Mia is here, we are going to Kim's. You should shift and go to Paul as soon as you can. We'll call Jared for you."
"Alright, be careful." He side hugged me quickly, nodding at Mia in her car before running into the woods.
I jogged to my friend's car, she gave me just the time to slide inside before we were off.
"That shit was weird as fuck." She said with a huff, one of her hands moved the hair, that for once wasn't perfect as always, out of her face.
"You tell me that." I snorted, resting my head back on the head rest. I took the phone out and quickly dialed Jared's number.
"He still doesn't know?" The air witch asked incredulously as she increased the speed of her driving even more.
"I didn't have time, okay?" Just as I said that, after the seventh ring, the beta finally answered.
"Trixy?"
"Jared, finally."
"It's literally midnight, what the hell are you calling me for?" He grumbled. He sounded like he was falling asleep as he spoke.
"Go to Paul's house. Sam is already on his way there. Mia and I had a sort of dream or vision, we will explain later but there is not much time. Go, and bring a change for Sam." I quickly explained
"Kim, what about Kim?" He asked as the sound of rushing around was heard from his side of the phone.
Taking my phone in her hands the air witch snapped "We are going there. Now go. Quickly." She cutted the call off, throwing my phone back to me.
"Do you think that they have already-"
"No. At least I really hope not." Mia replied
The rest of the speed drive was done in silence, the anxiety was up to the roof. We knew damn well what would happen if Paul would shift and Kim unlocked her power without having any of us with them. They could kill someone, more than one person actually. Houses could be torn down, a lot of chaos following. It was the worst possible scenario that could happen.
