โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย AFTER OUR DISCOVERY OF THE IDENTITY OF THE NEXT WITCH,ย ย we had called a pack meeting. Maddison had come just minutes after we had arrived at my home, her hands filled with groceries bags.
"Hello, hello!!" She shouted energetically, entering the house with a skip to her steps. She gave us all her signature sweet smile before heading directly towards the kitchen. The tree of us, Jared, Amelia and I, following after her.
I took out an old cookie jar from one of the cupboards, it was hand painted for a new look in a checkerboard type of pattern. Inside of it, were the money that we had all put in for the food and groceries bulls. Shifters eated a lot, and of course, it was quite expensive, so we had to come up with a plan. Every week, each one of us five would put an amount in the jar as funds to be used on the groceries. Since the pack started to grow, there were more times where we would eat together, than otherwise. Maddi's love for cooking has been a blessing. Between the rest of us four, we would've for sure burned the house down at that point.
Taking the receipt from the groceries bags, I looked at the amount of money that the Swan girl had used, before giving it back from the funds inside the cookie jar.
Jared sat in what was now nominated his seat, head in his hands completely immersed in his own mind, definitely thinking about his imprint. I sat next to him at my seat at the table, drawing in my sketchbook while Mia helped Maddi with the cooking after they had put away the rest of the groceries. It should've been Jared's turn to help, but with the situation at hand, the boy was too distracted to do much more than thinking and re-thinking about Kim.
"Why did you call a pack meeting?" Sam said, first thing as he walked inside. He had on only jeans shorts as he had phased into his wolf hours prior to clear his mind, only just coming out from the woods.
"Hi Sam!" Maddison greeted, smiling at the Alpha by her place behind the island where she was cutting potatoes for whatever meal she had in mind.
"Hello, Mads." He replied, giving her a smile that completely morphed his previously grumpy expression. I think if Maddison had any kind of power, it would be making people feel better with just one of her smiles that speak of kindness and compassion.
Sam then proceed to take seat at the table too, joining Jraed and I. He nodded his head in a way that simply said 'Explain'
"When we did the spell to see if we could find out the next pair that would change, we of course recognized the wolf." Mia started glancing for a second in my direction. Probably to see if I would get as angry as I did whenever he was mentioned.
"Paul Lahote" I explained to Maddison as she was still unaware of it. No sparks or fire to be seen, fortunately.
The human girl paused her cutting, she grimaced, scrunching her nose as she recognized the name. "Isn't he the one-"
"Yes, he is." I said cutting her off, rolling my eyes at the thought of the boy. I didn't want to talk about him.
"Oh."
"We didn't recognize the girl. Well, we didn't, until this afternoon." Mia continued as she dried her hands on a towel, now fully turning towards us giving her back to the kitchen counters.
"Jared's imprint is the next witch." I said cutting off the long explanation that Amelia was dragging on.
"Imprint?" Maddison asked with wide eyes "It's that legend true too?"
"Yes." grinned Jared, elated by the mention of this topic. "Her name is Kim."
"Alright," Sam said curtly. "We need to keep our eyes on them. We don't know how much time until they change. You two took three months after us."
"She will be the earth witch, right?" Jared asked me. He was almost bouncing in his seat.
"Are you okay with that? I mean she is your imprint-"
"I'm more than okay. At least I will not have to explain to her that I transform into a big wolf." Jared explained, his grin never faltering. "And not that I want to feed your egos even more girls, because it's already big enough, but you two are really cool with all the fire and air powers and spells."
"You still have to tell her that you are basically soulmates." Maddison added bringing the boy slightly back to reality.
"Jared is the only one who can tell her about the imprint." Sam said as a matter of fact before turning towards Amelia and I with a stern look. "I know, even if you three will share your own type of connection, it's not your place to tell."
We stayed silent for a second before I groaned out a 'fine'. I guess it was true, it was not our place to tell. Jared had imprinted on her and from the legends, that type of connection would beat every other.
"Alright, is this a rule? If one of you imprints on someone only the imprinter can tell of it to their imprint?" Amelia asked.
"Yes. We will make this a rule." Sam nodded his head, but his eyes were shadowed by the thought of imprinting on anyone.
We all knew about Leah. He loved her but with the possibility of an imprint, I know guilt was eating at him since he had not imprinted on her.
For the rest of the hour I helped Maddi and Mia finish preparing the food as the two shifters created a new schedule for patrolling the borders and one to keep all our eyes on Kim and Paul to make it easier for each one of us. Of course, being his imprint, Jared had wholeheartedly suggested for him to have as many shifts as he could on Kim, but as a next witch, it was Amelia's and mine responsibility.
"Food's ready." Maddison announced as she placed the meatloaf on a serving plate. The Alpha quickly rose from his seat, helping the human girl with bringing the food from the kitchen as the rest of us set the table.
"Tomorrow after school Trixy and I wanted to start our patrol." Amelia informed the others of our plan "There are some spells that we can use to secure some parts of the border."
We all turned to the wall where a whiteboard was hanging with the new shifts. It had been a very good buy. Definitely one that will help much more when the pack and coven would grow.
Nodding to Mia, Sam picked up the marker adding us to the board "Then Jared, you'll take tonight's shift opposite to tomorrow." Sam told his beta who nodded at his words.
The rest of the dinner was passed between easy laughs and teasing Jared about his imprint. It were those moments of normality and joy between the chaos of our new reality that made everything much easier.

โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย The following day, Mia and I drove out from the reservation towards the city of Forks. It was only a twenty five minute drive to arrive. We had skipped the last period of school, something that did not bother us in the slightest since it hadn't been the first time for either of us. The drive was passed with loud music blaring from the radio, us singing out loud in shouts with no shame.
I had never had a friend, definitely not one like Amelia. It was like we were meant to be friends. And it actually was. Sometimes, it made me wonder that maybe it was for this exact same reason that I had never felt the need of having a friend, or me not really bonding with anyone else before. But now, with our voices mixing as we sang and our laughs spilling from our lips easily, it was hard to think about going back to have only my brother.
It was easy to talk with her, we were very similar in some ways, different in others but still, I could say with confidence that she was my best friend. Other than Jared. Because whether I wanted to admit it or not, the boy had sneaked his way inside my heart.
"She is so going to kill us." The air witch commented as the song finished. She turned the dial of the volume down enough for it to be only faintly heard.
We had just passed the Welcome to Forks sign, around us, as always, only the forest at the side of the road.
"She will definitely be mad at us." I grinned thinking about the brown haired girl resident in the town.
"And what do we give?" Amelia asked, already knowing how I would answer.
"Zero fuck about it." I said laughing
"We will buy her that strawberry milkshake that she loves from their local diner." Amelia shrugged her shoulders, her smirk wide and cocky as the plan came to her mind.
"And a stack of pancakes with strawberry syrup, strawberries and strawberry ice cream." I added, knowing that the sweet food would probably help with softening her.
Maddison Swan was a sweet, very caring and maternal girl, but when angry, she could be really scary. We found out that giving her these two foods would help her calm down slightly. Even just a single strawberry would help. The girl was obsessed with that fruit.
"We will definitely need those." Mia clicked her tongue on the of her mouth agreeing with me just as she turned the steering wheel a bit too strongly, following the street towards the Carver Cafรจ.
If there was something that Amelia Black was not good at, it was driving. Jared made the mistake of telling her that once, no one was going to do that any time soon. But Sam needed the car to go to work, so me driving was not an option.
"Hello and welcome to the Carver Cafรจ. Table for two?" An African-american woman with pouty lips and curly hair, greeted us at the entrance. The tag on her shirt indicated that her name was 'Cora'.
"No, thank you. We will just order to go." Amelia said, giving the woman a polite smile.
"Alright then." Cora took out the notepad and pen from the pocket of her apron, ready to write down our orders.
"One strawberry milkshake, a portion of pancakes with strawberry syrup, strawberries and a scoop of strawberry ice cream." Mia listed.
The waitress raised her eyebrow with a small smile "Are you the two girls that Maddi started to be friends with?" She asked
"Uh, yes?" Amelia said confused, well, more like asked.
"She is the only one who has this exact order everytime she comes here." Cora said with an amused chuckle "And she talked about her new friends from the Rez."
"Oh well, that makes sense." I muttered with a chuckle "Can we also have one caramel iced coffee and a black one as hot as you can make it with the order?"
"Sure thing. It will be ready soon. You can sit at the counter while you wait."
"Thank you." Both us witches said at the same time, giving the waitress one last smile before walking towards the counter.
As the woman had told us, the orders were ready in less than 10 minutes. We had a bag with Maddi's food and the milkshake and our coffees in our hands as we walked outside the diner towards the car.
Mia drove us outside Forks High School, we waited outside in the parking lot for the brunette and the other students to get out of school. We sipped our coffees, chatting and talking about the spells we had thought about for the threat line. And only five minutes later, the last bell rang. In a school of pretty much almost all white people, two Quileute girls were very much like a beacon. And other than that, it was the fact that us kids from the Rez almost never crossed the line into the town of Forks.
Eyes were on us as soon as the first couple of students started to walk out of the school, not that we cared. Maddison Swan had a harsh glare on her usual angelic features as she spotted us, but our grins never faltered.
"You skipped last period didn't you?" She asked, her hands on her waist a look of disappointment on her face. We couldn't be here if we didn't skip since our schools ended at the same time.
Wincing at her look I tried with the ace in our sleeve "We brought you a milkshake and pancakes."
"Strawberry milkshake and pancakes with strawberry syrup, strawberries and one scoop of strawberry ice cream." Amelia said, adding more information to what I had told her.
Maddison narrowed her eyes before sighed out "Fine, but I'm still angry. I told you girls yesterday that I would've drove to you after school. You didn't need to skip to come here and get me."
"We didn't skip school." Amelia said
"Just last period." I shrugged my shoulders. "And your father is usually the one that drives you to school so you would've to go all the way to your home before driving to La Push."
Maddison rolled her eyes "I want my food." She said. But before she could pass us to get to it, the front doors of the school opened and five teenagers walked out. As soon as I saw them, I knew exactly who they were. What they were.
"The Cullens." Mia stated. Her dark eyes glaring at the five vampires.
Their heads snapped towards us as their last name slipped from Amelia's lips. The disgusted look on their faces said a lot. They could smell the shifters on us. Even if we would've not come in contact with any shifted wolf, our blood would never really call to their bloodlust apparently as written in the grimoire. But Sam and Jared's scent was all over us.
"They started to look at me weirdly for the past month. Grimacing like I smell really bad." Maddison commented, turning around to look at the five 'kids'
"It's because you smell very unappealing to them." Mia smirked.
"You spend too much time with a certain type of person. So you do smell really bad to them." I matched the air witch smirk, enjoying the way the five vampires glared at us.
"Oh."
"C'mon, let's go. You need to eat your food before it gets colder than it already is and your milkshake more melted." I said skipping towards the passenger seat of Amelia's car.
โโโโโโ ๐๐๐๐ โโโโโโ
โฐโห ยท ยฐ . ย "Okay so, there is only one street that leads to the Rez. So the first spell we should do it's probably here." I said as I stepped outside the car. Maddison quickly after me giving me 'the look'. The look of Amelia's driving. The said girl followed after us.
"Alright then, let's get a move before someone passes and see us." Mia said, taking from the back an old bag that was filled with what we needed.
"You do the line, I start with preparing what we need."
"Are you two sure that this is the exact place where the treaty line is?" The Swan girl asked
"Yes." Both us witches replied at the same time without an ounce of doubt.
"We can feel it." I added knowing that she would want to know how we would know.
Amelia created a line with salt mixed with different herbs. We had previously prepared the mix and spelled it with the intention that we wanted. I took out the grimoire, reading the spell once again making sure that what we were doing was right. I took out a clear quartz pillar and an athame, and as Amelia finished creating the line and the circle around us, we were ready to begin our spell.
We sat down on the asphalt, the grimoire opened to my left, the athame on my right and the crystal between us. We interlocked our hands above the quartz, closing our eyes.
The spell was written in old Quileute language, like all the spells. It was a language that no one spoke anymore probably, definitely we had never learned it before. But now, after unlocking our elements, the language came to us easily as if we had spoken it since birth. The words slipped from our lips, one after the other, and we spoke the spell, unnatural wind rose and licks of flames caressed our skin.
Calling our elements and the guardians of that direction was always the first step. Then came the spell itself. To Protect and Defend. To have the knowledge if our enemy had crossed into our land.
We were not strong enough yet for a full barrier spell, for that we would need the other two witches and the Aether element unlocked. But for now, knowing if any vampires would cross into our borders from this street, was better than nothing.
We pricked one of our fingers with the athame, a small bead of blood forming on our skin before we touched the point of the crystal. First, I did it, then Amelia. Red and yellow trails-like-ribbons flowed inside the crystal, dancing together but never mixing. Our essences.
To finish the spell we need one last thing. Our magic essence. Just like we did when creating the pack tattoo, we brought forward a piece of our magic directly from our core. A small flame and a small tornado exited from our chests and posed themselves inside the crystal. Each mixing with our being essences. The fire mixed with the red and tornado with the yellow. Thanking the elements, the guardians and lastly our witches ancestors, we finished the spells. The line that Amelia had created before, was now absorbed by the ground like it had never been there to begin with.
"Wow." Maddison said, with wide eyes. "I saw you two do elemental magic but this was..."
Amelia and I rose from the ground taking with us the athame and grimoire that we again placed back in the bag. The crystal on the other hand, we put it inside a small wooden box that we had spelled to protect it. It was the key element to the spell. It needs to be kept in a safe place.
"It feels different from normal elemental magic." I said smiling as I thought about the spell that we had just done.
"Definitely more draining then elemental magic." Mia added with a slightly pained groan.
"Yup. More than I thought it would, actually." I said grimacing.
"We should probably be able to do just another spot before being completely drained." Amelia said as we now entered her car again.
"Where the creek ends?" Maddison suggested
"Yes, that should be a great spot." I nodded my head.
Hours later and three spots completed, us witches were so tired that Maddison had to drive us back to my house. No need to say that we slept like the dead, falling asleep on my bed only thanks to the two shifters that had placed us on it. For sure, in the morning, a big scolding from Sam and Maddison about overusing our powers was waiting for us.
Before completely falling into the darkness of sleep, I remember the flame in my core brightening.
Because I was not alone anymore. I was where I belonged, with the people I belonged with. Not just a pack or a coven. We were not just five teens anymore. We were a family.
