❝Dance with me until the darkness takes over us❞
•
"Caroline, I'm going to be there on time to help you and put on my dress, I promise." I tell her as I walk to the police station, "I just have to pick up my mom's wallet that she left at the station."
"Good, because Klaus, the big bad wolf, is looking for you." I groaned inwardly, trying to fight the smile, "He's going to be here until you come, I hope you know that."
"Well, nothing is going to happen. Just stall him and try to keep him from me."
"Fine, even though he's in love with you and I'm secretly wanting you guys to date." I roll my eyes and scoff at her words, as I get out of my car. "What, it's true. He's obsessed with you like some lovesick puppy."
"Goodbye, Care." I push, and I can tell she's rolling her eyes at me before I hung up. Originally, Dylan was supposed to be my date, but after all that compulsion, I didn't feel it was right. Klaus was a absolute no because the last time I saw him was when he kissed me in front of my house. He came back the day after, but I avoided him. I guess he knew that since today was some community thing, he knew that I would go. I walk inside the station, looking around for Caroline's mom. When I don't see her, I walk up to a guy who sat at one of the desk, "Excuse me?"
He head shoots up from the files in front of him. "How can I help you?"
"Um, I'm looking for Sheriff Forbes." I smile politely, hoping he'd return it. And luckily, he did, with twinkling eyes.
"Uh, well, she won't be back for another thirty minutes." He told me and I groaned, not wanting to wait that long for a purse. But I couldn't go to my mother empty handed and I couldn't go to Caroline an thirty minutes late. I can't tell who's scarier.
"I'm going to wait for her." I sighed, sitting in one of the chairs in front of his desk. I read his name tag as it said Stone. "Stone?"
He looked up at me, "Yeah. Uh, Jonah Stone." He clarified and I nodded.
"Is your family apart of the founding family?" I asked and he shook his head. He probably just moved here. I pray for him.
"No, just a tag along."
"You just moved here?"
"I've been here for awhile, Ms.Fell." He smiled, and I look bewildered. He knew my name? How?
"How-"
"Like I said, I've been here for awhile." He smirked and my expression changed to a grin, "You're just very busy with your SATs and vampire problems." And that's when my face dropped. He has here for awhile. Why haven't I noticed him and his amazing light brown hair and bright eyes. "You're going to Miss Mystic Falls?"
I nod my head and clear my throat, "I made second place in Miss Mystic Falls last year. It's kind of my family tradition to attend."
"After making second place?" He chuckled and I laughed too, enjoying the clear of tension.
"Sort of. Most of my family either made second or third. Forbes are always first." I explain from our died down laughter. "I think it's from our lateness tendencies."
"Well, I think you can change that." He reassured but I gave him a questioning look, "You can go and get ready and have fun, and come back after the whole celebration and get it then."
"You're not going?"
"I have to protect our town." He stated, and I pressed my lips into a thin line. "Just go. Whatever you need will still be here when you come back. I promise." I nod my head, hesitantly, standing up after awhile of thought.
"Thank you." I smiled and he just shrugged, brushing it off.
"No problem. You'll thank me later in the near future." I raised it an eyebrows, but when he looked back at his work. I speed off quicker than intended, not realizing that I didn't say bye to him. God, he looks so familiar, but I can't figure it out.
I shrug it off and get into my car, driving off. I still had time to put on my dress, since I already did my hair and makeup at the house before my mom called me this morning. She was going to be at the dance as one of the judges again and I honestly hated how much special treatment I was given. I never joined until last year because I was too shy and invisible.
When, I get to there, I rush inside and upstairs to the room I was assigned. When I open the door, there sits Klaus in a navy blue suit and grey tie. I groaned, thinking of how I asked Caroline to steal him.
"We have to stop meeting like this." I tell him, crossing my arms.
"You know you love it, sweetheart. And your friend, Caroline, isn't good at distracting me." He smirked, putting his hands behind him. "You're dress is nice, although I feel it would look beautiful on you."
"It is." I smiled, "Now if you'll excuse me, I need to get dressed."
"Okay. I'll see you down there." I was surprised as he respected my choice, but however, before he left he kissed my cheek. I blush lightly and stay in my spot as the door closed behind me, making me take in a deep breath.
I walked towards my dress which was a grey laced sleeved dress that stopped at the thigh. I picked it out awhile ago, planning for this day. I put on the dress and put on my dark grey slip on heels, checking how I look after. I refix my hair before hearing a knock at the door.
"Come in." I say and Caroline walks in.
"You made it on time, thank god. I thought you died or something." I laugh at her words, shaking my head in the process, "You look so pretty."
"Thank you, Care." I smiled, glancing down at the dress, "Did you bring the necklace?"
"Uh, I kind of lost it." She mumbled and my eyes widened, "I set it down at the table, when I was talking to Klaus-"
"Caroline!" I whined. I had got that necklace as a gift and I told Caroline to hold it because I knew I would lose it. But apparently, Caroline did. "I'll find it. You need to go, it's about to start."
"Alright. I'll see you down there." She left the room and I'm left standing by my mirror, pouting. Just great. That necklace went perfect my dress and it felt like the right time to wear it.
With one last glance in the mirror I make my way down the stairs and into the backyard, seeing everyone out there, but I was only looking for one person.
"I knew you would look beautiful, sweetheart." I heard and I turn to face Klaus with a bottle of champagne and two glasses, "Want to go somewhere quiet?"
I nod my head, "Okay." I agreed and he walks ahead, leading me far from the dance and to a bench. We took a seat and he gave me one the glasses in his hand.
"You never talk about yourself." Klaus spoke, pouring both glasses with champagne. I take a small sip and smile as the drink went down my throat like silk.
"There's nothing to talk about. My story is simple; befriended Elena and soon her vampire friends, making me become the passenger into crazy world and realize I'm death's messenger." I shrugged, watching as he placed the bottle in between us. He took his own sip, chuckling at what I said.
"There's more to you than that, sweetheart." He protested, "What about your favorite song or movie? Or color?"
"Perfect by Simple Plan; Titanic and blue." I answered and he smirked. "How about you? You are a thousand years old, you must of had some affair with Queen Elizabeth or met Alexander the Great."
"I'm not that old, sweetheart." He took another sip of his drink as I did with mine.
"Well, okay. Tell me one moment when you felt you wanted to be human." I insisted and he looked at me intensely, "What?"
"Nothing. It's just I've never been asked that question before." He laughed dryly, downing the rest of his champagne before digging into his suit pocket, only to pull out my necklace, "I figured you were looking for this?"
My eyes widen and I try to lean in for it, but he puts it out of my reach. "Klaus." I said sternly, but he chuckled as I reached for it again. He stands up, making me get up as well, "This isn't funny Klaus!" I stretch my hand out once more, but that only makes my chest collide with his. I look up at his and see his smile was gone and so was his laughter. He leaned in, but I clear my throat and back away, "We can't Klaus."
"Okay, maybe not here." He whispered, "Too many lurkers." He joked and I rolled my eyes and shove his chest. "Come." He takes my hand before I got to protest and leads us farther away. I look back at the party, to only feel Tyler's glare on us. His jealousy is insane.
"Where are you taking me, Klaus?" I asked as we walked back into Tyler's house.
"Where they're aren't too many lurkers." He smirked, pulling me upstairs and into my changing room. He let's me go, only to trap me in between him and the now closed door that I'm leaning against. His hand moves up to my face, slowing moving towards my chin, "Tell me if you want to stop."
And then he kissed me deeply, and this time, I responded on impulse by kissing him back. It all happened so quick; his suit jacket and his tie was taken off and my shoes were kicked off. Tingles were running throughout my body as his hand touch all of my sensitive places.
I gently bit as his neck and he growled, doing the same to me. I let him have control because it felt right even when it's so wrong. He endangered every one of my friends, including myself, but here I am making out with him in a secluded room of a public party.
He's tempting and he's dangerous which is what makes so great at his moment; every touch that lingers, every kiss and bite mark felt so amazing. It was better than anything I had, which is terrible to say when I loved Tyler not long ago. It's just that, currently, Klaus is making every part of me pump adrenaline.
Yeah, he puts me in harms way and makes me feel like every moment will be my last, but all I'm thinking about is this moment because I know it won't last long. Everything we'll come to a halt and soon or later where back to him snapping my friends neck or killing them for sport. And that's why I can't trust him completely; the terrible things he does and how far he's willing to go to get his way.
Without realizing, I feel most of his body lift off me, giving me time to breath. I stare at him and see him let out a heavy sigh, "I never answered your question earlier. I only thought about it once and it was on a trek in the Andes, and a hummingbird flew up to me and just hovered there staring at me," He explains, breathless, "It's tiny heart was pattering like a machine gun.. and I thought 'what a thing, you know, to have to work that hard everyday just to stay alive, to be constantly on the verge of death', and how satisfying everyday must me that it survived," He smiled softly at me, "That was the only time I thought about it."
Is he the monster I painted in my head?
"You probably think that was pathetic." He laughed dryly, but I shook my head, placing my fingers on his chin.
"You're a predatory species, I get that. But you don't have to be a killer because I know somewhere inside that cold, lifeless exterior, there's an actual human soul."
