❝Don't leave me for someone I know is better❞

"You did what?" I exclaim as I drop my spoon into my big bowl of cereal.
My mother paid no mind to my outburst, "I called Carol and told her that you wanted Tyler to be your partner for Miss Mystic Falls."
"I didn't say anything about him, mom." I seethed, calling out her lie, "Why? Why would you do that?"
"Because Miss Mystic Falls is in a few days, and you have no date." My mom sipped on her coffee, her eyes looking up at me, "You haven't been dating anyone, so I just assumed."
I gape at her, but shut my mouth quickly, my figure regaining it's stance, "I have a date, mom." I lied, though she looked at me surprised, "So I don't need a pity date. Call Mrs.Lockwood back and tell her that I said forget it."
"I didn't know, honey." She sighed and I nod, walking away, "What's his name?"
I stop in my tracks and look over at her, before glancing around the house, before spotting a box of Cracker Jacks, "Uh, Jack- Jackson, or Jack for short."
"Do I know him?"
"Uh, no he's not from the founding families." I make up this guy, and she's totally believing it. If it was a vampire, they could tell that I was lying from the jump.
"Oh, well I hope to see him." My mom says and I nod before continuing to walk off, though I go outside instead. I groan loudly and run my hands through my hair, now I have to find a guy name Jack.
I decide to go to the Grill, in need of advice from Matt. So when I get there, I notice him wiping off tables, "Matt, I need your help."
"Hi to you too, Rowan. Oh, how am I? I'm doing fine, thanks for asking." He jokes before, tossing the towel across his shoulder, "Alright, what's up?"
"You don't happen to know a guy name Jack, do you?" I wondered and he raises a brow, "I need an escort to Miss Mystic Falls."
After a moment of thinking, he shakes his head, "No, but I have a friend named Nate, who wouldn't mind going."
"He goes to our school?" Matt shakes his head to my question.
"He actually goes to St.Jude's. The private school, right out of Mystic Falls." Matt explains and I groan, "He's a good guy, I swear. He's better to have as a date then Tyler."
I snap my head over to him, "What are you- He's just my friend. And besides, I'm not talking to Tyler anymore."
"Welcome to the club." Matt smirked, before his manager called him, "I'll text him later and ask him."
I nod over to him, "Thanks, Matt! You're a lifesaver!" He chuckles with a shake of his head before he walks off. I then walk back out the Grill and go ahead to text Elena on going to pick out some dresses, before I heard my name called.
"Rowan! Ro!" I heard and look up to Tyler, who was jogging across the street, looking like he just came from football practice. He seemed out of breath, once he reached me, but smiled weakly, "Hey."
"Hi, Tyler." I say bluntly and start walking off, only to have him follow me, "What do you want?"
He grabs my forearm and stops me from walking further, "I want to talk. I've called you a bunch of times-"
"Which I've ignored." I inputted an he sighed, rubbing his forehead.
He continued to keep his grip on me arm, "And my mom told me you changed your mind about being me being your escort."
"I didn't ask in the first place. My mother set this up." I explained simply and he chuckled.
"Typical," He smiled as I switched from one foot to the other, "So you have a date?"
"Maybe." I look everywhere, but him, "I have to go look for a dress."
"What's his name?" He asked, ignoring my excuse, as his eyes were glued to me.
"Nate, I think. Sort of lied to my mom and said Jack." I chuckled lightly to myself, thinking of my mom's reaction for it, "Matt told me about him."
"Nate Archibald? From St.Jude's?" He bombarded and with a raised brow, I nod. I watch as his whole demeanor changed, "Are you serious?"
"It's not absolute, Tyler calm down." I assure, "Why do you even care?"
He looks at me and seethed, "I don't. We're not together, so why would I?"
I kiss my teeth at his words and toss my hands up, "Then I'm going to go, Tyler. I have things to do." I turn on my heels and walk away from him, going down towards the dress shop, trying not to think about what Tyler said.
However, he was right, and I was clueless; we never made it official on what we really are. We kissed; we hung out and stupidly I thought we were heading somewhere until today where I realized we're not a couple.

"Okay, Ro, I'll be downstairs." My mom informs as she finish curling my hair. I nod, sort of glad that it's just her that's here. I was not in the mood for my dad to be here and strike up a conversation about the only times he saw me as a kid.
My mother soon left my room and I let a heavy sigh escape past my lips. I reapply my lipstick and put on my black heels, already feeling uncomfortable in them. I haven't even put on my dress yet, so angrily, I toss them across the room and shove on my sneakers, before walking over to the door.
I swing the door open and inhale the scent of variety of flowers and listen to the distinct chatter outside in the yard. I look over the banister and watch as people walk around with smiling faces and wine in their hands. My grip tighten before I hear a door swing open see Stefan storm out of Elena's room.
He sees me and I could tell his eyes were glossed over with fury and somewhat fear, which made me raise my brow before he rushed downstairs. I went to follow him, but by time I reached the stairs, he disappeared.
"Rowan!" I hear along with the sound of heels clicking as it hit the tiled floor. When the heels come to a stop, I look and see Caroline. She stood in her green dress, ready to go, "Come on, you're before me."
Hesitantly, I nod and walk back into my room, changing into my dress and aggravating heels before I heard a knock on the other side of the door, "Rowan, it's time."
I responded back to Mrs.Lockwood with an okay, hearing her heels click away down the hall. I put on my earrings and glance into the mirror once more, before walking outside. I wasn't as nervous as I believed I would be, seeing as I met Nate earlier today, very thankfully that he chose to be my escort. I was still confused as to why Tyler got so pissed when I mentioned Nate, and I would've asked Matt, but it didn't feel like the time seeing that they were friends at the moment.
I get towards my place in line, standing in front of Caroline, who was in front of Elena. I get there just in time as Mayor Lockwood called my name, "Ms. Rowan Fell, escorted by Nathaniel Archibald."
I slowly walk down the spiral stairs, seeing Nate already there with a simple black tux, surprised how he found one under short time, but also glad that he did. I smile at him as he smiles back and takes my arm, "You look beautiful." He complimented and I thank him as we walked outside and on the dance floor. Soon, Caroline comes out and Elena, though she's with Damon, which made me wonder where Stefan was.
The song soon played and we silently danced, though in the corner of my eye, I could see Tyler staring me down as I stared at Nate. I tried So hard to not look at Tyler, feeling his eyes move every time I did. The dance didn't last long, which I was glad for before Nate and I soon went over to a small table that had complimentary glasses.
"So how do you know Tyler and Matt?" I asked, choosing to grab a glass.
"We all went to the same summer camp." He responded, taking a glass as well sipping slowly, "I don't think Tyler appreciated my existence, however." I raised a brow at him, as I drank, "I was better than him at every sport in camp."
"And I feel like he didn't take that well." I suggest and he laughed lightly, looking down at his glass.
"Nope, because one day we were playing flag football and he broke my nose." He explained and my eyes went wide.
"And I would do it again, Nate. Without question." I heard behind me and I glance back to see Tyler, who gave Nate a grim smile.
"Tyler, it's good to see you again. Where's Matt?" Nate asked, paying no mind to Tyler's threat.
"At work. He couldn't come." Tyler bluntly told Nate and I awkwardly sipped my drink.
"That's too bad." Nate said, before pointing a finger at Tyler, " I'm surprised you weren't an escort with your father being the Mayor and all."
"Being some escort didn't fit me." Tyler explained and Nate hummed.
"I guess some things just don't 'fit' you after all." Nate slyly shot at Tyler and I gulped my drink.
"We should go dance again. I heard we can make recommendations." I told Nate, but Tyler distracted him.
"I forgot to ask about your nose, Nate. How many surgeries did it take again?" Tyler teased and Nate clicked his tongue.
"It took two surgeries. Thanks for asking." Nate answered, his voice coated with sarcasm.
I huff heavily and grab Nate's hand, before looking at Tyler with a glare, "It was nice seeing you Tyler, but I would like to dance some more with my escort." Without a response, I pull on Nate's arm and out onto the dance floor, only now feeling Tyler's cold glare on me.
