Episode 3 part 2

I keep walking hurriedly towards my room. I change out of my sweatshirt for my combat gear and put on my swords and daggers, strapping everything to my body. I stop my movements seeing my cell phone screen lighting up with messages from Beatrix.

"Dawling's office now!! Let's release Rosalind"

It was just what I needed. Do I tell them or not that they won't get anything?

I finish getting ready and go back to walking quickly through the halls arriving at the office. I feel the girls and Callum are already there.

"This better be quick because I don't have time" The three looked me up and down, surprising the fact that I was all armed.

"What do you think you're doing?" asked the assistant, annoyed "That wasn't part of the plan"

"Bloom is looking for information about Rosalind. We need to release her now!" Beatrix smirked, looking at him with a dangerous glint in her eyes "Plans just changed, Cally."

The same glow lit up in Viperine's eyes causing Callum to swallow hard.

"Who does the honors?" she asked smirking.

My eyes darken and I lift a hand, pulling Callum off the floor.

I let the anger take over me. Images of Saul Injured and bleeding, the last few days with him infected and in pain flood my mind. The lies. People dying. Regret, fear and guilt.  The longing and wanting to have Cassian with me. All of this simmering inside me, and I take it out on Callum.

He starts coughing up something red. Blood starts oozing from his ears, his eyes, his nose and his mouth.

The tiredness of the last few days was decreasing, and I noticed that I started to absorb energy from him. I throw him in the trap deactivating it. He turned pale and paralyzed, and his breathing was so weak that seemed to have stopped.

I try to hide from the girls my nervousness and the tears that have started to form in my eyes. Lucky for me they were so focused on the fallen man that they didn't notice.

I promised I would never do that again. What the fuck is happening to me?

"Is he really dead?" Viperire asked suspiciously, still with a small mischievous smile on her face "Like, is he in the other side?"

"Of course not" I roll my eyes going to him "I won't get my hands dirty with him"

I drag his body making him sit against the wall beside the passage.

"Beatrix, you go down. See how things are in there."  I command with crossed arms.

In silence the girl obeyed me and entered the passage cautiously.

I crouch in front of Callum taking his hand. As a silent apology, I take away the pain he was feeling. After he's relaxed a bit I back away, leaning against the table. I start fiddling with my necklace hoping Beatrix won't be long.

Saul didn't have much time.

Viperine approached Callum and started poking his body. If my mood hadn't been so bad, I might have been amused by the scene.

I bend my body forward feeling my chest burn inside. I let out a cry of pain as the heat spread through my body. I feel a strong pressure on my head and I start to see flashes of the stone circle. Bloom.

She's crying. She is angry and sad.

She turns around and I see Sky approaching her. He was dressed in his combat attire and the sword on his back.

What was he doing?

In the midst of this I see Viperine in front of me and it seems to be saying something. She looked worried and desperate.

I hear the voices of all three at the same time and I can't understand.

The heat in my body started to fade. I close my eyes, take a deep breath and try to focus only on Bloom.

'Why are you wearing armor?'

Sky hesitated before answering.

'Silva is dying. And... the Burned One they killed.. wasn't the right one. It's still out there'  

'And you're planning on fighting it by yourself?'

'Yeah, well,  you' ve not the only crazy person. Besides, I can't sit arond and do nothing. Even Verena left' 

An invisible string seemed to try to pull me into the forest.  Bloom felt it too. A distant voice whispered our names.

Before disappearing, the voice said one more name, Sadira.

'Bloom?' Sky called worried

'You might not have to'  She looked towards the forest 'I think I can feel it. The Burned One, Sky, I think it's in the forest' 

The last thing I see before coming out of the trance is Sky running towards the forest.

I blink seeing Viperine in front of me. I turn to a mirror on the wall seeing my eyes glowing red.

Even in pain I get up and without saying anything I run out of the room.

"What is it? Are you okay?" Viperine asked worriedly as she followed me.

I stop and lean against the wall feeling the burn returning to my chest.

"No I'm not. It's Bloom. She's doing this to me. But not on purpose" I explain getting ready to run again "You go back to the office and wait for Beatrix. When she's out, get rid of him"

Viperine opened her mouth to protest, but a student, a water fairy, appeared.

"What were you doing in Headmister Dawling's office?"

With a groan of pain I try to move away again but I stop when I hear Viperine.

"What about Rosalind?"

"Rosalind won't be free today. It's not you she wants" I jerk my chin in the fairy's direction "Take care of that?"

I don't wait for an answer and leave.

I keep running through the forest until I see the girls and Sky near the Burned One. He was motionless on the floor.

He wasn't dead.

I keep getting closer until I'm close enough to hear them.

"Wait. I don't think it's---" Musa tried to say.  But it was interrupted by Queimado, who got up ready to attack.

I went faster and got one of my daggers and stuck hit the right point to kill him. His body shone illuminating the forest around us. A few seconds later he fell to the floor. And this time he did not get up again.

"No, it wasn't dead" I say getting their attention that hadn't noticed me yet

"It is now" I turn to see Farah a few steps away from me
"Nice aim," She praised me.

I just stare at her and head over the Burned One to get my dagger. After putting it away I turn to Sky.

"You're an idiot. A moron. Irresponsible. Immature. Clueless" with every word I approached him "You could have killed yourself. Do you have any idea how Saul would feel if something happened to you? How would I feel?"

Sky threw his arms around my shoulders and buried his face in my neck. He never hugged me like that. I hugged him back, relieved that he was okay.

"Don't ever do that again please" I whisper in his ear.

He nodded his head without letting go of me. I tightened my arms around him and he did the same.

Inwardly I pray he never scares me like that again.

I let go of him turning to the girls.

"Can you guys stop trying to get yourself in danger?" I ask approaching them. Bloom threw herself into my arms hugging me too. I kiss her forehead pushing her gently.

I see Stella looking at us jealously. I go to her holding her face.

"You did a good job with your magic" I smile proudly also kissing her forehead.

I sigh, looking down at the ashes on the floor.

"Let's hope this is the right one"

When Sky and I arrived at the greenhouse we saw Saul sitting while Ben examined his wounds. He looked better.  Much better. And Ben confirmed it. I've never felt so much relief in my life as I do now to have them right here with me.

Saul noticing our presence at the door got up to scold Sky. The funny thing was that his sentence started the same as mine.

"You, are an idiot" pointed at the blonde.

"I know" Sky wasn't even a little bit sorry

"A stupid, impulsive...1 1 Kept going stopping in front of the youngest.

"I know" repeated and I saw he was holding back a smile.  I didn't hold mine.

"...reckless idiot" We already understand that he is an idiot

"I know. But is it better?" looked at Ben "Porfessor Harvey?"

Ben replied with a smile nodding his head.

"Don't smile at him" Saul said indignantly

Sky pulled him into a tight hug like ours in the woods.  Whenever I look at them I see a father and a son. And I know they feel that way. Mostly Sky. But the guilt that Saul carried kept him from seeing that too.

"Your dad would've been proud" said after they pulled away. 
I roll my eyes at that.

Is it so hard to say "I am proud"?

I approach them, reminding Saul to scold me too.

"And as for you……" I didn't let him continue I hugged him around the neck.

"I thought I was going to lose you" I whisper trying to hold back tears.

When he started to hug me back I pull away and slap him hard on the arm.

"Why did you hit me?" he asked confused rubbing where i hit

"Now that you're ok I can" I shrug and slap his other arm "That was for being an idiot for not going with more soldiers" another slap on his chest "that was for not letting me go before and suffered for ONE week unnecessarily" a slap on the shoulder "That was for giving up and accepting to die" one more slap "And this..." I paused for a second "That was just because I wanted to hit you again" I shrug again.

Saul's mouth was open and he was looking at me with a frown. Meanwhile Sky and Ben who were still with us looked at us with amusement. I see Sky cover his mouth to hold back his laughter.

I pull Saul in for another hug and this time I pull Sky along.

When I first came to Alfea, if anyone had told me that I would care so much about these two I would have laughed and called that person crazy.

Now with Saul and Sky, all I could think about was Cassian.  If he were here, my family would be complete.

As soon as Saul closed the door to our room, I put my lips on his, taking him by surprise. He didn't take long to kiss me back and spun us around pushing me against the wall. I ask for passage and he grants it, encircling my body with his hands.

The kiss that started out fast and wild slowed down and became calmer, more romantic, until it turned into little pecks. Saul raised his hands to my face and pulled away from me when he felt wet.

"What happened love?"  asked worried

"We almost lost you"

"I'm fine and I'm here with you. Aren't I?"

I nod and lean our heads together enjoying our closeness and physical contact.

He gives me a kiss on the forehead making me smile.

"Marry me" He murmured against my head

I widen my eyes wondering to myself if it was my imagination or if it was real.

Seeing my surprise, Saul sighed and slowly pulled me over to the bed. I sit on it watching him take a small velvet box from the nightstand.

He came back to me kneeling in front of me opening the box. It was a thin, delicate ring with a small diamond, similar to the one around my neck. It was beautiful. More tears start to trickle down my cheeks. It suddenly became difficult to breathe, or to think.

"Do you want to know the exact moment I fell in love with you? It was five years ago. When I first saw you in the doorway of that club. Lights flashing in your face making your eyes sparkle. We started talking, we had that amazing night that I'll never be able to forget. For four years I wondered if you remembered me too. If I would ever get the chance to see you again without it being on the news or headlines. Then I saw you training at the palace. And I found out that you would come to Alfea and that we would work together. That was my chance, and I promised myself that I wouldn't give up on you, even though you made it very difficult at first." we laughed together remembering the dumps I gave "Then you gave me an opportunity, and now I'm lucky to wake up with you by my side every day, to be able to tell you I love you and you to say it back. I want a future with you, I want to have a family. I know it might still be a little early, but after everything we've been through these last few days and what might be coming, I don't want to wait any longer. So, Verena Celeste Neith, will you marry me?"
