"What's wrong?" I ask finding Octavian in the hallway. He looked at the teenagers behind me "Wait for me in the office" I command

Octavian waited for us to be alone and pulled me in, trapping my body against his. I hug him back feeling tears wet my shoulder.

"Lilura called" sniffed

"What did she see?" I tense up fearing what she might have said

He whispered the answer into my shoulder. My eyes start to sting and I cry along with him.

"What the fuck is happening to you man?" I hear Riven exclaiming.

My steps get faster, worried they'll start hitting each other.

"No big deal. Just your girlfriend who sexually assaulted me and I think I'm in love with her" Sky replied loaded with sarcasm

"What?" I slam the door shut scaring the three of them "Please say I hallucinated and heard this shit wrong"

"Were you crying?" Sky asked worried

"It doesn't matter. What the fuck is going on with you two?"
I turn to Terra. She cringes a little, "What was that? I understand you and Viperine don't get along, but celebrating like that. Jumping in joy when..."

"She's a Medusa, Verena. A monster." She stands up waving her hands "Her place is behind bars. Or extinct"

Sky and Riven tried to advance. I go in front, stopping them.

I turn to the fairy of nature.

"We both know the real reasons you celebrated. Don't use her species as an excuse. That's disgusting" Terra lowered her head in shame "The party you threw was disrespectful. And now, you're a target for her. You and your family. Pray she doesn't get any of you." Her body shook and her eyes were wide and glazed over me.

I signal to the door. She quickly left the room.

"Blonde explains to me how a girl smaller than you 'sexually assaulted'" I make quotes with my fingers "And you just let. And now you're in love? I don't usually get lost in these things, but now I am lost"

"Viperine came to the boy's shower... and... well..." he scratched the back of his head, feeling awkward. I think I'm going to throw up "And before that she kissed me"

"Oh no man. Not that story again" Riven threw his arms up "My girlfriend didn't kiss you. And she sure as hell didn't chase you in the shower" He made a disgusted face

"He's telling the truth Riven" I say getting his attention "Just like it's true that they were together. At the same time he was dating Stella"

Riven's eyes lost focus.

"How do you know?" Sky asked

"Riven go to your room, take a shower and rest. I'll go talk to you in a little" I ignore the question.

As he passes me, I give his arm a little caress.

Finally alone with the blonde, I cross my arms looking him up and down.

"Repeating his question, what the fuck is going on?" Sky opened and closed his mouth several times. But nothing came out. "Okay. Since you don't know, I'll tell you. First, you're with two girls at the same time. One of them was just for you to have what you didn't have with the other. A fun fuck for you to know what you like. Then you come back with Stella, out of pity. Pity Sky. 'Cause you saw she needed a hero, and you wanted to be that hero" I emphasize the 'You', poking his chest "And now, the girl you were having fun with, came back, threw herself at you, and you just let. Not caring about other people's feelings. And you say you're in love. But you're not. What you're feeling, it's guilt for hurting her" He widened his eyes "Yeah. I know everything"

His face flushed with embarrassment.

"Now, you feel like you need to compensate her for that. You need to give her now, which you couldn't give before. Look at you trying to play hero again. And let's not forget about Bloom. You kept giving signs, looks, for in the end you hurt her too. You like her. But you're in danger of losing an amazing girl just because you refuse to open your fucking eyes"

"That's not it Verena......" tried to justify

"Shut up. You missed your chance to speak. So now you're going to listen." My voice came out deeper making him swallow hard. "You don't know your own feelings. You don't know how to difference them. Do you want to know why? Because you're a little boy who's afraid to face things head on. Because you prefer the comfort of an easy life instead of facing difficulties and learning. Saul said it once and now I'll say it again, discomfort is where growth lies"

"You're wrong Verena. I know very well what I'm feeling"

"Really? So if you're so sure, take a good look at my face and repeat" Nothing. No sound. "You know, I hope you loose them all. Maybe then, you'll learn your lesson."

Before leaving the room, I look at him once more.

"You who always wanted to be the reason for pride, know that you let everyone around you down"

I knock three times before entering. The room was dark, but I could still see the mess.

Riven was lying on his stomach with his back to me, his shoulders shaking from crying.

I approach him slowly and sit on his bed. He turned to me and my heart was heavy at what I saw.

His eyes were swollen from crying. Inside them I saw everything he was feeling

"Do you want me to leave?" I ask remembering all the times he pushed me away and closed himself off to me.

To my surprise, he refused, turning completely to me. I slowly lie down next to him and he hugs me tightly. Like a child on its mother's lap.

"It's okay. You can cry, honey. Put it all out" That's all it took for him to let go.

He buried his face in the crook of my neck crying into me. His sobs tightened my chest even more.I start a caress in his wet hair, whispering that everything is going to be okay, that I was there for him. I kiss his forehead trying to comfort him.

Exhausted, he fell asleep like a baby. A baby I promised myself I would take care of.

I open the door of an old cell in the East Wing. The sounds of my footsteps echoing in the muffled silence.

As planned, Viperine was already awake.

I play with Anakin curled up in my hand.

Everyone thinks she's sedated, that would give us time to talk.

Viperine rose from the gurney, frowning.

"They had no evidence! Why did they arrest me?" she asked upset.

"Your pain was the proof" I shrug

Her eyes dropped to my hand, seeing her snake resting peacefully between my fingers. She frowned a little confusedly.

"They found out I'm a Medusa, is that it? So what? What charge am I under arrest?"

"Students think it's just because you petrified some people. But to Dawling, you're a little monster that she thought didn't exist anymore. And also the fact that you're with Beatrix. But now let's forget about that part and focus on something else. Which at the moment is more interesting to me"

"What?"

"I wasn't too happy to find out that releasing Rosalind wasn't your biggest concern here in alfea" Viperine snorted crossing her arms.

"Releasing Rosalind is your thing" she said "I may have said I would help but she was never my priority"

"Uhm" I grumble with a beak

"The things I discovered only further affirmed how childish and immature you are" hiss "And blind too. Honestly, I thought you were smarter, but clearly you're not, as you either didn't notice or simply ignored it."

"Have I tried to prove be the opposite??" she tried to tease me with a smile.

She's trying to make me think she doesn't care.

"You can go on pretending all you want, but you know I can see what you're really feeling," I say back. Taking her by surprise "You're brooding inside. You're laughing at Bloom and calling her delusional, when, in fact, you're the delusional one."

"For me to be brooding, I had to care first"

I throw my head back, not holding back my laughter.

"What about Bloom? Okay, maybe we're both delusional, but I'm deluding myself out of revenge, Verena, not a high school crush."

"Every word that comes out of you only makes me more sorry. I got into that little head of yours. I saw everything there" I smile evilly "If I can't have Sky, no one can...Pathetic"

"As I said: revenge" repeated

"You've said that to yourself so many times that you believe it now. That's....... depressing" I shake my head "How about we pretend you're an adult for just a second and open the game? Just this once"

Viperine took a deep breath before letting her guard down and finally responding.

"Okay, what do you want from me? What do you want me to say?"

"The truth. Why are you after the Sky? I want to hear you say it"

"I'm after Sky because of what he did to me Verena" revealed "Because it broke me inside and I don't know how to fix it"

"He did and is doing much more than that Viperine"

I look up, staring at her brown irises.

"Yeah, you decided to ignore it. And the price of this illusion that you and Sky are having, is two people getting hurt"

"Hurt? Who? Him and Riven?" She laughed dryly "Please, you don't even seem to know that everyone, for us, is like puppets that we manipulate and control. After all, Verena, don't you do the same with Silva?"

"Leave Silva out of it" I clench my fists angrily, feeling my eyes darkening

"Oh, are you angry? But I'm not lying, am I?"

"My situation with Silva goes way beyond what you think. But back to the point, I'm talking about Riven and Bloom. Do you care about him? Even if it's just a little?"

"Will it make a difference if I say I don't know how I feel, but at the same time I know I have something for him?" she risked nervous

"Want me to give you a light?" I offer "To see if you can find a way?"

"Please enlighten me" she gestured with her hands for me to proceed

I take a step forward, getting closer.

"You like Riven, mainly because he accepted you even with the doubt that you were a medusa. And he didn't tell anyone" I say lighting a small light bulb in her mind "Now about Sky...... Want help with that too ?"

Viperine sighs, nodding slightly. It was a small move, but it didn't go unnoticed.

"He was the first boy who paid attention to you. Who you had your first time with. And that's why you're attached to him" I continued, seeing that she paid attention to every word "You were hurt by the way he ended up with you and don't know how to leave it behind"

"He didn't even have the decency to break up with me, Verena!" she yelled "That's what made me mad!"

"And you don't know how to move on" I softly agree "I have to tell you something about Sky"

"What?"

"Actually just clear your doubts" I see her holding her breath.

She braced her hands on the bars. Few sentimeters between us.

"For you, he was the only one, but for him you weren't. Because while you two played outside the barrier, inside here he was Stella's boyfriend. The golden couple at school" stared at Anakin in my hand. His black eyes staring back "You were so worried about your situation with Sky that you hurt the only boy who ever really liked you. And now, you've lost him" I raise my eyebrow smirking at the corner.

I hold out my hand, Anakin quickly going to curl up on his owner.

Without saying anything else, I walk out, slamming the door shut.

Viperine was a hard head and stubborn. But I know that now, she will wake up.

It might take a while, but she was sure to learn before Sky did.
