Chapter 25 | Ghost World

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Mimi tended to wonder what death was like. Sure she had died probably millions of times but that couldn't be considered real death if she was constantly coming back. The dying that Mira had endured was more of a painful and temporary slumber that she would eventually wake up from and realise once again she would never die.

She wondered what it felt like for the slumber to become permanent. As sad as it was, throughout all the years she had lived she often wished she was not cursed to live forever. Miralette Emberson had spent a lot of time wishing to die.

because despite all she had, what did she truly have to live for? In her eyes she didn't bring people happiness. just hate, torment and fear. after surviving so long and so much, her life became pointless. Sure, she'd hate to leave her brother and friends but maybe they'd be better off without her.

She hoped for death to be beautiful. Despite how morbid such a thing was made out to be, Mimi looked at the beauty of it. To lie in the soft depths of the earth, with nature surrounding her, sunlight shining upon her, just listening to the silence. To have no yesterday, and no tomorrow. To forget time, forgive life and finally be at peace. No fear, no hate, no anger and no pain. just calm, peace and quiet.

Unfortunately for her that was only a dream. A wish that would never come true and she realised that every time she woke from death once more.

━━━━━━━

Groans and sharp breaths could be heard from the hybrid woman as she heard someone repeatedly screaming her name. "Mira!" she felt utter relief when the pain she felt in her stomach disappeared. "Come on, Mims, wake up."

slowly opening her eyes, her hand instinctively went to her neck, remembering it had been snapped as she came out of her hazy state. "Son of a bitch." she murmured, while she sat up from the ground she had been left dead in her living room.

Looking around she found both Elliana and Rebekah staring at her in concern. "You okay?" Ellie asked worriedly as she helped the hybrid girl stand. She only received a nod of confirmation from her.

Rebekah pushed some of her dark hair out of her face as she questioned. "What the bloody hell happened here, Lettie? Who did this?"

Mira breathed heavily as she eyed the stake in Elliana's hands, looking down at her stomach she saw a hole in her shirt as well as dried blood staining it. Coming to the conclusion it had been embedded inside of her after her neck was snapped.

"I don't know," she mumbled.

Rebekah and Ellie shared a glance at one another as they narrowed their eyes. "you don't know?"

"How could you not know?" Ellie asked the dazed woman in disbelief.

Mira pulled away from them both as she ran a hand through her hair, before sitting herself on the couch close by. "I had just come home after helping the Bennett witch deal with a ghost. Then —"

"Hold on," Rebekah interrupted. "A ghost?"

"Could I finish?" Mira flashed her an annoyed look. "Matt Donovan's dead sister was trying to get a permanent foothold in our world with the help of some witches. Apparently those witches want me dead."

"Shocker." Elliana mumbled sarcastically. She knew first hand that Mira never had good history with witches.

She rolled her eyes at the redhead. "Anyway, we got rid of her. I came home and things started happening. I mean look around," she held her arms out in a gesture of the messed up house. "No one but me was here yet all of this happened. Things being knocked over, knives being thrown at my head. Next thing I know my neck is being snapped from behind."

Rebekah and Ellie stayed silent, taking in what she said. "And you seriously think this was a ghosts doing?"

Mimi shrugged exasperatedly. "I have never messed with ghost business before. But the one time I do, i'm being haunted."

Ellie shook her head. "Nope, no way. Me and ghosts, now that doesn't have a very nice ring to it, does it?"

Rebekah squinted her eyes incredulously at her. "You're afraid of ghosts?"

"Please," Ellie scoffed. "Afraid? No. I just don't mess with that kind of thing. I've seen enough scary ghost movies to know not to."

"You're a bloody vampire!" Rebekah noted exasperatedly. "Your life is a scary movie."

"Yeah, but not a ghost one!" Ellie rebutted.

"Pathetic," Bekah mumbled as she shook her head with an eye roll.

Ellie's eyes bulged as her mouth fell open whilst staring at the blond in utter frustration. "Pathetic?! Why would I want to mess with ghosts? hello, they can mess with you and get away with it. it's not like you can see them and you can't kill them. you know why? because they're already dead! They are not people, they are like, I don't know, spirits!"

"Spirits?" Rebekah raised a brow, amused.

"Excuse me!" Mira shouted as she clapped her hands, gaining their attention. "Can we get back to the problem at hand?"

  "Right, sorry," the girls mumbled.

Mira shook her head at them. "I need to find Bonnie Bennett immediately. She is the only one who could have some sort of idea what's going on."

"I think Caroline said something about her, Adelaide and Bonnie setting up for some town event." Rebekah recalled.

Ellie raised a brow at no one in particular. "ok, seriously, what is up with all the events in this town? I thought Addie was exaggerating at first but now I see she wasn't. I get it's a pretty boring town but don't they get sick of it? Do they have nothing better to do?"

Mimi huffed at the redhead as her patience was running thin. "I'm going to shower and change. Then we're going to find the Bennett witch. I also want no complaints."

  "But —"

"No complaints!" Mira exclaimed as she walked away from the pair, upstairs to her room.

"She's extra demanding when she's moody," Rebekah whispered. Ellie nodded in agreement.

Both girls flinched when they heard Mimi scream from upstairs. "I can still hear you!"

"and scary." Ellie added in a murmur. "I might not be afraid of ghosts but Miralette terrifies me to no end." she admitted quietly as the pair began to clean up the messy house.

━━━━━━━

Mimi had made the decision to leave Rebekah and Elliana at home to entertain themselves. They were stressing her out more than she already was and she couldn't handle them.

She had tried to call Matteo but he seemed to still be occupied with the girl he had gone home with last night so Mira decided not to involve him in the latest drama, she'd just inform him later.

"Mimi?" she heard the voice of her best friend. Looking up she noticed Addie, Caroline and Bonnie staring at her as she made her way towards them.

"Hey, what's up?" Caroline greeted her with her usual cheerful grin.

"Hi sunshine." Mimi gave a small smile. "I need to talk to you," she turned serious when her gaze fell on Bonnie who looked taken aback.

"Me? Why me?" the witch questioned in confusion. If Mira wanted to talk to her then she knew it couldn't be good.

Before Mira had a chance to reply, all four girls turned at the sound of a car pulling up beside them. They found Damon in his light blue chevy camaro. "Greetings, blondie one and two, witchy, and scary," he smiled sarcastically.

Adelaide rolled her eyes at the sight of him. "What do you want?"

"I think you got your voodoo wires crossed when you got rid of Vicki Donovan." He said.

Bonnie's brows furrowed at that, glancing at Mira. "What do you mean? Why?"

"Because I'm pretty sure I just got spit-roasted by Mason Lockwood's ghost." Damon stated with clear annoyance in his tone.

"What?"

"Why would you think that?" Caroline questioned, also lost by Damon's explanation.

Damon shrugged. "Maybe because he chained me to a chair and shoved a hot poker in my chest." He glared at Adelaide when she started to laugh. "Let's just say I'm having déjà vu."

"Hold on," Addie interjected as she looked at Bonnie. "didn't you say ghosts couldn't physically interact with people?"

"They can't." Bonnie stated, although she didn't sound completely sure of herself anymore.

Mira raised a brow, "you mean they couldn't. Because I was just coming over to tell you that I too was attacked last night, by who, I don't know, since I couldn't see them. Now i'm thinking Mason Lockwood took a shot at me as well." Although the mysterious figure called her 'miralette', why would the Lockwood wolf call her that?

"Yeah, well, I don't have time for vengeful Lockwood. When I kill someone, they're supposed to stay dead." With that, Damon sped off in his car.

"As much as I hate to agree with an idiotic person such as Damon, he has a point. I've killed far too many people over the years for them to start coming back all angry and vengeful." Mimi huffed, crossing her arms as she thought over how many people she had murdered over the years. Let's just say that list is beyond long, endless even.

"What do we do about this?" Caroline asked as she and the two best friends looked over to Bonnie for an answer. The Bennett witch remained silent whilst her gaze fell onto Matt Donovan, leaving her with one question.

━━━━━━━

"I haven't seen Vicki. I swear." Matt declared after the four women before him grilled him on the matter. "I sent her back like you told me to."

"Are you sure?" Bonnie questioned wearily. "Because she has just as much reason to haunt Damon as Mason Lockwood does."

"She's gone, Bonnie." Matt snapped. "If she was here, I'd know it."

Caroline's brows pulled together as she looked between her best friend and ex boyfriend. "Why do you think it's Vicki and not Mason?"

"Because if any ghost other than Vicki Donovan has a physical foothold on our side, then that means Damon's right and something has gone really, really wrong." Bonnie explained in a worrying manner.

Mira sighed loudly, "and i'm definitely screwed."

"You and me both." Addie mumbled as she recalled the people she helped Mimi slaughter throughout the years as well as her own little list of dead people she killed for many different reasons. internally groaning at the thought of any of them coming back for revenge.

"I've had enough of this ghost stuff to last forever." Matt stated with a shrug of his shoulders. "So you guys can leave me out of this one."

Caroline stared after him with a sympathetic look, "I feel so sad for him. It took a lot for him to send his sister away."

  "Yeah."

Adelaide rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. "He wouldn't have had to send her away if he didn't bring her back in the first place."

"Yeah and we also wouldn't have a current ghost problem on our hands." Mimi added in a tone of annoyance.

Caroline nudged both the girls. "have a little compassion, will you?" She then glanced towards Bonnie with a certain look. "So much strength as a man."

Bonnie narrowed her eyes at the younger blonde. "I've got a ghost problem to deal with, Caroline. Save the Jeremy lecture for later." She went to grab her bag up from the ground but when she pulled it up, the strap came off and it fell open causing her grimoire to slide out of it. The four girls watched in confusion as the grimoire opened by itself.

"Okay, did your grimoire just...?" Caroline trailed off.

  "I think so," Bonnie whispered.

"Alright, you know I wasn't fully believing this whole ghost thing before but now..." Adelaide mumbled to herself with a slightly worried expression on her face.

Mimi turned to her with raised brows. "I told you I was being haunted. I didn't imagine that."

Adelaide shrugged carelessly. "you can never really know with you."

Bonnie shook her head at the two before she reluctantly picked up the open book, looking over the page it was open on.

"Okay, please tell me that's a recipe for witch cookies." Caroline pleaded.

  "Ooh cookies sound good."

"It's a manifestation spell." Bonnie said, ignoring their words. "It's used to reveal veiled matter."

  "What's veiled matter?"

  "Ghosts."

"For fuck sake, I hate this town."

━━━━━━━

Mira followed after the three other girls as they entered the abandoned house. She was sceptical at first knowing the witches despised her but Bonnie reassured her they were no longer present in the beaten down mansion.

"So this is where you brought Jeremy back to the life of the living huh?" Adelaide asked as she looked around, creeped out by the place.

Bonnie nodded as she crouched down on the floor pulling out her grimoire. "Yeah. Sorry, I know it's creepy, but we needed a private place around here to do the spell."

"Hmm. There's no chance it's haunted by the hundred dead witches who were horrifically burned to death in this very spot, is there?" Caroline wondered with a nervous chuckle.

"They're not here anymore. And they made it clear they were never coming back." Bonnie assured her frightened friend.

Caroline breathed out trying to relieve her nerves, "Right. They pinkie swear?"

Mira came up from behind the younger blonde, grabbing her shoulder and shouting. "Gotcha!"

Caroline screamed loudly and sped over behind Adelaide in fear. Both Adelaide and Mira laughed loudly at her. She huffed and glared at the hybrid. "That was not funny, Mira!"

The brunette shrugged, "it was a little."

Caroline huffed at her, shoving Adelaide away from her as she continued to giggle. She and the other blonde then went around, lighting candles before turning to Bonnie who now had Mira in front of her as they conjoined hands. "Ready? Do you need me to do..." Bonnie and Mira just began casting a spell causing Adelaide to nod, "Right. Okay."

As Bonnie and Mira chanted the spell wind began to pick up in the abandoned house, causing a howling noise to be heard and objects to move.

Adelaide and Caroline shared a look as they stared at the scene in front of them. "Bonnie, I don't like this." Caroline spoke fearfully. although her words went ignored.

"Mimi, Bonnie..." the two continued the spell, a purple hue leaving Mira's hands, encasing both hers and bonnie's interlaced ones as they chanted.

Then suddenly Bonnie stopped as she felt a hand on her shoulder. Opening her eyes and turning her head to see someone crouched before her.

Caroline gasped as she too took in the person. "Oh, my God. Is that your...?"

Mimi pulled her hands away from Bonnie's as she was left confused about what was happening. looking over she saw adelaide just as lost as she was.

"Grams."

━━━━━━━

Turns out it was Bonnie's dead grandmother that decided to pay a visit. Mimi now stood beside her friends as Bonnie and Sheila had their moment. Although, not that she was trying to be unsympathetic towards the two relatives, her patience was running thin. She just wanted their problems solved and all ghosts to disappear.

Sobbing, bonnie said. "I can't believe you're here!"

Sheila smiled as she tightened her hold on her granddaughter's hands. "Now stop your crying, we don't have time for tears." Mira silently agreed. The ghost woman turned to the younger blonde in the room and greeted her. "Nice to see you again, Caroline."

Caroline chuckled in shock. "Hi, Miss Sheila."

Turning to the remaining two in the room, sheila's smile dropped. "I never thought there would come a day where I met the infamous Delgado Original. I've heard a lot about you, Miralette."

Mira smiled falsely. "all good things I hope." Adelaide silently laughed at her and the look on her face.

"Sure, we can go with that." sheila turned back to bonnie who continued staring at her in disbelief. "A fine mess you've made, honey. The witches told you there'd be consequences to bringing Jeremy back and you did it anyway."

More tears fell from Bonnie's eyes as she replied. "I didn't have a choice. I love him and I...I couldn't just let him go."

In sync, Mimi and Addie subtly rolled their eyes.

Sheila nodded. "I understand. But you cracked open the door to the other side. There's these old witches over here. They took advantage of it. They took advantage of you, honey. When you did that spell to send Vicki Donovan away, They wedged the door wide open, giving a free pass to anybody with unfinished business."

Mira's stomach dropped as Sheila spoke of these old witches. she knew who they were and it made her sick that even dead they continued to torment her.

"How do you know this?" Bonnie asked.

"Witches talk. Even on the other side. Who do you think makes all the rules?" Sheila spoke rhetorically. "They also rant and gossip. mostly about this one over here." she nodded towards Mira who only smirked.

"What do these witches want?"

Shelia very clearly glanced at Mira as she explained. "That's Original vampire business, not yours." she pointed to the hybrid as she said, "Leave that drama to her and I beg of you Bonnie, do not get involved. I don't want you getting in the middle of that. I'm here because you upset the balance of nature. And it's your duty to set it right. You need to close that door."

"Quick question." Mimi spoke. "any chance these witches might make a surprise visit? I mean if you can show up who's to say they can't. I just need a little warning, that's all."

"One of them already has." sheila said. "who do you think was messing with you earlier?"

Mira's face fell at her words.

"But no," sheila continued. "i don't think they'll be returning unless you and my granddaughter here don't get that door closed. You have someone on the other side keeping them from you right now but if you don't put up the veil to the other side up that person protecting you won't be able to keep them away for much longer."

Adelaide frowned as she turned to Mimi. "Not to be offensive here but who would wanna protect you on the other side?"

Mimi didn't reply as shelia gave her a knowing look.

━━━━━━━

The girls had found out that the old witches were drawing power from an old talisman, which happened to be Elena's necklace, originally Rebekah's. They needed to find it and destroy it.

Mira had left finding the necklace to Bonnie and Caroline considering she wasn't exactly on talking terms with Elena and her protectors.

Bonnie's grandmother asked her if she could bring them one of her old grimoires with hope there was something in it that could help them. Mira didn't ask questions, she just took the excuse to get out of there and away from everyone.

She walked into her house to find that it was empty, only a note left on the table.

'Gone out of town on a shopping spree,
call if you need anything.'
(p.s, we're not happy about living in a small town with no good clothing stores)
-R & E

Mimi could only roll her eyes at the note as she scrunched it up in her hand. They were hopeless sometimes. Matteo had already texted her that he was having a day off from the drama so she knew he wasn't around.

Shaking her head, she headed towards the living room where she kept her grimoires. keeping a mental note to grab a blood bag before she left.

As she walked into the room, she paused. She came to find her family grimoire already out and open, sitting on the coffee table.

She slowly stepped further into the room as she looked around cautiously, as if waiting for something to jump out. When she came to find nothing and no one, she looked down at the book, finding it open on the very last page. Her eyes went to the corner where she once again saw the writing her father had left.

Don't believe them, princess.
You hold more power than they know.
- Love always, Dad

She was beyond confused, no one in the house would touch Mira's grimoire as they had no reason to and they definitely wouldn't leave it open.

Mimi ended up sitting on the couch right in front of the book with her eyes still trained on it, she was a little scared to touch it. Her thoughts were broken as she felt her phone go off in her pocket, pulling it out she saw a text from Adelaide asking if she was on her way back yet.

With a sigh she sat her phone beside her and prepared herself to ignore everything and get back on track, until she heard a bang coming from another room.

Not wasting a second, she rushed towards the noise which happened to be coming from Matteo's room. She swiftly opened the door, looking into the bedroom for any signs of someone. All she found was a photo frame of her and Matteo from many years ago laying on the floor.

She went in and picked it up with furrowed brows, only one thought in mind, 'what was going on?'

Suddenly another noise came from the living room she was just in. Mira could only let out a deep breath, put the photo frame on the bed and head towards the noise once again.

This time slowing down as she reached the room, her dead heart feeling as if it were thumping in her chest. she had a bad feeling but something was drawing her to the living room now.

"Things have become quite complicated for you over the years, haven't they, princess?"

Her feet froze in place beside the door frame as she heard the voice and saw the sight that was in front of her. her eyes feeling as if they were deceiving her while tears filled them. Her hand shook as she reached up to set it on the wall beside her to keep herself steady considering she felt like she was going to faint.

She released a trembling breath before speaking the only word that was capable of coming out.

"Dad?"

━━━━━━━

Adelaide, Caroline and Bonnie were currently at the Boarding house trying to find the necklace where Damon has said it was. Caroline was on the phone to Elena while Adelaide was trying to get a hold of Mira who wasn't answering.

"So the necklace isn't where Damon said it would be and now we can't reach Damon." Caroline told Elena over the phone.

"Listen, I need you to get Bonnie to hold off on sending the ghosts back," Elena said.

Caroline raised a brow while Addie looked over to her, confused as she listened to the conversation. "What?! But you said you were in full support of getting rid of them."

"I was. I am. Look, Lexi's here and she's helping with Stefan." The doppelgänger's words could only make Adelaide groan dramatically.

Caroline squeezed her eyes shut in irritation before replying. "Okay, let's just find it first and then we'll choose between boyfriend ghost dramas." With that the younger blonde hung up on the doppelganger.

Bonnie, who hadn't heard Elena's side of the conversation, stared at her friend puzzled. "What are you talking about?"

Caroline stared at her for a moment, glancing at Adelaide who remained silent. "Um...Lexi's back, so Elena wants us to hold off on destroying the necklace."

"You said boyfriend dramas. Plural." Bonnie repeated as she walked over to Caroline, noticing her hesitant expression. "What is it, Caroline?"

"Elena found your boyfriend kissing that Anna ghost girl." Adelaide blurted out bluntly when she realised no one else could bring themselves to tell the witch.

Caroline gave the older blonde a sharp glare, "Adelaide, seriously?" Addie just shrugged.

"What?" Bonnie said, stunned. "Caroline?"

Caroline let out a deep breath. "I'm sorry. It's true."

"He kissed her?"

"Yep, the boy has a weird thing for ghosts." Adelaide spoke impassively with an amused expression. "I'd be finding myself a new one if i were you."

"Adelaide! Stop talking." Caroline exclaimed in annoyance.

Addie winced. "sorry, bonnie."

The Forbes girl turned back to the teary eyed witch.
"She's got a foothold now, so she probably thinks that she's here to stay." She walked closer to bonnie, resting her hands on her shoulders in determination. "But you and I, Bonnie, we're going to find that necklace. Okay? Okay." She looked over at Adelaide with raised brows. "Did you get a hold of Mimi?"

Addie shook her head, a worried expression plaster on her face. "No, i don't know why. What if something happened?"

Caroline bit her lip, trying to not let her own concern come out. "i'm sure she's fine, she can take care of herself, we know that much. Let's just find this necklace then focus on Mira."

━━━━━━━

"i-i don't understand, how, how are you here?" Mira was struggling to get words out, still very much stuck in place near the doorway.

Lincoln simply smiled at his daughter. "well the veil to the other side is down. I figured we were overdue for a visit. Who am I to pass up the one opportunity i've had in a thousand years to talk to my daughter and explain everything she's been failing to figure out."

Mira didn't speak, she just stared. she hadn't seen her father since the day she woke up a vampire, the last time she saw him he was on the ground with a slit throat, dead. It was a horrible last sight to have of her father. over the years she had slowly started to forget what he looked like, it wasn't like she had any photos to remember him by. just memories, that were disappearing as the years went on. it was disheartening but what could she do?

Now he sat in front of her, dressed in the same outfit that he had died in.

"Look, i know you're in a state of shock but I don't know how much time i have. so we need to hurry this up." Lincoln stated.

"Way to be sentimental, father." Mimi shook her head watching as he stood and held his arms open awaiting her to embrace him. she didn't waste a second, running into his arms as tears slowly started to slip out of her eyes. "I really missed you."

"I know sweetheart, i've missed you as well." he stroked her hair as he held her tightly. "more than you could ever know." he pulled back, wiping her stray tears. "Now sit down, we have a lot to talk about and not a lot of time to do it."

Mira's brows pulled together as she sat beside him, still not understanding what was happening.

Lincoln picked up the grimoire once more, running his hand over his writing. "It's been so long since i wrote this, yet it feels like just yesterday."

"I've only just recently seen it. I didn't even know it was there." Mimi admitted.

The man chuckled. "i know, i've been with you through everything. even if you never knew it."

"Why did you write that? I don't understand the purpose," Mimi replied.

"The last few weeks of my life, I started to see the change in your mother. I eavesdropped a lot on hers and Esther's conversations, only to come to the realisation that Evelyn was no longer the woman i married. It wasn't until the night before Mikael killed you that I finally figured out their plans. The plans to kill you. I tried everything to find a way to stop them, but the two together," he shook his head as he looked down at the ground. "I didn't have the power to go up against them, no one did. Except you."

Mimi stared at her father as he stared into nothing, seemingly going back to those days. "Me?"

"Yes, you. You just didn't know it, you hadn't embraced it yet and they used that to their advantage. Have you ever wondered how you actually became a vampire? Who turned you? Esther and Mikael purposely turned their children but you were never meant to be a vampire, Miralette. When Evelyn and that insane couple...killed you, they intended for you to stay dead."

"The way you're speaking about it, tells me you know the answer to the question i've wanted answered since it happened."

"I had overheard them speaking about turning the Mikaelson children into something unheard of. I was curious about what they had been up to. I had been suspicious of them for a while. I let it go until I noticed the strange behaviour of those kids and the way that they no longer left their home or spoke to you. and your brother. I had quickly gone through your mother's things, knowing all of her hiding spaces. It wasn't hard to find where she had hid the page that contained the spell of how to turn a human into a vampire, there was also a vial of the Petrova blood that was needed."

"It didn't really have any use to me, up until I had overheard their plans for you. When I realised they wanted to murder you, I had no time to figure out a different way to save you. I had plans to run, leave your mother and take you and Matteo away from her and that cruel Mikaelson woman. Unfortunately i couldn't do that either, Evelyn was watching me, waiting for me to make the wrong move. I couldn't go up against them on my own, Esther and Evelyn had too much power between them, especially with the dark magic they were practicing. I had no other choice, so I did what I needed to do."

Mimi stared hard with raised brow. "you had the spell of vampirism. Please tell me that doesn't mean—"

"I'm the reason you're a vampire." he admitted. "I spent all night conveying up the spell. The main ingredient being the petrova blood. The morning everything happened I slipped it into your drink. I didn't know if it would work, all I could do was hope. Then that night, The night you died. Niklaus came to me, told me what happened between you two, how he had ended things with you and left you in the woods alone. Matteo and I went looking for you, then your mother found me, told me that you had gone home. So I stupidly went back. Me and Evelyn returned home and neither you nor matteo could be found. But before I even had time to question your mother, my throat was slit open."

Mimi covered her mouth, more tears escaping. "Evelyn? Evelyn k-killed you?"

"Well she helped, when I woke up on the other side I saw both Esther and Evelyn standing over my body, even those closest to you will turn on you in a blink of an eye." Lincoln himself let a tear fall. "I woke up on the other side and I had to watch as they cornered you and killed you, without being able to do a thing." he spoke angrily. "I wrote this only that day," he said, talking about the writing in the grimoire.

"But that is not what i'm here to talk about." he closed the grimoire, putting it on the table. then he turned to Mira and put his hand on top of hers. "Your powers, Miralette. I need you to understand them."

"What about them?"

"As you know, as a vampire your powers are supposed to be no more. and you've spent the last ten centuries struggling with them. The night you died was also the night Niklaus broke his werewolf curse and the next night Mikael made Esther perform the spell that suppressed that side of him. Causing him to never be a full hybrid. But that is not all she did. Now Esther and Mikael, they knew by then you were a vampire yes?"

Mira nodded. "Yes, i woke up a vampire all alone and Evelyn appeared. I-I accidentally killed her. I then took off to find someone so i went home and that was where i found your body. Mikael and Esther showed up and had Matteo hostage, they told me the Mikaelson siblings had ran, leaving without a care for me and they threatened to kill Theo if I didn't leave and stay away from their children."

Lincoln hummed. "I remember," he spoke bitterly. "and they made you give them your blood didn't they?"

"How do you know that?" Mimi stared at him puzzled.

"Like I said, i've been by your side through it all." he smiled before it fell. "Esther used your blood the night she put that curse on Klaus, to put the curse on you."

"So it's true? I've been cursed just like Klaus this whole time?" Mira questioned in disbelief.

"yes, that's why when Klaus broke his curse, it also broke yours. Your powers have no longer been locked away since the night he killed the doppelgänger."

"and you know this because you've seriously been on the other side watching me for a thousand years?" Mimi asked with a humourless chuckle.

"someone had to keep and eye on you. As well as keeping your incessant and persistent mother from trying to kill you." Lincoln mused.

  "Is she really still trying?"

"I'm afraid she and Esther have never stopped. they have plans to kill you and those Mikaelson's that you found your way back to." He rolled his eyes as he spoke of the mikaelson's. "Why do you think all witches and their dead ancestors despise you so much? your mother and esther have been in their ears all this time feeding them information about you and your magic."

"Of course they have," she shook her head, not surprised. "So, does that mean you know how i'm also a vampire and a witch hybrid?" Mimi asked hopefully, wanting the one answer she's always needed.

Lincoln grinned softly at his daughter. "Mimi, princess, you are not a hybrid, you are a heretic."

Mira raised a brow, "Sorry what? A heretic?"

"I mean sure, you're a vampire-witch hybrid but they're not calling you that, my dear girl. They call you the original heretic."

"The Delgado witch line goes back beyond 2000 years. A long line of not just normal witches and warlocks but also a line of chaos witches. Every once in a few hundred years a delgado will not hold the regular witch power, they hold what has been known as chaos power. Nature deemed witches to be their servants and considers vampires to be abominations of nature, witches cannot retain their magic as a result of their immortality. It's a pathetic loophole, as they call it."

"Nature's belief is that having the supernatural abilities of both species would be an enormous imbalance of power for which it could not stand. As a result, one cannot be both a witch and a vampire, and those witches who die with vampire blood in their system lose their connection to magic when they wake up in transition. But your magic has no connection to nature. Chaos magic is an unbalance in itself. An aberration if you will."

"I don't get it. Are you saying I have Chaos magic?" Mimi wondered, trying to put the pieces of the puzzle together.

"You're a chaos witch, Miralette. A chaos witch with her full powers, which is rare. Esther had done her best to lock that part of you away, the ritual she performed after you died was to try and dormant your powers and she succeeded, slightly. Esther didn't have enough power to take away your magic completely, that's why you've had a little magic over the years and it's just been trying and trying to break through as time went on.

The last time a chaos witch had her full magic dates back to almost 2000 years ago. Your ancestor, your great great great and so on, grandmother. Tallulah Delgado. She was the beginning of the chaos magic curse. She was different, she was a siphoner and she used her magic to hurt people, creating a lot of enemies. She was power hungry, absorbing magic from witches around the world, killing covens and covens. A powerful coven of siphoning witches came together to put an end to her. Siphoning her own magic and killing her with it."

"Many believed the Delgado line ended with her but what they didn't know was that she had two children out of wed-lock, twins. Annette Delgado. Annette was just a regular Delgado witch but she continued the Delgado line. 500 years after Tallulah's death, Cecilia was born a chaos Delgado witch. There was a prophecy that Tallulah created, 'only those worthy carry the magic of chaos.' it is said that those were her last words uttered before death took her."

"After Tallulah and Cecilia, there were two more, a chaos witch and a warlock. Then came you. For centuries there has been a chaos witch or warlock born randomly. Marianne, your grandmother, who had no powers at all, she was just human. Marianne gave birth to your mother, Evelyn. Evelyn had magic but the regular kind."

"your mother didn't know much about her ancestors or the term 'Chaos magic'. She knew what it was but it had been so long since a delgado had gain such power, it was believed there would never be another. We had no idea that either of our children could possibly gain such a thing. Until we met Esther who seemed to know everything there was to know about the Delgado coven. She was the one to explain the strange birthmark upon your wrist."

Lincoln ran his finger over the small marking on Mira's wrist. She had it since birth and had never thought anything of it. "This is related to my magic?"

"It's how you know if you have the chaos magic. you have the marking. Your mother didn't have it, neither did your brother but you did. Only difference is you're the first Delgado to become a vampire. When the ancestors realised the Chaos magic had continued with Cecilia, they were forever trying to kill the Delgados to stop it. They failed almost every time, in doing so, they settled for putting a curse on the Delgado line. If a chaos witch is born they will never be able to use their full powers. Forever feeling incomplete with themselves as half of their power will be locked deep inside."

"But when you died and became a vampire, that curse was broken somehow. You were finally complete until Esther went and put another curse on you without you even knowing."

"The curse on Klaus." Mimi mumbled.

Lincoln nodded in confirmation. "Now, that curse has been broken. Your magic is going to slowly come forth more and more. To the point where you may start losing control. Mimi, you need to be careful."

  "What do you mean?"

"I can't even really be sure. This is just what the ancestors have been saying. All i can say is be careful." He said firmly. "Chaos magic is a special form of siphoning magic. have you heard of siphons?"

"A little."

"Well because siphons never have their own magic, they are able to keep it when being turned into vampires and self siphon themselves. Chaos magic became a thing because Tallulah Delgado siphoned an heirloom with dark magic in it, it gave her the power to alter realities and control various forms of mystic energy. It became a part of her and she continued to pass it on through her bloodline to those worthy of it. The purple energy that comes from you is pure mind power."

"What else do you know?" Mimi asked, wanting to know more.

"Not much, Esther was the one with all the details, she's the one who told your mother. We didn't know about the birthmark until she informed us. Once your mother learned she didn't gain the chaos magic, she took it as her 'not being worthy', she didn't like that. So she grew envious of you, and the fact that you didn't even know. You had no idea of the power you had and she didn't think you deserved it. Esther convinced her that she did. They couldn't take it from you though, so they settled for murdering you."

━━━━━━━

Mimi shook her head, standing up and walking towards the fireplace. "This is all too much. I, I can't even comprehend this."

"I know it's a lot to take in. But i had to take this opportunity to tell you everything I could with the chance I had. Now you can look into it, Mimi. You can figure it all out and find yourself again."

"What do you mean find yourself? I know who I am, father." She scoffed.

  "Do you?"

"What is that suppose to mean?"

"Miralette, I have watched you all this time. I've seen you try to avoid all your trauma and pain, hiding from those Mikaelson's to keep Mikael from hunting down you and Matteo. Even without magic you've made a name in the supernatural world as one of the most evil beings and yet you have so much that you're afraid of. But that's not who you are, you are not Mira Delgado deep down, You're Miralette Emberson. You think because you're a vampire and everything Esther and Evelyn have put into not only yours but the witch's heads that the girl you used to be isn't allowed to exist. You think all you bring people is hatred and torment. That's not true. Matteo, Elliana and Adelaide think the world of you. They would give you the world if they could. The mikaelson's love you so much that even though you've let them believe you were dead all this time, they still forgive you because forgiving you means keeping you in their lives."

  "Why are you saying this?"

"You have so many people that love and care about you. You aren't alone, sweetheart. and despite what you believe you don't deserve to be." he expressed.

Mimi felt tears begin to spill again and she just wanted to scream at the world. "I feel like i'm living in circles, papa. I have to suffer with living forever. I've seen all there is to see, done everything there is to do. I'm exhausted, i'm drained. I don't want to be some powerful being, I don't want people to be scared of me and I don't want to constantly wake up from death. I just want it all to stop."

Lincoln sighed as he walked towards her and grabbed her hands, forcing her to look at him. "I know, I know that. But you can't. You can't make it stop. You've been alive for so many years, Mimi, and yet not once have I ever seen you living. You've simply just been surviving. You have to let yourself live, or at least try to. Let yourself be happy. Don't worry about power or enemies or being feared."

"How do I do that?" she cried.

"For a start, it's time for you to really let those Mikaelson's back in your life. As much as it pains me to say it, they're your family. I know they know you're alive now and they're back in your life but have you truly let them in?"

"I haven't let anyone truly in, in a long time."

"Exactly! It's time for you to start. I remember when you and Niklaus began to fall for each other. It was dreadful for me. The small glances, the shy smiles, the longing stares, the flushed cheeks. I noticed everything. And I hated every second of it. But I knew your love for one another was true and pure. That was all I wanted for you, a real love. I've watched you avoid and hide from him for a thousand years, Miralette. But I knew eventually you would find your way back to him. That's how soulmates work."

"soulmates?" Mira laughed in a humoured manner, thinking he was joking.

Lincoln rolled his eyes. "yes, sweetheart. I for one know for a fact that Niklaus Mikaelson is your soulmate. for soulmates always end up together. No matter how long they've been apart, how much love was lost or how much distance you put between yourself and him. You know that it is meant to be if you lose each other and find your way back to one another. You and him were destined to end up together."

"You don't know what you're talking about."

"I never really do, huh." he said halfheartedly. "But eventually you have to accept letting him in, it's the start of you living your life. You two have loved each other this whole time, while you were apart. Even when he thought you were dead, he still loved you."

"I don't want to have this conversation with you." Mimi sighed pensively as she diverted her gaze from him and pulled away.

"Fine," Lincoln huffed. "I'll let you figure it out for yourself. hopefully that's sooner rather than later."

  "Please stop.

He laughed loudly. "Alright, alright." He suddenly looked around as if seeing or feeling something before smiling sadly at his daughter. "Looks like that Bennett witch is finally closing this door. Thank god, do you know how hard it is to keep two witches away from trying extremely hard to harm my daughter." he tried to joke but Mimi didn't find it funny.

"No, no, no. you can't leave, not now." she cried once more. she hadn't cried so much in a long time, she felt pathetic. Weak.

"Don't you see. This was a chance to get the goodbye that we never got before."

"I don't want to say goodbye."

"I know, but we have to. My beautiful girl," Lincoln let another tear fall while pushing his daughter's hair out of her wet face. "I'm so proud of you, despite whatever you think, I still see that warmhearted, loving girl I knew all those years ago. You will never fully be that girl, I know that. But she continues to live inside of you. You, Miralette, are one of a kind. With this magic you have. There have only been 4 chaos witches before you and you are the second to have your full powers, the first to be a vampire. You have never once disappointed me. Neither you nor Matteo. I'll always love you both and i'll forever keep my eye on you two, protecting you at every chance I can get."

Mimi sobbed out, clinging to him. "We love you too, papa. thank you for everything you've done for me and continue to do even in death."

Lincoln let out a shaky breath as he continued to smile through his and his daughter's pain. "You don't need to thank me for that. I'm your father, it's what i'm meant to do. I'm just sorry i couldn't save you back then, it's always been my biggest regret."

Mira swallowed harshly before she shook her head. "That's not your regret to have, you did what you could and that's all that matters."

Lincoln only nodded, wrapping his arms around his baby girl one last time. "Tell Matteo something for me, will you?

"Of course."

He whispered in her ear and Mira couldn't help but smile through her tears as she nodded.

"Now close your eyes, princess." Mimi did as she was told, digging her head into her father's chest.

  "Good luck, my girl."

When Mimi opened her eyes she was met with nothing, he was gone and silence surrounded her. She fell to the ground in tears with sobs escaping her.

  "Goodbye papa."

━━━━━━━

"Hello" Matteo called out as he came into the house. "Anyone home? Everyone's favourite person is back."

He looked around the house, not hearing a thing. It was only when he walked into the living room, he was met with an unusual sight.

Mira was on the ground with her knees to her chest, tear stains on her cheeks, staring at the wall in front of her blankly.

Matteo frowned deeply, cautiously walking towards her. "Mims? What the fuck is going on?"

Mimi leisurely looked up at her older brother with dark, sad eyes. "He's gone."

Theo's brows furrowed as he sat beside her. Not wanting to touch her, considering he knew when she was like this as a little girl she didn't like being touched. "Who's gone, sis?"

"Papa."

Matteo was confused. He knew ghosts were getting around Mystic Falls from the texts he received from mira earlier on. He also got a text from adelaide telling him Mira had disappeared and wasn't answering. But never would he expect for his father to make an appearance.

"Dad was here?"

"He came to see me while the veil to the other side was down and now it's been closed and he's gone, Theo." she started to cry again, letting her head fall onto Matteo's arm.

Theo sighed sadly as finally understood what happened, wrapping his arm around his sister and pulling her closer to him, resting his head on her own. "what did he say?"

"So much and yet it still felt like it wasn't enough. and then he just disappeared, he was gone once again. Stuck on the other side all alone watching as we go on with life and not being able to live it with us."

"Death is a fucking bitch, isn't it?"

Mimi couldn't help but chuckle along with her brother. More thankful for him than ever. Mira had a small group of people in her life that was always there for her. But the one consistent that was around her whole life has always been Matteo. With all the ups and downs, it was always Theo that she felt safest with, out of anyone. He was her big brother, the one person that never stopped reminding her that he was the one that was supposed to protect her, not the other way around.

"He wanted me to tell you something?"

"Oh, yeah? What's that?"

Mimi reached up and whispered in his ear, as he listened to his words all he could do was laugh with tears in his eyes.

"You gotta love the old man, don't you?" Matteo mused softly.

"You really do. I'm sorry you didn't get the chance to see him."

"Don't apologise, I honestly don't think I could handle it. I couldn't deal with being reunited just to say goodbye." Mimi didn't reply, only nodded in understanding before they fell into a comforting silence. After a moment of quiet, matteo nudged her. "hey, you know you're stuck with me right?"

Mimi grinned. "forever?"

"until forever is over."
