xxiv. back from the dead

Chapter 24 | her new life

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

When Miralette was young, she adored her mother. The woman was everything to her. She was the perfect example of what a mother should be. She nurtured Mimi, taught her, dressed her, fought for her, held her and loved her unconditionally.

But everything began to change when the Mikaelson family moved into their village and Evelyn befriended Esther.

The difference in her mother didn't happen overnight. It gradually happened more and more over time. At first it was little things until it became so much bigger. The first time Mimi had ever been scared of her mother — the first time Evelyn acted out at her daughter was when Miralette was all but 12.

Mimi had her magic since the age of six, that was when she first tapped into it. Evelyn had been thrilled at the time to be able to teach her daughter magic. Only she stopped helping her when she was 11. Mimi's father had his magic, being a warlock and all, but he didn't practice it often, that was why teaching was left to Evelyn.

When Mimi was twelve she stole her mothers grimoire, wanting to practice. Evelyn quickly realised this and found her daughter with it, she was extremely angry. More furious than Mimi had ever seen and to say it terrified the young girl would be an understatement. She had never been spoken to by her mother in such a way. Evelyn never cared when Mimi used her grimoire before and she had no idea why this time was different.

At 13, Evelyn had caught her daughter wielding a sword as she messed around with her brother, Kol and Niklaus. This led to the woman dragging her away from them as she reprimanded her for it. This day was the first time Miralette talked back to her mother. She didn't just take it for once and that only fuelled Evelyn's fury. And for the first time, Evelyn had hit her daughter, striking her across the face.

And as Mimi held her cheek whilst she stared at her mother with tears in her eyes, they both looked in disbelief at what the woman had done. This was the day a young girl felt hated by the very person that was suppose to love her more than anything.

But in Evelyn's eyes, she did not mean to hate her, or maybe she didn't even know she did at the time. Though it came to be that it was never hate that Evelyn Delgado held for her youngest child and only daughter, it was resentment and jealousy. That was all thanks to Esther Mikaelson. Unfortunately those two feelings are far uglier then hate could ever be.

Mimi hid it from everyone. Not even her father or brother knew that her mother would some times use physical abuse on her when she didn't do something to Evelyn's liking. In all fairness they hardly knew how bad the verbal abuse was. This went on for six years. She kept her mouth shut, taking what she started to believe she deserved. She often found herself staring into her mothers eyes, hoping to find the warmth and love that they held when she was a child, but all she would find was just a dark and cold storm swirling in them. A storm Mimi felt she created.

The worst part about those eyes was that even years later when it was all over — Evelyn was dead and Mira was a vampire. Every time she looked into the mirror she found those same eyes staring back, haunting her with cruel childhood memories.

Once upon a time a little girl thanked her mother for the life she gave her. But on one fatal night that girl, now a woman, came to the realisation that she was thanking her mother for giving her the life she desperately wanted for herself. Mimi had the one thing Evelyn wanted.

  The Delgado power.

Flashback; 1001

In the middle of the woods laid the body of Miralette Emberson. A bright girl with a full life ahead, now just a lifeless body that would only live on in the memories of those who loved her.

A girl who didn't leave the world peacefully but was betrayed in the last moments of her life. Only her story was far from over as that lifeless body let out a loud gasp while her eyes shot open.

Mimi laid there, taking deep breaths that were no longer needed, yet she felt so suffocated. She felt as if she had been pulled under water and her time was running out but by some miracle she had been dragged to the surface, now she was struggling to get the water out of her lungs.

Then the memories hit her. All of it came rushing back, the fight with Nik, the running through the woods and the sword through the stomach. Dying. She died. Her right hand shot up and laid upon her stomach, feeling for some sort of wound from where she was impaled. Yet she found nothing.

Mimi willed herself to sit up, now with her brows creased together. She looked down and saw the blood covering her dress on her abdomen, the slice in her outfit where the sword stuck through her.

'I died,' continuously repeated in her head. but she was failing to comprehend it. She looked at her surroundings, realising she was exactly where she was when she laid in Niklaus' arms as everyone surrounded them watching as she slipped through their fingers. Now everything was as it was, except she was alone. No one was around.

As she looked at her surroundings she came to the conclusion that something was incredibly off. She could hear birds chirping as if they were right beside her, everything seemed to be clearer through her eyes and she could smell a hundred different things. The sun that was slowly setting seemed to feel hotter on her skin.

Mimi groaned as she pushed herself to stand, wobbling a little as she regained the strength in her legs. She didn't understand what was going on but she figured she was in some sort of afterlife because that was the only thing that made sense to her. She felt different though, intensified even.

"Oh my god," someone gasped.

Mimi spun on her heels in fright. Only to wish that she hadn't when she saw who stood behind her.

"Mother," she whispered out in a croaky tone.

Evelyn Delgado stood there with a horrified expression. Her eyes were wide, mouth agape and the grimoire she previously held in her hands was now lying on the ground.

Miralette felt recognition as she stared at her mother. Mikael, Esther and Evelyn. All three of them had corned her, they killed her. 'I died,' she remembered again which caused confusion to set in. If she was dead, how were her and Evelyn seeing each other in that moment?

"It's not possible," Evelyn murmured to herself though Mimi heard loud and clear.

"What," Mimi stammered, "what is going on? I thought - I'm suppose to be dead."

This made Evelyn realise her daughter had no idea what was happening. She didn't know what she was. The woman sighed as she pinched the bridge of her nose in irritation whilst she herself came to the conclusion of what had gone on. It wasn't suppose to go this way, Miralette was meant to be dead right now. She was just coming to get rid of her body. Now she was face to face with her all over again. Only this time Mira was an in transition vampire. She had no idea how this had happened.

"I think," she cleared her throat. "I think you are dead, sweetheart." Evelyn smiled at her bitterly.

Mimi narrowed her eyes at her. "You. You did this," she gestured to her the dried blood that coated her hands and stomach. "You killed me."

Miralette was never one to get immensely angry. She'd get frustrated but even then she'd rarely raise her voice, especially at someone. But for some reason still unknown to her she felt anger she had never felt before. It was like a murderous feeling.

Evelyn rolled her eyes, "technically Mikael killed you. I just stood and watched."

Mimi gave her a look of utter disbelief. She didn't even care, she was proud of the part she played and that hurt Mimi more than having a sword impaled into her stomach.

She was close to letting her frustration get the better of her but her need for answers took over. "How are you seeing me right now? What is going on? Are we both dead?"

Evelyn hesitated as she went to reply to the younger girl. Unsure of what to tell her. As of right now what she thought had cause Mira to wake up was only a theory, she couldn't be sure but she decided to tell her anyway. Mostly because she wanted to scare her. To say she wasn't happy that Mimi was alive once again would be an understatement. Having seen her daughters dead body hadn't changed her feelings towards her. She was still the selfish bitch she had always been.

"I'm not dead. In a way you still are though. At least that's what I think," she replied.

"What are you saying?"

Evelyn sighed deeply, "you, my darling daughter are currently an in transition vampire."

"Come again?" Mimi mumbled with wide eyes. It wasn't possible, evelyn had to be playing a sick game. "You cannot be serious."

"Of course to complete the transition you have to drink blood but you won't need that because i'm going to kill you." Evelyn rolled her eyes as she said, "again. Only this time it'll be permanent so no need to worry."

Mimi brought her hands up to her head as she squeezed her eyes shut, "stop talking." Evelyn continued to mumble to herself as she searched through her grimoire. Unfortunately for her that only angered her daughter who screamed, "Stop talking!"

In that moment both Emberson woman witnessed the impossible happen as Evelyn was thrown back into a tree, hard. Mimi's mouth fell opened as she watched her mother tumble to the ground. She looked down at her hands, knowing deep down that she had been the one to do that.

She stood frozen, wondering if Evelyn was still breathing or not. Only to let out a breath when she heard the woman groan in pain. She watched the woman let out a small cry as she rested her fingers on her forehead.

Mimi's relaxed posture faded away as she watched as Evelyn pulled her hand back from her face with a crimson red liquid coating her fingers. It didn't register to the young girl why at the time, but the sight of the blood caused her to tense. Her soul focus was on the substance.

Evelyn's own eyes widened at the sight of her blood and her gaze snapped to her zoned out daughter. "No," she whispered as she watched Mimi's expression darkening.

Miralette didn't know what it was but she couldn't stop herself as she slowly walked towards her injured mother. She couldn't even comprehend Evelyn crawling back away from her as fast as possible and she didn't notice the horrified look on Evelyn's face when she bumped into a tree leaving her with no where to run. Mimi only cared about one thing even though the thought of it made her sick and that was the blood.

"Mimi, sweetheart," Evelyn's scared voice tried to snap her daughter out of her trance. "You don't want this. You don't want to do this."

Mira's angry eyes snapped into Evelyn's tearful ones, "I don't even know what this is. All I know is that it's because of you. It's all your fault."

Evelyn had never once seen Mimi so angry. She was feeling too much at once and it was no doubt heighten and she didn't even know it.

The older woman went to raise her hand to use her magic and the motion caught Mira's attention causing her to bend down to where Evelyn was sat up against the tree and take ahold of her wrist with a tight grip.

"Don't do that," Mira glared.

Evelyn would have rolled her eyes had she not been in pain. She didn't need her hands for magic. She focused on Mira and said, "motus." Yet, nothing happened. Mira wasn't fazed and Evelyn was beyond confused, "that's impossible."

She let out a groan and looked down at the hold Mira still had on her wrist, her mouth fell open in shock at the purple energy that encased her own wrist and Mira's hand.

The younger woman let her gaze fall onto the blood that still coated Evelyn's fingers as well as her forehead. She noticed that some of the blood had fallen onto her hand from where she grabbed her mother. She tried so hard to refrain, she willed herself to not given into the sudden hunger she felt but it already had control of her body. And Mimi couldn't stop herself from using her free hand to wipe the blood off her arm and before she knew it, she was lifting her hand towards her mouth and licking the blood off of her finger.

Evelyn Delgado could only watch in horror as Mira regained the color in her face and veins appeared under eyes as well as her teeth shaped into the form of fangs.

"Mimi, no," Evelyn cried.

Miralette's dark and red eyes snapped towards her mothers and all Evelyn saw was hate. And she knew that it was all her fault.

"No, no, Miralette. You don't want to do this," Evelyn exclaimed as she tried to get away with her life, but it began to set in she wasn't going to make it out of this alive.

Mira narrowed her eyes sharply, "I hope you enjoy rotting in hell." With that, before either women could comprehend, Mira had stood up as well as lifting Evelyn with her while she sunk her new formed fangs into the older woman's neck.

Evelyn's screams could be heard for miles but no one was coming to save her and even if they did, she would be dead by the time anyone found the mother and daughter.

Mimi tried to take control. She tried to stop. She still had no idea what was happening or why she was doing what she was doing but deep down she knew she wanted to keep going. It wasn't just cause of her newfound hunger for blood but also her anger and hatred for her mother that had been building up for years. This was revenge for everything Evelyn put her through everyday of her life and even though she never wanted to admit it, she enjoyed every second of it.

When Evelyn's screams died out and Mira could no longer taste anymore blood, she pulled back. Keeping ahold of Evelyn's now lifeless body as Mira stared at it wide eyed.

"oh god," she mumbled to herself as she laid Evelyn's body on the ground.

She'd killed someone, and not just anyone but her mother. The woman who birthed her, gave her a life and than made that life a living hell.

Mimi hated herself. Not because she killed her mom, but because she didn't care that she had killed her. She was glad and that made her disgusted in herself. She took a life and she was glad.

She backed away from the woman's body and looked around. She was in the middle of the woods, in the place that only hours before she had died in. She needed to find her family. Her dad, her brother, her friends and Nik.

Niklaus.

She had made peace with her death in her final moments because those final moments were in his arms. And right now he was somewhere believing she was dead. She had to find him and tell him she was very much alive and apparently a vampire? That part still wasn't completely adding up in Mira's mind but considering she just drained the blood from her mother and enjoyed it proved that Evelyn wasn't lying about that.

She had to find her brother and father, but she was scared. When they find out what she just did and what she is, they'll probably hate her. Everyone might. Maybe they're better off thinking she's dead. Those were the thoughts going through Mira's head. So much was happening and it all wasn't comprehending in her mind, it was just stressing her out.

First, she needed to figure out what to do with the now dead Evelyn Delgado's body. Than she remembered how she caused the woman to fly into the tree only moments ago. Mira looked down at her hands before her gaze fell onto the lifeless body.

She drew in a breath as she held her hand out towards Evelyn and said, "incendia." Mira eyebrows furrowed when nothing happened. She groaned while squeezing her eyes shut. She decided to try again and took a deep breath this time whilst putting all her focus in Evelyn, "incedia." When nothing happened again she threw her hands up in annoyance.

Only when she looked back, Evelyn's body was burning and the flames were quickly growing. Mimi would be lying if she said she didn't have tears prick her eyes as she watched the body of her mother slowly turn into a crisp. Watching her become unrecognisable caused reality to set in. She killed her. After dying and coming back to life, Miralette Emberson turned into a murderer by killing the woman that gave her life, the woman who also played apart in taking her life away.

She was angry, but heartbroken at the same time. As the fire grew even more and Evelyn turned into nothing but burnt flesh, Mira began to walk away. When she turned to leave after a final glimpse at Her mother, something caught her eye.

Evelyn's grimoire.

It had been thrown away the same time Evelyn had and was lying on the ground a few feet away. Mimi walked over and bent down to pick the spell book up. It was the Delgado grimoire that had been past down for generations. It was meant to go to Matteo next. Though everyone knew Theo would no doubt give it to his sister considering she was far more into the whole magic thing than he was.

Mimi's book was nothing compared to the one she now held in her hands. It held light spells, dark ones, forbidden ones and even some rather impossible ones.

The new vampire went to walk over to it but found herself there much faster, as if she had moved at lightning speed. She looked around confused before shaking her head and leaning down to pick up the grimoire.

Whilst holding the book tight to her chest, Mimi looked back at Evelyn's burning corpse with unshed tears one last time. "Goodbye, mama," she whispered before she fled the scene.

That was the day Evelyn Delgado-Emberson got what was coming for her. Her death caused by her own daughter the day after she had formed a plan to kill said daughter.

It was also the day after Miralette Emberson died and the day Mira Delgado was born.

i'm not even going to talk about my long ass break ok. All i'm gonna say is i've had no motivation for writing these past few months but i love this book too much to give up on it. Plus i still have so many ideas for it and I need to try and get through season 3 asap but i'm clearly struggling.

I am gonna try to update more, but I make no promises so don't hold me to it.

Thank you all for the patience.
