Chapter 21 | Disturbing Behaviour
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Mira was ready to stake herself. She was with Klaus and Stefan who sat on couches in a clothes store while Rebekah tried on outfits that Mira passed to her. The female hybrid loved shopping and Rebekah but put the two together and you get a headache. Especially since she wasn't too fond of the twenty-first century clothing style.
Klaus and Mira had compelled everyone in the store so it was just them and an employee who was thankfully supplying them with champagne.
"There has to be more to this dress," the blonde original whined again, from inside the changing room.
"There's not," Klaus replied, boredly, while Mira rolled her eyes in amusement.
She walked out of the room wearing a short black dress. She looked at Mimi who stood close by looking through different clothes, "So women in the 21st century dress like prostitutes, then?" she asked with raised brows.
"Sort of," Mimi chuckled at her as she downed the rest of her champagne while looking at a black denim jacket.
"You know, I got dirty looks for wearing trousers," she said to them.
"You wore trousers so women today could wear nothing," Klaus humoured.
Mimi finally walked back over to them, taking in Rebekah's outfit, "you look amazing, bekah."
"This outfit is far from amazing, Lettie," the vampire girl huffed, "you on the other hand look stunning." She smiled at her as she looked at her short and tight black and white chequered skirt, black cropped long sleeve top and grey large cardigan as well as her usually high heeled boots.
"Thank you," the hybrid returned the smile. "Don't worry, we will find you a good outfit."
Rebekah just sighed in annoyance as she stared down at the dress hugging her body. Mimi reached down and snatched the champagne bottle from Klaus' hands to refill her glass.
Klaus huffed, "it's not hard to ask, you know. There's this thing called manners, love."
Mimi stared down at him indifferently, "when do you ever ask for anything? Let alone use manners, huh?"
Klaus scoffed in offence, "I use manners with you all the time."
"Only because you know I'll torture you if you don't," she smirked, smugly.
Rebekah looked between the pair and couldn't help but smile a little. It felt like old times with them bickering. There was never a dull moment with Nik and Mimi. She found it amusing how Klaus followed and listened to the brunette like a puppy. She hadn't seen that side of her brother in a long time.
She expected Klaus to be hostile towards Mira for the lying and hiding she had been doing over the years, but she also knew her brother never stopped loving her and never went a day without thinking about her. It was clear he was enjoying having her back and trying his best to ignore the bad stuff as was the Emberson girl.
Rebekah was too. She missed Mimi even more than she knew but there was always a voice in her head telling her to keep an eye on her. She wouldn't let Mimi go this time, she refused to lose her again. But she also feared to trust her.
The female hybrid shoved Klaus a little earning an exasperated stare from him as if to ask what she was pushing him for.
"Move over," she demanded.
He furrowed his brows, "there's no room."
"Well then get up," she shrugged, "I want to sit."
Klaus rolled his eyes before grabbing her waist and gently pulling her down onto his lap. Mimi's eyes widened instantly as she tensed in his arms.
"There you go," he grinned, cheekily.
She contemplated standing and dragging him off the seat to take it for herself but instead found herself remaining where she was as she relaxed back into him.
She turned to him with narrowed eyes, "this means nothing."
He hummed, not really believing her words, a smirk still resting on his face. Mimi just rolled her eyes and turned back to Rebekah who was looking at herself in the mirror.
"And what is this music? It sounds like a cable car accident," Rebekah shook her head as she turned back to them. She arched a brow at the position her brother and best friend were now in but said nothing.
Stefan pursed his lips, "It's dance music."
"People dance to this?" The blonde asked.
"Hmm," Stefan nodded in confirmation.
Klaus sighed deeply, "Are we done?"
Rebekah walked towards him, looking down at her brother, "And why are you so grumpy?"
"I needed one thing from you for my witch to find out why my hybrids are dying," Klaus reminded irritably, "One thing. Your necklace. And you lost it."
"I didn't lose it," Rebekah retorted, "It's just been missing for 90 years."
Klaus just rolled his eyes at her, not bothering to reply. Mimi, noticing this, hit Klaus on his chest causing the man to grumble and glare at her.
"Ow!" He exclaimed dramatically.
She crossed her arms, returning the glare, "just because your hybrids aren't working, does not mean you can take it out on your sister."
"She's the one —"
Mimi held up a finger ceasing his complaint, "she lost the necklace, I know. But she was a bit preoccupied being daggered and shoved in a box to notice it was gone, if I recall correctly."
Klaus fell silent, knowing she was right. Also knowing he wasn't going to win the argument. Now he was regretting reuniting his sister and ex because Mira always took his siblings sides when he argued with them. It annoyed him to no end.
"One thing I have truly missed was Mimi putting you in your place, Nik. It was always the best part of my day," Rebekah grinned mockingly.
"Shut up," he mumbled as he downed his drink.
Rebekah, feeling triumphant after that, looked at Stefan while she twirled to showcase her dress to him, "So what do you think?"
"I like it," Stefan replied, although both females instantly knew he was lying or maybe he just didn't care. "What?" He looked between them, noticing their stares, "I said I like it."
"I can always tell when you're lying, Stefan," Rebekah stated angrily before storming back into the changing room.
"Even I can tell. You didn't even make that convincing," Mimi shook her head at him as she sipped her drink.
"Nice one. Good work," Klaus said to Stefan, once again refilling his glass as he knew they weren't leaving anytime soon.
"You're the one that pulled the dagger out of her," Stefan retorted.
"I heard that," the original called out from inside the changing room. "Mimi!"
"I'm on it," the brunette reached over to the Salvatore and slapped him. She then turned in Klaus' lap, slapping him as well.
Both boys grumbled complaints under their breaths, throwing harsh glares at her while she simply just sipped her drink innocently.
"Thank you!" Rebekah shouted.
Stefan rubbed his face as he stood from his seat, "All right. I'm going to get some fresh air."
Klaus paid him no mind as he started to drink the champagne from the bottle disregarding his glass.
"Will you go in there and hurry this up, I really don't feel like sitting here all day," he whispered in Mira's ear sending chills up her spine as his hot breath hit her neck.
She breathed, trying to compose herself as she slowly stood from her seat in his lap, "I'll try my best," she replied, trying hard to act normal.
"Thank you, angel," he smiled, very much knowing what he was doing.
She shook her head at him before she grabbed an outfit she had put together earlier and walked into the change room where the blonde was complaining to herself.
"Here," she held out the top and shorts towards Rebekah, "try this." The vampire eyed it warily. "Trust me," Mira insisted with a knowing look.
━━━━━━━
Stefan walked into Gloria's bar hours later to find Rebekah and Mira sitting on top of the bar talking while Klaus was sitting on a stool next to them drinking.
"You left us," Rebekah pouted.
"Yeah, sorry," he smiled falsely at her, "Retail therapy was making my head explode."
"Tell me about it," Klaus mumbled as he sipped his drink as he glared at Mimi who was giggling at his annoyed state.
Stefan turned his attention to Gloria, who sat at a table, her hands floating above a grimoire with candles surrounding her.
"What's she doing?" He asked curiously.
"She's failing," replied Klaus in irritation.
"It's hard to find something when you don't have anything to go on," the witch retorted.
Mira raised a brow in the woman's direction, "will channeling me and using Rebekah speed this up at all?"
Gloria turned to her, surprised she'd offer to let her channel her, "yes actually. At least one of you offers a solution."
Rebekah and Mira shared a look before hopping off the bar and towards the table the witch was seated at. "All right, give me your hands, sweethearts," Gloria instructed, taking their outstretched hands into her own.
Mimi instantly felt her channel her magic. She watched Gloria stop for a moment and look at her with slightly wide eyes. The hybrid figured she felt a great deal of power running through her veins.
Mimi herself could feel it more and more each day since the ritual was completed. And while it was quite a euphoric feeling, it also was draining when she went days without using her powers. It was like there was too much power for her body to contain sometimes. But Mira wasn't too used to it yet so she didn't use it much. She had been practicing with using all the grimoires that she collected over the years and gradually she was getting better with it.
Stefan stood beside Klaus, as they both eyed the three women, "She's, uh, she's looking for the necklace, huh?" He questioned with slight anxiousness lacing his tone.
Mimi turned her gaze to him with suspicion swarming her eyes. He had been acting stranger than usual ever since the necklace had been brought up. And if she didn't know any better she would think he was worried that they'd find it.
"I can sense something," Gloria announced, her eyes closed once again as she chanted quietly.
Stefan slowly inched closer to them, waiting in anticipation for her to reveal what he had been hiding all summer.
Gloria suddenly dropped the original girls hands, "I found it."
"So where is it?" Rebekah queried impatiently, very much wanting her necklace back.
"It doesn't work like that, doll," Gloria shook her head, "I get images. There's a girl with her friends..."
Yes, a dead girl with dead friends, if I don't get my necklace back," Rebekah interrupted angrily.
Mimi placed a hand on the blondes shoulder, "we'll get the necklace and these girls, Beks."
Rebekah sighed deeply as she leaned into her best friend for comfort. The necklace was important to her, she'd had it for years.
"I'll have to dive back in to get the details," the witch told her.
"So dive," Klaus ordered with a fake smile as he leant down on the table beside the witch.
Mimi shoved him a little, "don't be pushy." He scowled at her, pissed at the fact that she kept hitting and shoving him.
"I need more time," Gloria responded, ignoring the interaction between the hybrids, "And space. You're harshing my ju-ju."
"We can wait."
"I'm sure you can. But that's not what I asked," Gloria sighed in irritation.
The witch and male hybrid stared at each other challengingly, neither one backing down until Stefan interrupted.
"Hey. Hey, you know, why don't we just come back later," he suggested, "I'm hungry anyway. I'll let you pick who we eat."
Mimi scoffed, "hell, if anyone's picking it's gonna be me. Don't be thinking otherwise, Salvatore."
Stefan raised his hands in mocking surrender as he started making his way towards the exit. Mimi looked at the siblings who stared back at her with smirks, each of them rather hungry after their shopping trip earlier. She followed after Stefan and the Mikaelson's quickly followed after her.
━━━━━━━
Mira was now back in the warehouse sat on a crate beside Rebekah, Klaus was on a couch drinking from a girl and Stefan is in the chair next to him doing the same with a different girl.
Mira retracted her fangs from her girls neck, pulling back with blood dripping down the corner of her mouth as her veins were evident under her glowing purple eyes. She took a breath and shoved the dead girl out of her lap letting her tumble onto the ground. Her face went back to normal as she wiped the blood from her mouth.
While she did that, Rebekah spoke, "My girl's dead. I'm bored."
Klaus, ignoring his sister, pulled away from the girl he was draining and stared at Stefan, "You weren't kidding about being hungry."
Stefan turned to him with a pant, "Yeah. It's been a long day."
Klaus smirked as he nodded towards his sister, "Try being related to her."
"What have I said about teasing your sister, Nik?" Mira raised an unimpressed brow.
Rebekah pouted, "You're being mean." She set her gaze on Stefan who laughed, "And why are you being mean? You used to love me."
"It's been ninety years, Rebekah. Give him a minute," Klaus rolled his eyes at her.
"Why are you taking his side?" She asked.
"Because, my dear sister, I feel pity for any man who doesn't give you what you want," Klaus snarked.
"Well, then I pity Mimi for dating you for, four years," she smirked when he glared at her.
Mira giggled, "I appreciate that, Beks."
Klaus narrowed his eyes at his ex, "do not agree with her, Miralette."
"Or what, Niklaus?" She challenged.
Rebekah decided to cut in not wanting to see where it would go, "and will you stop making me out to be a brat? I am not a brat!"
Klaus grinned, his eyes still on Mimi as they stared at one another, "A thousand years of life experience says otherwise."
Stefan chuckled, "Well, you're no picnic, either." Klaus' snapped his head towards him. "I mean, I've only spent one summer with you and Mira and I feel like I want to blow my head off."
Now Mira turned to glare at him, "why are you dragging me into this? I haven't even said anything, Salvatore."
Rebekah ignored as she laughed, "Fantastic."
Stefan suddenly stood from his seat, dropping the dead girl out of his lap, "I need to go."
No one replied, they just watched him storm off in the usual Stefan Salvatore brooding way.
"Where's he going?" Rebekah questioned.
"To write a name on a wall," Klaus answered with a head shake, "It's a long story."
Mimi scoffed, "more like a depressing one."
━━━━━━━
Mira had joined Klaus in going back to Gloria's bar to find out if the witch had found out anything about the necklace and the hybrids.
They had left Rebekah in the warehouse because she wanted to wait around for Stefan who was still yet to answer his phone or return.
"So, how are you and Rebekah?" Klaus asked, breaking their calm silence.
Mimi sighed, "we're figuring things out as we go," she answered. Unsure of the actual answer herself.
"She's a stubborn one, Rebekah is," the male hybrid chuckled.
Mimi rolled her eyes, "like you're one to talk."
"I'm not that bad," he retorted.
"Please," Mimi scoffed.
"You're no cup of tea either love."
Mimi hummed, "well as you have always loved to call me. I'm an angel."
Klaus gave a laugh of disbelief, "you look and talk like an angel but you don't act like one."
Mira paused, causing Klaus to stop and look back at her quizzically.
"What?" He asked.
She suddenly turned to him with a smirk, "you think I look and talk like an angel?"
Klaus rolled his eyes and shoved her away, "shut up," he huffed.
"No. I want to hear all about what an angel I am," she giggled.
Klaus shrugged, "you're my angel."
Mimi's eyes widened as her mouth fell slightly open at his words. Klaus smirked smugly in triumph at her speechlessness. Mira just silently followed him into Gloria's bar, still dumbfounded.
"Gloria!" Klaus beckoned as they looked around the bar for the witch. They both shared a confused glance when they realised no one was there. They couldn't hear a heartbeat so it was clear no one was hiding from them.
"You think she's ran?" Mira asked as it seemed like the witch had done a runner.
Klaus huffed angrily, "seems like it."
Mimi raised a brow as she realised something, "the necklace, Nik."
Klaus squeezed his eyes shut, "bloody bell." He turned back to the female hybrid. annoyance evident in his expression, "we're gonna need to find a new witch."
"Great! More witches to deal with," Mimi rolled her eyes, irritated.
"We wouldn't need to if you would just give it a go," he pointed out.
The woman shrugged, "I would if I didn't have to contact the original witch. That my friend is a no-go."
The Mikaelson shook his head at her, "fair point." He ran a hand down his face as he said, "let's go make sure Rebekah has scared Stefan off."
"I'm silently praying she has," Mimi mumbled to herself as she once again followed after Klaus out of the now abandoned bar.
━━━━━━━
Klaus and Mira march into the warehouse side by side. Both infuriated that the plan was messed up once again and they still had no answers.
"Gloria's gone. She's cleared out. We need to find a new witch immediately," Klaus explained as he spotted Rebekah and Stefan standing close to one another.
Mimi quickly noticed the tension in the room as she glanced between them, "what's going on with you two now?"
Rebekah stared at her brother and best friend blankly while Stefan seemed nervous.
"Something's wrong. He was asking about Mikael," Rebekah told them, causing the hybrids to tense up at the name. Klaus noticed Mimi's hands shake slightly so he took one into his own. "He's not with us, Nik," the blonde claimed, "I can sense it."
"She's wrong. Klaus..." Stefan tried to deny but was cut off when Mira lifted her free hand to let purple energy escape towards the vampire and snap his neck. Each of the originals watched as he fell to the ground limply.
"I've been waiting to do that all summer," the female hybrid smirked.
Rebekah couldn't help but chuckle silently at her before she turned to her brother, "what now?"
Klaus sighed as he looked between the girls, "it's time we take a trip back to Mystic Falls."
"Fantastic," Mimi muttered sarcastically.
━━━━━━━
Mira sat in the front seat of a truck with Rebekah beside her. The hybrid was texting Matteo to let him know she was back. She thought about texting Adelaide or even Ellie but wasn't sure how it would go down. It was probably better to do it in person.
"Who are you texting?" Rebekah asked.
"Matteo," Mimi answered with a sigh.
Rebekah froze before slowly turning in her seat to face the brunette, "Matteo? As in your brother, Matteo?" Mimi nodded nonchalantly. "He's alive?!"
Mimi's eyes widened as she figured that she had left that part out during the times she had been explaining to Rebekah about how her life had been the past thousand years.
She chuckled nervously, "did I forget to mention that?"
"Yes! Miralette, you seemed to have forgotten to mention it!" Rebekah shouted.
"I'm sorry!" Mimi exclaimed back, "slipped my mind."
Rebekah shook her head with a humourless laugh, "bloody hell. You turned him?" Mimi nodded silently, "when? Why? How?"
"Well, I did it the usual way. He had gotten violently sick, he was going to die and I couldn't let that happen. It was only a few years after we were all turned."
Rebekah sat silently as she took in the information before asking, "how is he?"
Mimi laughed, "annoying as ever. It seems his sarcasm and attitude have only become worse throughout the years. Nonetheless he's good."
Both girls heard a tap on the truck from the back, "Mimi, love. Stefan is taking his sweet time to come back to life, please wake him up."
Said girl rolled her eyes before snapping her fingers which immediately caused a groan to escape from the Salvatore in the back.
Rebekah raised a brow at her, "how do you do that?"
Mimi shrugged as she stared at her hands in awe, "it seems I have a lot of tricks up my sleeve that I am yet to know of."
"What kind of witch are you again? I thought there was only one bloody type."
"I'm not sure. All I remember is our mothers telling me that I had chaos magic - whatever that is. I haven't really had time to look into it."
"Just give me a chance to explain myself, okay?" They heard Stefan plead.
"No need. I'm not mad, I'm just curious," you could hear the smile in Klaus' voice. "Rebekah seems to think you're holding onto something. A piece of your old life. The thing is, she's got flawless instincts, borderline supernatural. So I thought I would check it out. See for myself what it is you've been hiding."
Klaus suddenly opened the back of the truck letting the light shine in brightly. Stefan furrowed his brows, squinting at the brightness as he took in the town he tried so hard to keep the originals away from.
"Welcome back to Mystic Falls, Stefan."
