xv. a new beginning
Chapter 15 | The Last Day
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
Sometimes Mira would get lost in her own head, imagining what her life could have been. How things would have turned out if she hadn't had such a horrible mother, if she was never a witch or if she never died and became who she was today.
It was peaceful to think about how her life with Niklaus might have gone — had things turned out normal for them. If he had the chance to propose. How their wedding and marriage would have been like. What their children could have looked like. If they'd have a boy or a girl, if she or he would get Nik's eyes and her original hair color. Growing old and dying together.
But then reality would set in and she'd remember that her life didn't turn out like that. It was all just a fantasy she liked to make up. Instead she was an unbalance of nature, someone that was never supposed to exist.
A young girl that went from an angel to a devil in a matter of a day. Although maybe she was never an angel to begin with. Maybe it was just a disguise she had convinced everyone - including herself - of.
Though it is said that those who are heartless, once cared too much. People taunted her and tried to take advantage of her kind and pure nature. So she became the person they treated her, an abomination with no ounce of compassion in her. She threw it back in everyone's face by showing them just how evil she could be.
She was no longer someone who deserved happiness. She was someone that was stuck in her own personal hell of living forever as a monster watching strangers live their lives while she was constantly restarting and repeating hers.
Mimi never wondered how her life would change if she ever reunited with the Mikaelson family because she had convinced herself it was never going to happen. She would have moments where she'd want to run back to them and spend the rest of eternity by their side. She just always seemed to stop herself from doing so, letting her mothers and Esther's words cloud her mind.
But now the thing she believed would never happen was currently happening as she came face to face with her former lover. And for once Mira had no idea where her life was going to go.
It was a new beginning. A change from the same life she was used to living.
━━━━━━━
"Hello love."
His voice, it was like music to Mimi's ears. His eyes, they were different yet still the same. That same mesmerising blue stared back into her striking hazel ones. It felt like eternity for both of them as they stood analysing each other, trying to find anything different to what they remembered.
"Hi, Nik," Mimi whispered back softly.
The two hybrids snapped out of their daze and took note of the three other people in the room when the witch - Greta - cleared her throat.
"Sorry," the witch said awkwardly when the exes snapped their heads to her. "I was wondering what we were going to do with him?" She asked while pointing towards Alaric.
Klaus, who could hardly take his eyes off Mira for a second, replied, "wait for him to wake up. I need him to deliver a message."
The tension in the room was thick and everyone could feel it. Mimi turned her gaze to Katherine who was looking at her in utter confusion, although the Emberson girl couldn't figure out what she was exactly confused about.
"Leave us," Klaus demanded lowly, his gaze on his warlock and witch. Maddox and Greta looked between the hybrids before rushing out of the apartment, deciding not to ask questions of what was happening and instead go and prepare for the ritual that was to take place the next night. "You too, Katerina."
The doppelgänger inhaled sharply before retreating to the back room of Alaric's place.
Mira felt the tension rise as they were now the only two left in there. She began trying to avoid his intense gaze that wasn't faltering.
"When you ran the other night I thought you would have left in an instant," Klaus started the dreadful conversation as he walked into the kitchen to grab a well needed bottle of bourbon and two glasses.
Mimi bit her lip before replying, knowing that there was no going back. "I promised I wouldn't run, didn't I?" Her back faced him as he stood in the kitchen.
"Yes, but I didn't know if you were to stay true to your word after all the promises that have been broken," Klaus stated, coldly.
Mimi raised a brow and turned to look at him. The look in his eyes told Mira exactly how he was feeling, angry. "I am not the only one to break promises here," she retorted. Her temper was going to get the best of her and she knew he was going to be pushing her to a limit where she wouldn't back down. Only problem was that he felt the same.
He eyed her as he slid a glass of bourbon across the counter towards her. She caught it swiftly before it fell and smashed on the ground.
"No, you're just the one who pretended to be dead for a thousand years," Klaus snapped back.
Mimi groaned, "did you bring me here to try and get your anger out?"
"Actually, I brought you here for an explanation. Although I am quite certain I have a right to be angry here, sweetheart."
"I wouldn't know where to begin," she sighed.
Klaus scoffed, "how about the beginning?"
Mira narrowed her eyes, her blood starting to boil, "you already know the beginning." She watched as he furrowed his brows, unsure of what she was talking about. "You know, the part where you told me you didn't love me anymore. When you left me in the middle of the woods crying my eyes out."
Klaus' eyes widened in recognition, a memory he had tried so hard to figure now coming back to him.
"Because I don't love you anymore."
"You don't mean that. You can't possibly mean that," Mimi's soft angelic voice cracked as she held back her sobs.
"We're over, Mira." Klaus stoically replied.
"And then as I'm running through the woods I end up running into your father and our mothers," Mimi continued while Klaus remembered the worst night of his life. He looked up as she said this though, never truly knowing what happened before he and his sibling showed up to Mimi bleeding to death.
"What did they do to you exactly?" He asked the question he had always tried to figure out.
"Our mothers were telling me that I was a mistake. Someone that was never meant to exist. My witch powers were like no other and from the things they were saying they sounded jealous of it. I quickly realised that they had cornered me to kill me." She downed her bourbon in one gulp before she finished off, "next thing I know is Mikael was stabbing his sword through my stomach and I was falling into your arms."
Klaus shook his head, "they tried to convince us that they found you like that. Clearly they didn't realise how suspicious they all looked. Especially Mikael's sword that was coated in your blood."
Mira chuckled bitterly while pouring more alcohol into her glass, "of course they did. They never expected you lot to come running to the scene. They hoped they would have been able to leave before you all found my body."
They fell into a silence before Klaus blurted out as he figured out what their parents were up to back then, "Esther convinced me that breaking up with you was for the best that day."
Mira's eyes snapped to him in confusion, "what?" She questioned.
"I was struggling with keeping our new found vampirism a secret from you. I was also struggling to stay away from you. She came to me telling me how it could all go wrong. How I could accidentally snap and kill you. She wanted me to break up with you so that you would be vulnerable. So that they could kill you when you were at your lowest."
Mira furrowed her brows, "why didn't you tell me? Why come and tell me you don't love me instead of exposing what happened? We told each other everything, Nik."
"They had turned me into a monster. I convinced myself that you would hate me, you wouldn't look at me the same." Klaus looked down, "that you wouldn't love me anymore."
"So you thought I'd break your heart and turn you away so instead you go and do it to me first?" Mimi snapped in disbelief.
Klaus' eyes grew angry once again, "I didn't know what else to do!"
"You tell me the truth, Klaus! You shouldn't have hid it for me. I wouldn't have ever looked at you as if you were a monster. Maybe things wouldn't have turned out this way if you had been honest."
Klaus laughed in aggravation, "so you're saying this is my fault?" He didn't give her a chance to reply as he continued, "you know this is all rich coming from you. Especially considering you're the one that clearly woke up as a vampire and instead of coming to find me, instead of saving me the pain of losing you and letting me know you're okay, you run. Leaving me to think you were gone forever and while I was stuck living forever without you."
"Because I thought you left me!" Tears filled Mimi's eyes as she shouted the words. "I woke up with no idea what was going on. Only to find my mother standing there as shocked as me. She told me that you all packed up and left, leaving my body in the middle of the woods and never looking back."
Klaus opened and closed his mouth trying to make out words but failing miserably. Although Mira was far from finished.
"My emotions were all over the place and I was so damn hungry. I ended up using my magic to throw her against a tree and after that all I smelt was blood. I ended up killing her and I hardly even blinked, the bitch deserved it. I thought she was lying about you all leaving so I ran back to our village and stopped at your cottage only to see it empty. Not a thing or anyone in sight. I then headed to my family's cottage and I was met with the sight of my dead father."
Mira stopped, taking a breath. She was angrily spewing out all the words and Klaus didn't dare try to interject.
"I ran outside and I found Esther standing there. I was pissed at everything and everyone at that point. Too much was happening In such a short amount of time that I couldn't comprehend any of it. She didn't care about the state I was in though, she was ready to make me feel even worse. I think she had some sort of idea what had happened to how I was alive but I don't know what it was. She handed me a note and a small box, those two things broke my dead heart."
Klaus' breath hitched, "what was in the box?"
Mimi raised a brow, "you know what was in the box, Klaus. At least I think you do unless it was another one of your mothers tricks. She told me you had asked her to make a ring because you were ready to propose. Then the day before my death you had apparently came to her telling her that you didn't want it. That she should destroy it. The note was a goodbye note that you and your siblings had supposedly written just after you had told me you didn't love me. You all had made a plan to leave and that was your goodbye."
Klaus ran his hand down his face in annoyance, "Mimi, I never told her to destroy the ring. I had left it in a hiding spot, she must have found it. And we never wrote a note or planned to leave, especially without a proper goodbye. As soon as I left you in the woods I regretted it, I planned to turn around and make it right but Mikael had found me and sent me back to the village. He told me that he would find you."
"He found me alright," the female hybrid chuckled silently, "then shoved a sword through my stomach."
"Is that what kept you away? Thinking we'd left you, that I'd left you."
"No," she shook her head, "it was when your father appeared out of nowhere with his sword to my brothers neck. He threatened that if I didn't pack up and leave immediately that he'd kill Matteo. He told me that if I ever told you or your siblings that I was alive he would hunt me down and make me watch him slowly end Matteo's life before ending mine. He laughed in my face as he told me that they were also responsible for my fathers death."
"I couldn't take the chance, I wasn't even sure about what was happening and how I had woken up and fed on my mother. All I knew was that you had broken my heart, I then was murdered, I woke up confused more then ever, my emotions were toyed with, I had killed my mother, couldn't find you or anyone I needed anywhere, found my dead father, than had my emotions toyed with some more, watched as Mikael almost killed my brother and was told that if I ever went near any of you again that anyone I cared about was going to die."
Klaus turned away, he was furious at his so called parents, furious at Evelyn Emberson and at himself for letting all that happen without realising they were all being manipulated and toyed with as if they were all puppets and their parents were the puppeteers. He was enraged with Mira for staying away despite everything she went through.
"And why not after?" He glared as he turned back to face her confused expression, "why not come to us when you had the chance. Mikael hasn't been heard of in years. Why show yourself now?"
"I..." she trailed off, trying to figure out the reason. "I never came to you after everything because I was a coward. I was scared to face you, scared of you breaking my heart again. I don't know why I stopped running now. I came here and was told that you would be arriving soon and no matter how many times I told myself to leave, I couldn't. I was so tired of running and hiding. Tired of being two steps ahead of you at all times. I stopped being scared of Mikael a long time ago, I stopped fearing he'd appear one day to kill the ones I had grown to love." She looked away from his angered eyes as she went on.
"That doesn't make this right, Mimi!" He exclaimed letting his patience run thin.
"I know!" She shouted back, not backing down.
"I mourned you, cried over you, tried to move on from you but I never could. No matter what you were always in the back of my mind, reminding me of my mistakes. Now you stand here before me expecting everything to be okay?!"
It was a screaming match at this point. Two powerful, stubborn and broken beings coming face to face, each of them having a broken heart over the other.
"Of course I know it won't be okay, Nik! None of this is okay. But we're here now and there's no going back. I can't take back the last Millennium. I don't know what else you want me to say. I'm sorry it turned out this way! I'm sorry you had to grieve me!"
"Sorry isn't going to fix anything!"
"I know!" Mimi shouted before mumbling, "I know. I can walk out that door and never look back if you want. It'll be exactly like it has for the last one thousand years. Just say the word and you will never see me again."
Klaus stared at her in surprise, never expecting that. He was at a loss for words and she was taking his silence in a bad way.
"Okay then," she whispered softly, tears filling her eyes as she turned away from him and walked towards the door.
Just as she reached for the doorknob she felt her arm being pulled back as she was spun around to face the person she missed more than anything.
Klaus looked into her tear filled eyes and reached up to catch a teardrop that had just fallen with his thumb. Softly caressing her cheek, he whispered, "don't leave again."
Mimi sighed as she wrapped her arms around his neck. He reciprocated by wrapping his tightly around her waist. This hug was different to the one they shared at the dance. He was in his own body, it felt more right then it did before. He's hand lifted up to tenderly stroke her long brunette locks.
She could help but roll her eyes at how dysfunctional they already were despite only being in each other's presence for less than an hour. One minute they're screaming in each other's face and the next they're hugging.
The two broke apart when they heard a gasp. Quickly turning to see Alaric who had been on the ground passed out the entire time now with his eyes open. They had forgotten he was there in the heat of the argument. It then set in that Katherine had just been in the other room no doubt listening to the former lovers.
"You can come out, Katherine." Mimi called out.
Klaus tried to suppress all his other emotions for the moment as he clapped his hands together and a sly grin took over his face while he stared down at Alaric, "welcome back, mate."
Mira honestly just needed another drink.
━━━━━━━
Elijah had been at the Salvatore's discussing the ritual which was to take place later that night. His thoughts had been on Mira, especially how she said her powers feel dormant. He couldn't help but wonder if she was somehow a part of this curse as well. What it would mean if she was.
"You'd think he'd understand why I'm willing to do this," Elena said as she walked in, complaining about Damon.
"Why are you?" Elijah asked, curiously.
"I'm the key to breaking the curse. Klaus is here because of me. If I don't stop him, then he's going to hurt people. It's that simple," she explained.
"You know, there's a possibility this elixir won't work. I don't want to mislead you," Elijah said, looking down at the elixir he had made for Katerina 500 years ago. The one they hoped would save Elena's life.
"I know the chance I'm taking," Elena deadpanned. "And what about Mira?"
"What about her?"
Elena shrugged, "if she gets involved. What do we do? We can't kill two original hybrids, can we?"
Elijah looked away in thought, "I will handle, Mira. But she is not to be harmed." He knew deep down that even when she was human if someone she loved was hurt she wouldn't take it lightly. Although he was willing to take his chances.
Elena opened her mouth to respond but was cut off by a slammed door and Jenna's voice. She came out to find her aunt standing in front of Alaric with a crossbow.
"Get out!" The Sommers women firmed.
Alaric had his hands, "Jenna, put the crossbow down, okay? It's me."
"Stay away from me," Jenna retorted.
Stefan, Damon and Elijah walk into the hallway to find out what was happening.
"What's going on?" Elena questioned.
"It's me, Elena, I swear, okay? He let me go. Klaus let me go," Alaric assured as he felt their suspicious eyes on him.
"Prove it," Damon demanded.
The teacher turned to his girlfriend, "Okay, uh, first night you and I spent together, Jeremy walked in right when I was about to-"
"Okay, it's him," Jenna cut in before he could finish. Lowering the crossbow.
Stefan's raised a brow, "Why did he let you go?"
"He wanted me to deliver a message. The sacrifice happens tonight," Alaric told them. "Mira told me to tell you all, to be ready."
"Mira?" Damon frowned.
Elena swallowed nervously, "Mira and Klaus are together?"
Alaric sighed, "she was there when I woke up and when I left."
━━━━━━━
In all of the situations Mira thought she would get into when she came to Mystic Falls, she never thought she'd be inside an alcoholic teacher apartment with her thousand year old ex, his two minions and Katerina Petrova.
It was quite amusing actually. Her phone had been blowing up with messages from Adelaide. She had assured the blonde everything was okay but Addie wouldn't settle until she spoke to her on the phone or saw her in person.
Mimi was sitting next to a silent Katherine. The hybrid would have laughed seeing the doppelgänger so nervous and scared around Klaus but she didn't have it in her since she was also feeling her own nerves.
Klaus had been prepping his witches clearly trying to avoid another emotional conversation with Mira. He wanted to continue their talk and get more answers but for now he needed this ritual to go according to plan.
"So you will find the wolf and the vampire," Klaus told his witches.
"The wolf should already be on his way back with his mother now in the hospital," Maddox smirked.
Mimi's interest peaked. Who the hell was the vampire and werewolf they were using? She wondered.
Mira's phone rang causing everyone to turn to her. She looked down to see Adelaide was trying her again. Without a word she headed towards the door to take the call outside.
"Where are you going?" Klaus tried to hide the worry in his voice that she was leaving.
Mira looked back to him while she replied, "I'm just going outside to take this. I'll be back," she reassured. He gave her a nod and she stepped outside.
"Hello," she answered.
"What the hell is going on?!" Adelaide exclaimed through the phone causing Mira to pull away. "You have been gone all night and all I get is an 'I'm okay, don't stress' text? I mean seriously Mimi did you think I wouldn't continue to worry with such a vague response."
Mimi winced at her tone, "I get your upset-"
"Upset?" The blonde spat, "I am furious."
"Yes, and I'm sorry I didn't answer but it has been a stressful twenty-four hours. I haven't really had time to explain what's going on."
"Just tell me where you are," the vampire demanded.
Mira rubbed her eyes in, "I'm with Klaus."
The line went dead silent, worrying the hybrid that her best friend had hung up.
"I'm sorry," she heard Addie chuckle, "I think I heard you wrong. I thought you said you were with Klaus."
Mira sighed, preparing for the freak out, "that is exactly what I said, Adelaide."
"WHAT!" The blonde screeched.
"Oh my god, Adelaide, please stop screaming," Mimi begged as she rubbed her temples.
"You and Klaus are with each other? You didn't think to tell me this earlier? I thought you were with Elijah."
"Like I said, it's been a long night."
Adelaide took a deep breath to try and calm herself, "okay, you have some explaining to do but that can wait. When are you coming home?"
"I don't know yet. As soon as possible, but the ritual is tonight so god knows what Elijah, Elena and the Salvatore's have planned. I'll most likely be at that."
"Message me, okay? You're not doing that alone because if any of them try to hurt you I am kicking each of them in the face, hard."
Mimi chuckled, "got it." She heard the apartment door opening, she turned to see Klaus standing there. Clear relief in his eyes that she was still there.
"Oh, also I forgot to tell you. You will never guess who showed up last night," Addie said, hastily.
"Who?"
The phone was ripped out of her hand before she could get her answer. The brunette furrowed her brows as she turned to look at Klaus.
"Do you mind?" She glared.
"Nope," he grinned, "we have somewhere to be."
She nodded expecting an explanation, "where?"
"We're going to have a chat with the oldest Salvatore brother. Figured it was time me and him met," he stated as he walked down the stairs of the apartment building, Mimi in tow.
The female hybrid groaned, "really?"
"Yes and no whining," Klaus deadpanned.
Mira rolled her eyes, "can I least have my phone?" She asked while following him to his car.
"After you introduce me to the Salvatore," he decided as he opened his car door for her.
She gave him a blank look, but could tell he wasn't changing his mind. So she rolled her eyes again and without another word she slid into the passenger side, while giving him the finger.
Klaus just shook his head at her before shutting the door. "I should have left her with Katerina." He mumbled to himself.
"I heard that!" She shouted from inside the car.
━━━━━━━
The two hybrids hopped out of the car and began walking towards the entrance of the Mystic Grill.
Klaus broke the silence by randomly blurting out, "you know, you said something earlier that I'm still trying to figure out."
Mira gave him a puzzled glance, "which is?"
"You told me that when you woke up as a vampire, that your mother was there and you threw her into a tree with your magic," he recalled. "But vampires cannot be witches."
Mimi sighed, "apart from this vampire," she gestured to herself. "Disappointed to find out that you aren't the only original hybrid?"
Klaus' eyes widened slightly from the shock of her knowing what he really was and that he may have not been the only one this entire time.
Mimi watched as a human boy bumped shoulders with Klaus as he walked out of the grill. Klaus with his temper went to have a go at the human but Mira held him back. With a smirk she flicked her hand out and they watched as the strangers hot coffee exploded in his face.
"Fascinating, isn't it?" She whispered to Klaus before heading inside, leaving him confused while watching the freaked out boy who was now covered in coffee.
Mimi spotted both Damon and Alaric sitting at the bar of the Grill. Damon seemed awfully sad and she couldn't help but wonder what had happened to the vampire. She waited for Klaus to catch up and pointed him to the two friends.
"Gentlemen? Why so glum?"
The vampire and hunter turned their heads to the exes. Damon's eyes first landed on Mira then they turned to Klaus, causing him to let out a groan of annoyance.
"Klaus, I presume," the Salvatore replied.
"Unfortunately," Mira mumbled, earning a glare. She ignored her ex while she waved over the bartender.
Klaus looked back to Damon with a smug smirk, "in the flesh." He then turned his attention to Alaric, "Thanks for the loaner, mate."
Damon stood from his seat, standing in front of the hybrids with a look of anger, "Any reason you stopped by to say hi?"
"I'm told you and your brother fancy my doppelgänger. Just thought I'd remind you to not do anything you'll regret," Klaus told him.
Damon laughed sarcastically thinking of the fact that he had fed Elena his blood just half an hour before, "Thanks for the advice. I don't suppose I could talk you into a postponement, by any chance, huh?"
Mimi raised a brow at him, wondering if he was considerably getting dumber.
Klaus looked at Damon's serious face and narrowed his eyes, "You are kidding?" He turned to Mira, "He is kidding, right?"
Mimi sighed before downing her drink, "nope, I'm afraid he isn't."
Damon shrugged, "I mean, come on, what's one month in the whole grand scheme of things?"
"Let me be clear," Klaus started, getting closer to the Raven haired vampire. "I have my vampire. I have my werewolf. I have everything I need. The ritual will happen tonight. So if you want to live to see tomorrow, don't screw it up."
Klaus walked away not letting anyone get another word in. Damon then turned to the brunette hybrid.
"So much for not siding with him," he smiled falsely, betrayal in his eyes.
Mimi scoffed, "you turned on me first, don't you dare play innocent." She then turned towards the exit only to see Klaus there with a suspicious look on his face. She grabbed him and dragged him outside, "you wanna tell me who the vampire and wolf you're using are?"
Klaus rolled his eyes, "how do you know I'm not using Katherine?"
"Because you would never let her off the hook that easily. Who are you using, Klaus?"
"Tyler Lockwood and Caroline Forbes."
Mimi froze, "no, no, Klaus you can't use Caroline."
He furrowed his brows, "and why not?"
"Because I care about her and she is the last person in this town that deserves that," she glared. "Where is she?"
He shook his head, "you will not interfere, Miralette. It's already decided."
"We'll see about that," she spat before speeding away leaving an annoyed Klaus behind.
━━━━━━━
Mimi rushed inside her house, mentally preparing herself for a fuming blonde vampire. She hardly made it five steps in before she was being shoved back.
"You are very lucky I don't snap your neck and lock you in this house," Adelaide said.
Mimi rolled her eyes, "I get you're angry but we have bigger problems right now."
"Yeah, one being you not being here to greet us when we arrived," a new voice spoke from behind Addie.
Mimi's eyes widened as her mouth fell agape, she looked behind her best friend to see her brother and a certain redhead.
"Hey, little sister," Matteo grinned while she walked towards him. He opened his arms expecting a hug but instead felt a sting form on the side of his face, "what the hell was that for?! He exclaimed.
"That's for worrying me and not returning my calls, dipshit," she shouted back before wrapping her arms tightly around his neck.
"I'm sorry," he mumbled in her hair. "But how worried do you think I was when I hear you tell Adelaide that you're with Klaus?"
Mimi exhaled, moving away from him, "paybacks a bitch." She then turned to her redhead best friend.
Elliana smiled sheepishly, "you gonna slap me too?"
Mimi laughed while pulling her into her arms, "No, but I am mad you didn't tell me."
"I got occupied with torturing New Orleans witches," Elliana shrugged, tightening her arms around the older girl.
"As much as I would love to sit down and talk with you two, we really have bigger problems. You chose the worst day to show up."
"Jeez and here I thought you'd be over the moon to see me," Ellie shook her head while pouring herself a drink.
"What's going on now, Mimi?" Adelaide asked.
Mira winced, not entirely sure how she was going to take the news. "Okay, you know how Klaus needs a vampire and a wolf to kill for the ritual?" Adelaide nodded, "uh, well, he currently has Caroline and Tyler locked up somewhere waiting to use them."
The silence was sickening as Addie stared at her best friend blankly, giving no reaction.
"He wants to use Caroline?" The Rymer girl asked slowly. "We have to save her."
"Yes, I know. That's what I came here to get you for. Not expecting these two to be here," she said as she gestured to her brother and Ellie.
Matteo cleared his throat, "well, I'll ask. Who the bloody hell is Caroline and Tyler?"
"Caroline is Adelaide's crush," Mimi explained casually. Not thinking as she said it.
That snapped the blonde from her trance, "No she isn't!"
Elliana raised a brow with a smirk, noticing how defensive she got, "you sure about that?"
"Shut up," Addie groaned.
Matteo laughed loudly, "aw, our little Adelaide has a crush on someone."
"Can we focus?" Mimi interjected, "we have to Alaric's apartment."
"Why there?"
"Isn't Alaric the hunter/teacher?" Ellie asked Matteo in a whisper. Adelaide having explained vaguely some of what was going on in the insane town.
Matteo shrugged, forgetting everything Addie had told them, "no idea."
"We have to talk to Katherine?" Adelaide questioned.
This caught Elliana's attention, "you're going to see the doppel bitch? I'm coming."
Mimi shook her head, pulling the Voland girl back, "No, you can have your fun with her later. For now you and Matteo stay here while Me and Addie deal with it."
"What? No way am I staying in while you two go and have fun," Matteo scoffed, giving his sister an incredulous look.
"Yes you are. No one knows who you are or that you're here, we can use that later on," Adelaide declared.
"We'll be back soon," Mimi reassured before grabbing Adelaide's hand and rushing out.
Elliana threw up her hands, "this is your fault," she accused pointing at the Emberson boy.
He gave her an offended look, "my fault?"
"Yep, I told you we should have come sooner, now we're out of the loop, you idiot."
"Sweetheart, relax, something tells me we're all gonna be here a while anyway. You'll get your hands on Katerina eventually," Matteo assured while he fell back on the couch.
Ellie rolled her eyes, "Can not believe they left me with you. Two months had been long enough." She headed up the stairs deciding on picking out her new room.
"You love me, don't lie!" He shouted, "everyone loves me." He mumbled to himself while closing his eyes, going to sleep.
━━━━━━━
"I need to know where Klaus is keeping his werewolf," Damon's voice was the first thing the best friends heard as they appeared outside the apartment.
"Seems we had the same idea," Mimi said as she entered. She looked back to see Adelaide stuck outside having not been invited in.
Damon gave them a suspicious look before turning back to Katherine.
"Why? What are you going to do? What the hell is going on?" Katherine questioned.
"Dead werewolf equals no ritual," Damon shrugged.
Katherine shook her head, "No. You can't interfere, Damon. Klaus will kill you and everyone you've ever met."
"I just need to delay this thing," Damon gritted out, flashing her an annoyed look.
"No. No way."
"You should like this. It's going to buy another month of your pathetic life," Damon replied, earning a snort from Addie.
Katherine smirked at him, "Right. Except that I'm not the vampire he's planning on sacrificing."
"What?"
"Yeah, he's got Caroline and Tyler somewhere. Why do you think I want to find them," Mimi informed.
Damon raised a brow at her before turning to glare at Katherine, "And where'd he get that idea from?"
Katherine stepped back as Damon walked forward, "Hey! Hey, hey, hey, I'm just trying to stay alive long enough to get myself out of here."
Damon smiled, seeming like he knew something none of the others did, "What if I told you Elena had vampire blood in her system?"
"What?" The three girls exclaimed.
Damon just focused his attention on the doppelgänger, "Imagine how much fun that will be competing with Elena for Stefan's love for, I don't know, forever."
"I'd personally not like to be stuck on this earth with two vampire doppelgängers, thank you," Adelaide spoke from her spot.
Katherine sighed in annoyance, "The tomb. He's got them in the tomb."
"Thank you," Damon appreciated.
Mimi grabbed him before he could leave, "we're coming with you."
"No you're not," he stated, snidely.
"We care about Caroline, Damon. I won't let her get hurt," if looks could kill Damon would be six feet under at that moment.
"Actually, I think it's better if Adelaide goes, because Klaus has been looking for you," Katherine said, trying to convince her to stay for reasons unknown to the others.
"I'm not letting him go on his own," the hybrid firmed, gesturing to Damon.
"He won't be," Adelaide spoke, "because I'm going."
"Adelaide-" Mimi's started but was cut off.
"We'll be fine. Trust me," the blonde reassured.
"Times ticking away girls," Damon huffed, annoyed that they were wasting time.
"Fine," Mira caved, "go."
She watched her best friend and former friend waste no time in rushing off.
"Actually, he showed up before saying that he needed to find a new vampire. Apparently he couldn't use Caroline. I'm guessing you had something to do with that," Katherine told her.
Mimi frowned, 'he wasn't going to use Caroline because she told him not to?'
Mimi grew angry, she sped to the doppelgänger, wrapping her hands around her throat, "so, you just made me send my best friend to save a wolf that almost got her killed?"
Katherine choked out, "Caroline might still be there, but I don't know."
"You want to pray nothing happens to her or I swear to god, Katerina, Klaus will be the least of your problems."
━━━━━━━
Klaus abruptly entered Alaric's place. He looked from Katherine to the gorgeous brunette on the couch who had a cup of blood in hand.
"Done with your tantrum?" he wondered.
She shrugged, indifferently, "you pissed me off. Some advice, don't do it again."
"Right back at you," he retorted.
They fell into a silence, glaring at each other.
"Everything okay?" Katherine broke the quietness eyeing them both cautiously.
Klaus took his gaze of Mira to the Pierce woman, "What have you been doing?"
Katherine shrugged, "Making coffee. Do you want some?"
He rushed over to her, wrapping his hand tightly around her throat just as Mira had hours before.
"Tell me what you've been doing," he compelled her.
"Making coffee," she wheezed.
He let her go. She fell to the fall gasping for air. "Has anyone told you two that you're perfect for each other?"
The hybrids rolled their eyes and ignored her remark. Katherine turned to face away from them but was stopped.
"Wait. Take off your bracelet," Klaus commanded. She did as she was told to, "Now, I want you to walk over to the window and stand in the sunlight."
"But I'll burn."
Klaus smiled, "You don't have a choice."
Mimi slowly stood up from her seat, eyeing them cautiously. Katherine slowly stood in the sunlight and the side of her face began to burn. She screamed loudly in pain. Klaus watched with a smile. Mira just raised a brow, not feeling much pity for the doppelgänger.
"That's enough," Klaus spoke after a moment.
Katherine was quick to rush to a dark corner letting her skin clear the heal the burn marks.
"Guess I was wrong. All right, then. I need you to do something for me." Klaus said, ignoring the vampires glare.
"Starting to wish I just stayed home," Mimi sighed, retaking her seat.
━━━━━━━
Klaus eventually came back. He was surprised to see Mira still sitting on the couch sipping blood.
"You stayed?"
She shrugged, "I had nothing better to do."
Klaus turned his attention to Katherine, "Where's Maddox? He should be back by now."
"I don't know," Katherine shrugged.
Klaus sat down next to Mira and pulled out his phone. A live video appeared of Jules laying on the floor of a cellar, chained to the wall.
"Is that Jules?" The female hybrid asked, receiving a nod.
"Where's Elena?" Katherine queried.
"I sent her off with Greta."
"It's almost time," he smiled as he watched Jules transform.
Suddenly the door opened. Mimi and Klaus share a look of irradiation.
"I wasn't aware you'd been invited in," Klaus sat back as Damon appeared behind him.
Mimi rushed to stand and looked to Damon, "where's Adelaide and Caroline."
"They're fine," he fibbed a little, not informing her that they were currently hiding from a werewolf that wanted to kill them. "I've come here to tell you that you have to postpone the ritual," the Salvatore demanded.
"Didn't we already have this conversation?"
"Yeah, but that was before I rescued your werewolf and vampire and killed your witch," Damon said smugly.
"Here we go," Mira rolled her eyes as Klaus stood up to face the vampire.
"And you can kill me for it. I don't care. It was all me," Damon emphasised.
"Katerina, give us a moment."
Katherine did as told, standing and walking away. Damon looked between the two hybrids.
"I've heard about you. The crazy, impulsive vampire in love with his brother's girl. I knew one of you would try to stop me. It was just a 50/50 guess on who." Klaus showed him the video of Jules screaming in pain, "The nice thing about werewolves is they tend to travel in packs. Need a closer look?" He threw Damon the phone.
"Jules."
"When you spend a thousand years trying to break a curse," The Original circled the vampire, "You learn a thing or two. First rule, always have a backup. Backup werewolf. Backup witch."
"Backup vampire." Damon said in realisation.
"I've got that covered, too", Klaus said as he snapped the Salvatore's neck.
Mimi stood, "Klaus, you can't use him," She may be pissed at him but she wasn't going to let him die either.
"Don't worry, love. His useless," he told her as he pulled back the unconscious vampires sleeve and showed her the bite mark on his skin.
Mira gasped, "no," she whispered. Then it clicked, "Adelaide."
Klaus furrowed his brows, "you're best friend, Adelaide? What does she have to do with this."
"She went with Damon to save Caroline. They obviously saved Tyler as well and he turned. What if one of them has been bit?"
"He said they were safe." Klaus reminded her, as he held out his hand for her. "Right now we have a ritual to get to."
She eyed it, knowing if she took it and went with him there was no going back. She prayed Adelaide would be with Caroline, hopefully safe. So against her better judgement, she took his hand and let him pull her out of the apartment.
To a new beginning
Wow, I finally updated. I don't know how I feel about this chapter but Elliana and Matteo are in Mystic Falls finally !!
(Please read)
You got a vague description on what happened after Mira woke up as a vampire but there will be actually flashbacks eventually so it makes more sense. And you'll also find out why Klaus and his siblings were no where to be found.
It only gets more intense from here.
