Chapter 14 | Klaus
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
"Have I mentioned we seriously need to redecorate?" Adelaide said as she walked into the dining room. "Who would buy such disgusting paintings?" She shuddered while eyeing the framed photos on the walls.
Mira looked up from her magazine with a raised brow, "you'd have to ask the Johnson's that question. Oh wait, they're dead."
"That is true," Adelaide shrugged with a thoughtful look. She took a seat at the table next to the brunette. "What are you reading?"
"I'm not reading. It's some weird magazine," she told her as she threw the book on the kitchen counter. "Wouldn't recommend it."
Addie hummed, "So what are we doing today?"
Mira furrowed her brows, "nothing. At least I'm not. I'm happy to lock myself inside all day."
"How exciting," Adelaide rolled her eyes sarcastically. "Have you heard from Matteo or Ellie?"
Mimi nodded, "Matteo has texted. I'm not really sure what either of them are doing at this point."
"Maybe we could go to New Orleans-" a knock interrupted the blonde.
"Who the hell would that be?" Mira frowned.
"If it's a Salvatore I'm going to kick them where the sun does not shine," Adelaide warned.
"Maybe we could take turns," Mimi suggested with a smirk as she headed towards the front door.
The person on the other side was the last person she was expecting.
"Hey Mira," Elena smiled nervously.
"Are you lost?" Mira questioned in complete confusion.
Elena sighed, "he wouldn't talk to me without you being there."
Mimi's brows furrowed, "who-" her words fell short when a disheveled Elijah came into view beside the doppelgänger. "Lijah."
The man smiled softly to her, "Hello, Mimi."
Mira smiled back as she stepped outside and pulled the man into a hug, surprising him slightly.
"I'm sorry I didn't help you," she whispered.
Elijah shook his hand tightening his arms around her, "it's okay. You are not at fault. I apologise for not telling you about my true plans."
She pulled back to turn to Elena, with a puzzled look. "You pulled out the dagger?"
Elena avoided her gaze, suddenly finding the ground very interesting. She refused to reply considering she was a little afraid of the reaction she would get from the hybrid.
"I think it's time we all had a little chat," Elijah intervened, sensing Elena's discomfort.
"Mimi, who was at the..." Adelaide's voice trailed off when she saw the original and the doppelgänger standing there. "Door."
"Hello, Adelaide," the Mikaelson greeted kindly.
"Elijah, you're looking, well." The blonde smiled tightly as she looked the man up and down, eyeing his burnt suit.
"Yes, I am in need of a new suit. Which is why I know where our next stop is," Elijah told them as he began to walk away. Elena quickly followed after him. "Come along, Miralette."
"Me?" The Emberson raised a brow. "Why?"
Elijah turned back, replying in an obvious tone. "To talk, of course. We have much to speak of."
Mira frowned as she turned back to Adelaide, giving her an annoyed look when the blonde gestured for her to go with them. "Go, get some answers or whatever."
"And spend the day with Elena?" Mira groaned.
"Just knock her out when she gets on your nerves, duh," the Rymer girl rolled her eyes.
Mimi huffed, turning back to see Elijah looking at expectantly. She squeezed her eyes shut in dread when Adelaide threw her a coat and slammed the front door shut.
"Why do I do this to myself?" She muttered as she slid on the clothing and followed after Elijah, who now sat with Elena in the said girls car.
She came around to the passenger seat where Elena was sitting and opened the door earning questioning looks from the Gilbert girl.
"Get in the back," she demanded.
"What?" Elena stammered incredulously.
"Did I stutter? Children sit in the back," Mimi spoke as if she were talking to a child.
Elena looked to Elijah for him to protest but the man just shrugged, not wanting to be on the wrong end of Mira's wrath.
With a defeated sigh, the doppelgänger unbuckled her seatbelt and got out of the car to go to the back. Mimi grinned in satisfaction while getting inside, receiving a small chuckle and head shake from Elijah while he drove off.
━━━━━━━
The trio were standing inside the Lockwoods house. Mimi brushed past Carol and Elijah while the Mikaelson compelled her.
"Well, first things first. I'm going to need a change of clothing," Elijah said as he looked down at his messy state.
"Well, we can try one of my husband's suits. I haven't boxed them up yet," Carol offered.
"Wonderful."
The Lockwood woman gave them all a smile before retreating upstairs. Elena turned to Elijah with furrowed brows, "How did you know she's not on vervain?"
"'Cause I'm the one who got her off it," the man replied. "Right before you and your friends killed me. Twice. If you'll excuse me. I'll be down in a moment." He stopped halfway up the stairs with his gaze on Mira, "do try to be civil for a few moments, girls."
Mira gave a mocking smile, "I'm always civil."
He scoffed playfully before leaving their sights. The awkward tension was obvious when Mira felt Elena's burning gaze on the side of her face, but the hybrid didn't feel like humouring her in that moment.
"Thank you," the doppelgänger said abruptly, taking the older brunette by surprise.
"For what exactly?"
"Helping Bonnie." Damon had told Elena how he had asked Mira for a way to save Bonnie. He had explained how the hybrid had given him the spell that helped save her life. While the Gilbert girl still didn't trust her, she was thankfully.
"I didn't do it for you," Mimi shrugged casually.
Elena nodded grimly, "then why did you?"
"I don't know. Guess I was feeling generous." Mimi chuckled at how stupid that sounded coming from her. "Is Bonnie okay?"
"Yeah, yeah she's fine."
The two fell back into that awkward silence again. Neither knowing what to say. It was funny how quick they went from almost being friends to feeling as if they were strangers. Mira always held a disliking to Elena but that was slowly changing until the human showed her how quickly she'll turn on you without the full story.
It had been the same with Damon. Mira would never say it out loud but it had truly pained her with how quickly he turned his back on her. He assumed things before asking any questions and it caused him to lose a friendship that Mira thought meant as much to him as it did to her.
Although at the end of the day it was and would be more his loss than hers.
━━━━━━━
The trio now sat in the Lockwoods living room. Elijah had rid himself of his dirty burnt suit with a fresh one. He sat beside Mira while Elena was across from the two.
"So I assume that the Martin witches are no longer with us," Elijah broke the silence.
Mimi chuckled when he looked at her expectedly, "don't look at me." She pointed a finger at a guilty looking Elena, "this one and her guard squad are to blame for that."
Elena gave the hybrid a glare before shaking her head at Elijah, "No, they're not. I'm sorry."
"And Katerina? She would have been released from my compulsion when I died."
"Klaus took her," Elena informed. "We think that she may be dead."
Mimi however hadn't known about this. Last time she spoke to the Petrova, the girl told her she was bargaining for her freedom.
"I doubt that. Not Klaus' style. Death would be too easy for her after what she did," Elijah said.
"I don't understand. You say that you want Klaus dead, but you still made Katherine pay for betraying him."
"I have my own reasons for wanting Katerina to pay," he told Elena.
"Don't we all," Mira chuckled.
Elijah's lips twitched upward but his face remained stoic while adding, "There was a time, I'd have done anything for Klaus."
Elijah went on to tell the two girls how they came to know Katherine and Elijah revealed to Elena his relations to Klaus.
"Klaus is my brother."
"I heard that," Elena said in shock. "I'm still processing."
"Yes, I'm a little behind on the times, but I believe the term you're searching for is OMG," Elijah said, sipping his tea.
Mimi smirked, "perfect use of the term, Elijah."
"Oh, why, thank you, Mimi," he grinned at her.
"There's a whole family of Originals?" Elena asked in disbelief.
Mira scoffed, "oh yeah. Even a mama and a papa if you could even call them that." She added, bitterly.
Elijah shook his head at the older girl as he fixed the buttons of his suit. He continued with explaining, "My father was a wealthy landowner in a village in Eastern Europe. Our mother bore seven children."
"So your parents were human?"
"Our whole family was. Even Mira here. Our origin as vampires is a very long story, Elena. Just know, we're the oldest vampires in the world. We are the Original family, and from us all vampires were created," Elijah explained.
"And what about you?" Elena queried while eyeing Mimi who sat on the couch staring at the wall in boredom.
"What about me?" The Emberson girl snapped back apprehensively.
The human looked between the two originals, "how do you fit into this story?"
"Actually, there are questions I would love answers to, myself." Elijah voiced in interest. "Obviously you turned when we thought you died. You are an original also, aren't you?"
Mira sighed, she hated thinking about her death. It made her equally angry and sad. It was something she tried hard to forget. "Yes, I am."
"How do you know?"
Mimi stared at the ground before lifting her gaze to meet Elijah's, "because when a stake went through my heart, I then just woke up good as new. So in other words, I cannot die."
Both Elena and Elijah's eyes widened in surprise at her words. What they didn't know was that Mira had been the one to stake herself not long after turning. It was how she learnt she was truly meant to live forever and she believed it was the world cursing her to be stuck on the same planet with her ex lover for the rest of eternity while she was trying to hide from him.
"I woke up in the middle of the woods. The same place I assume you had found me dying," she started her story. "I was confused, scared and lost. I called out for all of you, yet now one was around. Well except my mother of course."
This piqued Elijah's interest. He could see it pained her to think about this time. Hell, it pained him to think about Mira's lifeless body in his broken brother's arms.
"She was shocked, clearly she didn't expect me to wake up," Mira continued. "She quickly came to some conclusion of what had happened. It took me a minute to remember dying or better yet how I died."
"How did you die?" Elena questioned. Her eyes full of curiosity for the hybrids story.
"My mother and Elijah's parents had cornered me at my lowest. I was a simple witch at the time or so I thought." Mira stood up, looking over the photos in the Lockwoods living room as she went on. "Mine and Elijah's mothers were jealous. According to them I was a different kind of witch, stronger than most. I thought they were crazy. Elijah's father had went on to literally stab me in the back with his sword."
Elena lowly gasped as she turned to Elijah only to see his eyes glisten with sorrow. Mira looked down trying to hold back her tears.
"The last thing I remembered was being in Klaus' arms and coming to peace with my death."
"You and Klaus..." Elena started slowly.
"We were together," Mimi finished. "We were lovesick teenagers, one might say." She than gestured to Elijah, "his siblings were my best friends."
"And while we thought she was gone forever, she had been alive this entire time," Elijah added. His eyes never wavering from Mira.
"So for the past millennium I've been hiding from Klaus. Letting him believe I was dead," the older girl concluded.
"Why?" The Gilbert asked.
"Because when I woke up my emotions were heightened. My mother used that to her advantage. Which made me angry. What she didn't expect for me to still have these," Mira paused to hold out her hand and simply lit a candle that was on a table in front of Elena.
The doppelgängers eyes widened in shock, "you're still a witch. How is that possible."
Mimi smirked, "like I said, I'm not your regular witch. Don't ask me for an explanation because I'm still looking for one myself."
"So what are you?"
"I'm two different species, a vampire and a witch. A hybrid some say."
Elijah realised in that moment that Klaus and Mira still seemed to have a lot in common. Still as perfect for each other as they were a thousand years ago.
Elena shook her head in disbelief. It only seemed to set in that she had been picking a battle with a thousand year old hybrid, not knowing just yet that she soon would be battling two of them.
"What ever happened to your mother?" Elijah asked after a moment of silence.
Mira gave him a puzzled look, "you don't know?" She wondered.
"Know what? All I know is the day after your death your mother disappeared, your father was found dead and your brother had left also."
"You never saw her body?" Mira questioned once again. Elijah shook his head 'no' in response. So the hybrid explained, "as I said, I was a new vampire, who's emotions were heightened and the hunger was insatiable. My mother was saying things that quickly angered me, pissing me off beyond belief. So I threw her against the tree with my powers, shocking us both. I threw her so hard she began bleeding. I couldn't control myself and I ended up drinking her dry."
Both Elijah and Elena were stunned to silence once again. The Emberson had told the story so casually. As if the fact she murdered her mother had no effect on her what so ever.
"Anyway, enough about me. Back to the topic at hand," Mimi changed the subject. Trying to be rid of the tension. "Klaus and the sacrifice."
Elijah pondered on how Mira didn't explain why she hid all these years but he figured that was a story to be told when the human wasn't around. He noticed how quickly she wanted to change the subject as well, so he decided to talk about later on.
"So," Elena cleared her throat and turned to the Mikaelson. "Klaus is your brother. And you want him dead?" She looked back at Mira, "you're just going to let this happen?"
Elijah and Mira made eye contact. Neither of them seem to want to answer.
The vampire spoke first, "I need some air. I'm still feeling a tad, dead. Come." He walked off leaving the two females to follow after him.
━━━━━━━
"So as you've seen, and as Mimi here already established, nothing can kill an Original. Not Sun, not fire, not even a werewolf bite. Only the wood from one tree. A tree my family made sure burned," Elijah explained.
They were now outside, in the backyard of the mansion. Mira walked beside Elijah with Elena on his other side.
"That's where the white ash for the dagger comes from," Elena concluded.
"Yes. The witches won't allow anything truly immortal to walk the earth. Every creature needs to have a weakness in order to maintain the balance."
"Witches are a pain in the ass," Mimi remarked, receiving amused looks.
"So the Sun can't kill an Original. Why is Klaus so obsessed with breaking the Sun and Moon curse?"
"Right. The curse of the sun and the moon. It's all so, biblical-sounding, don't you think?" Elijah smiled, confusing the girls.
Mira tilted her head, "what do you know, that we don't?"
Elijah told his story, explaining how Klaus was the one to draw the Aztec sketches.
"I don't understand. So Klaus drew the Aztec sketches about the curse?" Elena asked.
"Roman scrolls, African tribal etchings, and any other culture or continent we felt like planting in it," Elijah said.
"But why?
"It would make discovering the existence of a doppelgänger easier or even finding some long, lost moonstone to have every single member of two warring species looking out for it," Mira stated in realisation. Though she was still trying to figure out what it had to do with Klaus.
Elena looked between the two, still not completely catching on, "So it's not Aztec at all?"
"The curse of the Sun and the Moon is fake. It doesn't exist," Elijah revealed. Then he walked away with slightly confused Mimi in tow, leaving behind a baffled Elena.
Mimi was trying to puzzle together what the curse really was. Over the years she had heard both werewolves and vampires speak of the curse and to find out it was fake was even shocking for her.
"So, you and Klaus faked the sun and moon curse. Having everyone trying to break something that wasn't real," Mimi comprehended.
"That is correct," Elijah nodded.
"But if there's no curse-" Elijah interjected Elena.
"There's a curse. Just not that one. The real one's much worse. It's a curse placed on Klaus. Klaus has been trying to break it for the last thousand years. And you are his only hope."
"What is this curse?"
Mimi huffed as she heard Elena phone ring in Elijah's pocket for what felt like the hundredth time.
Elijah held it out to her, "Your phone will not stop its incessant buzzing. Answer it, please."
She walked off, leaving the two originals alone.
"Does he know that you are alive?" Elijah asked the vamp-witch.
Mimi pursed her lips, "yes."
Elijah's eyes widened for a second, "I believed he would have taken you captive when he found out. Yet here you are."
Mira scoffed, "Elijah, he couldn't hold me captive even if he tried." The Mikaelson let out an amused chuckle. "Which he didn't exactly get the chance to anyway."
"What do you mean?" He frowned in confusion.
The Emberson girl sighed, "I got overwhelmed and ran. It was too much."
Elijah opened his mouth to reply but Elena rushed back over looking worried.
"Klaus went after Jenna. I have to go to her."
Elijah stared blankly, "I'm afraid that wasn't part of today's arrangement."
"She's my family, Elijah. I have to. I'll be back. You have my word," the doppelgänger urged.
"That doesn't mean a thing until you live up to it," Mimi deadpanned.
Elena gave her a grateful look, "Thank you."
Mira watched her go, while Elijah looked at her. "Why did you let her go?"
"Because, despite not having much family left. It still means something to me." Mimi smiled sadly, "I guess that's one thing about me that never changed."
━━━━━━━
Mira had left Elijah to have a moment alone, now sitting back inside of the Lockwoods.
Her thoughts were on Klaus. She felt as if everything were happening too quickly, it was giving her a constant migraine. She couldn't help but wonder why she let herself get into this situation. Things felt more simple when no one knew she was alive, now it was too complicated for her to comprehend.
On top of that, she had this weird feeling in her chest that something was going to happen. She believed it had to do with this curse she was just now finding out is fake. And with her eyes turning purple at random times, a lot had been on the hybrid's brain.
"You seem to have a lot on your mind," Elijah's voice snapped Mimi from her train of thought.
The brunette girl chuckled, "yeah, you could definitely say that."
"Do you ever regret it?" Elijah asked after a moment of silence, confusing Mira as to what he meant.
"Regret what?"
He elaborated, "do you regret staying away from us for all these years?"
Mira was stunned, not expecting him to ask that. She wasn't even sure how to answer, did she regret it? She had never really thought about it considering she hated to think about it. To anyone it would seem like a simple question, which it was. But to Mira it was hard to respond, part of her mostly wanted to say yes, but there was something in her that wanted to say no.
Because despite missing the people she saw as her family or the guy she believed was once the love of her life, there were little things that she enjoyed being away from them. Like less chaos, from the rumours she had heard the Mikaelson siblings had quite the chaotic time in their vampire years. And if she had stayed with them, chances are she never would have found Adelaide or Elliana.
"I regret letting you all believe I was dead, that wasn't fair of me," she replied. "But I don't regret staying away." She watched Elijah look away with a frown at that, so she continued. "It was never going to be the same. I needed time, a lot of it apparently to figure myself out. I also don't think you all could have handled both me and Klaus in our new ways together," they both laughed at that.
Elijah's smile slowly disappeared as he looked back to the hybrid, "we all grieved, in different ways it hit us incredibly hard. Especially Klaus. We grieved someone that was never really dead."
Mimi shook her head with a sad smile, "you grieved the human me, Lijah. The girl that died in Niklaus' arms all those years ago is not the one sitting in front of you right now. You grieved the girl you all grew up with, the girl you once knew and loved. She truly died that night."
The two fell back into silence, a now comfortable one while Elijah let her words settle in. He knew she was right, but he didn't want to believe she had become a completely different person. Especially after how he had to watch Klaus change over time.
"You know, I remember when you and Rebekah would pull those pranks on us," Elijah started randomly. "Stealing our swords, pushing us into the river, quietly following us into the woods just to jump out and scare us."
Mimi smiled at the memory, adding, "then you boys would do something to get us back. Like stealing our dresses or terrifying the life out of us."
"We haven't quite smiled or laughed like we used to since we lost you and Matteo."
"It wasn't the same for me and my brother either," Mira stated.
Elijah raised a brow as his thoughts went to the black haired boy who was close to his younger brother, "Matteo. Is he..." he didn't want to say it, scared of the fact it was true.
"Dead?" The Emberson girl finished for him. "No, he's still alive or undead I guess you could say."
"He is a vampire?"
"Yep, turned him myself just a few months after I had turned. He was the first person I ever turned," Mira confirmed with a nod. "Still a pain in my ass though."
"How did you know how to turn him?" Elijah asked, curiously.
Mimi shrugged, "I didn't. He had gotten sick, practically on his deathbed. I had searched every grimoire I could possibly find trying to save him but my magic - despite still having them - have been somewhat dormant since I had turned. I somehow just had this feeling that I had to give him my blood. Then he had died and I thought I had lost him for good until he gasped awake."
Elijah was grateful Matteo was still alive as well. He knew Kol would be happy his best friend is alive but pissed that he didn't know for all these years.
"I'm glad you're both okay. I know Kol and Rebekah would be very pleased to know their best friends are okay," Elijah smiled.
Mimi couldn't help but frown at the thought of them. Kol and Rebekah were stubborn and would probably hold it against both her and Matteo for hiding from them. She missed them a lot though and wondered where they were. Sometimes when she would check in on the Mikaelson's over the years the two would be nowhere to be found.
"Where are they?" She questioned.
Elijah sighed, he was afraid to tell her. "Niklaus, over the years grew paranoid. He hated when things didn't go his way. So he found cruel ways to torture us." Mimi furrowed her brows, confused on where the story was going. "The dagger and white oak ash that the Salvatore's used on me is what Klaus used on us when he believed we betrayed him. He had enough made for each of us as well as coffins. He has Rebekah, Kol and Finn currently daggered."
Shaking her head, she asked, "you couldn't find them and take out the daggers?"
Elijah looked down, "he told me he threw them into the ocean. That is why I want to kill him, Mimi. Our family is destroyed because of him."
Mimi's mouth gaped. There was no way Kol, Rebekah and Finn were gone for good thanks to Klaus. She could believe him daggering them, but throwing their body's into the ocean was something even she couldn't fathom.
"What if he didn't?" She responded.
Elijah narrowed his eyes, "why would he lie?" He retorted.
"So you wouldn't look for them. I know it's been a thousand years, I don't know him as well as I once did and that Klaus has changed but Elijah, there is no way he could have thrown their body's away like that," Mimi rambled.
"There is no way to know for sure," Elijah sighed. "Either way, Niklaus needs to be stopped, Mimi. One way or another. He is too far gone."
Mira pursed her lips, "you'd really kill him? Help the Salvatore's save their doppelgänger?"
"I have no other choice at this point," he whispered.
She shook her head, "I won't help you hurt him. You understand that, right?"
Elijah nodded with a small smile, "I know. And I do understand."
"I'm going to find out if he really threw them away. If he doesn't, I will get them back," she declared. "I promise."
He chuckled, "I do believe if anyone can get through to him, it would be you. He could never move on from you or your death."
"I couldn't either."
The two fell into that silence again. Having nothing else they wanted to say. So they enjoyed each other's presence. Elijah had practically been another older brother to Mira, other than Kol he was who she had been closest with out of Klaus' brothers.
━━━━━━━
It had been dark out when Elena finally arrived back. Elijah had been close to telling Mira about Klaus' secret without having Elena present but she had stopped him from speaking by her entering.
"Tell me. What is Klaus's curse?" Elena demanded immediately.
"Keep making demands and you're going to have a missing tongue," Mimi smiled sweetly, ignoring Elijah's warning looks.
"Please," He gestured for Elena to sit. Which she did, staring at him expectantly. "My family was quite close," he began, "but Klaus and my father did not get on too well." Mimi avoided his eyes as he said that. Remembering Klaus crying to her about his father hurting him.
"When we became vampires, we discovered the truth. Klaus was not my father's son." This was what Mira never had the chance to know, taking her by surprise.
"What?" She whispered in shock.
"My mother had been unfaithful many years before. This was her darkest secret. Klaus is from a different bloodline. Of course, when my father discovered this, he hunted down and he killed my mother's lover and his entire family. Not realizing, of course, that he was igniting a war between species that rages until this day."
"So Klaus' real father was from a werewolf bloodline?" Elena asked. "What does that make Klaus? A werewolf? Or a vampire?"
"He's both. A hybrid would be deadlier than any werewolf or vampire. We believed he was the only one. Until I found Mira. Nature would not stand for such an imbalance of power. Therefore the witches, the servants of nature, saw to it that my brother's werewolf side would become dormant," Elijah explained. "I'm starting to realise he isn't the only one," he said with his gaze on Mimi.
This was sounding extremely familiar to the Emberson girl. Having said earlier on that her powers felt slightly dormant.
"And he's like Mira?" The doppelgänger wondered, glancing at the girl.
"Technically he is half wolf, half vampire. However, Mimi is half witch, half vampire. But, they are both indeed hybrid," the vampire informed.
This was just adding to Mira's stress. Overwhelming her to the point she wanted to sleep and never wake up.
"So the curse that Klaus wants to break, what is it?" Mira questioned.
"He wants to trigger that part of him that's a werewolf. If allowed, Klaus would sire his own bloodline. He'd build his own race. Endangering not just vampires, but everyone."
"But you helped him?"
"I helped him because I loved him. That's changed, now he must die," Elijah eyes locked with Mira. She looked exceedingly tired and mentally drained, but also worried. Clearly she wasn't going to sit back and watch them kill him.
"We have the dagger now. We can stop him," Elena declared.
Mimi rolled her eyes. Despite only just learning this new information, she knew it was never going to be that easy. Even if it were she would be there to make it harder for them.
"When a werewolf is wounded by silver, it heals. An Original can't be killed by anything but white oak ash on a silver dagger. So you see the conundrum. The dagger does not work."
"What, are you saying that Klaus can't be killed?" Elena scoffed in disbelief.
"There's one way to kill any supernatural species," Elijah told them, "at the hands of the servants of nature themselves."
"A witch. If they can channel that much power. But it would kill them." Slowly the human girl turned to Mira, "Except for one that can't die."
Mimi's eyes widened. She abruptly stood from the couch, "No, definitely not."
Elijah looked between the two, not liking what Elena was asking of Mira. Clearly she didn't really know what she was asking.
"You could really help us, Mira. Bonnie would die, you wouldn't, please," Elena pleaded.
The hybrid scoffed, "your pleases mean nothing to me. I am not helping you, not this time."
"What's stopping you? I mean Elijah's willing to kill his own brother, and you're saying no? You haven't even seen Klaus in a-"
"Stop, Elena!" Mimi exclaimed. "You have no idea what you're talking about, so I suggest you stop talking. I will not do this, especially not to save you. I owe you all nothing."
Elena's mouth shut with a clench jaw. She glared at the Emberson, who only ignored her and turned to Elijah.
"I'm sorry, Lijah. I just can't help you with this."
Elijah waved her off, "I know that. Thank you for today, I've missed our talks greatly."
She smiled softly to him before rushing out with her enhanced speed, not even sparing Elena a glance. It had been a longer day than she intended.
━━━━━━━
When Mira had been a little girl, she would seek comfort from the animals she could find in the forest. It was a harmless habit she had of running away when things scared or overwhelmed her.
She hated that about herself. That she would run from her problems, that wasn't who she wanted to be. Which is why she stayed in Mystic Falls awaiting Klaus' arrival. Because she was sick of running away and hiding.
Over time the harmless habit faded out, no longer seeking comfort from animals. Now she'd seek comfort in humans, or better yet, feeding on them. Which was why she was heading to the Mystic Grill. To drink alcohol and find some poor innocent to drain.
As she crossed the road to enter the bar, she was stopped. Instantly she sensed the man that was now standing in front of her was a warlock. "Who the hell are you?" She asked defensively.
"I'm Maddox," he introduced. "Klaus has sent me, to bring you to him."
Mimi raised a brow, "seriously?" She received a nod. "Okay, well you tell Klaus, he can come and find me himself."
"He's a bit busy at the moment," Maddox responded, side stepping to stop her from passing. "He wants you to be there when he returns to his rightful body."
This caused Mira to freeze. Despite the utter confusion, - which she chose to ignore - she had the chance to finally see the real Klaus face to face, after so long. Even if that made her want to cry she couldn't turn the option away.
She exhaled in annoyance, "fine. Lead the way then." She gestured for him to start walking.
He did and she followed without another word.
━━━━━━━
Mimi was hesitant to follow Maddox into Alaric's apartment. The sight in front of her was almost laughable. A witch was on her knees surrounded by candles in front of a large box. Maddox was quick to join her side down on their knees. Klaus-Ric was standing beside the box with his eyes closed and head bowed, not taking notice of her presence.
Mimi felt eyes boring into her. She turned to find Katherine standing there, looking at her in confusion.
"What are you doing here?" The doppelgänger mouthed. Mira just shrugged with a tired look before looking back at the scene in front. She had enough of that face for one day.
"Phasmatos Tribum, Nas Ex Veras, Uenes Phasmatos Et Sonos. Ex Tutam Exum Lamia Matus," the witch and warlock chanted.
The candle light grew as they stopped. They turned their attention to the man standing before them as did the female hybrid and vampire.
Alaric gasped as he looked up at everyone in front of him, his gaze landing on the two brunettes "Elena? Mira?" He furrowed his brows before passing out.
Mimi held her breath as Maddox stood up and opened the box. Slowly, Klaus walked out of it in his normal form while looking down at Alaric.
Mimi couldn't stop herself from exhaling deeply at the sight of him. He looked exactly the same as a thousand years ago apart from the hair and clothes. He still managed to take her breath away and cause her heart to thump in her chest.
"Now that's more like it," he smirked while looking at his warlock.
Slowly his eyes trailed over to the disbelieving brunette. Still not used to the fact that she is in front of him. He couldn't stop his smirk from turning into a soft smile when he locked eyes with her. He was glad he could face her in his original body now.
"Hello, love."
Yes it's been forever, I'm sorry. I am still here.
You will be getting your Klaus and Mimi scenes from now on to make up for it.
I will publish the next chapter as soon as I can
Also thank you so much for 100k reads!! This book and you all mean a lot to me :)
