Chapter 13 | The Last Dance

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Klaus, who was still in Alaric's body, opened Alaric's closet, groaning in disgust at the outfits.

"Who is this guy, Safari Sam?" He grimaced.

He pulled out two shirts, showing them to Katherine who was stuck in a chair, "bad, or badder?"

"The dark colors suit you better," Katherine sighed.

"Oh, thank you, honey," he smiled as he threw one of the shirts on the bed. "Okay, pop quiz. The dagger and white ash are in the Salvatores' possession, correct?"

"The dagger was used to kill Elijah," Katherine informed. "You'll find him in the basement of the Salvatore house."

Klaus-Ric nodded, "Okay, that dagger needs to stay exactly where it is. The last thing I need to do is resurrect Elijah." He scoffed, "Oh, that guy is a buzzkill."

"Don't forget you're on the outs with your girlfriend Jenna," the Pierce vampire added.

"Right. Elena's aunt. For all the lies about Isobel. What else?"

"That's it."

Klaus-Ric stepped closer to her, stroking back her hair. Katherine flinched at his touch. "Oh, so jumpy," he pouted mockingly.

"Please, just, kill me," Katherine begged. "I've told you everything that I know."

Klaus-Ric leaned down, closer to her, "You see, I believe that you believe that, but what would you not know? What could they be keeping from you? Hmm? Anything?" He looked directly in her eyes, compelling her, "Tell me."

"They were trying to see if Bonnie could find a way to kill an Original without a dagger."

"Bonnie the best friend? I thought you said she didn't have her powers anymore," he stood and crossed his arms.

"She doesn't or didn't. I don't know. You kidnapped me, remember? I'm kinda out of the loop," she snapped.

"Well, we'll have to get to the bottom of that," he announced.

"There is also a girl, Adelaide. She sort of on the outs with the group at the moment but she's involved."

Klaus-Ric hummed, "is she supernatural?"

"Vampire, older than me. She's blonde, a slight Russian accent and she's sort of bitchy."

"Well, let's hope she stays out of my way for her own sake," he looked back down at Katherine and saw the confused expression on her face.

"And there's something else you should know," she stated.

"What is it?" He pressed, when she paused.

Katherine shook her head, eyes set on the ground. She didn't understand how she didn't fess up about a certain female hybrid the second he compelled her.

"Mm," she stuttered, unable to utter her name.

Klaus-Ric grabbed a hold of her face roughly, "What are you trying to tell me, Katerina?"

"I, I can't tell you," she mumbled.

"Why?"

She squeezed her eyes shut, "I literally can not utter the words, Klaus."

Klaus-Ric stepped back with a furrowed brow, "you've been compelled?"

Katherine shrugged, "I don't know or I don't remember."

She figured Mira had done something to her and made her forget about it. 'That Bitch' the Petrova thought to herself.

"It couldn't have been Elijah, the compulsion would have worn off when he was daggered. So what or who is stopping you?"

"Like I told you, I don't know," she snapped

"What can you tell me?" He queried.

Katherine inhaled sharply, "someone is here in Mystic Falls, from your past. Someone you won't see coming."

Klaus-Ric tilted his head in curiosity, "who?"

"That's what I seem to not be able to tell you."

He stared into her eyes, seeing nothing but the truth telling him she wasn't lying. He groaned loudly, it was frustrating him to no end. "Are they working against me?" He wondered.

"I don't think so, I'm pretty sure everyone is angry at her for lying about knowing you."

"Her?"

"Yes, her."

Klaus looked away in thought and frustration. Frustrated that he couldn't get anymore information. He couldn't understand who this her was from his past. There were hardly a hand full of people he could think of and only one truly scared him, but that was impossible. Simply because she was dead.

He was also confused on what was stopping Katherine from saying it, the only vampires that could compel other vampires were him because the rest were daggered.

Katherine thought she changed the subject. "Please, just kill me, Klaus, and be done with it. I told you everything I could," she pleaded.

"And show you kindness?" Klaus-Ric frowned deeply, "I've searched for you for over 500 years. Your death is going to last at least half that long."

Trying to forget the information about someone from his past, he took out a switchblade from his pocket, "I want you to take this knife and stab yourself." She reluctantly took the knife and did as she was told, wounding her leg.

"Now take it out," he instructed, causing her to let out a groan when she did it. "Now while I'm gone, I want you to do that over and over and over again and if you get bored, switch legs."

"Where are you going?"

"I'm gonna go lay eyes on my doppelgänger and try and find this person you are unable to speak of," he smiled, leaving a soft kiss on her forehead.

Klaus-Ric tutted, "Oh, don't look so glum, Katerina. The fun is just beginning." He walked off towards the door, grabbing a coat, "Again."

Katherine let out a shout as she stabbed herself once again. For some reason unknown to her, she hoped Mira had taken her advice and got the hell out of town because it won't take long for Klaus to find her now.

━━━━━━━

Mira sat up with a loud gasp, her hand going to her chest as she tried to catch her breath. Her heart was pounding in her chest so fast she thought it might burst out. With an exasperated groan, her face fell into her hands as she squeezed her eyes shut.

Her mind had been racing ever since last night. After Katherine's information, her brother calling, the glowing eyes and let's not forget Klaus. Although it felt like something more, there had been this pit in her stomach. It was as if it was trying to tell her something bad was going to happen.

Usually when she had these feelings she turned out to be right. She was just hoping that it wasn't what or better yet who she thought it was.

Exhaling sharply she fell back into the comfort of her bed, more than ready to fall back to sleep. Of course that didn't work out.

"Wakey wakey, sleepy baby!" Adelaide shouted as she bursted into her best friend's room.

"Get out!" Mimi murmured as she bought the covers over her face.

"No can do," Addie smiled as she pushed the curtains back letting the sun shine throughout the room brightly causing Mira to let out another whine. "Get up."

Mimi refused and kept a tight grip on the duvet when Adelaide began to pull on it, "Adelaide, stop."

"We have to get to school, Mira. You can't keep hiding for the rest of eternity," the Rymer girl grinned when she successfully pulled the duvet away from the brunette.

"I can sure as hell try. Can I have my blanket back?" Mira finally sat up with a pout and a glare.

Addie huffed, "You've only been to school for one day, you have to go back eventually."

"I'm a thousand year old vampire for goodness sake, Addie. I do not need high school," Mira pointed out.

"And yet you still look like your 17 year old self," Addie snapped back.

"Technically when I died I was just a month away from 18. So I look like my 18 year old self, thank you very much," Mimi mused.

"And technically," Addie mocked. "You still have a year left of school."

Mimi blew out a breath, "you don't quit do you. I'm not going to school."

"And when teachers begin to ask where you are?"

The brunette gave her a look, "compel them to mind their own goddamn business, duh."

"You're really not gonna go, are you?" Adelaide asked defeatedly.

"Nope, having a breakdown. No time for school!" the hybrid proclaimed as she pulled the duvet out of the blonde's hands.

Adelaide scoffed, "I hate how dramatic you are."

"Good!" Mimi shouted with an attitude.

"I'll be back as soon as school is over, Caroline will probably be around to scold you for skipping," Addie said as she walked down the stairs.

"Whatever," Mimi rolled her eyes as she laid back down to sleep her worries away.

"And she's the mature one," Adelaide mocked, walking out the front door.

━━━━━━━

Caroline stood in front of her locker, grabbing her books. She let out a squeal as someone came up shouting behind her. She spun around only to find an amused Adelaide.

"What the hell, Addie?" She breathed out.

"Sorry," the older blonde chuckled as she threw an arm over Caroline's shoulders. "You're quite jumpy this morning."

"Oh, well, when someone's sneaking up behind that's usually a normal reaction," the Forbes girl rolled her eyes. She looked behind hoping to see a certain brunette but of course didn't. "Where is she?"

Adelaide sighed, "she wouldn't get out of bed. Trust me I tried."

"Adelaide," Caroline slapped her arm. "I told you to make sure she came today."

Addie slapped her back, "she's literally impossible. Why didn't you come and try to drag her out of bed?"

"Because I don't live with her," the younger blonde hissed.

"Lucky you," Adelaide mumbled.

Caroline shook her head, "I hope she knows she's coming to the decade dance with us."

"Decade dance?" Addie furrowed her brows. "I'm not even going to that and I know for a fact Mira won't be either."

Caroline glared, "yes you are. We will be going over to yours after school and if Mimi's not out of bed there's going to be problems."

"It's the sixties, believe me when I say the sixties sucked. Mimi will back me up on that."

"We're not having this discussion right now, especially without Mira present. You have to get to Alaric's class, I have English."

"History. Without you or Mimi. Yay." Addie cheered sarcastically as Caroline pulled her along. "I'm starting to think I should have copied Mimi's tactics and stayed home."

Caroline rolled her eyes, "stop being a baby and get to class."

Adelaide stopped outside of history watching Caroline walk off to her class. The younger blonde looked over her shoulder giving Addie a wave. The Rymer girl replied with the middle finger.

"Bitch!" Caroline called out. Addie just laughed as she walked into the classroom.

As Addie entered she felt eyes on her. Looking up to see Elena, Stefan and Bonnie staring at her as if they were prepared for her to start killing every human in the room. She rolled her eyes as she took her seat closest to the window.

She sat twirling her pen when she heard Bonnie try and whisper to Elena, "where's Mira?"

Elena responded with a shrug, "who knows what either of them are ever really up to."

Adelaide shook her head with a smirk, 'are they dumb or just ignorant' she wondered. She could hear them or did they forget about that.

"Hello, class," Klaus-Ric suddenly entered the room, clearing his throat. "What are we learning today?" He pondered as he flipped through a book.

"With the decade dance tonight, we've been covering the sixties all week." A girl, Dana, reminded him.

"Right. The sixties," he sighed. His gaze landed on Elena who was too busy sharing glances with Bonnie as they continued to eye at a self-amused Adelaide.

Addie frowned as she noticed his eyes lingering a little too long. She had been to this class a few times now and she felt as if Alaric was acting rather weird.

"The, uh, ahem," Klaus-Ric cleared his throat. "The sixties. I wish there was something good I could say about the sixties, but," he followed the doppelgängers gaze towards the blonde, who only raised a brow at him. "Actually, they kind of sucked. Except for the Beatles, of course. They made it bearable."

"Uh, what else was there? The Cuban missile thing, the, we walked on the moon. There was Watergate," he rambled as he paced.

"Watergate was the seventies, Ric," Elena corrected. Noticing the looks she received from her classmates she backtracked, "I, I mean, Mr. Saltzman."

"Subtle." Adelaide chuckled, causing the class to giggle and Elena to look down embarrassed. Klaus-Ric turned back to her curiously, hiding a smirk at her attitude. He figured she was the blonde Katherine had told him about.

Snapping out of it and turning back to the class, "Right. It all kind of mushes together up here, the sixties, seventies. Thank you, Elena."

Stefan was glaring at Adelaide who was looking at him smugly. "Cut it out Adelaide," he murmured so only the ones with enhanced hearing could hear.

"Cut what out, Stef?" the blonde shrugged innocently.

Klaus-Ric eyed them curiously, he couldn't help but wonder what was causing the tension that was quite easy to sense between all of them.

━━━━━━━

Adelaide spotted Caroline waving frantically at her near the cafeteria doors.

"How was class?" The cheerful blonde asked as she hooked her arms with Adelaide, walking into the cafeteria.

"Weird. Don't ask."

Caroline gave her a strange look, before she spotted Elena and Bonnie sitting at a table. "I have to ask Bonnie and Elena something, come Ad's."

"No, no, no. I've had enough of those two for one day. Do not drag me over there Caroline Forbes," Addie tried to pull away but her friend didn't let up.

So ignoring her protests, Care smiled at her two other friends as she stood in front of them. Elena and Bonnie gave her small awkward smiles not completely comfortable in the older vampire's presence.

"Hey, Caroline. What's up?" Elena asked, trying to ignore Addie.

"Not much, I was wondering if-" she had been interrupted by Dana, who rushed over.

"Hey, Elena, there you are. Okay. This is going to sound freaky, but this totally hot guy just asked me to ask you if you're going to the dance tonight," the human girl smiled brightly.

Addie raised a brow at her as she took a sip of her water.

"Tell him she has a boyfriend." Bonnie stated as if it were obvious.

"You could at least meet him. He'll be at the dance tonight. Look for him. His name is Klaus."

Adelaide choked on the water she had been drinking as soon as she heard the name. Caroline quickly turned to her with wide eyes.

"Sorry, Dana, what did you just say?" Caroline queried before anyone else.

"His name's Klaus," Dana said slowly. "I know the name's stupid, but I swear he's hot."

Bonnie looked around as if she would spot him, "Where is he? Is he here?"

Dana frowned, "I don't know."

"She's been compelled," Adelaide deadpanned.

"But he wants to know if you'll save him the last dance," Dana continued. "How cute is that?"

"Adorable," the Rymer girl smiled sarcastically. She then grabbed Dana's shoulder and stared into her eyes. "Walk away, forget any of this ever happened."

The group of girls watched the oblivious girl walk away without a second glance. In an instant Elena's eyes went to Adelaide.

"Where is he, Adelaide? Better yet, where's Mira?" The doppelgänger inquired. "Off plotting with him somewhere?"

Addie scoffed, "fuck off, Elena." She stormed out more than ready to go home.

Caroline went to follow after her but Elena caught her wrist, "you're not seriously going after her, are you?"

Caroline snatched her hand away, "she's my friend, Elena. I trust her and Mimi."

"Mimi?" Bonnie frowned.

The Forbes girl rolled her eyes, "I have to go."

With that she followed after the girl who she cared deeply for, maybe even more than she actually knew. Leaving behind her best friends who were left feeling as if Caroline was slipping away and being manipulated by the older girls.

━━━━━━━

Adelaide rushed out of the cafeteria. She needed to get home and tell Mimi everything quickly, she also didn't have time for Elena.

As she walked down the empty hall, she stopped when she heard Caroline behind her calling out.

"I don't have time for this, Care. I have to get home," she huffed when the younger girl sped in front of her.

"To do what? Are you gonna tell her?" Caroline queried.

Addie nodded, "Yes, I'm gonna tell her but I have no idea how she's gonna take it."

"Her and Klaus have history, right? Like there's more to it than anyone knows." Caroline questioned, cautiously. She hadn't actually asked about Mimi and Klaus since she believed Mira would open up when she was ready.

"Yeah, a lot of history," Adelaide confirmed as she looked off in thought. "I have to go, Care. Stop by after school finishes, I have a feeling we will be going to the dance after all."

Caroline gave a reassuring smile and squeezed her shoulder, "everything will be okay, Addie."

Adelaide just smiled back as she walked off, out of the school leaving Caroline standing and watching after her.

Unbeknownst to the two, they had been standing outside of Alaric's classroom where Klaus-Ric had been sitting. Klaus heard the entire conversation and he was left with an unsettling feeling in his stomach.

Who was this person he had history with?

━━━━━━━

Mimi was still in bed, awake and staring at the ceiling. She felt her phone vibrate beside her. Exhaling as she sat up to read the message.

Addie:
911! Coming home, now.

Mira furrowed her brows pondering on what could have possibly happened at school that was so drastic and had Adelaide rushing home.

She begrudgingly stood up from her bed, missing the warmth of it already. She was trying to shut out the world but apparently the universe was against her. She rolled her eyes upon hearing the front door slam.

"Mira! Get your lazy ass down here!" Addie shouted from the foyer.

"Why are you shouting?" Mimi narrowed her eyes at her best friend as she walked down the stairs.

"Does 911 mean nothing to you?"

The hybrid crossed her arms, "I'm gonna need a little more context before I freak out like you."

"Well you're about to freak out," Addie mumbled to herself but Mimi caught it.

"What's wrong, Ad's?" The brunette questioned indifferently.

"Klaus is here, Mimi."

The short sentence got Mira's attention completely, causing her to come out of her bored state. "What?" She asked in a whisper, really hoping she heard wrong.

"I was with Caroline, who was talking to Elena and Bonnie when a girl came up to Elena. The girl was compelled to tell Elena to save Klaus a dance. He is in Mystic Falls, I just don't know where," Adelaide said in one breath.

Mira took a deep breath as she sat on the bottom of the stairs. Her head was spinning and her heart was pounding. It was finally happening.

"Mimi." Addie snapped her from her thoughts, she had been so out of it she hadn't realized the blonde was crouched in front of her. "If you want we can leave, right now. Because if we don't there's no going back."

Mimi shook her head, "I need to see him, Ad's. I want to."

"And if it goes bad?"

"There's a high chance it's going to be bad, I'll be shocked if it doesn't," the hybrid chuckled silently. "You said he'd be at some dance?"

Addie hummed, "the 60's dance that's on tonight. Caroline was planning on making us go."

"What a surprise," Mimi said sarcastically. She didn't want to talk about Klaus at that moment because it made everything more real. "How was school?"

Adelaide moved to sit next to her, resting her head on the brunette's shoulder. "Alright. History was a little strange."

"Strange?" Mira scrunched up her face giving the blonde a look to go on.

"Alaric was acting a little weird, I mean maybe it was just me but he just seemed a little out of it. He also suddenly has a staring problem," Addie rambled.

Mimi frowned, that seemed unusual. "Maybe Damon pissed him off, somehow."

The Rymer chuckled, "wouldn't surprise me." She turned to her best friend with a face full of concern, "are you sure you're okay?"

Mimi gave her hand a squeeze, "I'm sure." She smiled but Addie was left unconvinced as her friend could barely meet her eyes.

━━━━━━━

"So we go to the dance, we find him," Damon said after Elena and Bonnie explained what had happened.

They all stood in in the Salvatore's living room with Stefan as well, trying to figure things out.

"Really? How are we going to do that?" Stefan questioned, "We don't even know what he looks like."

"Something tells me he's not going to be sixteen and pimply," Damon remarked.

"He could be anywhere at any time. He compelled somebody at school," Stefan pointed out. "I guess it's not as safe as you guys thought, huh?"

A knock is heard at the door causing everyone to look over as Klaus-Ric entered.

"Sorry I'm late."

"Hey, I need you to put me down as a chaperone at the dance tonight," Damon said. "Klaus made his first move."

"Okay, so we find him and then what, hmm?" Elena inquired. "What's our plan of attack?"

"Me. I'm the plan. He has no idea how much power I can channel. If you can find him, I can kill him," Bonnie told them.

"That's not going to be that easy," Klaus-Ric chuckled. "I mean, he is the biggest, baddest vampire around."

"Alaric has a point. I mean, what if he..." Damon trailed off before speeding towards Bonnie, but he was stopped when she threw him across the room with her powers.

"Well, I was impressed," Stefan shrugged.

"It doesn't matter if he's an Original. I can take down anyone who comes at me," Bonnie confirmed.

"And what about Mira?" Elena wondered.

Klaus-Ric frowned at her, Mira? That reminded him of one person, but it couldn't have been her, right?

"Yeah, what if she's working with him?" Damon raised a brow. "And let us not forget the warning you received about her. Then the fucking drawing we found of her that was signed by Klaus himself."

Klaus couldn't believe what he was hearing. It was too good to be true and literally impossible. They found a drawing he had drawn of her? Yet, the only girl he had ever drawn was his Mimi.

Bonnie shook her head, "Adelaide seemed genuinely shocked when the girl came over to talk to Elena about him. High chance if Adelaide didn't know then Mira didn't."

"She definitely does now," Elena sighed.

"I can kill him, Elena. And if my theories about Mira are wrong then I could possibly kill her too. I know I can," Bonnie assured.

"You mean Miralette," Damon mumbled bitterly as he looked down. He didn't want Mira to die. But if they killed Klaus they didn't need her coming after them as revenge.

Klaus-Ric froze, that name. "I have to go, I'll see you guys later tonight." He spoke as he walked out quickly.

Everyone stared after him in confusion, noticing his off behaviour but choosing to put it aside and get ready.

━━━━━━━

Katherine was still in a chair. Her leg was covered in blood and the knife was still in her hand. She looked over as she heard the door bang open.

Klaus-Ric stormed in, looking over at Katherine immediately. "Is it her? Is the one you can't tell me about Miralette? The girl Elijah told you about when we met, the one in my drawings?" He asked hastily, eyes almost frantic.

Katherine just stared at him as he paced around.

"She's dead right, Katerina. My Miralette is dead and has been for a millennium. Right?" He finally stopped, looking into her eyes.

Katherine bit her lip, she couldn't tell him. She didn't want to. "I'm sorry, Klaus," she whispered.

Klaus took a step back, breathing heavily. 'It couldn't be true, she is gone' he kept repeating in his head. He looked like a kicked puppy as he stood there staring off to space, lost in his own mind. He thought back to that night — the night that had haunted his dream for a thousand years. The night Mimi left him all alone.

She died in his arms, he had listened to her heart. But he never saw her body afterwards. He remembered running away after Mira took her last breath, not accepting it. He had his breakdown and soon found out he was half wolf, his mother then locked that part of himself away.

But thinking back to the long and horrendous night, nothing seemed to add up. As he thought back to all those traumatic moments that went down, it left him with many questions.

As he stood there racking his brain for any answers, realization dawned upon him. If it was all true — if Mimi was alive, he was going to see her again. For the first time in a long time Klaus Mikaelson was absolutely terrified of that thought alone.

"This witch is all juiced up and aiming to kill," Klaus-Ric quickly changed the subject, not needing anyone to see him breakdown.

Katherine had a confused look on her face as she replied dryly, "that's terrible."

"We're gonna have to kill her, Maddox," he said to the warlock who stood in the kitchen, also slightly puzzled by his change in behaviour. "Do you think this Alaric guy has anything vintage?" He asked Katherine.

He opened a drawer, going through Alaric's shirts only finding many hunting weapons. "Crossbows, wooden bullets and automatics? Who is this guy, again?"

"He's the local vampire hunter," Katherine answered.

"Ahh. Well, that explains the clothing."

"All I could find. Guy likes his bourbon," Maddox spoke, handing Klaus a glass.

"I knew there was something about him I liked," Klaus-Ric took a sip. "There's a high school dance and I'm gonna need you to take out witch bitch."

"If she has that much power, she can sense me coming from a mile away. I won't be able to get near her. You have to do it," Maddox explained.

"In this body?" Klaus-Ric scoffed. "I'm a haggard history teacher. She can easily hurt me. I mean, not me, Klaus me, but you know what I mean."

"No witch could handle channeling that much power. It'll kill her," the warlock informed. "It would kill me. You just have to make her use it."

"You mean like provoking her to death?"

"Won't take long. Just keep attacking her until it kills her. His body, Alaric's, will last longer than hers will."

"How? He's human," Klaus asked, curiously.

"I can help in that department. I can do a spell to protect you."

"Sorry to interrupt, but I have to ask," Katherine spoke, earning their attention. "What are you going to do if a certain someone is there?"

Klaus-Ric raised a brow.

She rolled her eyes, "still can't say her name."

"That isn't your concern," Klaus deadpanned. Not showing any of the multitude of emotions she was feeling on the inside in that moment.

'She couldn't be alive', he tried convincing himself.

━━━━━━━

Mira sighed as she stood in front of her mirror. She was wearing a bright pink and purple floral minidress with flared long sleeves - chunky magenta gogo boots to top it off. Her hair was half down, half up with a headband that matched her dress.

She scrunched her nose in disgust. She had hated the sixties with a passion but that didn't mean she didn't look good during the decade. Especially since none of her outfits looked like the one she was currently sporting at the moment.

Caroline had bought her and Adelaide outfits when she went and bought her own, knowing neither girls were going shopping for the dance. Mira was regretting not going since Caroline didn't take into consideration the hybrid doesn't do bright colors.

Adelaide had a similar outfit except hers was yellow and white with yellow boots, which suited Addie a lot.

As Mimi continued to stare at her reflection, it happened again. Her eyes began to glow purple for longer than ten seconds this time. Her head had been spinning with so much that glowing eyes were the last thing on her mind. She had remembered the conversation she had with Evelyn and Esther before her death, she knew what was happening but she didn't know how.

Mira shook her head as she stepped away from the mirror. The only thing on her mind was Klaus, and how terrified she was about how tonight would go. She wasn't sure how she would face him, but she knew deep down she wanted to.

She walked over to her bedside table, opening it. Her gaze was set on the two boxes in there — one holding her pendant and the other was one she hadn't opened in almost a millennium. she pulled the little black box out, eyes glossing over at the thought of what was inside.

With an extremely deep exhale, she slowly began to open it. The sparkling ring that was inside sitting untouched, taunting her just as it has for all those years. A constant reminder of what she'd never have. Although no matter how much it hurt to think about it, she could never part with it.

She closed it faster than she opened it. Remembering Esther throwing it in her face after toying with her emotions when she woke up undead. Mimi put the box back in the drawer before she heard Adelaide calling out to her that it was time to go.

There was no going back.

━━━━━━━

The school hall was buzzing with teenagers dancing their hearts out. Mimi and Adelaide chuckled at the decorated hippie van in the middle of the room.

"This is giving me horrific flashbacks to the parties in the 60's," Adelaide shuddered.

Mimi giggled, "tell me about it."

The pair heard a squeal come from behind them causing them to quickly turn just in time for Caroline to crash into their arms. "You guys actually came and you both look incredible."

"I don't feel incredible in this outfit," Mira grimaced, earning a shove from the younger blonde.

"Serves you right for not coming to pick out your own dress," Caroline retorted.

"I think I look fabulous." Adelaide boasted with a smirk. Mimi rolled her eyes playfully and Caroline nodded in agreement.

"You look lovely though, sunshine," Mira smiled.

Both Addie and Caroline noticed her slightly
off behaviour despite hiding it well, they didn't comment on knowing the reason behind it.

"I know right," Care winked playfully, earning laughs from the older two girls.

Their conversation was interrupted by Dana who now stood onstage with a microphone. "Thanks for being here, everybody. We have a special shout-out tonight."

"This should be good," Mira muttered sarcastically to her friends as they all watched.

"This is for Elena. From Klaus."

Everyone cheered as a song began playing while the trio of girls stood frozen, slightly stunned by the announcement. They looked over to where everyone's eyes had shifted to see Damon, Bonnie, Jeremy and Stefan standing with an uncomfortable looking Elena.

Mimi began looking around as did everyone else, all looking for the original. Mira knew she was the only person in the room who knew what Klaus looked like and she definitely wasn't able to spot him anywhere.

"What now?" Adelaide question, blandly.

"You go dance," Caroline said. "I have to go find Matt."

"You came with him?" Addie asked with a look Mimi couldn't quite decipher.

"Yep," Caroline grinned. "I'll see you two later."

She walked off without another word.

"Really wish we stayed home," Mimi sighed.

"Me too." the Rymer girl groaned, "and to make things better, baby Salvatore alert."

Mira spun around to see Stefan heading towards her causing her eyes to roll in annoyance.

"I'm going to get us some drinks," Addie excused not trusting herself to hold back from punching Stefan in the face when the accusations started.

"They better have alcohol," Mimi stated, laughing when Adelaide pulled out a flask and shook it with a wink.

"Mira," the younger Salvatore acknowledged curtly.

"Stefan," Mimi reiterated with an eye roll.

"We need to talk."

Mira scoffed, "do we just?"

"Look, I know none of us really trust each other at the moment," Stefan started with a sigh. "But, I need you to tell me where he is, right now."

Mimi groaned, "Even if I wanted to - which I don't, I couldn't tell you. I haven't seen him, Stefan. I haven't seen him in a thousand years."

Stefan found himself believing her. It wasn't hard to see the sadness hidden in her eyes when she spoke about him.

"Well then, help us stop him," the younger vampire began pleading.

Mira couldn't believe he had the audacity to ask that. "No, I don't owe you anything. I was more than willing to help save your girlfriend before but with the way she's been acting I'd rather sit back and watch this thing unfold."

She turned on her heel and strutted off before he could get another word in. He was left wondering if they had all made things worse for themselves with the way that had been treating the brunette.

━━━━━━━

After Stefan had told Damon how the conversation with Mira went, he had decided it was his turn to speak with her. Although it was more likely to piss her off more considering they haven't spoken since he snapped at her.

Mira stood off to the side with Adelaide, watching all the teenagers dance while drinking their now alcoholic punch. She felt like throwing herself into the wall when she saw the raven haired vampire approaching.

"Adelaide, Mira." Damon nodded awkwardly.

Addie immediately groaned, "I am so close to slapping you Salvatore's."

Damon held his hands up in a mock surrender, "easy blondie, I just want to talk."

"Talking never seems to go well for you though, does it?" Mimi remarked in a bored tone.

"Can I talk to you?" He asked, ignoring her comment. He took a glance at Adelaide and added, "alone."

Addie gave Mira a look as if asking if she should walk away or not. The hybrid gave her a reassuring nod causing the blonde to walk away, but not before giving Damon a cold hard glare.

"Both Salvatore brothers coming to talk to me in one night," Mira started the conversation. "Aren't I just one lucky girl?" She asked humorlessly.

Damon cleared his throat, "okay, I know our last conversation didn't end on the best note-"

  "Understatement."

He rolled his eyes before continuing, "but, you did lie to me about quite a lot."

Mira finally turned to look at him, a scowl etched on her face. "I didn't lie, Damon. I just didn't tell you everything there is about me."

"Yeah, I know," Damon scoffed. "Not even your real name apparently. Hm, Miralette." He deadpanned, with a matching scowl to hers.

Mira tensed, although her eyes never faltered as they held each other's gaze waiting for one to break. Damon, — despite being the idiot he was — should have known he was playing a game with someone who wouldn't lose.

"So you know," she stated more than asked. "How do you know?"

"There was a painting of you in the warlock's apartment. It was to a Miralette Emberson signed by Klaus."

"Of course there was," she muttered bitterly.

"But that's not why I came over here." He turned away from her hard gaze, now searching through the crowd of teens.

"Please, do tell."

"I just wanted you to point out to me where Klaus is. Then you can step out of the way and let us do what we have to - which is kill Klaus. We won't bother you anymore." Damon smirked as if his plan would work in his favour.

Mimi couldn't help but laugh at him, "Yeah, that's not how this works, Salvatore. I don't give in to anyones demands - especially not yours."

Damon's proud face dropped into one of annoyance, "you won't even help you good ol' best friend out? You're gonna side with this evil original?"

It was Mira's turn to smirk, "I've known this original a lot longer than I've known you. Good luck with beating him though, I can't wait to sit back and watch it go down."

She sidestepped him and began walking off but Damon caught her wrist and pulled her onto the dance floor. She didn't move to the music with him though instead she rolled her eyes and tried to walk away.

Damon sighed, "I need your help."

Mira frowned at his sudden seriousness. "I already told you, I'm not helping you. I might have, if you hadn't snapped at me and called me a liar but I guess being a dick is just who you are."

"This is about Bonnie. I figured since you apparently know so much about witches you might be able to help.

The hybrid furrowed her brows and found herself listening to what he had to say. He had informed her how Bonnie had gained the magic of the dead Salem witches and how she was going to go up against Klaus using all that power to kill him. He explained how she was going to sacrifice her life to save Elena's.

Mira was reluctant in helping them after how they had treated her. She thought Bonnie was dumb to sacrifice herself, but than she realised how the Bennett witch was doing it for her best friend. Mira thought about how if Adelaide had been in Elena's situation, she would give her life for the blonde in a heartbeat. So that made the hybrid feel the need to help.

"I might know a way you can save Bonnie. But me doing this does not mean we're okay."

━━━━━━━

Damon had soon left Mira alone to go and inform Bonnie of their new plan. Caroline had talked Adelaide into dancing so Mira stood off to the side giggling at the two blondes who jumped around without a care in the world.

As she stood there she saw a highly suspicious Alaric rushing outside, exactly where Elena and Bonnie had not long gone. Something was going on, she concluded.

"Adelaide," the brunette whispered so only those with enhanced hearing could hear.

Addie and Caroline paused their dance move - both turning to face Mira with a frown. "What's wrong?" The Rymer girl whispered back.

"Didn't you say Alaric was acting weird earlier?" Addie grew more confused at the question as did Caroline, but nonetheless nodded. "Weird how?"

"I don't know," Addie shrugged. "Just kind of out of. He showed up unprepared for the lesson which he never does. You know I have the sixth sense when someone is acting suspicious, well that's how I felt. You had to be there to notice it."

The blondes watched from afar as the gears seem to turn in the hybrids head. "What's going on, Mimi?" Caroline asked.

Mira soon saw Alaric now storming back inside with Elena and Bonnie quickly following behind. The three looking as if they were on a mission as they rushed out of the crowded down the empty corridor. Damon and Stefan nowhere in sight.

  'It was him,' she figured.

"Mimi!" Addie suddenly appeared beside her with a hand on her forearm. "What is wrong?"

Mira turned to her with a hardened expression, "I know where Klaus is."

Both Caroline and Adelaide's eyes bulged at the statement. They opened and closed their mouths trying to find the right words.

"Stay here," Mimi asserted about to follow after the trio who disappeared down the corridor but the girls caught her arms.

"You don't get to say something like that then run off without further explanation," Caroline stressed.

"I'll explain everything soon, right now I need to go and I need you two to stay here." The blondes went to argue but Mira shut them up immediately. "Stay here," she firmed. Not waiting for another response before she took off although Adelaide wasn't done yet.

The older blonde pulled Mimi back and wrapped her arms around her shoulders. All while whispering, "good luck."

The Emeberson girl wrapped her arms around the blonde giving a tight squeeze and quick nod before finally taking off to reunite with her former lover once and for all.

━━━━━━━

"What's going on?" Mira heard the voice of Bonnie, slowly walking closer to them.

She than heard Alaric or better yet Klaus sigh, "okay, I'll give you a hint. I am not Alaric."

Mira hid behind a door, not showing herself just yet. It was silent until she heard the name slip from Elena's mouth, sending chills down her spine.

  "Klaus."

  Klaus-Ric smiled broadly, "Surprise!"

"Oh, no. No, it's not possible," Elena denied shakily.

"Just relax, Elena. I'm not here to hurt you," Klaus assured. "You're not on my hit list tonight." Suddenly switching his gaze to Bonnie, "But you are."

He runs towards Bonnie but she was quick to throw him against the lockers with her powers. Mira goes to make her presence known but is suddenly held back. Spinning around she found Adelaide staring at her with an innocent expression.

'What are you doing?' She mouthed.

Addie shook her head, 'you can't interfere. Not yet.' She mouthed back.

Mimi went to retort but heard Klaus-Ric once again. "Now, did I mention that I knew a witch? You're gonna have to hit me a lot harder than that."

The best friends stick their heads out of their hiding spot just in time to see Bonnie throw him
into a display case, smashing the glass. He seemed unfazed as he let out a pained chuckle.

"By all means. Fire away." He taunted the girls, "If you kill this body, I'll just get a new one. Maybe Jeremy."

"Go. Run. Run!" Bonnie shouted hastily, grabbing Elena's arm.

Adelaide prepared herself to go out and do something until she saw her best friend's hesitance.

"Do we help them or not?" Adelaide queried.

Mira shrugged, looking slightly dazed. "I've done my fair share of helping tonight." She noticed Addie puzzled look and added, "I'll explain later."

The blonde sighed, "come on, we have to find him." With that she pulled Mira down the empty hallway. "Where would he be?"

Mira didn't understand it, but she felt as if she knew exactly where he was. She walked towards the cafeteria leaving Addie to follow behind her. She quickened her pace when she heard bones breaking and groaning.

"What? You'd kill your favorite history teacher?" Klaus questioned mockingly.

Mira and Adelaide looked through a small window, watching the scene unfold.

"It's what Alaric would want," Bonnie shrugged indifferently. "And he'd want you to suffer first."

The girls frown when blood started to drip from her nostrils. Bonnie didn't deserve to suffer like this, she shouldn't have had to put her life on the line for someone else no matter how much they meant to her.

"Look at you," Klaus smirked. "Is that all you got?"

Bonnie wiped the blood from her nose with a look of determination, "Let's find out."

Adelaide looked down as she felt her phone vibrate. Only to find Caroline blowing her phone up. She showed Mira who gestures for her to go.

Addie shook her head, 'I'm not leaving you.'

Mimi smiled reassuringly, grabbing Adelaide's hand and giving it a squeeze, 'I'll be fine. Go.'

Begrudgingly the blonde gave in, squeezing Mimi's hand comfortingly, before rushing off.

Mira flinched when the lights began to flicker and Klaus-Ric let out a scream while falling to his knees. Blood was now pouring from her nose and school fliers were all over the place.

"Bonnie no!" Elena shouted from the doors on the other side of the cafeteria. Mimi felt conflicted, all while knowing that both Klaus and Bonnie would make it out alive this time.

Bonnie used her powers to lock the doors to stop Elena and Stefan from getting inside. The Bennett witch turned back to Klaus, she caught sight of Mira in that moment. She gave the hybrid a discreet nod and a small smile before glaring at the man on the ground.

Bonnie looked at Elena with a smile. Klaus-Ric slowly stood up causing Bonnie to face him. Suddenly with a jerk of her body she bent back and fell on the floor unconscious.

As Elena and Stefan are finally able to get in, the doppelgänger immediately took her best friend into her arms. Stefan looked around but Klaus was nowhere to be found, seeming as if he disappeared into thin air.

Mira had rushed off the moment Bonnie's body gave in, knowing exactly what she was going to do next.

━━━━━━━

Mira had made it outside and was waiting. She knew he was still there, she could sense it. She stood on the other side of the high school building away from the decorated hall so no teens had been around.

Her heart was pounding when the exit door opened. She was hidden by the shadows so he probably wouldn't see her immediately. Klaus-Ric smiled triumphantly seeing as he believed he had achieved his goal. Nothing could ruin his happy mood in that moment or so he thought.

As he went to walk off more than ready to get back to Alaric's apartment but a voice rang throughout the windy night.

"Nik," Mimi whispered, with a scared expression.

She sounded like an angel and a demon to Klaus in that moment, like he was conflicted by a dream and a nightmare all in one. He turned as slow as he possibly could. He felt the air leaving his lungs making him feel breathless when he came face to face with her.

"Mimi?" Her name felt foreign coming out. When she took a step forward he took one back shaking his head vigorously, "no, no, no, you-you were dead." He stammered out.

Mira didn't know what to say at that moment, it felt different to her considering she wasn't coming face to face with him instead she was looking at Alaric. But staring into his eyes proved to her it really was him.

They stood there in front of each other an entire millennium later. Both with their hearts feeling like they were disintegrating in their chests.

"Technically I did and still am," she blurted out, wincing afterwards.

"You're a vampire." He mumbled in realisation, unintentionally now taking his own step forward. "How?"

Mimi frowned, "it's a long story."

Klaus was quiet as he took her in, it was dawning upon him that she was real as he continued to step closer and closer until he was right in front of her.

"You're here," He whispered in awe.

Mimi nodded, unable to hide her small smile, "I'm here."

Reluctantly he brought a hand and slowly caressed her cheek. It was as if he were trying to see if she was truly here, to prove he wasn't imaging it. They held each other's gaze as he noticed the difference. Those hazelnut eyes didn't seem to have their warmth and light anymore, seeming to be darker and colder yet they still made him feel as if he were that human boy all those years ago.

"Things changed when you died." He suddenly said, "everyone changed. I changed." He mumbled.

Mira squeezed her eyes shut tightly, "so did I, I'm not so innocent anymore."

Klaus soon did something that surprised them both, pulling her into a hug. One hand rested on the back of her head while the other clung around her waist. Holding her so tight as if he were scared to let her go.

Mimi quickly wrapped her arms around him just as tight and buried her face into his chest.

"I missed you so much, love." He whispered in her ear, sounding like he was trying to hold back his own tears.

"I missed you too," Mimi's voice was muffled as her face rested on his chest.

"The past millennium has been hell without you," he chuckled sadly now letting it set in that they have been apart for so long. He had been without his humanity for that long, now she was finally in his arms.

Mimi let out a little laugh, "I bet it was."

Klaus suddenly pulled back with a look of confusion, "why are you in Mystic Falls?"

"My best friend, Adelaide. You might of seen her, she was in Alaric's class today."

"The blonde with a lot of attitude?"

"Yeah, her," Mimi nodded with a smile, "She wanted to come here and I knew the Salvatore's, so we did. Can't say it wasn't a shock when I was kidnapped with the doppelgänger because someone from your past had seen a painting of me and wanted to use me in exchange for their freedom."

Klaus furrowed his brows, "who?"

"Rose and Trevor." She watched Klaus-Ric's face harden at that. "Then Elijah showed up and I had a reunion with him."

"Elijah knows you're alive?" He queried again.

"Yes."

"And you're working with the Salvatore's and their little doppelgänger?" He feared he would be going up against after just getting her back.

She shook her head, "no, they suddenly hate me cause they figured out I knew you and Lijah."

Klaus internally let out a sigh of relief. He pushing some of her hair gently behind her ear while murmuring, "I'm glad you are alive."

Mimi smiled tenderly, "me too."

Klaus just stared at her, feeling things he hadn't felt in a long time. Her being back in his life for only a few minutes had already turned his cold dead heart, a little warm.

The two fell into their own little bubble as both their gazes lingered on the other. That was until Klaus looked away with a sigh, he couldn't help but ask.

"How long?" He suddenly asked. He knew the answer but he had to hear her say it out loud. Mimi didn't reply, only turning her gaze to the ground. "How long have you been alive, Mimi?" He questioned more sternly.

"A thousand years," she muttered so quietly he almost missed it but he didn't. His hand suddenly dropped from her face and he moved away from here.

"A thousand-'' he cut himself off with a look of disbelief, "why didn't you come to me?" He had a look of despair, looking as if someone had ripped him apart.

"I woke up and you were gone, Nik. The only people there were your parents and my mother. My emotions were all over the place." She rushed out in one breath hoping for him to understand.

"And what about after?" He threw his hands up, getting angrier. "You've had all this time."

"It's complicated." She knew she had no right to be angry at him at that moment but her angry issues were getting the best of all these emotions she wasn't used to anymore.

These two were both like ticking time bombs who were minutes from setting each other off.

"I've spent all these years mourning you. Never truly being able to." Klaus' tone sounded sad like he was trying to hold back his emotions.

"Overtime, staying away got easier, coming back to you seemed harder," she responded meekly.

Klaus couldn't help but scoff, "so you just let me believe you were dead for a thousand years?"

"I let someone get into my head, telling me things I should've believed and I did. I'm only now realising how dumb I was for it."

Klaus was confused, "who? Who are you talking about?"

Mimi took a deep breath, "I have a lot to tell you, Nik. Right now just isn't the time."

"Well, how am I supposed to know that after you walk away from me right now that you're not going to run and hide again?" He queried exasperatedly.

Mimi groaned, "because I know you'd just hunt me down."

"Is that what you think I'd do to you?" He frowned. "Mimi, if you wanted me to leave you alone, I would have. I just wish you had let me know you were okay so I didn't spend all that time grieving you, trying to move on."

Mira had never felt so guilty in her whole life, but seeing the pain in his eyes right then was making her feel terrible.

"I'm sorry, Nik," Mira's eyes glistened with tears breaking Nik's heart at the sight. "I promise to explain it, even if you don't understand why I didn't, I promise I will tell you everything."

Klaus saw a tear suddenly fall from her eye and couldn't hold himself back from moving towards her and wiping it away gently. "My world fell apart when you went limp in my arms. Now I find out this entire time I could have had you by my side."

"Some things just aren't meant to work out," she said drearily.

Klaus clicked his tongue, "I guess not." He gave her a look she couldn't quite decipher as he said, "please don't leave again."

'Please don't leave me again.' Was what he meant.

Mimi pursed her lips, "I'm here now aren't I?"

"Doesn't mean you can't run again," he retorted bitterly.

Ouch, the Mikaelson's loved to take digs.

"That's fair," she mumbled while looking down.

"I didn't mean that," Klaus shook his head. Despite his anger towards the situation he really didn't want to hurt her. Their last conversation was still etched into his mind despite how long it had been.

Both of them felt exhausted. Klaus didn't know how to handle the situation, he liked to pretend he didn't feel things but being around Mira all these years later made him feel human again. Mimi had been tired by everything that had happened throughout her vampire life - she was mentally exhausted from just being alive.

"Things would have been a lot easier if I had just stayed dead a thousand years ago," Mimi murmured.

Klaus heard and immediately shook his head while taking her head into his hands, "don't say that. Never say that, Mimi."

"I really am sorry, Nik," she let her head fall into her hands. "I can't do this." She whispered in her hands.

"Mimi-"

"I promise I won't leave again." She gave him a regretful look, "I'll see you soon." She let out a shaky sigh, "goodbye Nik."

Klaus shut his eyes tightly hoping that when he opened them she'd reappear. He frowned as his body instantly felt cold with her touch but nonetheless. "Goodbye angel," he mumbled to himself.

He just hoped she stayed true to her word and didn't leave him again. He couldn't help but hope things would be different this time, that everything would work out.

━━━━━━━

Adelaide sat in her living room talking to Caroline. Both girls were worried about Mira so they decided to wait for her to get home.

"Where is she?" Caroline stressed for the fifth time.

"I don't know," Addie replied as she nervously bit down on her nails.

The sound of the front door slamming had both the girls jumping up from their seats and rushing to the foyer. They found Mira standing there stoically.

"Mimi?" Adelaide said cautiously as if waiting for her to break. It pained her when Mimi's eyes connected with her complete and utter anguish coating her iris.

Tears were falling quicker than any of them could comprehend, Adelaide wasted no time rushing to her and catching the broken brunette in her arms as she fell to the ground. Mira didn't even know why she was crying but it felt really good to let out.

"It hurt more than I thought it would," Mimi choked out as her head laid on Addie's shoulder while the blonde stroked her hair gently.

"It's okay, Mimi. It'll all be okay, remember," Addie whispered in her best friend's ear.

"I'm not so sure of that anymore."

They felt another pair of arms wrap around them. Caroline rubbed Mira's back, hating that she had to see the usually strong hybrid at her worst.

"We'll be okay as long as we have each other, Mimi. I know it." Caroline boasted, grinning when she heard chuckles coming from the two older girls.

"Did he take it that bad?" The Rymer girl asked as Mira pulled away. She instantly wiped the tears from her friends' cheeks.

"It took it better than I thought, that's what scared me the most." The hybrid admitted.

"So what's the problem?"

Mira sighed, "I freaked out and left. I couldn't handle it." She glanced between the blondes, "I really did miss him though."

"So you don't want to leave?" Adelaide tilted her head curiously.

"Leave?" Caroline reiterated hoping she had heard wrong.

Mimi shook her head, "No, I made a promise. And I owe him an explanation at least." She told them as she wiped her eyes.

The girls fell into silence. Caroline and Adelaide shared a look before turning to the quiet brunette.

"Girls night?" They suggested simultaneously with large grins.

Mimi couldn't stop her smile from growing. "Girls night."

The rest of the night was spent with snacks and movies. While Addie and Care did everything they could to take Mira's mind off of everything that was happening and everything soon to come. Things were only going to get more complicated from here.

They knew that they'd be by Mira's side through all of it no matter what.

Here it is, you'll catch me going into hiding now.

Klaus and Mira's relationship is going to be so messy because they're so similar. Both will be very bipolar. Mira is really going to show Klaus who's the true boss in the relationship though.

Anyway I hoped you guys are somewhat happy with this, I know how long you've been waiting. This is actually the longest chapter I've ever wrote with 9700 words
