x. trust is key
Chapter 10 | The Dinner Party
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
They say — 'never trust anyone, they all betray you in the end.' For years Mira truly believed in that. Her trust was broken by multiple people in just the last few hours of her human life. That seemed to of caused the girl massive trust issues.
With the acceptance of her brother, Mira promised to never trust anyone, never grow close to anyone ever again. All she would need was her big brother, the one person who had been there since she was born.
But than came Adelaide. A broken and hurt 18 year old girl, dying in the middle of the night after being bit by her newly turned vampire mother.
To this day it shocked Adelaide that her mother didn't keep going until she drained her dry. After all Fiona Rymer was as selfish as a person could be. She never even meant to get pregnant, especially with another woman's husband. Adelaide never knew her father for that reason, not even a name.
Mira wouldn't lie, when she came across the girl she had planned to leave her or simply put her out of her misery. But as she slowly stepped out of the shadows, Adelaide had mistaken the hybrid for her mother — who she thought was coming back to finish the job.
Hearing that a mother had done such a thing to their daughter, pained Mira. As someone who had always wanted a child in her humans years, she was angry someone took advantage of their own — vampire or not.
That was the first time, since the day her human life was taken from her, Mimi felt bad for someone. She than found that Adelaide was sick with a illness that would most likely kill her.
So the girl was just destined to die, until Mimi had given her the choice that changed that once dying blondes life forever. That had given her the sister she had always wanted.
Adelaide never saw her mother again, not that she wanted to but she had wondered what happened to the cruel woman. If she had died or if she was still roaming around.
Adelaide Rymer was the first person that had made their way into Mira Emberson's cold heart.
She had been the reason Mimi began to slowly trust others, it was still hard for people to receive such a thing from the hybrid but it was possible.
Never had Adelaide broken that trust or lied to her best friend, until now. The secret of Elijah planning to kill Klaus was beginning to unsettle her. Maybe Mira wouldn't be angry, maybe she'd be all for it, but it was not a risk Adelaide should of been taking.
And when it began to seem like Mimi had trusted a lie which led her to run from those she believed she'd always stick by, it caused her to hate herself a little bit for ever trusting those people — her mother. Her trust issues were beginning to creep back up on her.
That especially wasn't good for anyone.

"Miralette!" Adelaide screamed from the bottoms of the stairs.
"The full name? Okay, what did I do?" Mira asked as she appeared at the top of the stairs with a smug smile on her face.
Addie smirked back, "Nothing, I just had to make sure you listened to me."
Rolling her eyes, Mimi replied. "What's going on?"
"Stefan called, somethings going down." The blonde watched her best friend strut down the stairs.
"Okay, first question — why did Stefan call you?"
Adelaide shrugged as she put on her jacket, "Something about, you telling Damon to back off and him thinking the best chance to get us over there was for Stefan to call me."
Mira hummed, "Hm, second question — what's going down?"
"All I was told was to meet Damon and Ric at the grill and we'd find out."
The brunette huffed, "At least we're going to the grill so I can order a drink to get me through what will definitely be a dreadful day."
Adelaide laughed as she walked out the door, deciding on not entertaining the hybrid girls annoyance and just let her ramble on.
━━━━━━━
"Other than your lecture on the history of Mystic Falls, did you get anything out of Elijah?" Damon asked Ric, as he sat across from him in the Mystic Grill — Andie sat beside him.
"No, it was boring as hell," Alaric sighed. "Of course, Jenna thinks he's charming."
"Jenna would not be wrong. He does indeed have that instant charming vibe. The suit is also a very nice touch." Adelaide spoke as she and Mira joined the conversation — sitting beside the hunter, across from Andie.
"Mira, Adelaide, nice of you to join us. Glad Stefan could convince you." Damon aimed a smirk at Mira, who rolled her eyes.
"If I didn't you would of just showed up to my house and dragged me out."
The Salvatore raised his brows about to rebut but instead nodded in agreement as he knew she was right.
"Can we go back to this charming Elijah subject?" Adelaide piped up.
"Let's not," Alaric grumbled.
"You sounded jealous," Damon said, turning to Andie. "He sound a bit jealous?"
"Kinda do." Andie nodded.
"Elijah would be one to be jealous of, he could be stealing your girl." Mira teased, giving Alaric a cheeky wink — to which he scoffed at.
Ignoring Mimi's comment, Alaric glanced at Andie, "Maybe we shouldn't talk about this here." He turned back to Damon, giving a pointed look.
"Andie?" Damon caught on, "She's been compelled not to divulge my secrets. Haven't you?" He claimed, as he wrapped an arm around the womans shoulders.
Andie hummed, giving the vampire a kiss. "My lips are sealed."
Adelaide, Mimi and Ric shared a disgusted expression. The blonde even giving a silent gag.
"This is too weird," Alaric mumbled to the girls.
"Indeed it is."
"Understatement of the century."
Was what the two best friends replied with.
"I just need the right opportunity," Damon muttered to himself after a silent minutes. Causing Adelaide and Mira to share a confused look.
"So, do you wanna fill us in on what is happening or what your planning exactly?" Addie inquired.
"Opportunity for what, dumbass?" Mira asked, more bluntly.
"First of all, the insult was unnecessary," The Salvatore scolded. "Secondly, I need information out of Elijah, I just need the right time."
Damon lied, he needed an opportunity to dagger Elijah not talk to him. But Elena had informed Stefan of the Emberson and Mikaelson being friendly when she and Elena were kidnapped. Stefan had told Damon and apart of him denied it not believing Mira had lied but something told him not to completely trust her or Addie.
Mira eyed him, she knew he was lying. She just couldn't figure out what he was lying about and why.
Damon glanced over to the door way of the grill only to see Jenna walk in with Elijah in tow. "Ah, there's Jenna with her new boyfriend." All eyes turned to the pair that were heading towards them. Alaric subtly rolling his eyes in the process as he turned back.
"Hey guys," Jenna greeted.
"Hey, Jenna." Both Adelaide and Mira replied back happily, they didn't really know her but from their small greetings — there wasn't anything to not like about the woman.
"So I hear you two had quite a meeting of historical minds today," said Damon.
"I guess you could say that."
"Well, as much as I'd like to continue this, I've got papers to grade, more like F's to write." Alaric chuckled as he stood up.
"No, you know what? We should continue this," Andie suggested, "Let's have a dinner party."
Damon instantly turned to her, "Ooh, my girl. Full of good ideas. I'll be happy to host. Say tonight. Maybe?" He looked around at everyone for their input.
"It's good for me. Jenna?" Andie asked her friend.
"Nope, I don't think tonight really works-" Alaric was cut off.
"Yeah, I'm free." Jenna answered, giving Alaric a smug look.
"Mira? Addie?" Damon questioned causing all eyes to turn to them.
Mimi narrowed her eyes, "I don't do dinner parties."
"Yes, you do," Adelaide told her. "Yes, she does. We're in." She ignored the heated glare that was now being directed at her.
"Great!" Damon cheered, turning to Elijah with a questioning gaze.
"It'd be a pleasure," Elijah smiled.
"Wonderful."
"Well, as fun as this is, I think we're going go and prepare for this dinner," Mimi declared as she stood from her sit. "See you all later." She gave them a fake smile and roughly pulled Adelaide along.
"Bye girls," Damon waved. Eyeing Elijah as he watched the original give them a friendly familiar smile, causing slight suspicions to rise.
"I'm gonna go too," Alaric announced. "See you at the dinner." He said before catching up to the best friends.
"You okay buddy?" Adelaide queried, upon seeing the sad frown on the hunters face.
"Yeah, I'm fine," Alaric tried to reassure but the girls saw through it.
"Jenna likes you, Ric. I'm also pretty sure Elijah isn't actually trying to steal your girl." Mira nudged his shoulder.
Ric chuckled at the two, enjoying their company and presence more than he thought he ever would have. The walk out was silent up until Mira halted her feet.
"What's wrong?" Addie asked, her and Alaric glancing at each other nervously when they saw the mischievous smirk growing on the brunettes face.
"I see Damon's car," she pointed out, eyeing the blue vehicle.
Alaric furrowed his brows, "Okay. And?"
Mira turned to him, "Do you remember the time we met Jules, Damon happened to of slapped me in the back of the head. I told him I'd get him back for it later. You remember that?"
Adelaide gaped at them, "He did what?" She exclaimed.
Alaric raised a curious brow, "Yes, what about it?"
Mimi's smirk only grew, "Ric, you wouldn't happen to be carrying a knife with you right now, would you?"
The Saltzman bit his lip as he looked around the street to avoid eye contact, "Maybe," He mumbled.
The Rymer vampire gave him a look, "Are you serious?"
"I'm a hunter with an Original roaming around this place, what do you expect from me, Addie." He retorted.
"Okay, let's get back on track!" Mira snapped, "Alaric, hand me the knife."
"You're joking right?" Alaric asked, but seeing her stoic face he realized she was serious. "No, you can't mess with his car, Mira. He'd go ballistic on you."
"And what's he gonna do, as far as I'm concerned, since I've got here I've had to save his ass at least three times. He wouldn't last five minutes against me." Mira scoffed, "Now hand me the freaking knife."
The history teacher sighed and with great reluctance pulled out a pocket knife, placing it in her out stretched hand. He quickly looked back to the Grill's entrance way to make sure no one was witnessing this.
Mimi on the other than did not care about anyone seeing as she grinned childishly while flicking out the knife, taking large strides towards the 1969 chevy Camaro.
"This should be good," Adelaide crossed her arms while she excitedly watched her best friend on a mission.
As the brunette stopped beside the car, swiftly stabbing the knife into the driver side tire. Pulling it back and satisfyingly listening to the air rush out while watching the tire deflate. She could hear Adelaide's loud laugh from behind her.
Now, she could of done more or worst but it was only a slap in the back of the head and she didn't truly care about it — she was just being a bitch.
Walking back over to the hunter and vampire duo, Adelaide was still laughing and Alarics mouth was wide.
"Here you go, Ric," she handed him the knife. "That'll teach him."
"You just, I can't, why — what the fuck," The Saltzman stammered out the curse in shock.
"Come on, it's one tire. It's an easy fix." Mira shrugged indifferently, "Besides it'll take him a while to figure out who did it."
"That was amazing," Adelaide breathed as she calmed down from her laughing fit, giving Mira a high five.
"We'll see you at the dinner, Ric." Mimi called out, wrapping an arm around Addie as the pair walked away. Leaving Alaric shockingly glance between the knife and car.
"Ugh, I didn't get my drink," was the last thing he heard from Mira say.
━━━━━━━
"First you make me come to this insanely chaotic town, than sign me up for high school — Which we start on Monday by the way — now making me go to this awkward dinner." Mira listed, as Adelaide sat in the drivers seat of her car pulling up to Salvatore house, "When did you start hating me?" She pouted.
Adelaide closed her eyes and rubbed her temples, "When did you start acting like the younger one in this friendship?" She rebutted, "Aren't you three hundred years older than me?"
"When you suggested for us to come to this town," the brunette reiterated.
"Totally set myself up for that one," Addie murmured.
"Yes you did," Mimi nodded with an accomplished smile.
The vampire opened her car door, "Mira! You just need to try and get through this dinner with no complaints, okay. It is not that hard. No complaints and I'll get you a puppy."
Mira instantly beamed, "A puppy? Like a little fluffy thing?" She grinned when Adelaide nodded. "Well, what are we waiting for? Let's get inside."
Adelaide rolled her eyes while she watched her best friend happily jump out of the car and practically bounce towards the house.
"She's definitely not getting a puppy," The blonde giggled to herself - following after the hybrid.
She caught up to Mira only for the two girls to see the front door already wide open.
"Damon, what is he doing here?" Mira asked in distaste when she saw John Gilbert.
Damon turned to them with a small smile, gesturing for them to come in, "Decided to invite himself apparently."
"Oh, well in that case," She gave John a fake smile, "Get out."
"My thoughts exactly," Damon smirked.
"When Jenna told me she was coming to a dinner party for Elijah, I decided I couldn't miss out on all the fun and games," John responded.
"There are not going to be any games tonight, John." Alaric chimed in, "It's just a friendly dinner party."
The Salvatore held up his hands defensively when John turned back to him, "What he said."
"Well, if his staying I'm not gonna be so friendly," Mira crossed her arms.
"Let's just play nice for now, the guest of honour should be arriving soon," Damon asserted, wrapping an arm around Mimi's shoulders. "Come on, M. Let's go raid my alcohol cabinet for the strong stuff."
"Yes, please." She sighed dreamily thinking about the drink she's wanted all day.
"I also have to tell you about what some asshole did to my car," the Salvatore snarled, not noticing Mimi stifle a laugh.
John watched the two walk off together before turning to the blonde who had been standing and watching the small group go back and forth.
"John Gilbert," he introduced, "I take it, you're Adelaide."
The vampire gave him a suspicious look as he held out his hand, "I don't care about what your name is because if Mira doesn't like you, I definitely won't." Was all she said while walking past him.
━━━━━━━
A knock was heard at the front door. Damon opened it to see Elijah standing outside in his usual formal attire.
"Good evening," The Mikaelson greeted.
"Thank you for coming. Please, come in." Damon gestured for him to come in as he moved aside.
"Just one moment. Can I just say that if you have less than honorable intentions about how this evening is going to proceed, I suggest you reconsider," Elijah soothingly warned the Salvatore.
"No, nothing, nothing dishonorable. Just getting to know you," Damon reassured with a fake smile.
"Hmm. Well, that's good." Elijah begun walking inside, but stopped beside the Raven haired vampire. "Because, you know, although Elena and I have this deal, if you so much as make a move to cross me, I'll kill you and I'll kill everyone in this house, aside from Mira and Adelaide of course. Are we clear?" He threatened in a calming manner.
"Crystal," Damon gave a curt nod. Holding back a look of confusion on how Elijah wasn't willing to hurt the blonde and brunette duo.
As if on cue, Mira rounds the corner to come face to face with the Mikaelson.
"Mira." He smiled, "good to see you again. How are you?"
Mimi frowned in confusion but nonetheless responded, "It's good to see you too, Elijah."
"You look wonderful," he complimented.
Mira's confusion didn't subside, trying to figure out what he was up to, "Thank you."
He looked past her and saw the Sommers woman, "Jenna." He gave Mimi one last smile before walking over to the human.
Leaving Mira to turn her gaze to Damon, who stood at the door staring back at her with narrowed eyes making the hybrid swallow thickly and shrug.
━━━━━━━
"I hate to break it to you, Damon, but according to Elijah, your family is so not a founder of this town," Jenna said as she poured wine into the Salvatore's hand.
Everyone was now seated in the dining room around the table. Mira sat next to Elijah and Damon — who was seated at the head of the table. Adelaide across from her.
"Hmm, do tell,"
"Well, as I mentioned to Jenna earlier, a faction of settlers migrated from Salem after the witch trials in the 1690s. Over the next hundred years they developed this community where they could feel safe from persecution," Elijah explained.
"Hmm. Because they were witches." Jenna added, in a hushed tone to Adelaide who chuckled.
"Yeah, but there's no tangible proof there were witches in Salem," Andie chimed in.
Mimi bit her lip as she listened to the conversation.
"Andie's a journalist. Big on facts," Damon informed Elijah.
"Well, the lore says that there was this wave of anti-witch hysteria," Elijah continued sharing his story. "So these witches were rounded up. They were tied to stakes in a field together and, uh, burned. Some say you could hear the screams from miles around us."
Adelaide glanced at Mira who's eyes were glued to her plate while she sipped her wine.
Jenna chuckled, "I wouldn't repeat this to the Historical Society,"
"It's starting to sound a little like a ghost story to me," John spoke up for the first time.
"So, why do you want to know the location of these alleged massacres?" Adelaide questioned, hoping to somehow get Mimi's attention.
"You know," Elijah turned to her, "a healthy historian's curiosity, of course."
"Of course," Damon countered as Elijah glanced at him with an innocent smile. Damon suddenly stood, "Would anyone care for some cognac? I have a bottle that I've been saving for ages."
"None for me thanks. Nine bottles of wine is my limit," Alaric laughed.
"Well I would love some," Adelaide spoke as she and everyone else stood.
"Well, I definitely need something stronger than wine," The hybrid added, causing Damon to turn to her only to see her curious expression.
Damon eyed both Mira and Adelaide giving them a look that neither fully understood. The best friends also saw him and Andie sharing a subtly nod.
"The gentlemen should take their drinks in the study," Andie suggested.
"I have to say the food was almost as wonderful as the company," Elijah complimented.
The news woman smiled, "I like you."
"Here you are, gentleman, make yourself useful. Hmm?" Jenna shoved a few plates into John's hands.
Mira and Adelaide begun to help but Jenna waved them off, telling them to enjoy themselves.
"Hey, Jenna, are you, are you okay?" Alaric asked.
"Yeah, fine, Ric," the woman vaguely replied before heading off into the kitchen.
Adelaide and Mira stood watching the humans as they finished off their wine.
"I suspect this is my fault," John walked over to the history teacher.
"What did you do now?"
"I merely mentioned that you haven't been completely honest with her about your dead wife," John smiled.
Alaric grabbed him by the shirt, "You son of a bitch!" He spat.
Mimi sighed and placed her glass down before rushing over to the men and pushing them apart.
"Gentlemen, if you're going to fight, take it outside. I don't want to hear Damon complain about you two getting blood on the carpet," she shifted her eyes between the two, "Besides, you guys aren't dogs, are you?"
"No, Mira." Alaric murmured.
She gave him an appreciative nod and stepped back after giving John a harsh shove.
"I think I've been very clear with you, Ric. I want my ring back," John told him before walking away.
"He is seriously annoying," Adelaide scoffed earning a nod of agreement from Mira.
Suddenly the Alarics phone rang, "Hello. Slow down. Slow down. Stefan?"
Mimi and Adelaide shared a glance both now regretting ever showing up tonight.
━━━━━━━
To say Mira was furious would be an understatement. Damon had lied to her, he had broken her trust. She couldn't figure why, usually he told her and involved her in everything.
She knew she hadn't ever been completely honest with him, but anything she didn't tell him was because there were things she wanted to leave in the past.
That was until she came to Mystic Falls and her past ended up following right behind her.
She knew that keeping the fact she knew both Elijah and Klaus would come back to haunt her but she truly didn't know how to explain it. It was long story that she never liked to tell.
Besides she didn't owe the Salvatore's or even Elena anything, especially not her life story.
So now here she was about to stop Damon from attempting to kill Elijah and getting himself killed in the process.
Inside the study Elijah has his back turned away from Damon. The Salvatore slowly and carefully picked up the silver dagger from the tray of glasses.
Alaric, Mira and Adelaide burst through the study doors causing Damon quickly hide the dagger.
"Gentlemen," Ric feigned a smile, "we forgot about dessert."
"Elijah," Adelaide held out a hand for him to take.
The Mikaelson smirked slightly, "Miss Rymer."
She decided not to question how he knew her last name because the man just seemed to know everything.
Elijah handed his glass to Damon — who finished it off — and took Addies hand. He twirled her around as they walked out of the room. As soon as they were gone, Damon smacked Alaric angrily.
Alaric pointed down at the dagger, trying to explain why they interrupted. Damon obviously didn't understand what he meant. This made Mira roll her eyes as she walked over to a desk and wrote something down on a piece of paper. She handed it to Damon who looked down at it.
The dagger will kill you if you use it.
Damon's face dropped as he looked at Mimi who was glaring at him to which he than copied, glaring back at her. He angrily threw the paper at Alaric while they all walked out of the room.
━━━━━━━
In the dining room, Jenna was pouring coffee into a cup for Andie and John — who both were seated at the table.
Elijah and Adelaide walked in together, laughing. Elijah's hand rested on the small of the Rymer girls back.
"Sorry, guys, dessert is taking longer than I thought. I usually just unwrap food," Jenna said causing ever to chuckle.
"So," Andie wondered, "I know this is a social thing, but I would really love to ask you some more questions about the work that you're doing here."
Elijah half-shrugged, "I'd love to answer."
Mira, Damon and Alaric than enter the room. Damon sat down, glaring across the table at John. Mimi also sat down — taking her seat next to Elijah — who's gaze was on her.
The original took notice of her deepened frown, as if something was troubling her. She had seemed off all night but he hadn't had the chance to ask what was wrong.
"Ric, would you do me a favor and grab the notebook out of my bag?" Andie asked to which the hunter walked off to do as such.
"Elijah, did John tell you he's Elena's uncle-slash-father?" Damon inquired, causing him to take his eyes off of Mimi.
"Yes, I'm well aware of that."
"Of course, she hates him, so there's absolutely no need to keep him on the endangered species list," Damon smirked at John.
Andie than excused herself to help Ric out in finding her notebook.
John — ignoring Damon's dig — turned to Elijah was raised brows, "What I'd like to know, Elijah, is how do you intend on killing Klaus?"
In an instant, Mira's eyes widen and her head snapped towards Elijah's, the man had already been looking at her as soon as the words left John's lips. He wondered if anyone had told her of his plans.
But upon seeing the shock look on the Emberson woman's face, guilt instant overtook him. No one told her — hell, he didn't tell her. After she had confessed to missing him and his family he didn't have the heart to tell her what Klaus had done to his siblings. After her confession to still loving Klaus he didn't want to completely destroy the image he believed she most likely still had from their human days.
But Mira knew Klaus wasn't the same, she had heard things over the years, she wasn't a naive little girl holding onto hope for her first love. She knew better, but despite it all, the love was still there. She didn't feel like she was in the position to judge Klaus for his change in personality because she was no better.
She was just as evil, if not worse.
And to hear that Elijah wanted him dead as much as the rest of Mystic Falls didn't hurt it just shocked her. Although when she looked between Adelaide and Elijah — noticing the guilt in both their eyes — that hurt. A secret it seemed everyone hid from her, made her angry.
Elijah looked away, trying to ignore the anger blazing her eyes, "Gentlemen, there's a few things we should probably get clear right now. I allow you to live solely to keep an eye on Elena. I allow Elena to remain in her house living her life with her friends as she does as a courtesy. If you become a liability, I'll take her away from you and you'll never see her again."
Before anyone could speak, Andie walked back over, "Okay. My first question is when you got here to Mystic-"
She was cut off by a loud screamed erupting from Elijah, that caused everyone jumped up. Mimi turned to see Alaric had come up behind him and shoved the dagger through his heart from the back of his chair.
Elijah looked to Mira with saddened teary eyes as veins begun to cover his skin. Mimi couldn't stop her eyes from glistening as she held back a sob. He tried to reach for her but he eyes fluttered shut and his head dropped before he had the chance.
A part of her wanted to rip Alaric's heart out, despite the friendship she had built with him. She struggled to refrain herself. The protectiveness she once had for Elijah had come back in such a short amount of time.
There was no way Elijah was dead, gone for good. Something inside of her refused to believe it. No way her second older brother was dead.
Alaric pulled the dagger out and placed it on the table. He looked at Damon, "Now, get rid of him before Jenna comes back with dessert."
Damon nodded and looked over to Mira who's gaze hadn't looked away from the now dead Elijah. He knew in that moment his best friend was keeping a lot from him.
━━━━━━━
Mira stood outside of the house watching the leafs on some trees blow in the wind. Trying to calm her anger and pain. She had walked away from everyone without a word.
She knew Adelaide hadn't come to try and talk to her yet because the blonde knew her well enough to know she needed to calm down first.
Damon on the other hand didn't as he walked out, closed the door behind him and stood next to her. "What are you doing out here?" He asked.
"Just need some air."
It was silent as Damon glanced at her but she refused to meet his eyes. "You won't look at me," the Salvatore stated.
She huffed, turning to stare deep into his eyes, "you lied to me."
Damon's eyes enlarged as he let out a scoff, "you have no room to talk about lies, Mira." She didn't reply waiting for him to elaborate, "you never told me you knew Elijah. That's right, Elena told Stefan about your little reunion when you were kidnapped."
Mira's face dropped as her jaw clenched. Doppelgängers loved to stab people in the back and become nosy about other peoples business.
She clicked her tongue, "You caught me." She gasped mockingly, "but to be fair, I never lied just withheld information on my personal life."
"We asked you if you knew anything and you told us no," Damon snapped.
"I'm sorry. I had no idea I had an obligation to tell you everything about my life and Elijah!" Mimi shouted in frustration.
"I'm your best friend, you have an obligation to tell me!" He retaliated.
"I haven't seen you in over 50 years Damon, and the last time I did we didn't really have time to tell each other our life stories. The time before that you didn't have your humanity on. And since I've gotten here we've been to busy fighting wolves for us to sit down and talk."
"You could of found the time," Damon hissed.
Mimi groaned as she threw her hands up, "I didn't know anything about the ritual, okay. I didn't know Elena was suppose to die. I only knew about the sun and moon curse. The first time I found out about Elijah or Klaus being involved with it was when I was kidnapped. And I hadn't seen Elijah in a very long time. What does me knowing him have to do with any of it?"
Damon paused as he rose a brow, "Do you know Klaus as well?"
Mira exhaled sharply while she looked down biting her lip. Despite wanting to evade the question, she couldn't help but wonder 'what was the point in lying about it?'
Damon chuckled bitterly, "you have got to be kidding me."
Mimi swallowed the lump that was lodged in her throat, "I had an past long before I met you Damon, trust me."
"A past you could of told me about!" He exclaimed.
"Are you not listening?" Tears pricked the corners of her eyes out of anger, "it's a lot of history to unravel, Damon. I don't just going around shouting it to the world. Mine and Elijah's past is nothing compared to mine and Klaus'."
Damon shook his head in disbelief, "you're unbelievable. Let me guess. You were planning to turn your backs on us the minute he showed up, weren't you? Get all the information you could to go back and tell him."
Mimi couldn't hide the stunned and astounded look that flashed across her face. She was startled by his harshness and the venom that coated his words.
But she wouldn't cry, not in front of him and definitely not over him.
She let out a shaky breath. Her face turning expressionless, cold as if she were staring at a stranger, "if you truly believe that, than you're right. We really don't know each other as well as we thought."
Damon didn't mean for those words to come out, he didn't even know if he truly believed them. It only dawned upon him on what he had said once he saw the hardened and blank look on his supposed best friends face.
He went to speak, take back what he had said. But no words seem to be able to come out, they were caught in his throat. To stubborn to apologise.
Hastily, Alaric rushed out interrupting their stare off, taking a glance between them as he realized there was a lot of tension surrounding the two. Although they had more drastic matters at hands.
"We have a problem," Ric breathed, "Elijah's gone, he isn't dead."
At those words Mira suppressed a sigh and look of relief. The dagger didn't permanently kill him, it also wouldn't kill her.
She turned to Damon stoically, "you better go deal with that. I'm not gonna stop him and save you from his revenge. I also wouldn't want you to think I'll stab you in the back just like Ric did to Elijah." She firmed, before walking away, leaving the two men stunned.
She pulled out her phone texting Addie that she was leaving and would meet her at home. Not having the strength to go back inside and face her after the horrid conversation with the Salvatore.
She than sped away, not looking back.
━━━━━━━
Adelaide paced back and forth in the foyer of her house. After receiving the text from Mira she quickly went home to wait. Damon had called asking if she had heard from their brunette friend as he had been trying to get a hold of her as well.
He had also informed her that they had daggered Elijah again, and for him to stay dead the dagger had to stay inside his heart.
Addie didn't care though, all that was on her mind was if Mira was coming back. If she had left her all alone once and for all.
The answer was no, Mimi wouldn't — couldn't leave Adelaide alone. Despite her anger and small feeling of betrayal she could never hate or stay angry at the blonde.
Adelaide Rymer was her sister and sisters fought sometimes.
As soon as the blond heard the click of the front door opening, she was standing face to face with the hybrid.
"Thank god," she exhaled happily, "you're okay."
Mimi gave a nod, "of course I'm okay."
"You also came back. Figured you'd runaway." Adelaide frowned.
The brunette quirked a brow, "you truly thought I'd leave you?"
Addie shook her head and replied softly, "No, you're far to loyal for that but I wouldn't of blamed you if you had."
"You know I'd never leave you behind. Especially in this town," Mimi joked.
Addie giggled before she turned serious again, "I'm sorry I didn't tell you."
Mira pursed her lips, "why didn't you Addie?"
Adelaide closed her eyes while shaking her had as she sat on their staircase, "because I was scared," she admitted receiving a confused look. "Scared of how you'd react — of what you might of done. Scared Klaus would come here and take you away."
"Take me away?" Mimi queried, "you'd think he'd take me away from you."
"Well, god knows how he'll react to you being alive, who's knows what he might do," Adelaide expressed her concerns.
"Why are you so worried I'm going to leave you, Adelaide? Or be taken away."
"Because everyone leaves," she responded meekly. "In the end, everyone either leaves or is taken away."
Mimi gave a regretful look, never wanting Adelaide to feel that way, ever.
The brunette inhaled sharply as she made her way over to her best friend, taking a seat beside her. Wrapping her arms securely around her while Adelaide leaned into her touch.
"I'm not going anywhere, not now, not ever." Mimi muffled into the blondes hair, "You're stuck with me whether you like it or not."
"Always?" Addie spoke in an innocent tone.
This was one of those moments where it showed Mira was the big sister in their relationship no matter how immature or childlike she could get — she'd always be a big sister to Addie.
"And forever."
Slightly rushed and a lot of mixed emotions, but that's okay.
I love ending the chapters with those Mimi and Addie moments <3
