Phone A Friend
Scar's Perspective-
"Come on Finnegan, you look so cute!" Scar smiled, setting his kitten down after he put a Yoda costume on him.
Finnegan looked unhappy and Katy Bee tried to paw off her Princess Lea hat.
"No- stand still guys! Please it'll be a silly picture." Scar chuckled, laying down on their level and taking out his phone.
He took a couple pictures, and his phone rang. He huffed and answered it, standing up.
"Hello?" He glanced over his shoulder and saw Katy Bee taking off her hat. He snapped at her, but Katy Bee got it off and ran.
Scar sighed but shrugged, turning his attention to the person who called him.
"Hey Scar, it's Martyn."
"Oh, hey!" Scar raised an eyebrow as he heard the nervous tone on the phone, "You okay? You sound like you're being held at gunpoint."
Martyn laughed awkwardly. "No, no I'm good. I just...um..I think I'm gonna be quitting theatre."
"What?! Why?"
"I forgot I don't really uh...the people can be a lot."
"Martyn, no offense, but sometimes you're that person who can be a lot." Scar chuckled, putting his hands in his pockets.
"Haha yeah, I guess I am. I just- it's...not really for me?"
Scar raised an eyebrow. "Have you seen you seen yourself on stage? You're a natural! Plus, you got the lead for our play, you can't just ditch us."
Martyn sighed, "I...look Scar, I just...I didn't look at who all was in the cast and kinda intentionally forgot that a guy I don't like is there."
"Who is it?" Scar asked, "I can make sure they're not bullying you. Theatre can be kinda competitive, so I understand."
"No- no it's not...it's not bullying. We just...we kinda just lost our friendship." Martyn coughed nervously.
"Uh huh..." Scar trailed off, trying to think of everyone he knows in the theatre program and who it may be.
"Well, don't let that bother you." Scar said, "You're great at theatre, Martyn, you deserve that spotlight. I'm sorry that you may have had a bad past with them but I'm sure you won't run into them much."
"Y-yeah um...probably not."
"Oh and did you get those questions from Mumbo? He's my buddy running the page, I told him to ask you some stuff. I wouldn't do that for someone I didn't think deserved to have a spot in the story about us."
"I got the text yeah; I may do it later. I- I don't know if I should. I don't even know if I wanna take this class anymore..."
"Martyn, listen to me." Scar sat down on his bed, "I think you should stick with it. I don't know who this guy is or what he did, but don't let that stop you. You shouldn't let one moment torment your life choices. You like theatre, you're good at theatre, so why drop it?"
Martyn muttered something but Scar couldn't understand.
"What?" Scar asked.
"Nothing." Martyn said, "Sorry, I just...am not confident with this."
"Aw, you got this! I threw up my first show night, but now I go out fine!"
Martyn couldn't help but chuckle. "Actually?" He asked.
"Yeah! And one girl dropped the f-bomb on stage."
Martyn burst out in laughter and Scar smiled.
"We all make mistakes, we all get nervous, we all slip up, but that shouldn't stop us from pushing through."
"Yeah, you're right...thanks Scar."
"Sure thing." Scar smiled.
They said their goodbyes and the call ended. Scar set his phone down and his eyes fell on his bookcase, the past three yearbooks standing out to him.
He stood up and took them out, flipping it open to the theatre sections.
"Who are you so worried about?" Scar whispered.
He scanned through the pictures and Katy Bee hopped onto the book, meowing.
"I know it seems wrong, but I'm just curious! Curiosity never harmed nobody." Scar scratched behind her ears and Katy Bee purred.
Scar flipped the page, his eyes landing on the guy standing front and center. He wore a red coat and plastic crown, dressed as the king for last year's play.
"Haha, I remember that scene, that was fun." Scar said, smiling. He thought back to the play last year and how fun it was to do it with everyone.
He was about to flip through his sophomore yearbook when he froze, a memory shoving his way into his mind.
"Wait...wait-!" His head spun back to the picture of Ren, remembering how most of the cast went out to celebrate at Denny's that night.
His mind scrambled, just barely grasping the right image until it finally made its way to him. The memory of Ren bringing along his partner at the time and the whole night the two were joking and flirting, Ren's arm wrapped protectively around the blonde.
"Martyn was dating Ren?!"
~
I'm sure everyone already expected that lol but uh- surprise if you didn't. I may be including some Ren moments in this; I have some plans for him, and I am going to try and make sure I don't ruin his character.
I really haven't written Ren since like...my RenDoc story in Connected, but I'm prob gonna go off that and hopefully help his character flourish.
