AT the Jutul's house it was much more eerie. Fjor stood in front of the bathroom mirror inspecting his face as Saxa sat on the toilet filing her nails. "Don't I look too old to be a senior? Shouldn't I look a bit younger?" He asked as his sister rolled her eyes at his question.
"You're supposed to look nineteen and that works. So . . ." She trailed odd, "Or is it because you think Viola is into younger guys?" She asked with a teasing smirk.
Fjor halted his movements glancing over to his sister with a glare.
The bathroom door opened revealing Vidar, he nudged his daughter to move. His gaze remained on his son who now looked down at the sink, the room's atmosphere drastically changed.
Saxa let out a scoff as their father used the toilet.
"That new boy in your class, what's he like?" Vidar asked his children.
"The little one or the big one?"
"The big one. I want you to keep on eye on him." Vidar instructed the two, "And his sister." Fjor and Saxa looked to their father halting what they were doing prior. "Who they hang out with, what they're interested in--"
Fjor tilted his head, "Why do you care anyway?" He asked boldly.
Vidar looked to Fjor and began to take steps towards him, Fjor kept his composure. "Don't worry about that. Just do as I say. You can fret about your good looks later." He said his palm meeting the side of Fjor's face.
VIOLA sat in her room flipping through the book Fjor had given her, he was right, learning about the Giants was interesting as well. A part her pondered what it would have been like to live in such times like the book in front of her, who would she be what would she do? She glanced to where her shelf held the books of gods, then back down to the one in her lap.
She frowned placing the book down. Her doe eyes trailed to her watch then to the stairs that led up into her bedroom hearing creaking.
"Hey, um, I'm going to make my bed longer, so if you hear anything it's me." Magne advised her earning a nod, her eyes trailed down to the sled. He walked over and placed it on the edge of her bed. "Was papa's."
Viola nodded taking in the wooden surface. "You're using a sled to make a bigger bed?" She asked with a small scoff.
"Don't have enough for a new one." He shrugged.
"What's that?" Viola nodded to the hammer he held in his other hand, her eyes falling to the end where it looked like a symbol had been carved in at the hilt of the wood.
"Grandpa's." He said showing it to her, she smiled lightly. "They left a lot of their stuff here." He noted looking from his hammer and around Viola's room, some of the furniture in there definitely did not belong to his sister.
"Yeah. Think they had an obsession with the history of Edda." She chuckled lightly nodding to where the other books rested. Magne looked at the one in her hands with a raised brow.
"This is of the giants." He noted.
"Uh, yeah, a friend leant it to me. Apparently they're just as interesting as the gods were." She shrugged, Magne nodded slowly. "You should hurry and build that before dinner."
"Yeah, right." He nodded standing to his feet and making his way to her staircase. He took one final glance behind him then to his sister who had her nose buried into the book in front of her, he smiled lightly whilst turning his head he eyed an old frame that laid against the rickety dresser across from him.
Dust decorated the glass, but vaguely he could make it out. In the old frame was a old drawing of a woman, half her face looked normal and lively, where as the other -- like a skeleton, dead.
"Yeah, I don't know who she is. I'm still reading about all this stuff, bet I'm going to ace the class with all of this." Viola's voice brought him out of his trance. Magne looked back and nodded slightly confused at the odd photo their grandmother would have, "She's pretty though."
"Yeah, she looks dead." He admitted inspecting the photo from where he stood.
Viola stared at the photo blankly, "Goddess of death." She said just over a whisper, Magne looked back at his sister with confusion.
"What?"
"Nothing." Viola shook her head, "Go build your bed." She smiled as he exited her room, her doe eyes trailed over to the photo with furrowed brows.
THE following day had come and dragged on for the dark haired teen. Viola sat next to Magne who ate his lunch, Isolde busied herself with her computer doing God knows what. Her doe eyes looked across the cafeteria seeing Laurits speaking with the group across them, her brow rose slightly, since when were they all friends?
She observed Saxa who spoke with Hilde about some dress for a party. She always seemed to be aware of everything, Viola thought. She gave her an eerie feeling that didn't settle well with Viola. Her entire family did, which was weird in itself.
Something wasn't right with that family.
"Hey, Violet." A voice said from above the trio. Viola looked up seeing Fjor with smile on his lips, she glanced to Isolde who rose her brows at her where as Magne kept a straight face. "What do you say?"
"Sorry?" She looked at the boy oddly.
"The party . . . Remember we said we'd let you know more about it the other day . . . " He said as a look of realization came onto her face, Magne looked at his sister in confusion. "Laurits is going too."
"My brother is going?" She asked earning a nod from the handsome boy. Viola looked between Magne and Isolde who the latter looked at her computer in silence, "Is Isolde and Magne going as well?" She asked already knowing they hadn't even been invited let alone thought of in their little group.
Fjor's lips parted, "Eh, well, of course they are. I'm sure Oscar wouldn't mind." He looked between the two who starred at him, one blankly, and the other in amusement.
"I thought it was at your cabin." Viola remarked quickly, a ghost of a smirk on her plump lips.
Fjor's lips twitched upwards, "It was, but Oscar's parents are out of town, so he offered to have it there." He said starring at the dark haired girl, Magne glanced between the two he gave his sister an odd look.
A voice called out from behind Fjor, "Actually my mom might be getting off early." Oscar informed the boy from where he sat. Viola, Magne, and Isolde all looked over seeing the group watching Fjor and Viola's interaction.
Fjor glanced to his sister who nodded curtly to him, with knowing eyes. Fjor turned around and said, "So, it will be at ours. It'll be cooler. And you can sleep over too. Everyone can." Fjor said looking between the three.
Viola gnawed on her lip and glanced to her brother who was already looking at her. "Um, thank you but I don't think I'll be able to make it." She said as his smile faltered upon her words. "I'm busy this weekend, I'm sorry. Another time, maybe." She nodded lightly.
Fjor licked his lips and nodded in disappointment, "Uh, yeah, no, yeah, that's fine. Another time." He said walking over to his friends, Saxa eyed at the freckled face girl then to her blonde brother.
"What are you doing this weekend?" Magne asked his sister who shrugged.
"It's Friday, movie night." She said simply.
Magne nodded just as the bell rung.
Hours had passed and school was out for the students of Edda Secondary School. Viola walked alongside Laurits, she looked across from them two and spotted Magne and Isolde waiting for her.
"I'll see you later."
"Where are you going?" Viola asked Laurits who turned back and wore a Cheshire smile.
"Hang out with some friends. You should try it." He said as she rolled her eyes, Laurits stood now in front of her, "And movie night? Really?" He asked as she parted her lips, "Heard Saxa talking about it with Hilde and Gry. Since when was watching movies of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson with mother, better than going to a party and meeting people?" He asked in amusement as she looked away from his intimidating eyes, "That's what I thought. No one knows you better than I do, little sister." He teased as she shoved him slightly.
"Just because you wanna go drink and hook up with people doesn't mean I want to, Laurits." Viola defended herself.
"Mm hm, well I know someone whose going to be really bummed you won't be there." Laurits said glancing over to where the Jutul siblings stood by their car speaking to their friends. "Have fun making the earth greener and watching The Rock in a tutu for the sixth time." He smiled widely as Viola rolled her eyes at him once again and flipped him off.
Letting out a huff she made her way over to Magne and Isolde.
"What was that about?" Isolde asked her friend who shook her head.
"Nothing, are we going?"
"WAIT, so your mother doesn't want you doing any kind of sports?" Isolde asked Magne who shook his head. Somehow the three had gotten into the topic of Magne and his 'rage' issues, and Isolde didn't quite understand their mother's perspective on keeping him and Viola so secluded from the world when they seemed just fine to her.
Magne had never shown any anger or rage tendencies, in fact to Isolde she seen him as quiet and shy. Especially when he would day dream about Gry during their study sessions for their exam that was coming up on Edda. She would never expect him to have rage issues or be violent towards anyone.
As for Viola -- she was another story. She was so much like Magne but also the opposite. It was strange to Isolde, but she liked the siblings presence and they surprisingly enough didn't bother her like others did.
"She thinks the competitiveness will lead to anger." Viola explained to their friend.
Magne chimed in, "Chess is okay, I guess."
"Seriously?" Isolde asked as the two nodded, the trio crossed the street. "Wow. Hey, I have to go grocery shopping. You guys can come over for dinner if you want to?"
Viola let out a sigh, "Might have to take a rain check on the dinner for me. Told mom I'd take care of dinner tonight." She said to her brother who nodded, "I'll save you some for tomorrow, you guys have fun."
"You sure?" Isolde asked as they entered the small grocery store.
"Yeah, with our mom working so much she barely gets time to do anything around the house. But yet she wants to redo the whole thing." Viola said grabbing a bag of Sour Patch Kids off the shelf.
Isolde frowned, "That sucks."
Viola shrugged, "We're used to it. We all have pitched in when she isn't home growing up. It's always been like that, since . . ." She trailed off to herself. "Anyways."
Isolde frowned knowing of their father. She watched as the freckled face teen grabbed a water bottle, Isolde gave her a look of approval before she handed one over to Magne followed by an explanation on why they should not drink the tap water in town.
A man next to her offered a smile to the dark haired girl, he looked between her brother and herself. "Choose your sides wisely." The man in the eye patch said in almost a warning tone.
Viola licked her lips and nodded slowly, "Yeah, um, you too." She said before walking over to her brother who eyed the cashier.
Viola pulled her brother gently by his sleeve as the elderly woman scanned their things. Her doe eyes scanned the woman's face as realization took over herself, it was the same woman from the day they got into town, she noted.
"Beware the spring equinox. It's dangerous on the mountain." She said, "You might well be needed, Magne." She said confusing the two siblings as to how she knew Magne's name.
"Don't worry about her." Isolde whispered to the two as they packed their things up and began to make their way out of the shop.
"The light will drive out the darkness." Wenche uttered her eyes on the short raven haired girl.
"And if history is to repeat itself?" Wotan, the man with the eye patch questioned her slightly not believing her certainty.
Wenche kept her eyes on the siblings, "Have hope."
