Chapter 8
Steve let out a grunt as he fell onto a cart behind him. Everyone stood in shock as Steve turned around and unexpectedly lunged out at Jonathan, tackling him onto a car.
"Steve!" Nancy and Olivia called out to the boy in unison, fear written on both of their faces. "Stop!"
Steve ignored everyone's protests as he spun Jonathan onto the ground, the Byers boy hitting his head on the hard concrete. Jonathan groaned as he flipped them over and started throwing punches at Steve's face.
"Get off of him, seriously!" Carol yelled from behind her boyfriend and Tommy yelled, "Kick his ass, man!"
The boys continued tossing eachother around and punching one another. Olivia cupped her face, having no idea what to do or how to stop them. But by the looks of it, nobody could stop them. "Get off of him!" Olivia cried out as Steve jumped off of Jonathan, giving Jonathan an advantage to regain his balance and throw continuous punches at her best friend's face.
When Tommy tried stepping in as orders of his girlfriend, Steve demanded him to leave it so he could finish the fight. However, Jonathan threw a punch to Steve, which he dodged before getting his chance to punch Jonathan in the side of the face.
Jonathan continued to punch Steve until he fell to the ground and sirens were heard from a short distance. Jonathan continued to punch Steve, giving him a completely bloody face and many soon to be bruises. Nancy and Olivia were yelling at the boy, trying to pull him back, but by the time they kept trying, the police car pulled up to a stop in the alley and two officers got out. One of them tried chasing down the fleaing group as the other attempted to grab a hold of Jonathan, who elbowed him in the face in return.
The dark-skinned officer put Jonathan in handcuffs as Steve and Tommy ran away. Olivia looked at the two who were running for what seemed like their lives, her face formed in terror.
The dark-haired girl cupped her face again as tears threatened to spill out of her eyes. She didn't know why, but she wanted to cry. She hated always feeling pain or guilt.

"Do you think we'll be out of here soon?" Nancy asked the older woman who was wrapping loose ice cubes into a towel.
Olivia and Nancy were watching with soft glances.
"You two, yes. Him, no." She told them as she continued focusing at her task. "He assaulted a police officer."
"Well, how long are you gonna keep him?" Olivia turned her head to Nancy, noticing how much she cared for Jonathan. The dark-haired girl always had assumed they liked eachother based on the way they look at one another, she just didn't know for sure until now when seeing how vulnerable it made her.
"You and your boyfriend have big plans, do you?" Nancy looked at Olivia awkwardly before turning back to the woman.
"He's not my boyfriend." The woman didn't believe one word she said, even if it was the truth.
"I think you better tell him that. Only love makes you that crazy, sweetheart." She handed Nancy the wrapped ice before saying, "And that damn stupid."
Olivia smirked to herself at the womans words before the two girls walked back to Jonathan, who was sitting gloomy like at one of the tables.
"Found some ice." Nancy said as she sat on one side of Jonathan, while Olivia sat on the other.
Jonathan only muttered a small, "Thanks." Before Nancy put the ice on his bruise, since he couldn't do it himself. Olivia noticed his cuffed hands.
"They said they are keeping you for a while." She pursed her lips as Jonathan sighed at her words before turning his head back to Nancy, both of them avoiding eye contact at the awkwardness.
"Everything okay?" Jonathan eventually got the gut to ask her.
"Yeah." She nodded at him softly. "Everything's fine." They all unexpectedly let out stressed sighs at the same time while sitting at the desk.

Olivia sighed for what felt like the hundredth time as she sat in the seat next to Jonathan, her knees brought up to her chest and her chin resting on her knee cap. Nancy was still holding the ice as they all sat in boredom.
The three looked up once they heard the bell ring, and in walked Joyce Byers, a confused and worried look mixed in her emotions. "Jonathan? Jesus, what... what happened?" She looked at the two girls then back to her son in utter uncertainty.
"Ma'am..." Officer Callahan took a step forward, warning the mother but none of them paid attention to him.
"I'm fine." Jonathan muttered, not looking up at Joyce.
"Why is he wearing handcuffs?" Olivia sighed, dropping one of her legs down while laying her cheek on her knee.
"Well, your boy assaulted a police officer. That's why." He gave Joyce a dead panned look before looking down at Olivia who said, "It was an accident." She defended her friend, yet still not understanding why she was doing so since he had taken pictures of her.
"Olivia, leave it." Hopper warned her softly as he gave her a warning look. The two had met before and ever since then they have had a dad and daughter bond, which she didn't have with her dad.
"Take them off." Joyce demanded as she pointed to Jonathan.
"I am afraid I cannot do that." Callahan argued.
"Take them off!" She raised her voice at the officer, earning back up from Hopper. "You heard her. Take 'em off."
"Chief, I get everyone's emotional here, but there's something you need to see.
After Hopper had returned with officer Powell and a box of weapons, Nancy, Jonathan and Olivia exchanged stressful glances before they all sunk in their chairs. Joyce hovered over the box, her brows quickly drawing together in confusion.
"What is this?" She questioned worriedly.
"Why don't you ask your son? We found it in his car." Hopper looked between the teenagers as he spoke.
"What?"
"Why are you going through my car?" Jonathan asked in defense as he leaned up from his seat.
"Is that really the question you should be asking right now?" Hopper put his hands on the desk as he angrily leaned closer to Jonathan, which caused Olivia to shift in her seat in boredom. She knew they didn't have time for this. If only Jonathan didn't punch Steve, she thought to herself.
"I wanna see you in my office." Hopper stood back up straight before Jonathan spoke again.
"You won't believe me."
"Why don't you give me a try."

"You said blood draws this thing?" Hopper questioned, the three teens and Joyce all sitting in his office. Hopper studied the photo they gave him of the monster that attacked Olivia in the other world.
"We don't know." Jonathan sighed.
"It's just a theory."
Joyce and Jonathan left the room as Nancy, Olivia and Hopper stayed in his office, Olivia picking at her nails.
"You sure this thing is even real?" Hopper squinted his eyes in disbelief at the two girls.
"Yes. It tried eating me!- And it wasn't a dream or anything like that, trust me." Olivia raised her voice, not even realizing until the two stared at her in worry. After everything that has happened, she hadn't gotten the proper time to adjust or deal with it all.
When Hopper was called down into the main office, he told Nancy and Olivia to stay in his office, but Olivia couldn't help but eavesdrop. She heard a woman yelling at the top of her lungs about a young girl who broke her son's arm. Then she heard the son describe the girl and her mind immediatly wandered off to Eleven. She automatically got worried at the thought of Mike, Lucas and Dustin getting in danger.

Joyce, Jonathan, Olivia, Nancy and Hopper were all stuffed in Jonathan's car. Hopper and Nancy stepped out of the car, the older man holding up binoculars as they all watched men from Hawkins Lab take out boxes of the Wheeler's belongings. Olivia leaned into the front, pearing out of the windshield, her brows furrowed in worry.
"I have to go home." Nancy stressed, but everyone kept telling her it was a bad idea.
"No, you can't." Hopper adressed as he continued staring into the binoculars.
"My mom... my dad are there." Nancy raised her voice at the older man, but no matter what she did he refused to change his decision.
"They're gonna be okay."
"Nancy, you can't go over there." Olivia spoke as she watched Nancy turned around torwards her. When Nancy questioned why, she gave her an obvious glare while thinking about everything Mike had told her about the "bad men."
Nancy ignored her glare before stomping away from the car and past Hopper. He quickly jumped in front of her before grabbing her arm. "Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey."
"Let go." Nancy tried pulling her arm out of his grasp, but he refused to let go. "Let go!"
"Hey! Listen to me. Listen to me." Hopper and Nancy both eventually calmed down before he continued to talk to her.
"The last thing in the world we need is them knowing you're mixed up in all this."
Nancy's older sister instinct quickly kicked in before yelling, "Mike is over there-"
"They haven't found him. Not yet, at least." The chief pointed up in the air a long distance away, causing Olivia to hop out of the seat and stand up in front of the car door. She saw the helicopter roaming the area in search for Mike and most likely his friends, too.
"Come on, get in the car." With that, Olivia quickly threw herself back into the car, sitting next to Jonathan with crossed arms. Nancy sat next to her before Hopper got in the driver's seat, closed his door and turned around to the teenagers.
"Look, we need to find them before they do. Do you have any idea where he might have gone?" He looked in between the three, only to earn a head shake from the dark-haired girl and a, "No, I don't." From Nancy.
"I need you to think." Hopper asked.
"I don't know. We haven't talked a lot." The girl spoke stressfully as she sunk slightly down into her seat. "I mean, lately..."
"Is there any place that your... your parents don't know about that he might go?" Joyce jumped into the conversation, motioning her hands as she spoke.
"I don't know." Nancy stuttered as she looked down, clearly overwhelmed.
"I might." Jonathan looked away from the window in realization before everyone's eyes turned to him.
"What?" Olivia and Hopper asked him in unison.
"I don't know where he is, but I think I know how to ask him."
Hopper quickly pressed the brake as they pulled up to the Byers house, everyone quickly jumping out of the car and running torwards the front door.
Olivia quickly stopped in her tracks next to Nancy as their eyes scoped the walls filled with christmas lights. Olivia then turned to the wall covered in the alphabet and a lighbulb on each letter. She raised her brows before muttering, "smart." The two girls smiled slightly at one another before following after Jonathan, Hopper and Joyce.
Everyone began rummaging through Will's room, looking for the walkie-talkie that he uses to communicate with his friends. Joyce yelled from under the bed. "I got it." With that, she stood up with the walkie in her hands.
Joyce gave Nancy the walkie-talkie in hopes that Mike would answer his sister out of the rest of them. "Mike, are you there? Mike? Mike, it's me, Nancy."
They all waited for an answer, Olivia standing a few feet from Nancy, biting her finger nails anxiously. She cared for the kids more than anything, and she was worried for the new kid in the group. She knew about everything El had gone through and she didn't want her to go through that ever again.
"Mike, are you there? Answer." The light-haired girl's face was formed in hurt. "Mike, we need you to answer. This is an emergency, Mike." Olivia couldn't tell if Nancy was irritated or upset, truthfully, she figured it was both.
"Do you copy?" Nancy spoke through the walkie. "Mike, do you copy? I need you to answer. We need to know that you're there, Mike."
Hopper clearly had enough when he snatched the walkie from Nancy and pulling it torwards him. "Listen, kid, this is the chief. If you're there, pick up. We know you're in trouble and we know about the girl."
His words immediatly caused Olivia to sigh, dropping her face in her hands. She promised the kids she wouldn't tell anyone about Eleven, and she kept her promise, she just wasn't sure that they thought that.
"We can protect you, we can help you, but you gotta pick up-" Before the chief could finish his sentence, Olivia snatched the walkie-talkie from his hands out of anger.
"Give me it." She sat back down in the chair in the corner of the room, one knee brought to her chest. "Mike? It's me, Liv." She took a deep breath before pressing the button again. "Look, you can trust me. I told you I would keep your promise about keeping El safe. I didn't tell them about her, I swear, I wouldn't do that."
"If you are there at least tell us you are safe. If you aren't, tell us where you are and we can help you." She waited a few seconds before saying. "Trust me, trust us."
Only a few seconds later, the radio made a small static before they all heard, "It's Mike. I'm here."
The group all smiled as their ears heard Mike's voice speaking back to them. Hopper squinted at Olivia with a small smirk, wondering how she did it.
"We're here."

Nancy, Jonathan, Olivia and Joyce all sat on the couch anxiously, waiting for Hopper to return with the kids, unharmed. They all stood up when they heard a car approach the house, headlights reflecting on the walls.
The four all ran outside to see the kids walking away from the car. Olivia walked over to Eleven with a small smile on her face and her arms held out.
El smiled softly before attacking the older girl with yet another hug. The young girl felt safe with Olivia, and she couldn't explain it.
As Olivia kept her arm around El's shoulder, Nancy directed her eyes torwards the girl. She smirked softly while asking, "Is that my dress." Eleven looked up at Liv for approval before she smiled torwards Nancy.
