"Move! Emergency patient here!"
The emergency room was bustling with activity as doctors and nurses rushed to attend to the influx of patients. Among the chaos, a young patient was wheeled in on a stretcher, his body covered in bruises and blood. The team of medics attending to him immediately began working quickly to stabilise his condition and monitor his vital signs.
The paramedics wheeled the injured patient through the ER doors, the doctors and nurses scrambled into action.
"We need vitals now! Bring the trauma box!" The doctor yelled, rushing to the patient's side.
"Yes Doctor, right away." The nurse said, and they started.
Inside the ER, the unconscious victim was surrounded by the medical team. The Doctor checked his pulse and vital signs while the nurse prepared the emergency treatments. The team worked quickly and efficiently, as they knew every second counted.
A nurse began slowly administering IV fluids to the patient while another was getting a blood analysis ready.
The sound of machines whirring and beepings filling the air as door to the ER room closed, prohibiting any entrance further.
After 15 minutes of the chaotic mess, the patient's condition seemed to be under control, his heart rate back to normal and bleeding was stopped by medical measures. His breath was now steady. Thankfully the patient didn't lose much blood, or it would have been a disaster.
The doctor tending to the young boy's case, finally took off his mask and walked out of the ER, searching for the person who brought him here.
"Patient's guardian?" He asked around, and was quickly met with a smiling man.
"Here! I'm his guardian who brought him here!" A tall young man with an angelic appearance showed up, walking up to the doctor.
"How is Taehyun?" He asked.
"He's out of danger, thanks to you. If you didn't bring him here at the right time, he would have lost his life." The doctor smiled, patting the shoulder of the young man reassuringly.
"I'm glad I saved him at the right time then." He smiled and peeked inside the ER room, where Taehyun laid on the bed, connected to the IV drip, the monitor beeping with stability.
"Yes, what's your name Young man? We need to register it." The nurse beside the doctor asked, who was registering Taehyun's case.
"Oh my bad. It's Huening Kai." The taller replied, flashing a smile.

"You're awake?"
A sharp stinging sensation hit Taehyun brutally as soon as he tried to open his eyes, the strong smell of medicine and phenyl hitting his nose when he felt conciousness get back to him.
"Where am I...?" He whispered weakly to himself more than anyone else, trying to grasp his surroundings.
"Relax. Don't try to pressure yourself to wake up, you just underwent a surgery." The man sitting beside him chuckled, placing his warm hand over his head, stroking his shaggy brown hair gently, making Taehyun feel pleasant tingles through his body.
"So I survived again huh?" Taehyun thought to himself, keeping his eyes closed.
So he survived another suicide attempt. Great. Why couldn't he just die in peace?
"You really tested your luck with this one, didn't you Taehyun?" The unfamiliar voice spoke, catching Taehyun's attention.
How did this person know his name? He doesn't remember anyone in this new neighborhood knowing of him....so how?
"Who...?" He tried to ask, but his throat burned as his voice came out; the feeling similar to as if someone had scraped the inside of it, and passed warm water through it.
"Shh, don't try to do much. I already said that didn't I?" The voice replied again, softer this time, while he felt the hand still caressing his hair.
"Okay.." Taehyun mumbled, letting himself relax and keep his eyes closed, trying to figure out who this person might be.
"Your father...he came looking for you."
Hearing his father's name, Taehyun's body immediately tensed up, the horrible memories which pushed him to the edge last night trying to resurface once again.
"H-he did?" He asked meekly, finally opening his eyes. After a little blinking, his surroundings finally cleared to him; the face of the person talking to him becoming visible.
Beside him sat a Man with Jet black hair, wide-broad shoulders, and a relatively small face compared to his physique; unique sea blue eyes with triple-eyelids and thin pink lips curved into a smile directed towards him. With such a close view, Taehyun could count all the Little moles spread across his face, and the little bump on his nose.
The person looked like a perfect creation of God, and Taehyun couldn't remember where he saw him. The image and voice did ring a bell, but he couldn't remember where he saw him.
"No need to work you pretty little head so early, if you're wondering who I am, I'm your landlord." The angel-like man replied; the same smile present on his face, which made Taehyun feel a little at ease.
"Oh!" Taehyun gasped, the realisation finally hitting him. This was his 25 year old Landlord, Mr.Huening. He remembers meeting him just a week ago.
"Don't worry, I didn't tell him about your whereabouts. He doesn't know you live at my house." The man, Mr.Huening reassured him, and Taehyun finally took a breath of relief.
His father, the one he was trying to run away and hide from, was the sole reason why he had to drop out from University in the middle of Semester, and the reason why he was in this hospital in the first place.
"Thankyou Sir." Taehyun mumbled softly, looking up at the older, his presence and touch oddly comforting to him.
"No worries sweetheart, and you don't need to address me so formally. Just call me Kai." The man replied, giving him a head pat, which made Taehyun blush a little. It had been a long time he felt the touch of another person.
Was he this badly touch-starved? That he wanted Kai to caress his head a little more and stay by his side?
"Okay. Thankyou Kai." He whispered, voice still weak and a little scratchy.
"You're welcome. I'll leave now, I'll bring you lunch later yeah?" Saying that, Kai got up from the stool where he was sitting next to Taehyun, ready to take his leave, but Taehyun's words stopped him.
"You don't need to Kai... I'm not worth the trouble." Taehyun spoke up with a dejected tone, fists clenching the hospital bed sheets.
Why would someone care about him and go out of their way to bring him food? He didn't want to be a burden to his landlord and take advantage of his kindness. He already took him here probably... though they didn't talk about it, Taehyun knows Kai must be pitying him. He doesn't want to be pitied.
"It's because I want to."
"Huh?"
"Because I want to, Taehyun."
Kai's words made Taehyun float out of his array of thoughts.
He wanted to? Why would he? They were practically strangers.
"You live in my house, so we are housemates now. And my housemate is sick, shouldn't I take care of him? That's common courtesy Taehyun, if you're thinking you'd trouble me, you won't." Kai replied, as if he read Taehyun's exact thoughts and replied to him based on that.
What Kai said, did make sense...but he still felt guilty. Kai was already kind enough to him, he didn't want Kai to see him as a hassle too.
"B-but-" he tried to interject, but Kai was fast to stop him.
"No buts. I'm doing this because I wish so Taehyun, please rest. Don't pressure your head too much, you have a literal split forehead." Kai said a little sternly, which was enough to shut Taehyun up.
Maybe he was overthinking this. Maybe Kai didn't actually mind and was genuinely helping him.
"Okay... Thankyou again." He nodded with a flustered smile, to which Kai just smiled and ruffled his hair again.
"Good. See you later yeah?"
"Mhm. See you Kai."
