Soda leans over the counter, puffing his cheeks out in annoyance as he watched people walk back and forth up the street. It was Halloween but his boss made both him and Steve come in last minute, claiming that business would be booming and that they needed to hand out candy to trick-or-treaters.
So far they've had two people come in. And that was Ponyboy and Johnny about 10 minutes. The young couple had matching costumes since Ponyboy insisted that they dressed up. And Johnny, being as polite and as whipped as he was, agreed.
The blonde wanted that.
He wanted to dress up with Steve and go out and have a good time getting candy. But work came first. He was getting paid overtime for this, which was kind of nice. But still. He wanted to go out and walk around and see all of the cool costumes that people wore.
The teenager huffs loudly, resting his chin in the palm of his hand. Steve was simply stocking coolers since they didn't have any cars to fix. No one brought them in on holidays. And for once, he was thankful. At least Steve could keep him company.
Within a few minutes, Steve comes over and he hops up onto the counter, patting Soda's head. He could tell that the blonde was annoyed. Hell, he was too. Not that he wanted to go out for candy, but that he was called in last minute for this.
"It'll be alright, Soda," Steve says gently, looking at the blonde as he glared at everyone passing by. "We'll get you some candy or something."
"It ain't the same," Soda grumbles.
Steve nods his head and moves a hand to rub his back. They had been there for a couple of hours already and no one had really shown up for anything, drinks or gas or candy alike. Only Ponyboy and Johnny. Which was kind of interesting. Seeing them all dressed up made him snicker.
The brunette looks at the clock, sighing gently. They still had a decent chunk of their shift yet, but he was getting restless. And he didn't like working with a grumpy boyfriend. They were both miserable.
Eventually, he slides off of the counter and heads to the back, grabbing a couple of cheap bags. He then walks to the front door, flipping the sign around to say 'CLOSED' in big letters. Soda looks at Steve like he had grown two heads, standing up straight now. He wondered what his lover was doing.
"Come on, Sodie," Steve says, humming as he grabbed the keys from his back pocket. "We're going out. Ain't no one coming and we've worked ourselves to the bone all week."
The blonde couldn't help but grin widely, hopping over the counter excitedly and taking Steve's hand once he got close. Steve presses a big kiss to his cheek, turning off the lights and locking up once they got outside.
Seeing Soda this happy was always worth it. He'd give up today's pay for this. And he knew that he'd have to. But he wouldn't have it any other way. He could handle getting chewed out later.
Soda was happy, squeezing Steve's hand tightly. He uses his free hand to grab one of the bags from his lover, humming excitedly. This was really nice.
The two spent the next few hours, going door to door and getting candy. Soda got a lot more than he did, but he didn't mind at all. Everyone of all ages loved Sodapop and how bubbly he was, swindling more than a handful of people into giving out extra candy.
The brunette was just happy to be by his side, happily being tugged around wherever the blonde wanted. And once their bags were full, they made their way back to the Curtis house, plopping onto the floor in the living room.
The two could hear loud giggles and thwacks coming from Ponyboy's room and assumed that they were in there having a pillow fight as they hopped around. Both of them were good kids. And Steve hoped that they had a good night.
Soda snuggles up to Steve, dumping his candy on the floor to observe all of what he got. And it was sure a lot. He had ended up asking someone for an extra bag so that his didn't split and spill on the streets.
Steve watches the blonde fondly, simply sitting his own bag aside. It was decently full as well, but he'd probably end up giving a lot of it away to whoever wanted it.
"Thanks for taking me out," Soda says, pressing a kiss to Steve's cheek. "It means a lot that you wanted to."
"Shucks, I couldn't take seeing you so bummed out," Steve says, nosing at his cheek gently in response. "You looked like an angry puppy dog."
The blonde couldn't help but laugh, digging through his candy absent-mindedly. He had a really good time, costumes or not, walking around. And he knew that Steve did too. He had a big smile on the whole time.
"Wanna spend the night?" Soda asks. "Can use my old room since Pone's probably got Johnny for thr night."
Steve nods a bit, humming. He'd always jump at the opportunity to spend the night with Soda. It was a lot better than being at home.
"Yeah, I'll stay the night," Steve says. "You know I couldn't ever tell you no."
The blonde giggles and he turns his head to look at Steve, a big grin spreading across his lips. He leans in and presses their lips together gently. The older teen kisses him back gently, pulling a after a minute. He wraps an arm around his lover and tugs him impossibly closer.
"You're cute," Steve murmurs gently, causing Soda's cheeks to flush red. He was always flustered when Steve complimented him.
"Well you're cute too," Soda responds gently. "Real cute."
"Thanks, Sodie."
And with that, the two spent the rest of their night sorting through their candy or snuggled up in bed. It was wonderful.
