Johnny woke up coughing his lungs up, trying to catch his breath before he would pass out. He groans weakly and a headache moved onto him, making the boy squeeze his eyes shut in pain.
His mom walks into the room and sees her son in such a weak place, places a hand on his forehead weakly. She frowns and sighs a little.
"Oh no," his mom murmurs. "Someone's got a fever. You're on bed rest today, all right?"
Johnny nods his head before weakly turning to grab his phone. She takes it from him and purses her lips.
"What do you think you're doing," she asks. "Bed rest. No games on your phone."
"C-call Daniel," he murmurs quietly, body falling back against the bed. "H-he can bring my s-schoolwork."
His mom nods in understanding before smiling a little as she got into his phone. Johnny's home screen was a picture of Daniel making a goofy face while his lock screen was Johnny kissing his cheek.
The 18-year-old never did tell her about them being together, he must have forgotten. She just looks at him before smiling more.
"I'm guessing Daniel is just a bit more than a friend, huh," she teases, going into his contacts. "And I'm guessing he's the one with all the hearts around his name."
"M-mom not now," Johnny whines, his face going bright red. "J-just call him."
Johnny's mom nods and presses call, putting the phone up to her ear. She hums as it rings before finally getting an answer.
"Hello," Johnny's mom questions. "This is Johnny's mom and I wanted to say that he wasn't coming to school today. He wanted you to grab his schoolwork."
There was a pause while she was listening, slowly nodding her head. He had asked why.
"He's just got a fever and he's coughing pretty bad," she says. "Its either a nasty cold or a small case of the flu. Thanks, Daniel, we'll see you in a while."
She hangs up and sets the phone on Johnny's nightstand, giving him a small smile. The woman runs her fingers through her son's hair for a minute.
"Daniel said he'd be over after school with your work and he hopes you get better soon," she says. "He sounded awful worried about you... Looks like you found a keeper."
"M-moooom," Johnny whines.
She laughs at him gently, pulling her hand away from his head. His mom stands up and walks to his bedroom door.
"I'll get you some medicine and I'll be right back, okay?"
"O-okay mom."

The 18-year-old slowly wakes up for the third time that day, slowly sitting up in his bed. He'd only woken up because his mom needed him to take medicine or at least try to ear.
Johnny wipes the sleep from his eyes and grabs his phone, checking the time. His boyfriend got out of school almost an hour and a half ago.
Did Daniel just show up to drop off his work and then leave? Did he forget that he had to come over?
Then, his bedroom door opens and he turns quickly, his heart almost jumping out of his chest. Johnny starts coughing.
"Sorry Johnny," Daniel apologizes, dropping the bag he was carrying. "I couldn't get here so fast because my mom told me to do some chores and I had to pick up a few things for you."
Johnny stops coughing after a minute, spitting out some green substance into a tissue before dropping it into the trash by his bed. The younger boy sits next to him, rubbing his back gently.
"So other than coughing your insides up," Daniel starts. "How was your day?"
"I slept most of the day," Johnny murmurs, leaning his head against Daniel's shoulder. "But I kind of feel better."
"That's good," Daniel says, pressing a kiss to his warm temple. "I brought you some things to make you happy and or feel better."
Daniel grabs the bag from the floor and opens it, pulling out all the items. Johnny smiles gently, knowing he actually cared.
"I got you some cough drops, 7-UP, some tissues, crackers, and just because of a candy bar."
"You're a special one, aren't you," Johnny says, humming.
"You know it."
"What about my schoolwork," Johnny questions him.
"I gave it to your mom downstairs. She said she didn't want you to do it while you were sick since you need rest," Daniel says. "But she let me come up here."
"I missed you all day," Johnny murmurs.
Daniel wraps his arms around him loosely, kissing his cheek. He was still kind of warm.
"Man, you still are awful warm Johnny," Daniel tells him. "I can leave and let you get some rest."
"Don't go," Johnny whines. "I was just complaining about how I missed you."
The older boy pouts slightly, something he never did unless he was sick or wanted something. Daniel can't help but 'awe' at him.
"Fine, I'll stay just until you fall asleep, alright," Daniel asks.
"Fine," Johnny drags out.
Daniel leans back and lays in the bed slightly, his head and neck against the wall. Johnny lays down and rests his head against Daniel's chest, listening to his steady heartbeat.
The younger boy gently plays with Johnny's hair, humming a small tune as he does so. Johnny smiles gently before closing his eyes, slowly falling asleep.
