4. late night calls
ACT ONE, CHAPTER FOUR
'LATE NIGHT CALLS '
๐๐๐๐ was bored.
There was no other way to say it, she was simply bored. She didn't know what to do, nothing caught her interest on Netflix, no books seemed worth it to start when she could get tired of it after two minutes, and Loki was sleeping.
She had absolutely nothing to do.
But fortunately, her phone rang, and she immediately accepted the call without even looking at the ID.
"Hi!" Lexi greeted, smiling when she heard a little laugh from the other side of the phone that she recognized immediately. "Hi!" He replied with the same enthusiasm.
"What's up Clayyy? " She dragged out his name, rolling on her back so that she could stare at the ceiling. "Not much, I was bored and couldn't sleep so I called you. Why are you awake?" He asked, and Lexi could hear the boy doing something on his PC, hearing the different clicks of the keys. She hummed and just shook her head.
"Nothing, I was so bored, thank God you called. I thought I was going insane, ugh." She groaned, moving her phone away from her ear to put it on speaker, and walked to the mirror. She took the chair from her desk and placed it in front of the mirror. "Well, I'm glad I called you the. So, something exciting happened today?" He asked, and Lexi smiled as she heard his sincere voice filled with curiosity.
"Nope, I woke up, ate, took Loki out, came back, worked out a bit, and then did nothing because Loki didn't want a long walk so we were out again but for only half an hour. He's sleeping now, and he looks so cute." She gushed, smiling at herself while gathering her hair to make two french braids.
"Aw come on! You did some things! I- I stayed at home all day and did nothing. Just called some friends for work." He complained, his voice at the end sounding like a whine. Lexi laughed, starting to twists the strands of hair to do the first braid. "Oh! What job do you do? I just realized we know nothing about each other's." She said.
Clay hummed in agreement, "Hey, do you want to face time maybe? It's fine if you don't-" Lexi cut him off, a slight pink blush colored her cheeks. "Nono, let's do it. I'll call you back right now." She said, hanging up, checking herself out in the mirror. She then faces timed Clay, and he answered almost immediately. His phone was placed against something, and he sat on what Lexi knew was a gaming chair, and she could see the rest of his bedroom.
His room seemed...almost empty, there was a bed and a wardrobe, but she couldn't see pictures, posters, or anything on the walls. But he did have the led lights. At that moment, they were green.
She turned her attention to him, who was frowning while looking at the phone. "Why is your camera off?" He asked, rolling his eyes with a smile when she groaned. "Listen, I was braiding my hair, so now I look awful with a half braid." She tried to explain but he shook his head, a small smile on his face. "Oh come on now, just turn it on! I promise I won't make fun of you." He teased, a smirk on his face.
Lexi blushed, having to suppress her urge to ask him to talk in that voice again, and just did as he asked her, turning the camera on.
"Here, happy?" She asked, placing her phone against some books so that Clay could see her properly. "Yes, this is much better." He chirped, a small smile on his face.
"Right...So, what job do you do?" She asked, glancing at him for a second before looking back at the mirror to help her see how she was doing her braid.
He whined, throwing his head back, and Lexi cursed her mind for finding that hot. "No, I'll sound like a total nerd if I tell you." He complained, making her laugh. "Come on, tell me! I promise, I also won't make fun of you, even if you're a nerd." She teased, chuckling as he complained.
"I usually code, I and my friends work for this...company that- that gives us some requests from clients and we code it for PCs." He explained, coughing at the end.
She hummed, nodding her head. "That's cool, my little brother once tried to teach me how to code, but I couldn't understand shit. He, however, is a PC genius. I have no idea from who he takes it since both my parents still ask him how to download music on their phone." She laughed while he let out a snort, shaking his head.
"It's just something we coders have. My family doesn't know how to code, and I did try to teach my little sister but she just wanted to play and she threatened me, to let her play or she would dye my hair pink or something." He explained, his hands moving in the air. Lexi laughed, glancing at him with a smile. "How many siblings do you have?" She asked, curiosity swimming in her eyes.
"I have two sisters and one brother. One sister is older than me, then there is me, then my little sister, and then my little brother. You?" He asked. "Nah I only have one little brother, he's 17 now so I don't know if that counts as little anymore." She explained,
"Nah, he will always be your little brother. It's the same for me, my little sister, Julie, she's fourteen and I just- I just see a damn baby when I look at her. Same for my little brother Oliver." He explained, nodding his head. "Exactly! I look at Noah and think 'Woah, he's taller than me now and I used to help him walk!' It's so weird!" She explained, letting out a laugh.
"So, what job do you do?" He asked, chuckling. "Ok, just promise me you won't laugh." She asked, her cheeks already becoming red. He smiled softly at her and nodded. "You know you don't have to tell me if you're not comfortable right? I don't want to make you feel like you have to tell me." He reassured her, and Lexi felt at ease when she heard his gentle voice.
"No, it's fine. So, I have two jobs. One is simply as a waitress in a bar, while the other is..." Lexi took a deep breath, biting her lip. "I'm writing a book? So I guess you could say I'm kind of a writer." She mumbled, not looking back at the phone. "What- Lexi that's amazing!" Clay practically shouted, his eyes shining with excitement.
"Is it your first book that you will publish or?" He asked, smiling at her to put her at ease. "Well, I've worked for some smaller authors to help with their books, and they said I had some good ideas and to think about writing my book. I started writing properly like- four years ago, and I published online a short book when I was 19, but for the past year, I've been working on this new book. Now I'm almost done, I have to finish the last five chapters." She breathed out, excitement clear in her voice.
"Oh wow! That's pretty amazing! Promise me to give me a copy when you do publish it?" Clay asked, smirking when she blushed but nodded nonetheless.
"You'll be the first one to read it, how does that sound?" She teased, finishing her second braid and turning to face her phone, staring at Clay. He smirked at her, passing a hand through his dirty blonde hair. "It's a deal." He stated.
