MARA'S MISC:

this book is SO underrated.

i started reading this book after ghost ever so kindly spammed my steve series and i am SO SO SO glad that i did. this book packs so much into it, having well fleshed out and written characters, amazing writing and detailing, and fantastic plot points added onto the crazy plot of the show.

this plot is so good. following the show, it adds onto the whole hawkins lab/brenner/eleven plot line with the two main oc's having powers! normally i'm not a huge fan of oc's having powers just because authors don't write it well enough but thunderstruck is an exception! ghost writes the powers so well and there aren't any plot holes that go with rowan and alistair having the powers they have, which MOST fanfics end up having in the end. she makes the powers plot refreshing with how she writes rowan and alistair not only using but suffering with their powers, having to keep them hidden for the sake of a) not being seen by normals but b) not being taken back by brenner!

characters are so fucking well written. rowan, specifically (the others are also great, but this is mainly her story!!). not only is rowan an intelligent badass who doesn't hold her tongue, but she also represents the asexual/ace community which i think is AMAZING! it's refreshing to see fics with representation like this, ESPECIALLY when it's well written, which it is!! ghost does such a good job of adding rowan being ace to the plot without making it her whole character/personality (another thing authors fail to do sometimes). it adds even further because this is the 80's and people weren't very accepting of anything other than straight (which we see with billy....)

rowan is also different than other oc's i've read!! she's not rich or popular or even necessarily nice to those she doesn't know. it makes her character so much more interesting to read about. she has SO many character traits that make her a genuine human rather than a box of a character.

alistair also has such a fleshed out personality!! but, i will save his as well as cami and valerie's reviews for when i get to their stories!

the relationship rowan has with cannon characters, as well as her family is also SO well written??? i LOVE the graveswood family dynamic and how chaotic yet loving they are to one another. the plot choice that rowan and alistair live with their aunt and that their parents are dead was such a cool choice, and i LOVE how it's portrayed (as well as how the rest of the graveswood family is before s3)

rowan's relationship with her brother is also so pure and precious. ghost truly wrote them like REAL siblings with their little tiffs and hair ruffles yet sentimental moments and protective natures, and i can relate them to me and my little brothers sometimes, which is sweet. ofc we can't forget about aunt aco and rowan's relantionship too.

some other pairs i love are max & rowan, dustin & rowan, as well as eleven & alistair (and rowan & el). ghost writes these dynamics so freaking well.

nancy, jonathan, and rowan are also written so well as a trio. rowan fits RIGHT into the monster hunting duo that jancy already was—i wish she was in the show with her sarcastic jabs. she doesn't totally third wheel them and has a real role in discovering the demogorgan and what happened to barb. specifically i'm rather excited to see more of her and nancy's friendship as the book continues,

now....i have to talk about stowan.

god, steve and rowan's story is SO SO SO SO good!! i love the enemies to lovers trope and it's fantastically written in thunderstruck! rowan and steve continuously clash the entirety of s1, and their banter is so perfect. while enemies in s1, they were my babies (especially during their little moments). the way they evolve from total enemies in s1 to finding comfort in one another and denying feelings in s3 is so perfect of character development and plot development. like UGH.

rowan being so different than steve adds to their romance! she isn't his "dream girl" by any means. she's completely different than nancy with her grunge clothing and boots and scowl and sometimes bitchy personality. she lives in a trailer park and her family is known for being kooky and different. they're total opposites! i fucking LOVE this about them! it makes how they come together so perfect :)

the slow burn that stowan has is so rewarding, too. it isn't painful because of how ghost writes them. the way she writes their shift from enemies, to friends, to close friends is so perfect, and the details and moments she weaves in to add to their friendship is so beautiful.

stowan are my babies. can't wait to see them in a real relationship because somehow i'll love them even more.

i've yapped enough about the book, but not enough about GhostWriterGirl-1 herself.

ghost's writing is SO perfect. she packs detail, horror, the essence of stranger things and humour into paragraph after paragraphs, as well as providing heartfelt and emotional moments that break my heart and stitch it back together again. she is SO underrated as an author.

ghost ALSO happens to be a pretty sweet person in general, which adds to how great her writing is :)

while i haven't finished the book, thunderstruck is one of my favorites. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE go and read the book, (as well as it's sister stories that follow alistair and cami & valerie) and give ghost the hype she forever deserves. if you aren't into stranger things, still go give a follow and check out the many other books ghost has to offer, which are just as good as thunderstruck.

(everything related to thunderstruck belongs to GhostWriterGirl-1!)
