no but for real this book is underrated and so is mvybanksss as an author (and NO i am not just saying that because she is my girl i really do mean it. idk why she doesn't get all the love she deserves bc her writing is so special )

anywho, this book is truly amazing. i'm literally THE og reader of this fanfic and you need to hop on the train right now.

kensie's writing is so good. like it's honestly crazy how she manages to make an already funny, emotional, and overall fun script like obx even more funny, adorable, depthful, and full of plot. the way she adds details and describes certain scenes is truly precious. not to mention how she PERFECTLY adds in the character that is avery decker without making her seem like a carbon copy of kiara.

the plot is very well written. even though this book is only about halfway through the events of obx1, it's amazing. as stated before, this book starts in s1 of obx (with a little chapter that introduces how the main oc found her way into the Pogue's). kensie perfectly weaves the oc into the treasure hunting chaos, while also giving her personal traumas and pstd, as well as parent issues that add another layer (no spoilers guys but avery's got that sad girl past)

characters. ugh i could yap about avery richelle decker all day. she is SUCH a good edition to the obx universe and the pogues!!! her character is so unique (she's not a born islander) and i just adore her. she's stern and caring and funny--shes actually the loml.

A LOT of obx writers fall into the hole that is making their fem oc JUST like kiara or stealing kie's role entirely. it's a really easy thing to do. but avery is not like that and kensie has fleshed her out so well (avery over kie ANY day). she's not "one of the boys" and she's not a pick me. she's a perfect addition to the pogues, well written, and such a fun character to read with her background.

averys relationship with the cannon characters are also so adorable???

her and john b are literal siblings. the nicknames, the banter, the humor--its all perfect. im actually a sucker for found family when it comes to john b & the oc (i did it in my own fic) and kensie doesn't fail. she writes john b perfectly if i also may say...

the tension between her and kiara is also fun to read! i freaking love kie slander and that's all avery does so....

and then there's her and the camerons!!! im so excited to see her relationship with sarah grow and the obvious tension between her and rafe got me ready too (NO this is not a rafe fic catch me dead giggling over rafe & avery).

kensie also writes all of the obx characters so perfectly it blows my mind

okay okay now the part we've all been waiting for....

GOD i love these two. i love them. they're mine. mwah mwah mwah. KICKING THE BED GIGGLING EVERY TIME THEY HAPPEN.

in more normal language, jj & avery as a relationship and as just a duo is SO perfect. she understands him, listens to him. he cares for her more than he cares for himself and protects her forever. they are the definition of perfect even with the flaws they have separately. my bed gets abused by me punching it every time i read a snippet of them bc they're so fucking cutesy.

usually im not for full fast burn but they're the acception. like i could not wait for them to kiss.

the way kensie writes jj too is so beautiful. she truly fleshes out his backstory and trauma and gives him vulnerable moments with avery that lets you see through him. writing jj maybank perfectly is hard but somehow she manages to do it??? as she manages to do so many other amazing things with this fic???

im missing so much over jjavery but it's best i stop yapping before its too late. they are the freaking best.

as if i don't do this enough, it's time i yap about mvybanksss herself.

kensie could be the best person ever. the best person in my life probably. there's a reason she's tagged in every summertime sadness chapter or on my mb every week. she is SO funny, so supportive and the least judgement all person. it's an honor to know her outside of this app and to truly be her friend. i don't mean to get low-key sappy but it's true. (it's a shame i only met her in 2023 she's truly a wonderful human).

her writing is amazing. she packs emotion, love, humor, and cannon all into one. she thrives where i fail in the art of writing beautiful filler. she knows what she's doing and ill forever be reading her books, as should everyone who is reading this. she's actually so underrated like why do I have more followers when she's sitting here with writing better than mine??

while it's only halfway through obx1 PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE PULEASE go and read dress for my own sanity. while you're at it, go and follow kensie too bc i said so (and you don't want to miss out on the kensiemara lore, which you'll dive deeper into the minute you find her message board. if somehow this book doesn't peak your interest, she has PLENTY of others that deserve just as much attention including a chris sturniolo && chase stokes fic!
