You saw the way his lips curled up in a tiny smile whenever he talked with her.

But it wasn't for you.

You felt the way his aura lifted once they came back from a mission together.

That wasn't for you, either.

So, why?

Why did you continuously have feelings for a man who'd never have any for you?

"Giyuu!" you heard. Turning, you saw the insect pillar jogging up to the male, her typical smile on display. "You're ready for that mission, right?" 

You could tell why he liked her more.

She was cheerful, strong, bubbly, happy and was able to hold her own. He'd known her for longer, whereas the two of you ere nothing more than strangers with the same title. She was special, and caught the attention of many.

You were the completely opposite. You were one of the newer pillars, not as strong, and definitely didn't stand out as much as Shinobu. You were bland and boring.

You watched as they walked together to the town. After they were out of your line of vision, you turned around, only to smack into the torso of a certain fiery pillar. Looking up, your half lidded [e/c] gaze met red and yellow, and you recognized the hues belonging to none other than the fire pillar himself.

"..."

No one spoke for a while, but as you turned to leave, you heard him say something in a quiet volume he'd never used before.

"You like him, don't you?"

Twisting your body to look at Rengoku, you tilted your head and sighed. He was like the older brother you'd never had. He was there for you whenever you needed cheering, whenever you needed help, whenever you need another pillar of support.

"Yes I do," you replied, a small rueful smile appearing on your lips before quickly vanishing. Looking up, you closed your eyes as a soft breeze ruffled your hair, blowing strands into your face. "But his heart is not for me."

There was more silence, and then he spoke up once more.

"Now, you don't know that!" Rengoku cheered, and you almost smiled at his effort to cheer you up. "He could just be hiding! But, you'll be okay!"

You let out a little chuckle, smiling up at the tall male before thanking him.

"Thanks, Kyo," you grinned, passing him briefly as he watched you leave.

As you arrived under a tall willow tree and sat down, closing your eyes, you felt someone's presence plop down beside you. Or, to be more specific, the presence of two fellow demon slayers.

Opening your eyes, you saw Obanai and and Mitsuri, both peering down on your resting form. Around the snake's neck was Kaburamaru, who stared at you. The snake never seemed to like you, but you didn't know why.

"Hey, [y/n]-chan, you good?" asked Mitsuri, and you smiled warmly at the love pillar before shifting into a better position. 

"I'm all good here!" you chirped, and the snake pillar raised an eyebrow suspiciously. Pointing a finger in your direction, he mumbled things from behind his mask.

"You seem awfully chipper," he spoke, and you sweat dropped.

"No, I'm always this way," you muttered, closing your eyes again. 

"See you later, [y/n]-chan!" cheered Mitsuri, and you listened to their footsteps fade away before closing our eyes once more.

After a few moments, you heard the loud chatter of demon slayers and among them, you only heard a few words before you shut the entire world out.

"Wow, Tomioka-san, Shinobu-san, you're together now?"

Ah, his heart really wasn't for you.
