❝CHAPTER TEN❞

━︎━︎━︎━︎𝐖𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐒𝐇𝐄 𝐖𝐎𝐊𝐄 up the next morning, there was a sense of relief that seemed to dance in her stomach. Knowing the truth meant everything to her, it's all she'd been searching for since she found out she wasn't truly a Wells. She stared at herself in the mirror, hand holding the white stripe that was almost taking up half of her head now. She'd forgotten to ask about her hair. She shrugged to herself, she would figure it out later. She placed her moonstone around her neck, smiling gently to herself in the mirror. She was proud of who she was, of who her mom was. Now finding the moonstone was the next part of her plan.
Wren made her way downstairs, making herself a bowl of cereal and leaning against the kitchen bar as she ate, as per usual. She watched her parents stare at Addison and her new look. Wren couldn't help the smirk of amusement that pulled at her lips. She knew that she was going to get blamed for this, she always did when it came to Addison not doing something their parents didn't like. Sadly, Wren couldn't take the credit for this one, but her parents didn't have to know that.
"So." Missy finally said, sitting her spoon down as she stared at her daughter. "New look?"
"I like it." Addison shrugged her shoulders nonchalantly. "Wren likes it. My new friends like it."
"Wren likes it, huh?" Dale looked at his daughter, the one that was older and a pain in his side some days. "Addison, did you join a rock band?" He then looked over at Wren. "Wren, what have I told you about encouraging your sister to change things about herself that doesn't need changing?"
Wren snorted in amusement. "I didn't do it. But you don't believe that."
"Wren, sweetheart."
"Mother, darling."
Missy stared at Wren for a moment before looking at Addison. "You don't have to listen to her all the time, you know."
Addison scoffed in disbelief. "It's not Wren's fault, mom. This isn't her doing. I wanted this."
"But she didn't discourage it, did she?" Dale questioned.
"Dad, don't blame Wren for it."
"It's okay, Addison." Wren assured her sister, walking over to her and placing a hand on her shoulder. She looked between her parents, giving them both a bright sarcastic smile. "They've been doing it my whole life." Wren walked towards the door. "Come on. We're going to be late."
Wren walked out the door and Addison was hot on her heels. Addison caught up to her and the two sisters walked side by side. They looked more like siblings now than they ever have before. Addison looked at Wren for a moment, a frown pulling at her lips. "They shouldn't treat you like that."
"Oh, Addi, I hate to break it to you, but it's been like that since I got a hold of a pair of scissors when we were five and cut your bangs for you. I've always been too much for our parents to handle. I'm okay with that." Wren offered her sister a smile. She nudged her sister. "Come on, wolf girl. You're supposed to be mean and fierce. Not sentimental and apologetic."
"You have to admit, you can be a bad influence sometimes." Addison said with a smile. Wren laughed but didn't deny it.
As the school came into view, Wren looked at her sister. "You ready?"
Addison smirked. "Born ready."
The two entered the building and immediately all eyes turned to them. The sisters walked past students, their heads held high. As they walked past the Acey's the three cheerleaders quickly stood up. "Whoa, bad hair day?" Lacey asked, making the two sisters turn and look at them.
"Bad hair life?" Stacey asked.
"I think it looks great." Addison said, taking a step towards them.
"Yeah, not so much." Jacey said as the three snapped their fingers.
"Addison, if you ever expect to be cheer captain―︎"
Addison cut Lacey off. "Well, maybe I don't. Maybe cheer team isn't for me after all." Even this took Wren by surprise. This made the three gasp before they quickly walked away whilst Addison held a smirk on her face.
"Addison!" The sound of Zed's voice made the two turn. "I was up all night thinking. You're not a werewolf, you can't be."
"But I love midnight strolls," Addison argued.
"Yeah, you like sunsets too. That doesn't mean you're a vampire."
"Zed. . ."
"Look." Zed stopped her. "It's really hard being considered a monster. Trust me."
"All I've ever wanted was to find my pack. And now I finally have." Addison pulled out the box that contained the moonstone necklace, opening it up and handing it to Zed. "When I see the wolves, I'm going to put this on. And I'm really sorry I can't make the debate, but I need to find the wolves. Good luck." Addison quickly pulled Zed into a hug before pulling away and grabbing Wren's hand as she began to walk away. Addison then quickly let go of Wren's hand and ran back over to Zed. "Whoops, almost forgot. You'll do great, Zed."
Wren looked over her shoulder at Zed, smiling at him before following her sister. "So. . ." Addison looked at Wren. "Wyatt and I may have kissed last night. . ."
Addison's eyes widened and her smile grew large. "Oh my God, Wren that's amazing! I'm so happy for you!"
"Thanks," Wren blushed. "I've never felt like this, Addi. If I'm being honest, I'm kind of nervous."
"It's scary at first." Addison admitted with a nod. "But, it'll become the best feeling you've ever felt."
They turned the corner and the sound of Wyatt's voice grabbed their attention. "It's a good plan, Willa."
"What plan?" Addison called. The group of wolves turned their heads to look at the approaching sisters.
"We're going after the moonstone." Wynter answered excitedly. "Top secret. You can't tell anyone." There was silence as Willa and Wyatt looked at Wynter. Her eyes widened in realization. "Bad wolf, bad wolf!"
"You're going after the moonstone now?" Addison asked.
"It won't survive the detonation." Wyatt said, eyes looking between the two.
"Then let me join you," Addison begged. "Let us join you. I'm ready to become a wolf."
"If you really are one." Willa sassed making Wren straighten her shoulders.
"Attitude." Was all Wren said, giving that as a warning.
Addison quickly opened the box only to freeze. Wren frowned as she looked at her sister, watching as she looked up at the wolves with confused panic. "It's gone."
"You lost it?" Wynter asked in disbelief.
"Do you know how precious a moonstone necklace is?" Willa asked, angry. This time Wren didn't say anything. Willa had a right to be upset. "If she was serious about being a wolf, if she was the Great Alpha, she wouldn't have been so careless."
"No, I don't know how. I―︎"
"Stay out of our amazing hair." Willa snarled, flipping her hair and turning around and walking off. The wolves followed her.
Wren took a few steps forwards, coming to a stop in front of Wyatt. "She just had it, Wyatt. I saw it with my own eyes."
"She doesn't anymore." Wyatt said with disappointment.
"Wyatt!" Willa yelled her brother's name and Wyatt looked at her before looking back at Wren.
"I'm sorry, Wren." He softly said, taking a step away from her before forcing himself to follow after his sister. Wren watched him walk away, a pain shooting through her chest. She didn't like this feeling. Seeing him walk away from her with regret on his face, it physically pained her.
"I don't understand." Addison whispered, making Wren turn to look at her. She sat down on the bench that was between the two trophy cases. Addison continued to stare at the empty box in her hands, shaking her head. "Where could it have gone? Wren, I just had it. You saw it."
"I know." Wren nodded her head, walking over to her sister and sitting down beside of her and placing a hand on her shoulder. She pushed the hair from Addison's face. "You'll find it, Addison. I believe in you."
Addison didn't say anything as she stared blankly in front of her, lost in thought. "What did the elder tell you in the den, Wren?" Addison turned her head to look at her sister. They hadn't had the chance to talk about it because by the time Wren had gotten home, Addison had been asleep.
"We don't have to talk about this right now." Wren softly said, shaking her head.
"Wren." Addison looked at her, begging her.
Wren bit her lip before nodding her head. "I. . . my mother was a werewolf."
Addison sat up straighter. "Wren, that's amazing."
"Yeah." Wren nodded before a small frown stretched on her lips.
Addison noticed. "What's wrong?"
Wren pushed a strand of hair behind her ear. "My parents died trying to save me. Hunters killed my father." Tears started to well in her eyes before one slipped down her cheek and she quickly swiped it away, looking away from Addison. She couldn't let her sister see her cry. "My mom left her moonstone with me so that I could find out my heritage. In doing so it made her grow weak before she eventually died."
"Oh. . . Wren." Addison placed a hand on Wren's shoulder. "I'm so sorry."
Wren pushed back her tears and forced a smile. "It's okay." Addison frowned before quickly pulling her sister in for a hug. Wren didn't hesitate to hug her back.
