juhee had released her first mixtape in may 2017, around a year after yoongi released his own in 2016 and two years after namjoon released his. 

she titled it 'hwangju', following the pattern of the older boys naming their debut tracks after their stage names, and hwanju is the stage name for juhee's solo music.

the mixtape contained six tracks, each unique and distinctive in their own way. netizens noted juhee's style of 'drunk' rapping and her lyricism.

the album cover was significant in its own way. juhee had opted for a white dress, white bow, red rose against a white background, emphasising her femininity which had often been criticised by the media. however, netizens loved the look, pointing out its resembelance to an 'old money' sort of style, perhaps symbolic of the fact that bts had managed to become a household name when big hit had many financial problems, compared to others who were lucky due to their companies having waterfalls of cash.

this time, the cover had diverted from realism, to a more fun and bright animated style of video games.
