CHAPTER ONE

DO NOT COMMENT FOR ME TO UPDATE!  If you do, even as a joke, I will block you.

It had been surprisingly easy for Eris Trevil to adjust to her new life in Greendale. After she had found out that she was a witch, she had been angry at her mother for not telling her. The fact that she could practice magic was something that she found to be really cool. The fact that she might not have ever known had her grandmother not shown up pissed her off. She eventually got over it though.

Eris hadn't wanted to move but her grandmother had convinced her that Greendale would be a wonderful place and that she'd love it. She didn't end up loving it but it was a good and safe (ish) place for her to learn and practice magic.

She had managed to befriend the two "popular girls" in her middle school. Landry Bradford and Delilah Perkins had dominated the middle school scene. Now with a third girl in their duo, they seemed unstoppable. However once high school rolled around, they no longer cared enough to try to keep that status. It was "immature and stupid" as Landry put it. Delilah had said, "who gives a fuck?" And Eris never cared to begin with.

The two girls had been a great addition to Eris' life, successfully breaking her out of her shell by making her do things she otherwise wouldn't. If it weren't for them, she'd still be her extremely shy and reserved self. Now, she was only moderately shy and reserved. Progress.

Now the trio were juniors and ready to graduate. "I really think you'd have a shot at making the team if you tried," Delilah said. The three walked down the hallways of Greendale High, Delilah sporting a dark green and black cheerleading uniform. The word 'COUGS' was written in white across the cheer top's chest.

Eris rolled her eyes. "I don't know, cheerleading isn't really my thing," she said.

"Besides, she's not exactly the most athletic person," Landry added. Eris glared at her and shoved her shoulder.

"I'm athletic," she defended.

Landry snorted, "Yeah right." The three stopped at the blonde's locker and she twisted her combination into it before pulling the door open.

"Why don't you try out, Landry?" Delilah asked, her eyes pleading.

Landry gagged, "Cheer is a drag, the skirts are way too short, and you guys work way too hard practicing just to get sexualized every game. So in other words: hell no." She pulled out a tube of pink lipgloss and began reapplying it to her lips.

"Our skirts aren't short anymore, we got new ones. See," Delilah replied, doing a spin so the girls could see. They were a little longer. "And you guys would look so good in them," Delilah went on.

"I would look hot in that uniform," Eris agreed, thinking it over before shaking her head. "But I can't. I have too much stuff going on in my life right now and my after school life is crazy," she went on.

It was the truth. She had been doing a lot of catch up ever since moving to Greendale. Her grandmother had wanted her to be well versed in a variety of spells before her potential Dark Baptism. Potential because her mother was fighting her grandmother very hard about it. It was clear that Ivy didn't want Eris to have one and Eris wasn't even sure she wanted to have it. She was told that it was a choice. She could choose. If she chose the Path of Night, she'd have to say good by to her friends and human life. She wasn't sure she wanted to do that.

"Besides, I might be moving to a different school so you'd just have to replace me anyway," Eris added. Delilah sighed and Landry closed her locker door.

"I still can't believe you're leaving. And during your junior year? We're so close to graduating," the blonde said.

"Nothing's set in stone yet," Eris reminded. The three continued down the hall.

"But it's looking like it, right?" Delilah questioned.

"Not if my mom has anything to do with it," Eris replied.

"See this is why I love your mom. She's always trying to make sure you have a good and easy life," Landry said.

You have no idea.

"And another move would probably be so difficult," Landry went on.

"I wouldn't be moving, just going to a boarding school. I would still come back to visit," Eris explained.

Lie.

"Maybe," she then corrected.

"Ugh, this is so unfair. I mean, we finally added a third to our group and now you're just leaving? Who are we gonna replace her with?" Delilah said causing Landry to smack her in the head.

"Wow Del, I'm really feeling the love," Eris joked.

"Oh shut up, you know I love you," Delilah said.

"What boarding school was it again?" Landry asked as she swiped through her social media feed.

Eris shrugged before lying, "I don't remember. It doesn't matter anyway because I might not even be going."

Delilah looked over at her, "You better not. That way, you can join the team."

"Yeah, I'm gonna pass," Eris said. Delilah glared and looked over at Landry.

"Hard pass," the blonde said and Delilah scowled.

"You guys suck," she grumbled.

"It's not our fault Briana Sampson broke her leg attempting a backflip off of her trampoline. She should've known that some shit like that would happen with her luck," Landry said with a shrug.

Eris pushed her lightly, giving her a look before looking over at Delilah. "How is Briana, by the way?" She asked.

Delilah shrugged, "Considering she broke her leg in three places, I'd say she's good. And by good, I mean miserable. She hasn't stopped complaining in the group chat. She doesn't want Alina to replace her but we're down a girl in the pyramid and Alina doesn't want to come up with a new one. Briana's just gonna have to deal."

"You guys are bitches, did you know that?" Eris pointed out. The two looked at one another before shrugging.

"I've been called worse," Landry said.

"Ooo, like what?" Delilah asked. The three continued making their way to class, Landry telling them the story before they parted ways and headed in the direction of their separate classes.

••••

Lunch was probably Eris' favorite time of the school day. Not because of the food, but because she wasn't in class. It was also one of the few times she would see her friends during the school day. She only had one class with each of them and one with the both of them together so lunch was a time where they could regroup and fill each other in on anything that happened during the classes that they didn't have together.

Delilah was telling them about what went down during her geometry class. Apparently her geometry teacher had called on a student to answer one of the questions on the board and when the kid said that he didn't know the answer, Mr. Hilliker began taunting the poor boy who got so mad, her cursed Mr. Hilliker out, flipped over a chair and stormed out of the classroom.

It was safe to say that he would be suspended but at least he stood up for himself against that asshole of a teacher. "Mr. Hilliker is the fucking worst. That kid should've knocked his teeth in," Landry said, taking a bite out of her salad.

"Lewis was probably restraining himself. I mean, he would've gotten in so much more trouble if he actually hit the guy," Delilah said.

Landry made sure to swallow the salad completely before speaking. "Yeah but he deserved it," she said.

"Lewis would've been expelled from the school and Mr. Hilliker could've pressed charges had Lewis hit him. Deserved it or not, Lewis was smart to only flip the chair," Eris said, turning the page in the book she was trying to read.

"Exactly. But I agree with Landry, Hilliker deserves it," Delilah said.

"Okay Eris, your turn. Anything interesting happen in chem?" Landry asked.

"Does anything ever?" Eris questioned with a sarcastic smile.

"Your classes are so boring without us," Landry said. Eris only shrugged, taking another bite of her chicken sandwich. Delilah gasped suddenly as she remembered something. She slapped her hands onto the table and her head snapped to Eris.

"What are we doing for your birthday?"
She questioned excitedly. Eris felt her face fall slightly but she quickly recovered and smiled. Her birthday was in three weeks and it was safe to say she wasn't all that excited. Especially if she were to go through with the whole Dark Baptism thing. Her Dark Baptism would take place a few days after her birthday because that's when there'd be a full moon.

"Well, I think my mom might want us to hang out, just the two of us so we might have to hang out the day before," Eris said.

Landry picked up her phone. "Hold on, let me check my schedule," she said. She then began tapping away on her phone.

Delilah sent her friend an unimpressed look at her antics. Eris rolled her eyes as Landry continued to pretend to look at her "schedule," the blonde muttering to herself. Delilah snatched the phone out of her hand and glared at the blond before looking back at Eris and smiling. "She's free."

"She's free," Landry mocked, grabbing her phone back from the brunette.

"Anyway, what do you actually want to do? Like do you wanna go out to like a club or something?" Delilah questioned, wiggling her eyebrows.

"First of all, I'm turning seventeen, not twenty one. Second of all, there are no clubs in Greendale. And third of all, even if there were clubs around here, there's no way anyone would let us in," Eris said.

"I can get us fake IDs," Landry said.

"Go on," Delilah encouraged. "Del, don't encourage her," Eris said.

"Well maybe I want a fake ID," the brunette said before motioning for Landry to continue.

"I have a friend that can totally hook us up. We'll have the IDs in time for your birthday. We could just hit up a corner store in Riverdale, buy some alcohol, and have some fun," Landry explained, shaking her shoulders excitedly.

A look of disgust crossed Delilah's face. "Wait, why Riverdale?" She asked.

"Because we won't get recognized there," Eris said and Landry pointed at her with a nod.

"Bingo," the blonde confirmed.

Delilah whined, "But I don't like Riverdale."

Landry rolled her eyes, "We won't be there the whole time. Just to get booze."

"Are you forgetting that we're only seventeen?" Eris asked incredulously.

"Technically you're not seventeen yet, youngin," Landry pointed out.

"Don't ever call me that again. Better yet, don't ever use that word again," Eris replied causing the blonde to laugh.

"And underage drinking is against the law. We could get in trouble," Eris went on.

"Only if we get caught," Landry retorted with a glimmer of mischief in her eyes.

"I don't wanna be an alcoholic at seventeen," Eris said.

"Ugh, don't be so dramatic. You won't turn into an alcoholic," Landry groaned with an eye roll.

"Okay but your birthday's on Friday so if we hang out on Thursday then we can't get drunk because school," Delilah pointed out.

Eris shrugged with a smirk as she took a sip of her water. "Oh well, no underage drinking for us."

"Don't worry, if need be, I'll convince momma Trevil to let us hang out on Friday," Landry affirmed. Eris gave her a disbelieving look. "I can be very convincing," the blonde said, biting into the lettuce on her fork.

"Sure, Jan," Delilah said and Eris snickered.

"Stop fucking saying that," Landry hissed.

Delilah leaned forward, "Make me bitch."

"Okay guys, knock it off," Eris said, looking around the cafeteria to see if anyone was listening in.

"You are so annoying how are we even friends?" Landry asked.

"Aren't you the one who begged to be my friend? 'Oh please, Delilah, please talk to me. Be my friend. Love me, please.' It was honestly pathetic," Delilah retorted.

"That's not how it happened, snake, and you know it," Landry replied.

"That's how I remember it."

"Then you must have hit your head and rattled your brain, nitwit," Landry said.

"Oh fuck you, trash can," Delilah said.

"Trash can? That's the best insult you can come up with? How sad," Landry said with a fake sad face.

"You know what—"

"Guys! Cut it out," Eris said with a groan. "Seriously, why do you always do this?" She asked them.

"It's just harmless banter," Landry said innocently.

"Yeah, harmless," Delilah said and Eris rolled her eyes.

"What are we gonna do if you leave? There won't be anyone to break up our play fights," Delilah continued.

"You'll just have to learn when enough is enough," Eris replied with a shrug.

"You know we're gonna kill each other, right?" Landry asked.

"You guys survived before I moved here, I'm sure you can survive if I leave," Eris responded.

"But I don't want you to leave. Don't leave us," Delilah said, pulling Eris into a side hug. Eris patted her arm and looked to Landry for help. But the blonde was back on her phone and ignoring the two sat in front of her.

Eris sighed quietly. In all honesty, she didn't want to leave either. And if she had the choice, she would choose to be human.

°°°°

Welcome to chapter one. I really just wanted to introduce Eris' best friends and show you guys their dynamic and everything. I honestly love their friendship and want to include them as much as possible. But with how I want the pacing of the book to be, I'm not sure how much they will actually be included. I also decided to age Eris up for my sanity because I'm not sure how old Prudence is supposed to be and by the time I get to writing season one, Eris will be eighteen. Also, I know the school mentioned in CAOS that Sabrina attends is Baxter High. I made up Greendale High for my book's purposes because I wanted Eris to go to a different school than Sabrina. Hope you all enjoyed the chapter. DO NOT COMMENT FOR ME TO UPDATE!  If you do, even as a joke, I will block you.
