CHAPTER TWENTY ━━ amplification

OPHELIA, Scott and Stiles arrived into Beacon Hills Memorial seeing the hospital had been evacuated. Scott and Ophelia walked ahead of Stiles and his father, listening in for any sound of the Beast. They had followed Jordan Parrish, hoping to catch the Beast somehow.

The smell of burning flesh and blood lingered in the air of the hospital. Ophelia and Scott walked further down the dimly lit hall, eyeing the mess that was left over. Stretchers broken and fallen to the floor, paper work littered the floor alongside hospital tools.

With a tilt of their heads, hearing movement above them. "Fourth floor." Scott and Ophelia said in unison.

Walking through the corridors of the floor, fire lit up in certain areas off to the side of the four. A flaming body was hurled past the group. Ophelia grabbed Stiles yanking him back, as Scott held Noah back. The four looked down seeing Jordan Parrish dazed and confused. Ophelia walked down the hall fear flowed through her veins, "Scott..." Ophelia called out watching Scott down the hall. She kept her gaze down on the floor in front of her. Scott and Stiles approached her side seeing a shoe print. "That's not terrifying at all."

▂▂▂▂

"WHAT I'm about to show you isn't supposed to exist." Deaton explained to the trio.

"Well, werewolves, vampires, hybrids, and the lot. Aren't supposed to exist either." Ophelia mumbled. Scott nudged the hybrid, his lips twitching upwards.

"That is very true. But this here, is the only surviving evidence of Dr.Valack's time as Chief Officer of Eichen House." Deaton nodded with a smile to the Original. He placed the photos down in front of the trio, who looked down at the photos. Ophelia scrunched up her nose in disgust. Granted she's ripped peoples hearts out, along with other organs; as well as the occasional head, but this was something else. "To call it human experimentation would be charitable." Ophelia picked up a photo of a woman, her brows furrowed in confusion. "A banshee. She died screaming." The hybrid gulped and nodded placing the photo down.

"So, he drilled holes into their heads? All of them?" Scott asked.

Deaton who nodded to the Alpha. "That was the experimentation part. He did it to Werewolves, Banshees, Vampires, Witches, any creature he could get his hands on. If Valack found that trepanation would initially heighten their powers, but to levels that couldn't be contained."

"Great, so were dealing with a Scientist but Gollum style." Ophelia rolled her eyes. "So he wants to reach Lydia's powerful state?" She questioned further.

"Yeah, except she's going to end up like them." Stiles answered eyeing the photos.

"Worse, actually. Lydia's abilities were already pretty exceptional to begin with. Putting a hole in her head will be like causing a leak in a nuclear reactor. She'll hear everything. Every death, every dying scream, all at once." Deaton further explained.

"But she'll die." She looked up with wide eyes.

"Not only that. Her own dying scream-" Deaton began.

"Will kill us." Ophelia mumbled in realization.

▂▂▂▂

OPHELIA sat nervously in Scott McCall's kitchen, on the counter top. Sipping on another blood bag, the pack glanced to the hybrid once in a while; worry evident in their eyes. She seemed more jumpy lately, maybe it was because she was kidnapped again and now a family friend wants to kill her best friend, only he asked her to trust him.

And she doesn't want to tell Scott they can trust him incase she is wrong, and he does in fact turn on them, resulting in Scott dying again. Adding on to the fact her other best friend was trapped in a mental institution, being treated as if she was a ginny pig. She was broken out of her thoughts, as a hand held her bouncing knee.

She looked up seeing Malia and Liam in front of her, with worried eyes. She plastered on a fake smile and listened to the pack talk amongst one another. "You have a plan right?" Malia questioned Scott.

Stiles held up a keycard. "Stole this last night off an orderly. But it's useless 'cause they reset the codes each night." Stiles answered.

"What was the point in taking it?" Ophelia questioned, finishing off her drink.

"Getting to that. The only way to get Lydia out of Eichen is to make that keycard work again." Stiles said.

"How are you going to do that?" Liam spoke up from beside Ophelia.

"We're getting to that, okay. Just listen. I pulled all the history off the key card. Two weeks ago, there was a brownout and the security system rebooted. During a reboot, all the keycards revert back to a default code. So, if we trigger a reboot-" Stiles explained.

"We can get in." Ophelia confirmed.

"Card goes back to default code." Liam finished, smiling down at the hybrid who smirked in return.

"How are we going to cause a brownout?" Kira questioned.

"That's your part. You're going to draw power from the main line. But only enough that can cause the brownout." Scott spoke to the kitsune.

"Not a blackout. Do that and you would send Eichen into lockdown which would be bad. Very, very bad." Stiles explained.

"There's an electrical room behind the reception counter. The main power line goes into two breakers that run power to all of Eichen." Scott added on.

"Lets say, this goes down perfectly. How does a brownout get us into the Closed Unit of Eichen?" The pack stood up straight at the question.

"The system takes five minutes to reboot. In the five minutes all the alarms will be turned off, the key card should work." Stiles explained

"Liam, you and I get Stiles to the gate of the closed unit. But after that, he has to go on his own. We can't get past the Mountain Ash Barrier. And when we're gone, all anyone's going to think is that there was a reboot of the security system caused by a brownout." Scott explained.

"Uh, any questions?" Stiles asked the pack who all looked to one another then to the two boys.

"How do we get into Eichen in the first place?"
"What's our worst-case scenario?"
"What if the Chimeras show up?"
"What if I can't do it?"

The 4 spoke up in unison. "Okay, admittedly, a lot could go wrong." Stiles admitted.

"Everything could go wrong." Liam retorted.

"We have to do this. She's going to die in there tonight. And she might take a lot of innocent people with her." Scott announced to the pack. "What do you all say?" He asked the pack with a raise of his brows.

"Well, I say. Let the games begin." Ophelia smirked.

▂▂▂▂

"WELL, go on, love." Ophelia nodded to the kitsune, who stood nervously in front of the were-coyote and the Original.

"What?" Kira asked in confusion.

"Do it, your thing." Malia pointed to the bulb.

"What thing? I don't have a thing." Kira defended herself.

"You did it before. You had to learn how, right?" Ophelia nodded to Kira.

"Actually, no. It just happened." Kira denied.

Ophelia frowned in confusion. "How did you learn to wield a sword?" She questioned.

"That just kind of happened, too." She nodded to the red head.

"So you've never worked for anything and basically you're a cheater?" Malia bluntly stated. Ophelia smacked the were-coyote's arm.

"This wasn't my idea. How are we even getting past the front gate?" Kira rambled.

"I have a guy on the inside." Malia nonchalantly said.

Ophelia scoffed. "More like a pyscho." Malia glared at the hybrid, to which she raised her hands up in surrender. "Stop changing the subject. Do your thing." Ophelia nodded to the kitsune.

The two watched Kira hold the wires, the lightbulb glowing too bright. "Too bright! Kira!" Ophelia called out. The bulb exploded, pieces of glass hitting Ophelia's and Malia's face.

"It didn't work." Kira sighed looking down at the wires.

Ophelia yanked a piece of glass which was stuck in her cheek, Malia removed a piece from her forehead. "You think?" Ophelia gritted out. Malia rolled her eyes and handed another bulb to her. Ophelia sniffed the air sensing a change of aroma. She knew Malia's and Kira's scent but this one was definitely not theirs.

"Do you smell that?" She asked glancing around the room.

"Smell what? Burning glass? Kira's nerves? Yes." Malia retorted with a roll of her eyes. Ophelia furrowed her brows, and turned back to Kira and Malia.

After 5 boxes of light bulbs, broken glass littering the floor and table, and Ophelia's hair being singed by non other than Kira. The trio decided to take a small break, well Malia had suggested it. She had been irritated with glass clinging to her skin.

"Can I ask you a question?" Kira looked to the Original hesitantly.

"Depends." She raised a brow.

"Did your parents really try to kill you for centuries?" Ophelia swallowed a lump in her throat.

Malia looked to Kira. "Did your mother try to leave you in the desert with Skinwalkers?" Malia retorted seeing the frown on the red heads face. Kira bit her lip and nodded. Malia sighed and walked over to Kira. "You're gonna do this. It's going to work. Because this is the only way we're getting Lydia out of Eichen House." Malia affirmed.

Ophelia walked towards the girls, watching Kira grasp the wires again. "You're doing it." She said in excitement. "It's working." The light bulb then shattered, the lights above them following in pursuit.

"We should run." Ophelia glanced around, both girls nodded walking ahead of the hybrid. Ophelia stopped in her tracks, sniffing the air again. She narrowed her doe eyes to the back of the room.

"Lia!" Kira called out, Ophelia nodded and ran out.

▂▂▂▂

"SHE took out the whole school?" Scott asked.

"More like the grid." Ophelia mumbled.

"Look, I failed every single practice try. This isn't going to work." Kira frowned.

"How far can we get without the brownout?" Liam questioned.

"The front door." Stiles answered the beta.

"We're going." Scott assured the pack.

"Scott, we literally went through boxes of light bulbs, okay now imagine a whole bloody facility." Ophelia ran her hands through her thick hair.

"It doesn't matter. Kira can do it." Scott nodded to the kitsune.

"The key card won't work without the reboot. And there's no reboot without a brownout." Kira rambled.

"I know you can do this." Scott held her hands in his. "Anyone here think she can't?"

Liam looked with wide eyes and glanced to the hybrid, Ophelia raised her brows and shook her head, "Nope, not at all." Ophelia shrugged, shaking her head.

"Not me." Liam agreed, glancing around nervously.

"Well, I was the one who put you in the plan." Stiles added on still wary.

The pack then looked to Malia who stood quiet. "What?"

"I believe in you too, Kira." Stiles whispered to Malia. Ophelia nudged her nodding towards Kira.

"I'm going to be locked in the electrical room with her and Ophelia." Malia sighed out in annoyance. Ophelia narrowed her eyes at the were-coyote, glancing to Kira. Malia looked to the Original in annoyance, rolling her eyes she sighed. "You can do it."

"You guys are all crazy. We're gonna die." Kira spoke up.

"Well, I cannot be killed so, let em try." The Original smirked.

▂▂▂▂

THE three girls rushed into Eichen, hiding behind a stone wall out of sight from prying eyes. A patient came out of his room running nude through the halls of the asylum; Malia's friend. The three girls ran through doors to the electrical room.

"We're in. We did it." Kira happily stated.

"Not yet. Getting out is more complicated." Ophelia denied, looking down at her phone. "Twelve minutes." She walked towards the electrical box, ripping the door off it's hinges handing it to Malia, who placed it on the floor.

"Okay, Kira. You can do this." Malia reassured.

"Eleven minutes." Ophelia checked her phone again. Gnawing on her bottom lip.

Kira looked down to her notes. "I think it's these, but they're covered in rubber."

Ophelia flicked her claws out, ready to slice the rubber off. Kira's wide eyes met with her hands and grasping it. "You want to electrocute yourself?"

Ophelia raised a brow. "I'll heal." She retorted in confusion.

"Not if you die." Kira shook her head.

"I can't die." Ophelia remarked. Stretching out her hands ripping apart the rubber. "See still alive." She smiled to Kira.

Malia released a breath. "Four minutes."

"I can smell how nervous you are." Malia sighed to the kitsune.

Ophelia shook her head at Malia. "Not helping." She looked over to Kira. "You can do this Kira. Okay? You're a bloody kitsune, a fox. Just breathe and focus." She held Kira by her shoulders. "You're thinking to much, when you think to much you think negatively. Okay? So think less, just do." Ophelia spoke softly to her.

"Ten seconds. Nine, eight-" Malia counted down.

"Please stop counting." Kira pleaded Malia. As she grasped the wires, only for nothing to happen.

"Why isn't it working?" Malia questioned.

Kira sighed. "Because I have no idea what I'm doing."

"Stop worrying about what you might do. This isn't about anyone of us. It's about Lydia. We're here to save Lydia. We're here to save our friend." Kira nodded to Malia and Ophelia. Breathing in deeply, grasping the wires again.

"Keep going. You're doing it." Ophelia smiled to the kitsune.

Malia ran to the computer rebooting it. "It worked." Malia smiled to the two girls.

▂▂▂▂

"THOSE guards shouldn't be there." Ophelia mumbled.

"We can get past them." Kira nodded.

"We could. But we don't want to set off any alarm, until Lydia is out." Malia explained.

They closed the door, "Come on." Ophelia mumbled. "We can't lose Lydia to." Malia and Kira looked to the mumbling hybrid.

Malia bit her lip, "Drink from me." She hesitantly said. Ophelia furrowed her brows and shook her head in disbelief. "You reek of anxiety and you're jumpy. I'm not blind, ever since the Supermoon you've been, well, Void Stiles 2.0. Except with your heightened emotions it's even worse." Malia explained. "We can't get through tonight, if you're losing your mind. You need to control it. Just drink." Malia let her claws out slicing open her wrist. "I'll be fine, you can do it. Remember? Control." Ophelia gnawed on her bottom lip.

"Remember what you told me? Don't over think it. Just do it. If you think about killing us you will." Kira reassured the hybrid.

"Hurry. They're here." Malia held her wrist to Ophelia's lips, she fluttered her eyes closed and bit into Malia's wrist. Malia held the hybrid in her arms, her hand running through her long hair.

Ophelia moaned tasting the sweet metallic taste. She let go hearing Malia's grunts, her eyes flashing black and ambient, her fangs piercing the air. "Let's go." She breathed out, licking her lips, her eyes turning back to it's doe brown.

Kira stopped walking as electricity ran through her hands. "It's started."

Malia whipped around facing the kitsune. "We need to get you out of here."

"What about the others?" Kira asked the two girls.

Ophelia looked to the door to the stairwell. "I'll go."

"They should be by the morgue." Ophelia sped downstairs, looking for Scott and Liam. Letting Malia and Kira go towards the morgue, to check there.

Ophelia walked down the hall, avoiding and dodging Eichen workers. She sniffed the air smelling Liam's nerves, she sped up behind the two teenage boys. She watched them trying to break through the mountain ash. "It worked." She breathed. Liam shrieked at her shocking presence, placing his hand over his heart.

"Yeah, but we can't get through." Scott looked at the door.

"You've gotten through before, right?" Liam questioned, hand over his heart still in shock at the Original's appearance, who innocently smiled to the beta.

"It was a life and death situation." Scott replied.

Ophelia narrowed her eyes at the Alpha. "This is a life and death situation! If Lydia screams she dies along with everyone down here, innocent or not. That includes us all." She hissed.

"This isn't just a circle. It's a building." Scott pulled up his shirt revealing his wound on his broad chest. Ophelia glanced away at the sight. She had offered the Alpha blood but it hadn't worked, just helped heal him slightly.

"Key cards wont work, and the four security guards-" Liam rambled looking behind the two.

"What security guards?" Ophelia and Scott as in unison.

"Those security guards." Liam shakily held up his finger pointing behind the two. The two turned around eyeing the three guards.

"Seven hells." The Original muttered.

The guards walked down the hall flicking out their batons. The trio fell to the floor grunting, and crying in pain. Electricity ran through the three's veins. The guards proceeded to hit and attack the wolves and hybrid repeatedly.

Ophelia glanced up seeing Liam cry out in pain, Scott groaning as his head was being slammed against the concrete floor. Ophelia narrowed her eyes at the men above the Alpha and the beta.

Ophelia dug her claws into the floor, whipping her head up and roared, the walls rumbled rattling the gates. Signalling the pack, Scott and Liam both roared alongside the Original. Seeing Liam in pain and Scott, fuelled her anger more. She grasped the guard by the neck standing up, tearing into his throat. Scott and Liam stood in anger growling lowly.

Liam raised his clawed hand slashing the brunette across his chest. Smashing his head into the wall behind him. Scott grabbed the other throwing him in the gated door, his fist met with his jaw. Rendering them unconscious.

The trio looked to each other, "Lets go get Lydia."
