CHAPTER THREE ━━ condition terminal
THE pack waited patiently in the Beacon Hills Memorial Hospital, awaiting for Melissa McCall. The group quietly waited, they knew the banshee would survive thankfully due to Ophelia's blood.
Scott and Kira stood conversing with one another about what had happened before the four had shown up. Stiles paced back and forth not over the fact his girlfriend may have killed the kanima, Malia stood by recalling the men she had run into never seeing them before. Where as Ophelia stood silently glaring at the hospital's pale floors. Theo stood by the girl glancing to her every so often reassuring her it'd all be okay. Even though he knew the truth.
The group snapped their heads up seeing Melissa approach the nervous pack. "They aren't asking major questions, she'll be okay. You saved her in time Lia." Melissa smiled to the Original who returned the gesture. "She's still weak, your blood healed the wound, but she's still exhausted. So it'll be a while, any other supernatural details that I need to know about? They're still going to put her through surgery. Just to check her." She explained.
"It was the tail." Kira spoke up.
"Yeah, Tracy cut her with the tail, if that makes a difference." Scott nodded from his girlfriend to his mother. Melissa nodded, and headed back to the operating room.
"But it wasn't just Tracy. There were the others. The guys in the masks." Malia explained with wide eyes to the group. Ophelia nodded to her best friend, as everyone looked away not believing the coyote.
▂▂▂▂
OPHELIA arrived to her home after hearing Lydia was resting and doing better. Melissa forced the red head to go home and that they'd call her if anything else changed and they needed her again. Theo had offered her a ride home. Only to receive a glare from Stiles, who told the boy he'd be the one to take her home. Ophelia didn't care at that point, she just wanted to go home and call her brother. Something she often did when she needed a small get away; he'd often tell her to leave the small town and come back home, but he knew she'd never abandon the pack seeing as how she thought of them as a part of her family.
Ophelia sat on her king bed, dialling her brother's number. After the third ring he picked up, receiving a small smile from the red head."Sister, how lovely to hear from you." Niklaus Mikaelson's voice rang through his twin's ears.
"You as well Nik. How is Hope, Caroline, and the girls?" Ophelia asked, wanting to hear how her family was doing.
"They're good. Missing you as always." He chuckled through the phone, a smile grazing his lips.
"Well, obviously. I am their favourite. Maybe more so then their fathers." She cockily said, teasing her brother, who scoffed over the line.
"Don't get to full of yourself little light." Klaus chuckled over the phone. Ophelia smiled at the nickname he'd used when they were younger.
A moment of silence went by. "How are you holding up?" He asked carefully. He knew of her nightmares, and lack of sleep habits. She had those problems since she was young girl. Since the death of Erica then Allison, she wasn't very open about her feelings. Not to mention the others she had lost before arriving to Beacon Hills. He hated being away from his sister but he to had to care for his daughter and now step children, and soon to be wife; Caroline Forbes.
Ophelia bit her lip, and nodded even though he couldn't see her. "Uh, good. Yeah I'm better. Taking it day by day. I do miss you all loads."
"Good. You know you can come back here if you need to, granted Rebekah is off with Marcellus in Rome, Hayley and Elijah are off with some wolves in New York. Freya and Keelin are I believe home, and Kol and Davina are who knows where. There's always room here for you, sister." Klaus assured his sister, with a sad smile. He frowned hearing her sigh over the phone.
"I know, I'm almost done school-" Ophelia began.
"You've finished school plenty of times." He piped up teasingly.
"Yes, well, I'm almost done here in Beacon Hills. And Stiles wants us all to go to the same college." She explained thinking of her spastic best friend. Not to mention she had promised her other best friend Malia that she'd travel with her, seeing as how the coyote wanted to go to France for college. Where they'd meet a familiar Issac Lahey who also missed the Original deeply.
"Ah, the crazy human." Klaus teased. He had met the strange boy numerous times, receiving many dog puns, until Klaus had threatened to rip his head off his body. Stiles immediately quieted down, saying that Elijah was now his new fond favourite Mikaelson brother.
Ophelia giggled at his comment shaking her head. "He's just, overly excited." She said defending her hyperactive friend.
"And what about the wolf boys? I recall there being two who were clinging to you like you put the stars in the sky." Klaus teased his twin. Caroline sat beside her fiancé with wide eyes wanting to hear more about the blue eyed betas. Klaus had told her about Liam and Brett, to which Caroline called the red head receiving an earful as to why she hadn't told her about the boys sooner.
Ophelia furrowed her brows. "Liam? Brett? Theo?" She questioned in confusion.
"Ah, there's three now?" He asked in amusement. Caroline widened her eyes in excitement. "A love square? Scandalous! Even better!" Her silky voice exclaimed in the background.
"Seriously? Care-" Ophelia widened her eyes at the sound of her friend's voice, knowing she wasn't going to leave her alone for this one. Knowing she'd receive numerous texts from not only Caroline, but Davina, Hayley, Elena and Bonnie.
"I'm joking. But I stand by what I said before you left, if-" Klaus began.
"If any harm comes to me, you'll rip their heads off and feed them to the other wolves. Yes, yes, I know Nik." She quoted him, with a smile. Hearing an 'awe' from Caroline. Ophelia looked down to her phone seeing an 's.o.s' from Scott. "Nik, I have to go. I'll speak to you soon. I promise, I love you both."
"Is everything okay?" He asked, concern evident in his voice.
"No-I mean yes, everything is okay. I think, I must go. Speak to you soon brother. Bye Care." Ophelia hung up and hurriedly called the alpha. He had explained to her that Tracy had multiple supernatural elements in her DNA, and that tomorrow they'd go over the bestiary.
Ophelia made her way over to her on suite, to get ready for bed. She walked towards her window across from her bed. She tilted her head with squinted eyes at what seemed to be a black shadow hidden behind the trees, that lead to the Beacon Hills preserve.
"The hell?" She mumbled. The hybrid looked closely seeing their golden eyes. Wolf. She furrowed her brows, knowing it wasn't Brett, or Liam. Not even Derek Hale. She blinked only to see the wolf now was gone. "This town is weirder, than Mystic Falls." She mumbled getting into her bed, falling into a dreamless slumber.
▂▂▂▂
"IF 99.9% of our DNA sequence is the same as other humans, what could account for the missing 0.1% difference? Theo." Mrs.Finch questioned the blue eyed boy. Who was busy gazing at the red head sitting across of him. Receiving no response, "Theo?" She asked. Ophelia turned and gave the boy a questioningly glance.
"Um, nucleotides." Theo blinked away from the hybrid then to their teacher.
Ophelia whispered to Lydia, "She isn't a hybrid or a tribrid, she's something else. I've never seen silver blood before." She explained to the banshee.
"Never?" She questioned the doe eyed girl, who shook her head, biting down on her plump lip.
"Yes, Kira?" Mrs.Finch asked the kitsune.
"Can there be more than one species in the same DNA?" She asked the older woman. Supernatural wise maybe, Ophelia thought to herself.
"No, but there can be multiple sets of DNA in the same individual. We call that a Chimera. Anyone know where that term comes from?" She asked the class. Ophelia raised her hand excited to talk about the mythology behind it. "Ophelia."
"It's greek mythology. It's a lion with a goat coming out of its back and a tail that ends in the head of a snake." She finished with a proud smile.
"That's correct. And that brings us to the next topic in mutation. As you know from the reading, DNA is a fragile molecule. Isn't it Scott?" She raised a brow to the alpha who was scribbling down notes. Scott looked up, confusion evident on his features. "Or did you miss last night's assigned reading?"
"Kind of." Scott shyly admitted.
"Kind of, or yes?" Mrs.Finch further question the alpha.
"Mostly yes." He answered.
"Well, then thank you for another helpful transition in topic. Drop forms. All those now acutely aware that they do not belong in this class, you should fill one out. The rest will be on my desk." She spoke handing out sheets to multiple students. The bell rang signalling the students class was over.
Ophelia stood up, and watched as Scott hovered over the forms. "Scott?" She softly spoke, shaking her head. Scott smiled sadly and picked up a form, Mrs.Finch watched with a frown.
▂▂▂▂
OPHELIA, Stiles, and Malia rushed into the library towards Scott and Kira. The trio had the bestiary, they rushed up the staircase to the couple who sat around a table waiting for the trio. "We got something." Malia piped up pointing to the book in Ophelia's hands.
"Anything in here about half-werewolves, half-kanimas?" Kira asked the other's.
"Well, I'm half vampire half werewolf; a hybrid. But for me it's different, being a born wolf and all, I had to trigger my curse. And when I made my first kill as a vampire it triggered it. Same thing with Nik. It's different from a bitten wolf we know that. But humans being made without any magical help? I've never heard of that in my 1000 years." Ophelia explained to the group, placing the book down on the table.
"It's a Chimera." Scott spoke to the group.
"What?" Stiles asked in confusion.
"Chimera, it's a creature made of incongruous parts. And if Liam said he found two burial sites, that means Tracy's not the only one." Scott further explained to the human.
"Who the hell is the second one?" Ophelia asked.
"Yeah, and why would they bury them?" Kira asked.
"Sign of re-birth?" Ophelia guessed.
"Uh, I don't know. Deaton thinks it's part of their process." Scott answered.
"The people in masks." Malia concurred with a nod. Ophelia nodded to her best friend, the three looked to one another with questionable glances at the two girls.
▂▂▂▂
OPHELIA, Liam and Mason made their way towards Sinema. Mason had pleaded for Liam to come with him to the club, who then pleaded the Original to come with him. Ophelia walked along side Liam. She hoped they'd at least have alcohol, to distract her and at least calm her cravings. Liam pulled out his phone scrolling through his texts waiting for his alpha to contact him, or Stiles. Or anyone in general, he wanted to be anywhere else but at some club.
"Can you put your phone away for five minutes? Scott will howl if he needs you both." Mason asked Liam.
"I just feel like I should be doing something." Liam mumbled, shoving his phone into his pocket with a sigh.
"You are, you're my wingman tonight, and Lia is here to help." Mason smiled to the two. The Original rolled her eyes at the comment, not wanting to be there either. "And considering the state of my dating life, I need a wingman, co-pilots in this case, not being sexist. And I need a really hot flight attendant."
"Well, I'm definitely not your hot flight attendant." Liam cringed at the thought.
"Obviously. Ophelia is." Mason rolled his eyes at his best friend. Liam nodded his head in agreement smiling sheepishly at the girl.
The hybrid grabbed both of their hands in her small ones and dragged them to the entrance of the club. Revealing Hayden Romero. Ophelia smiled happily to the young teen, who returned the gesture; until she spotted Liam.
"I said I'd let you in. Even Ophelia, but not him." Hayden hissed, glaring at Liam.
"I'm his flight attendant. Wait no Lia is, I'm his wingman. You know what never mind." Liam rambled.
Ophelia pulled out of her jacket a $100, holding it up to the girl who widened her eyes, as well as the boys. "How about now, love?"
She smirked stepping aside, letting the trio in. "Welcome to Sinema."
The trio walked in as loud music vibrated the walls around the trio. Liam grasped the red head's hand leading her through the club, keeping her close. They walked through heaps of people, coming to a stop glancing around the club members. "We don't look old enough to be here."
Ophelia looked down at her leather jacket, black crop top, high-waisted leather pants and ankle boots. "Speak for yourself." She smirked to Liam, as she unzipped her jacket, making both boys widen their eyes.
"Neither does he." Mason spoke up looking in the distance. Both Liam and Ophelia looked in the same direction seeing Brett dancing with a girl.
Ophelia looked over feeling a twinge of jealousy, "You okay Lia?" Liam asked the red head beside him, seeing a look of distraught on her angelic face. Ophelia looked away from the duo rolling her eyes, ignoring the feeling she felt in her chest.
"I need a drink." She muttered, walking away from the teenage boys through the crowd of sweaty bodies. Liam rushed after the red head, grasping her forearm, she whipped around ready to strangle whoever it was. She sighed seeing it was only Liam, she nodded her head to the bar. "Bourbon, please." She compelled the bartender. She sipped on her drink glancing around the club every so often. The bar stool beside her was pulled back, a body planted itself down by her.
She looked over seeing Brett look at her with his infamous smile, to which she rolled her eyes at him. "What?" He asked confusion in his eyes.
"Nothing. Nothing at all." She muttered. He reached for her hand, only for her to pull back. "Don't." She spat out, she threw her head back drinking the remainder of her bourbon. She slammed her glass down, and stood up annoyed with the entire night.
Brett held her back by her waist gently, looking into her doe eyes. "I'm sorry, I don't understand what I did wrong, princess." She narrowed her eyes at the nickname.
"Seriously? It's nothing. We're not dating. We kissed once, that was all, just a kiss right?" She chuckled bitterly, shaking her head.
He looked to her with hurt eyes, and bit his lip. "It wasn't just a kiss."
She chuckled no humour evident in her voice. "That's why you haven't spoken to me since then? I only saw you was when Liam needed you for Tracy, I thought you'd at least have a reason then or call me back. I don't need to be played with, I'm not a toy, Brett. I told you what happened to the last one I had feelings for. She died." She deadpanned. "The last person I was in a relationship with, he loved someone else and left me for her, he used me. And I refuse to go through that again and you out of all people should know that already."
"I do. I like you a lot. But-" Brett began.
"You can't be with a vampire right? Especially an Original. We're monsters, killers, abominations. No I get it, it's not like I haven't been called that before. Just hoped you were different, but you follow Satomi's rules right?" She accused with tears breaming her eyes and walked away, leaving the boy standing dumbfounded.
Brett clenched his jaw, and followed after her. Only to see Liam holding her by her hands. Brett narrowed his eyes at the beta and walked over to two. "Hey, do you feel anything? I think there's someone else like us here." Liam asked Brett.
Brett looked around and shook his head. "I don't know, maybe. It's Beacon Hills. What's the difference?"
"It felt different." Liam sighed out. Nervously looking around.
"What do you mean?" Brett asked the other beta.
"It felt off. It felt wrong." Liam explained. Ophelia grabbed Liam's hand walking away only to come to a stop looking to where Lucas stood. Liam and Ophelia glowed their eyes, growling lowly.
The duo walked through the crowd dodging dancers. Looking for Mason, Ophelia walked away focusing on Mason's heart beat. Following the rhythmic sound, she walked towards beaded curtains. She furrowed her brows hearing two. She opened the beaded curtain, seeing Lucas raising his arm to slash Mason.
Ophelia growled, and sped over knocking the boy across the room. Mason fell back into the wall, with wide eyes looking between Ophelia and the boy. She released her claws, letting her fangs pierce the air, her eyes glowed, her veins running beneath her ambient eyes. With a growl she shoved Lucas into the wall. Lucas sat up, standing up on his feet and held the hybrid by her throat; choking her.
Brett ran into the room seeing Mason on the floor pointing to the two. With a roar he sped over and gripped Lucas' wrist cracking it, he then threw the boy across the room away from the Original.
Ophelia stood up ignoring Brett's hand, and concern eyes. She looked up seeing Liam head butt Lucas. Ophelia hissed speeding over and jumping on Lucas' back, bitting into his neck. She jumped off throwing him towards Scott, she spat out his blood choking in the process. Liam ran to the girl, "Vervain." She coughed up, clutching her burning throat.
The other's continued fighting. Kira ran up to Lucas in attempt to kill him, she swivelled her sword threw the air, thrusting it towards Lucas. Scott pulled the kitsune away before she could slice the boy in half; snapping her out of her trance.
Ophelia stood up slowly, rubbing her neck form the burning sensation that has now passed. The pack looked down to the unconscious boy. "Is everyone okay?" Scott asked. Everyone nodded. "Get him out of here, Liam give me a hand." He nodded towards Lucas. Both boys walked over to grab the boy.
An arrow soared through the air, puncturing his heart. The teenagers looked up in shock to see the men in masks as Malia called them. The dread doctors. "Why did you do that?" Scott shouted to them.
"His condition was terminal." His robotic voice echoed through the room.
Ophelia walked up only to have Scott grab her forearm. "What the bloody hell does that mean?" She questioned the doctors.
"Failure." He monotonously said.
AN 🦋✨🧚🏼♀️
Ophelia got emotional as y'all can see, the guy who left her etc was Lucien Castle. She loved him but y'all know his obsession with Aurora so yeah and the girl was Erica obviously. So I want Ophelia and Brett to be close even though they aren't end game, I want them to be close.
