AMARA QUICKLY SHOVES her phone into her pocket when she notices kai turning the corner into the kitchen. he looks up from his phone and notices amara already sitting at the kitchen island, spinning around excitedly in one of the stools on wheels.

kai quirks a brow, noticing the grin on her face that she's trying so hard to hide. "why are you so happy?" he asks, walking over to the fridge and grabbing milk. he grabs lucky charms from on top of the fridge and puts it on the counter.

she's assuming that her dad hasn't told kai yet, so she willingly does it herself. "dad said i could go to the party with you tomorrow." she beams, slowing her spins on the chair down so she could observe his facial expression.

he sighs, pouring milk into a bowl. "amara—"

with clear judgement on her face, she interrupts him, "wait, did you just pour the milk before the cereal?" she thought everyone poured the cereal in before the milk. it's an unspoken rule!

kai rolls his eyes, shoving up his middle finger. "don't interrupt me to say bullshit that no one gives a fuck about." he says with tense lips, clearly aggravated.

amara blinks. "okay geez, i was just kidding." hurt is present in her tone as she taps her fingers on the kitchen island. she thought he would just joke back. "what were you saying?"

"every time you come to a party with me, my friends start hitting on you and you start blushing like a weirdo." he tells her, beginning to pour the cereal into the bowl.

"that's not true!" she argues. she doesn't blush when everyone flirts with her—she knows they're all manwhores who flirt with every girl they see.

"just," kai starts, taking a seat on a still beside her and bringing his bowl of cereal with him. "stay with tatum, don't hang around me and my friends." he orders.

"that's what i do every time, but okay." she sasses, getting up before he could correct her on her tone and goes into her room.

at parties, amara takes the chance she could to just simply hang out with tatum. she could tell that it embarrasses kai the way she and tatum don't even party, they just eat and gossip.

but whatever! kai should be glad amara isn't some slut who dances with boys and drinks her heart away. she'd never be like that.

in fact, she judges girls like that.
