โ€” CHATTER FILLED THE AIRPORT as Jasper made his way through, his suitcase rolling behind him. He pulled out his phone as he got out of baggage claim, the duo had gotten an earlier flight to set things up and check stuff out and were supposed to be here to pick him up now, he just had to find them.

He sighed when he realized he'd get to receive any message from either of them. He went to message them when he heard a shout down the way, he looked up to find Sam and Colby holding a sign with his name painted in red glitter.

"What the" he didn't finish his sentence though the last unsaid word echoed loudly in his mind as he approached them.

The boys were laughing before he even reached them. He couldn't help but laugh as well when he found their sweatshirts covered in red glitter.

"Whose idea was it?" He asked between his laughter. Sam pointed to Colby with a grin and he patted Colby's back with a matching grin, "I have a feeling we're gonna be real good friends."

Colby laughed his agreement before the duo led him out to the rental car. "So we've got a hotel set up not far from the location if you want to head there first." Sam said as he helped lift the suitcase into the back.

"Sounds good. Maybe I can hear some of your guys' research on the place?" He suggested, sliding into the back seat while Sam got in the drivers, Colby was already in the passenger seat as he loaded up directions.

"Of course, we're gonna leave some things as a surprise, see if we can discover them on our own." Jasper nodded in understanding and looked out the window.

Sam cursed under his breath at the confusing Texas roads. "We should've had Beau pick us up." He grumbled.

"Beau?" He asked curiously.

"We did a video with him before and became friends, he's from Texas but I think he's planning on moving to the UK with his boyfriend, Noah." Sam explained conversationally, "They're Twitch streamers." He added.

"Oh, I think I've heard of them before." Jasper hummed curiously.

"We were thinking of inviting them to join us for part of the investigation," Colby said, looking back at him for input.

Jasper only shrugged, "I'm down, it's your guy's video."

"So where you from?" Sam asked conversationally, glancing back through the rearview mirror.

"Kansas." Jasper grinned, thinking of his small town. He hadn't been back in years, not since his family had moved away during his senior year.

In the front seats, the duo's eyes widened, "We are too!" Sam exclaimed, "That's insane."

Colby looked back at Jasper in a new light, studying the man's familiar face. He had seemed familiar even on the phone, however now in person the feeling of familiarity was even stronger, the fact they're from the same place only spurring it on.

He looked away as the man spoke, "Imagine if we're from the same town." Jasper joked, his eyes staying on Colby for a moment too long as Sam laughed.

Colby wondered if he knew him from Kansas, but then thought that was stupid, he obviously did, it was right on the tip of his tongue, just out of reach from his memories.

Jasper tore his eyes away at the same time Colby looked back at him again. In the driver seat, Sam eyed the pair curiously but continued the casual conversation until they reached the hotel.

"Zach, our producer, is waiting in the hotel room already, doing some research on the place." Sam told him as they got out of the car.

Colby went to the trunk of the car to help Jasper with his suitcase, their hands landing on the lip of the trunk at the same time. "Sorry." He mumbled awkwardly, both shuffling back. Colby fumbled for words in response, reassurance falling short as Sam stepped forward, giving the pair odd looks while he opened the trunk and grabbed Jasper's suitcase for them.

"SO, basic history out of the way." Zach stated as they all sat in the hotel room that Sam and Colby would be sharing, Zach and Jasper both having their own rooms, "Yorktown Memorial Hospital opened in 1951 and was operated by an order of Roman-Catholic nuns called the Felician Sisters. It closed in 1986 before reopening as a rehab center which closed in the 1990s. After that, the owner purchased it and started doing tours."

"Nearly 2,000 people died there and it's said a lot of them still linger to this day." Sam continued on, "People have seen everything from wheelchairs moving without anyone pushing them and apparitions."

"There have been sightings of shadow figures, and people have heard whispers while alone." Zach added further, "I still have to dig further but that's the basic information we've gotten from a quick Google search."

Sam and Colby both studied Jasper for his reaction, he seemed ultimately un-fearful of the history but cautious, which was a good sign. They didn't want any of their guests to be scared however being cautious is always best with paranormal locations.

"Today we'll just be settling in here at the hotel since it's already getting late." Sam told them all, his eyes narrowing in seriousness, "Tomorrow the real investigation starts."

Jasper nodded in understanding, "I'm actually excited, is that weird?" He laughed his gaze flickering around the room before getting stuck on Colby who laughed a little too loudly at his words before rubbing the back of his neck sheepishly.

"I'm excited too." Colby responded with a smile, "I think it'll be fun." With you, he didn't add. Jasper blushed anyway as he nodded in agreement and looked away.

Zach looked between Colby and Jasper and then at Sam, questioningly. He flicked his finger between Colby and Jasper with an arched brow to which Sam shrugged.

They both could see how strange Colby was acting, and even Jasper who they didn't know wasn't acting like had on that phone call, or in the messages they'd shared since. Sam could chalk it up to awkwardness, but the fact of the matter is Jasper's only been like this with Colby, not him or even Zach. So what was going on between the two?

"I should probably go call my manager slash best friend before she goes insane." Jasper told them, standing to leave.

"I need to get going on research too." Zach said, taking that as his cue he got up to leave as well.

Together the odd pair walked out of the duo's hotel room and down the halls, "See you tomorrow." Jasper called as he unlocked his hotel door, Zach nodded with a kind smile as he entered his own room.

Inside his hotel room, Jasper slumped into his bed and sighed, closing his eyes he saw Colby again causing him to groan. Why can't he stop thinking about him? And the real question haunting him...

Why does Colby seem so familiar?

For those curious, Beau is an OC from my old fanfiction, Chemistry while Noah is another OC from there (who used to be Wilbur Soot, fuck Wilbur Soot!) <3

How we feeling about the Sam and Colby Conjuring episode 1?

Also to be clear, this book will not include or focus around their actual videos and will be based either on fiction or on real places not from their videos in the case of Yorktown Memorial Hospital.

This was a bit of a filler chapter but does further the plot as they'll be going to the first haunted location soon. Let me know what you're thinking of the story so far in the comments! There's so much more to come <33
