matt helped me up as i limped to the dugout.

"you don't have to stay here, you know? i mean, you can at least go sit in your car." i shrugged at him from the bench, watching him stand and gaze onto the field.

he looked back at me and shook his head.

"i know, but i want to help you. make sure you're ok. walk you back to your car."

i sighed, uniting my laces and slipping my cleats of my feet.

kendra walked in, her cleats crunching on the dirt and concrete.

"you ok? how bad you hurting?" she asked, standing in front of me.

"not too bad but i should stay off of it. well, at least not run the bases and try to slide or anything."

"yeah, go home, rest up. ice it and take some painkillers."

"are you sure you don't want me to stay and watch?"

"no, don't worry. i'm gonna wrap up early. with zoey's leg and your ankle, we are running low."

"we really need to get more girls." i huffed.

"yeah, erin said she might have found us some. so, hopefully next practice we will have a couple more."

"that's good."

"yeah, anyways, go home and spend some time with..." she jerked her head to matt who was busy watching the girls on the bases throw the ball back and forth.

i laughed. "i will. thank you."

he's cute she mouthed.

i know i winked.

"you didn't tell me you had a date with matt rife!" she whispered.

"never came up." i smiled.

"alright, i'll see you next week. i'll text out the practice schedule when i'm back in town."

"ok, sounds good. i'll see you." i smiled.

we patted each others shoulders as i walked past her.

my ankle was sore as i tried my best to shake it off.

i stuffed my cleats into my bag and dropped my slides onto the floor.

"we leaving?" matt asked.

"i am. you are more than welcome to stay and watch." i laughed.

"let me take you home." he offered.

i sighed.

"you gonna take me back to get my car?" i asked.

"of course."

"this is dรฉjร  vu. is this your excuse to spend more time with me?" i teased.

"maybe." he shrugged, a smile tugging on his lips.

"alright. let's go." i walked out of the dugout.

i waved and yelled a goodbye to the girls.

"have fun with your man!" brady yelled.

"be good, kids!" emmy yelled as matt and i laughed.

i placed my bag into his back seat and sat in the front.

when we got to my apartment, he grabbed the bag for me.

"please, be careful with the bats. i can't tell you how many times i almost broke a window with them." i laughed.

"yeah, they aren't exactly ideal. do you want me to carry you up the stairs?" he had a teasing smirk on his face.

"my ankle is a little sore. not broken." i snickered, walking up the stairs.

i opened the door as we walked inside.

"you can hang out for bit, if you'd like. if not, make sure you call me in the morning when you are headed over." i took my bag from him and placed it in my room.

"what if i spent the night?" he stuck his hands in his pockets.

"you wanna have a sleepover?" i questioned, laughing.

"sure. if you don't want me to, that's totally fine. just tell me to leave and i will."

i walked over to the couch as he sat down.

"i mean, sure, but..." i trailed off as he raised an eyebrow.

"i'm not gonna sleep with you. if that's what you're looking for." i said, flatly.

his eyes widened as he shook his head.

"no, no. i'm sorry, that's not what i meant at all. i'm sorry. i didn't mean for it to sound like that." he told me, seriously.

"i mean, it's not that i don't want to sleep with you at all. but like, it's a little to early for that and i don't wanna send any false signals." i rambled.

"jenna..." he said my name so softly i forgot how to breathe for a second.

"i'm not just trying to sleep with you. i'm trying to spend more time with you." he grabbed my hand and smiled at me.

my breath caught but i quickly breathed a sigh of relief.

"you wanna watch a movie?" i offered with a small smile.

"i'd love to."
