"so, have you always lived in la?" matt asked taking a sip of his coffee.

we were sitting at a table on the outside patio. i tried not feel stupid in my flannel pajamas pants as i looked around at the people who didn't dress like they just rolled out of bed.

i tried not focusing on it and instead on the fact that matt had taken out to breakfast.

and the question he had just asked me.

"no, i grew up more north. my brother moved down here for his career and i moved with him."

"what does your brother do?"

"um... he's an influencer."

"who is he?"

"jacob day." i answered, taking a sip of tea.

i watched matt face as he tried to recognize the name.

"you know him?" i asked.

"i think i've heard of him." he nodded.

"have you heard of vinnie hacker?"

"that one is more familiar."

"ok, yeah. their friends. vinnie is like my second older brother."

"so, you have two older brothers who make thirst traps on tiktok." his lips started to curve into a smile.

i only nodded.

"yeah, maybe i should leave." he joked, making it look like he was getting up from the table.

"what? why?" i laughed.

"there are two of them. two guys who can beat my ass for only knowing you." he smiled and i tipped my head back and laughed.

"how old are they?" he asked.

"they are both 26. i'm 23."

matt sucked his teeth.

"oh yeah. they could beat me up for sure." i laughed at his comment.

"just don't give them a reason to." i smiled.

"don't worry, i'm not planning on it." he winked.

just then the waiter came around and sat the food on our table.

"i can't believe you order a waffle." matt teased.

i gaped at him, looking between him and the waffle sitting on the plate in front of me.

"fuck off. waffles are the shit." i snapped.

"what did you even get anyways?" i asked, spreading out my butter.

"something simple. eggs, bacon, and two slices of toast." he picked up a piece of toast, pointed it at me before tearing into it with his teeth.

i made a face.

"boring." i rolled my eyes, stabbing a piece of fruit with my fork.

"it's not boring. you got waffles and a bowl of fruit."

"yup. tasteful." i smiled, biting the cantaloupe off my fork.

he laughed and went back to eating.

"so, tell me about your softball."

my eyes lit up as i picked up my cup of syrup and began dumping in my waffle.

"how much do you wanna hear?" i smiled, meeting his eyes.

"everything you wanna tell me." he smiled without showing his teeth and i almost banged my head on the table.

i began to cut up my food. his eyes sparkled with interest and my entire face was lit up from excitement.

i could have talked about softball for hours. i was grinning like a fool the whole time i told him.

by the time our plates were empty, we knew a lot about each other.

matt knew about my softball and the games and practices and how i felt about all of it.

i knew about his comedy and the shows and the tours and how he felt about it all.

i tried to pay for breakfast but matt refused.

"nope. put your wallet away."

"no! you paid for my shit last night. please, let me get this."

he only shook his head and put his card in the check folder and closed it, keeping his hand on top.

i folded my arms over my chest.

"you are so stubborn." i rolled my eyes.

"me?" he asked, putting his free hand on his chest.

"yes, you! you won't let me pay for anything!" i shouted, an open mouth smile on my lips.

"why do you want to pay for anything? most girls expect the guy to pay."

"well, not me. at least let me pay half." i begged.

he shook his head and smiled.

the waiter came around and matt handed him the receipt with his card.

"besides, it's my treat." he tried convincing me.

i rolled my eyes. he had done so much in the last 12 hours for me and i hadn't even done anything for him.

"if a woman doesn't let me pay the bills, she ain't worth shit." he joked.

i laughed at that until the waiter came back.

"alright, bitch, let's get your car." he said, sarcastically, getting up.

i let out a small yelp and laughed harder.

"stop it! people are going to think you're a dick." i wiped the tears in my eyes from laughing.

"people on the internet think i hate women already, which i don't! i fucking love them." he winked.

i laughed more as we walked to his car.

we both got in and he started to drive the the bar from last night.

we got there faster than i expected.

"ok, here we are and there," he pointed to the black car across the street. "is your car." he looked back at me a smiled.

i thanked him again for last night and then for this morning.

"it was no problem at all." i thought i was gonna fucking die from his smile.

i said bye and got out of his car. i started crossing the street. i looked behind me, matt had rolled his window down and was watching me.

i tried to hide the blush on my cheeks as i stepped in front of my car. i looked back at him and he was smiling.

i opened my car door and went to get in but stopped.

this can't be it right? i mean, me took me home last night and picked me up this morning.

i looked back with a frown on my face. he tipped his head back and laughed before looking back at me.

"come here." he said, loud enough for me to hear.

it took everything in my not to run to his car.

i walked up to his window and sat my hands on the ledge.

he grabbed one of them and rubbed his thumb on top.

"you have my number. you can call me if you wanted to see me again." he teased, a slow smirk on his face.

"yeah, but like, i feel like you're so fucking busy you wouldn't have time."

"i had time to take you home and pick you up, didn't i?"

"yeah, i guess." i smiled.

"i'll call you tonight. ok?"

a shit-eating grin took over my face.

"ok."
