The Christmas Tree - Part 2

* Elizabeth's POV *

I couldn't help to keep cursing in my mind as I walk to the lift. I press the button of the main floor and just when the doors are about to close, a hand appears between it forcing it to open again.

"Not so fast, hothead," Steve says jokingly but I can't laugh about it, not this time.

"I can handle this," I say. "Just go, I don't need a babysitter."

"Hm, and what are you going to do then? Forcing him to give the tree to you?"

"If I have to," I shrug and press the button again. The elevator starts to drop and Steve quirks an eyebrow. "You know, he did bought it. It's not exactly stealing then, is it?"

"He knew I wanted that tree! He saw me staring at it and making an arrangement with the salesman. If only that man had agreed immediately in stead of..."

"Of what?"

"Waiting for a higher bid," I mutter. "But," I continue before Steve could say anything, "Johnny only bought it to bother me."

"Perhaps he just really liked that tree," Steve suggests and I utter an annoyed sigh. I'm one hundred percent sure that that was not the matter. With a little jingle the lift opens again and I quickly walk through the hallway, outside. I grab the steering wheel of my motorcycle and push it to the street. With a thud I land on the black leather saddle and I with my right hand I squeeze the coupling. I start the motorcycle and with a loud roar the motor comes to life beneath me. In the mirror I see Steve stepping on his motorcycle too and I know I can't convince him to not come with me. I open the throttle and make my way through Manhattan, with Steve right behind me.

After a while we have reached the corner of 42nd Street and Madison Avenue, and the building on that corner is also known as the Baxter Building. The residence of the Fantastic Four and they own the upper five floors of the 35-story high building. Not as impressive as the Avengers Tower but well, we aren't all Tony Stark right? We park our motorcycles at the nearby parking lot and enter the building. We're greeted by the man behind the desk in the hallway, and I friendly ask him to call the Fantastic Four to tell them Agent Hart and Captain Rogers are coming upstairs. The man's eyes grow big when he hears the name of Captain America, he stutters something and quickly makes the call. He gestures we may step inside the lift and while I try to keep my temper, the doors are closing and up we go. I have to keep in my mind I'm only angry with Johnny, not with the rest of them.

"Captain America and the Lioness," Susan Storm greets us when we've reached the 30th floor. "To what do we owe this pleasure?"

"Sue," I greet her with a nod and a smile. "Well, what do you think?"

"Johnny?" she guesses and she sighs when I nod again. "What did he do now?"

"You mean you don't know?"

She shrugs. "If I have to keep an eye on him all the time, I'll go nuts."

I chuckle, that's probably true.

"Follow me, we were all in the lab," and with that she turns around and presses a button whereby the airlocked door a few meters ahead opens. Behind it is another lift and we go to the last floor. The floor we were at is the buffer zone, which provides heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and elevator support equipment for the lower 30 stories. The other three floors are the quarters of the Fantastic Four. Then we reach the upper floor and the door to the lab opens. In awe I stare at the rare huge and massive machine in the middle of the floor. I wonder what Reed is building but I guess that has to wait when I spot Johnny. Circling around in a office chair.

"You," I say between gritted teeth, walking with large passes to him. He stops spinning and a smirk appears on his face.

"Hi Liz," he greets me and I feel my teeth transforming in fangs. "Don't call me that," I growl. I hate shortcuts, Elizabeth is the name given to me so Elizabeth they shall call me.

"And my long lost brother!" he says jocular, completely ignoring me, when he sees Steve standing a bit further with crossed arms. He jumps of the chair and with spread arms he walks to Steve.

"Don't," Steve says holding him on a arm's length-distance with just one arm, the other still crossed on his chest.

Reed sticks his head around a corner from another lab to see what's all the fuss about. "Ah yes, Stan said you two were coming upstairs. What did he do now?" he asks, he knew damn well this was about Johnny.

"I didn't do anything!" Johnny rejects turning away from Steve and I snort. "Right, and where were you even planning on putting the tree? Only the lab is high enough but I'm quite sure Reed doesn't want a Christmas tree in his lab."

"That's true. But what tree?" Reed asks confused.

"Liz," Johnny starts and I glare at him. "Fine, Elizabeth... I did you a favor."

"With what? Being a pain in the ass?"

He chuckles. "Man, what a Christmas spirit you have. No, I bought it so that it wouldn't go to someone else."

I frown. "I don't get it. It did go to someone else, to you."

"Yes, but otherwise it would have go to someone you didn't know. So, then you wouldn't have the opportunity to ask it back."

"Wait, what?" I say confused. "How do you mean?" But just before Johnny could answer, Ben came in too, loud stamping and making a lot of noise because he's made of rocks.

"Stan called, he said there more coming up or something." And then he sees us and he utters a sound of understanding. Now he gets it.

"Who are coming?" Reed asks.

"Some Bucky and Katherine?" Ben answers with a slight frown. I exchange a look with Steve, who just shrugs. In the corner of my eye I see Johnny walking away and quickly I turn back.

"Where do you think you're going?" I ask, I still want to know what he meant.

"Getting the new guests, of course," he answers like it is obvious and then he leaves the lab. I sigh. It looks like I've got to wait a little bit longer for answers.

* Katherine's POV *

'Ey! Wait for me!' I type in as fast as I can but I see Bucky already went offline. Great, he didn't read it. I log off and leave my apartment, determined to go with him. I want to meet this look-alike too. But then I realize I don't know where the Fantastic Four lives so I have no idea how to wait for him nearby. I take out my phone once again and search for the Fantastic Four. Bless the internet, I say to myself when within seconds I have found the adress of the Baxter Building. On the corner 42nd Street and Madison Avenue. I'm lucky, that's quite nearby my apartment. I hop on my black motorcycle - a Harley Davidson Q3 - and ride towards the building.

It looks like Steve and Elizabeth are already inside, because one parking spot is occupied by two motorcycles and I recognize Steve's. His is a black Harley Davidson Street 750 and I guess the dark blue Honda is Elizabeth's. I inspect it more upclose and see it is the DN-01 model, it's a nice motorcycle but still I prefer Harley Davidson motorcycles. I park mine in the spot next to theirs and wait for Bucky to show up, still sitting in the saddle and with crossed arms.

Minutes pass by but then I hear the iconic sound of Bucky's motorcycle roaring through the air, outvoting all other sounds from vehicles. I step of the motorcycle so that Buck can place his next to mine. They're only positive sides of owning one; you can move faster between the traffic, you can place them everywhere you want - well, not exactly everywhere, but you know what I mean - and you can place two in one spot! Now, isn't that great? More spots for the big fat cars.

"Hi there," I greet my boyfriend when he has finally arrived. He strikes his dark brown hair out of his eyes and smirks. I put my arms around his neck and give him a kiss.

"Now, let's go meet that Johnny," I say, ending our kiss and with a smile he nods. He takes my hand and side by side we walk inside. We are greeted by a man behind the desk in the hallway.

"Hello," Bucky greets him back. "We're here for the Fantastic Four."

The man is a bit suprised but then nods and grabs the horn of the phone in front of him to phone upstairs. "Who can I say is coming?" he asks while holding the horn to his ear.

"Bucky and Katherine," Buck answers for both of us and after a few moments the man nods we can step inside the elevator. We walk inside and then I realize I don't know which floor. I want to shout my question to the man behind the desk, but the doors are already closing and the lift starts to move. Apparently we don't need to press a button for which floor. The teller hits 30 and the doors open, and my jaw drops from suprise. Well, Iris was certainly not lying.

"Holy crap! You really do look like Steve!" Bucky expresses mine thoughts exactly. In front of us stands Johnny, with a little half-smile on his face.

"You must be Bucky and Katherine," he says and he winks at me. Before I could react on his statement, he grabs my hand and places a kiss on it. I blush a bit, that was unexpected.

"Nah-ah," Bucky says, slamming his hand away. "She's taken."

"Urgh, why are all the beautiful ones taken?" he says frustrated and I can't help to think about that as a compliment.

"You really do look like Steve," I repeat Bucky, trying to change - or more like, getting back to the subject. "But, less... muscular." I add and Johnny snorts. "At least I don't use steroids," he reacts.

"Steve doesn't either," Bucky answers with a frown.

"Well, he cheated. He has Super Soldier Serum in his blood."

"So, where are the rest of you? I thought there were four of you?" I change the subject before Johnny and Bucky could start a fight. I look around but this floor doesn't really look like someone could actually live here. It is all industrial, full with pipes and steams. I don't know what this floor is but it is definitely not the living room.

"Follow me," Johnny says and he presses a button on the wall. The airlocked door a few meters ahead opens with a thud and behind it is another lift. We step inside and move another five floors up.

"Welcome to the lab," Johnny says dramatic, spreading his arms as we step outside the elevator. A huge machine catches my eye immediately and I wonder what it is and where it is for. Then I spot Steve and I guess the woman next to him is Elizabeth. I walk to them and hold out my hand for her to shake it,Β  and while I walk I observe the others. Two men, one black-haired and the other made of stones, and one woman with light blonde hair.

"Elizabeth. An early meeting," I greet her and with an absent smile she shakes my hand. "Indeed, but I'm sorry. Chitchat has to wait because now that Johnny is back, I want to know what he meant." I nod understandingly, she's here for the Christmas tree after all.

"So, Johnny. What did you mean by 'now you have the opportunity to ask it back'?" Elizabeth continues, facing Johnny.

"Exactly as how I said it. I'm not all the time a pain in the ass, as you called it. I did you a favor. Now, if you aks very nicely, I may consider giving it back."

"Really?" she asks eagerly and slowly he nods. "Well, I'm sorry then. Thank you for buying the tree before someone else could. Can we have it please back? I'll pay you back, of course."

I try to hold in my chuckle, she sure did ask it politely. A smile appears on Johnny's face and he claps his hand together. "Already fixed. I gave up the adress of the Avengers Tower for the delivery." And now I do chuckle. Johnny planned all this, and to me it just looks like he's a little boy searching for attention.

"Uh, okay. Thanks?" Elizabeth says, obviously not quite sure how to react.

"It was great to see you all again." Johnny says and now I'm sure he just needs some attention. Positive or negative, he doesn't care. "Drive home safely," he continues and Elizabeth exchanges a look with Steve. Almost as if she can't believe it went that easily. She makes an half shrug and takes out her wallet. Paying Johnny back as promised.

"Alright... Reed, Sue, Ben; thanks for letting us in and we'll see you around," Elizabeth nods to the other three when she has handed Johnny the money over.

"Any time," Sue answers and the others utter some likewise goodbyes. And with that we walk out of the lab. I glance back over my shoulder, only to get another wink from Johnny and I roll with my eyes.

Once we're outside Bucky and I decide to go with them to the Avengers Tower in stead of going back home first. Elizabeth and Steve agree, saying it is no problem at all. They have enough resources in the Tower to survive an apocalypse, so two more mouths to feed during diner shouldn't really be a problem.

-

"So, how are we going to get the tree to the upper floor?" I ask curious when we're in the lift of the Avengers Tower. They said we were going to the living room and I could remember from the chat that that was were they were planning on setting up the big Christmas tree. But it is almost one hundred stories high, so I wonder how are they going to do that.

"O, we have asked Wanda to help us with her telekinetic powers," Elizabeth answers.

"Ah, okay," I say. It must be really handy when you have her powers. Moving things around with your mind, that's pretty cool.

~

A/N: Stan! I named the man behind the desk Stan! Ghehehe, I'm so original xD Ten points to the one who knows why - which shouldn't be too hard, right?

And yeah, the building. I decided to go with the Baxter Building, so it isn't destroyed yet. I'm also not really sure how the building is called in the movies? But I guess it's the Baxter Building too. And otherwise, just imagine it says Four Freedoms Plaze then, or whatever it is called ;)

And off we go, to part 3!
